CANADIAN TRUCKING 140,000 lbs UP MOUNTAIN HIGHWAYAdded:
Heat up here.
Heat.
Heat.
Good morning.
Check out them cheer cliff faces.
Yeah, the fence is knocked down over here, but just straight straight cliff straight up. We are in Hope the Esso truck stop over here. And uh looking at all the note posts over here that are all screwed sideways or knocked over and uh the fence, I take it that a lot of us suck at backing up and hit those.
I would have to admit I've hit one or two myself.
Oh, when when the back bumper is 80 ft away from where more like 70 ft away from where you're sitting, it's really hard.
Depth perception is really hard.
That's why if you're following a big rig, you think you're giving the big rig enough space.
You're not. It's 70 ft away from where they're sitting.
They can't tell the difference if you're leaving 2 ft space or 20 ft space. We can't see the difference.
Uh-oh. Insecure load, guys. Insecure load. I gathered as many of these up as I could. They were stuck in the pallet here and got these pins.
I keep collecting them. Hopefully, they're not. I think they're coming from up in here.
Yeah, I can't quite reach them. I got one, but up in there. I think these pins are slowly falling apart out. I grabbed as many as I could. Then every time I stop, I see if any more have fallen out.
I really really hope they're not ending up on the road, but I I don't think so.
I think they're just falling cuz the pallet has that edge. So, they're falling before that edge.
As you can see, there were a few of them sitting in there. One in a bag and then all these loose ones. So, I'm just collecting them. Most of 99% of those were collected while I was still parked being loaded.
But uh yeah, we got a load of uh concrete blocks and under the tarp is uh bagged concrete and mortar.
Got to tarp that.
I mean, it's a beautiful day, but we're driving up into that, so who knows? Who knows if it's going to be raining up there or not.
Got our camera on the back of the pup here again. All it is is a uh 4x4 with a piece of doweling stuck through it. The doweling is removable.
Homemade homemade camera mount that I can strap down.
And if I don't say so myself, it's one of my favorite angles to shoot.
It's definitely unique.
I like unique.
It gave me inspiration for a kayak mount, too.
So, working on that. Ordered some parts.
Definitely got some kayaking videos this week. Not this week, this year.
Picked up this load in Siri and it's headed to Grand Forks, British Columbia.
And we're about to do some hard hard climbing.
Overall, I'm not overweight, but if you measured each axle of the bridge is 100 kilogram overweight. So each axle is what? 33 give or take kilogram overweight.
So, I'm ever so slightly overweight on the on the axles of the front trailer. The axles in the center of the whole setup here.
Call it the bridge.
Turn left.
>> It's going to be some hard climbing, guys.
Hard hard climbing.
Taking the Hope Princeton.
Hope Princeton >> because it goes from the town of Hope to the town of Princeton.
>> The route of the original Dudney Trail, although Dudney took a shortcut up and over while we go around through Manning Park.
Yes, I'm very sniffly stuffed up. Got a bit of a cold.
So, in the last video we were What were we doing on the last video?
I can't remember what we were doing on the last video. I got to think think.
People asked me what happened a week ago, two weeks ago. I can't remember what happened yesterday.
All right, we loaded an Oyama, right?
And this backtracking.
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Colona up to Big White, right?
So, loaded an Oyama, delivered that to Grand Forks.
And then I picked up a load from Fruit Veil atco of uh cores, brought those to Langley to envy where they treat the treat the uh cores and then they come fence posts.
Well, that's it for TransCanada Highway 1.
Just by TransCanada Highway 1 here, it just shoots north through the canyon up towards Yale takes Yale Highway.
you.
The main route through the lower mainland was Yale Yale Highway before Transc Canada Highway One.
It goes, if you look at Yale Road, you'll see Yale Road show up through almost every town through the lower mainland.
I'd say it's like the Lower Mainlands version of Route 66.
But we are nowad Highway 3 which goes all the way from here to Medicine Hat.
and it is called the Crow's Nest Highway.
385 385.
Yes. Yeah, I have a feeling.
Yeah, it's a 22. We just got it.
Yeah, my boss got one there like that all up there. Pretty sharp looking truck.
>> Yeah. Well, it's going in for a polish here in the next within a month here, it'll all be shiny again. Uh fenders will be shined up and everything.
Since we're so heavy, we're going to be in the way today.
My job today is just to stay out of the way to the best of my ability.
Now, this order was actually for 30 pallets.
And once we got to 20 27 pallets, I told him stop.
I maxed out. Well, like I said, when I hit the scale, it's actually just slightly over.
My drives are almost maxed out. My bridge is a little over and my pop is a little under.
I think we could take one more pallet.
>> If we could balance the weight I wish we were taking Highway 3 all the way. End up in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
I think we might be okay. It's really windy out, but I don't think it's raining up there.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.
But enjoy the sun while we can.
Heat. Heat.
This is where the Cocaala Highway starts.
The left two lanes are the Cocaala Highway. The right lane is Highway 3.
Like I said, everybody is zoom zoom faster than us today.
I'm not going to be passing anyone today. Slowest truck on the mountain.
Garmin says the right two lanes. Uh, no.
Uh, right lane only.
Heat up here.
It wouldn't take much to redesign that corner to have the right two lane merge off.
Maybe it used to be.
Definitely looks like it could be designed like it used to be.
You would think it'd be better that way, but maybe there was a reason it didn't work that way.
What a beautiful valley to go up.
Heat.
Heat.
Excuse me. I definitely have a cold.
This is the nice flat area here.
It's so the nice flat area is so steep.
I can't I'm driving slow enough. I need fourway flashers.
If you look at the top of the trees there, you can make out where the highway climbs up the mountain where the hard climb is coming up all the way up to Hope Slide.
I think the whole slide should be called Sunshine Valley Slide, but 65 km an hour in the flat section.
This is Yeah, it's a 1% to 2% grade.
And then we hit the 8% grade.
We're up to 3% now.
Then four, five, 6, 7, 8% grade.
GPS is actually flashing at 9%.
Oh, it's actually saying 10% here.
Even 11%. Might average 8%.
I've actually never watched the grades out here.
Unfortunately, I'm driving too slow for the GPS to give me proper grade.
But I think it the the sign at the top of the mountain says 8% grade. So it must average an 8%.
Some of the steeper sections might be 10%.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
It's always fun to watch the chorus change throughout the day.
Here you go.
Kind of relaxing actually climbing up this slow.
27 km an hour.
Sure is a lot more climbing than the Cocaala.
I don't know. Maybe isn't Pocah's fairly high up. It feels like it's more climbing. It might just be steeper climbing.
Almost feel like that slide area there is like halfway up. Heat.
Heat.
We're going to have to clear out some of that slide area. Looks like a lot of rock came down.
Starting to fill it up much more. and it's going to come up over the barrier.
It's one of those areas where they just gave up trying to stop the slide. Just put up a barrier and clean it up every now and then.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Looks like a tow truck had a big uh big rig tire on the back.
Must be must be going up the mountain replacing someone's tire.
We normally just call load calire.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Wonder if I got some cough drops in here.
I do. I just don't know where.
There's a package that has s been sitting up there forever.
Oh yeah.
>> Yeah. Some red or something on there.
Green was closed for like 24 hours. No business. Oh wow.
Yeah.
Clean up.
That's for sure.
Sounds like some chatter from the Cocaala.
Oh, that's not good.
All right.
This area wanted to go for office.
made it to the top.
Yeah, I don't know. Like I said, I was here. I was just getting ready to leave and I was looking at your window. He was driving by.
Welcome to Sunshine Valley.
I saw the little lake swamp area on the left actually has a beaver dam in it.
That'd be super cool to come kayak in that.
Those are my favorite places to go sw uh kayaking in the swampier swampier lakes, finding the little trails to get kayak through.
Hey, it's sunny in Sunshine Valley.
That's kind of nice.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up here.
Welcome to Manning Park, West Gate.
So the little creek river we see on our right hand side that flows into the Scadget Reverse and you know who you are. Keep me updated on that uh bike ride along the Crows Nest Highway once you guys hit the Alberta border and making making progress up and over Crow's Nest Pass. And uh let me know how a Cney pass goes. Once once they get to the Cney, the chances of running into me are going to be much higher. So keep me updated and if we see you on the road, we'll give you a good air horn blast. Heat.
Heat.
There's the old engineers engineers road basically used to uh scout out the trail here.
Now, the engineers road, was that part of Dudney Trail or was the Dudney Trail down here? And that engineer road actually predates Dudney Trail. I'm not sure.
uh in the river there's uh some some places these beautiful beautiful yellow flowers. I'm seeing just little sights of here and there in the swampier section.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Hard to beat the views of Highway 3.
Although Highway One through the canyon is absolutely gorgeous as well.
So, if you're ever coming through BC and you have the extra time, detour either Highway 3 or Highway 1, avoid the uh the famous Cocaala Highway.
The views are much prettier on the other two highways.
Although as a driver, you really got to focus on the road.
Excuse me. I need to stop talking and just enjoy the scenery.
And these highways don't have a lot of room for error.
vulture.
Look like a turkey vulture. Don't see those very often.
So much for the easy part of the drive.
Back to hard hard climbing. Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up here.
Hey, I'm doing 50 km an hour. As we're coming into a 50 km an hour zone, I'm doing pretty good.
Heat. Heat.
They're replacing this bridge over here.
So, we have to take drive over a temporary bridge beside the brand new bridge.
Well, I hope you guys enjoyed that. I'll pull over here shortly and uh take a break, maybe swap out some camera batteries and record another video cuz I think it's like perfect weather and the perfect load to keep shooting video for another day.
Having said that, every time I do, I usually screw up the video. So, let's not screw up the video this time.
80 km sign is new. Speed limit here normally is 100.
See the most be beautiful viewpoints.
right for the end of the video.
Enough room for me to pull into there, I think. So, way down in the bottom, that is Scadget River.
Okay, I'm out of here.
You guys absolutely rock.
