[00:00:00]As the United States prepares to mark 250 years, we are celebrating the next generation of voices shaping our nation's story. This week we introduce you to Mia, a high school student defining her own journey, both flying high on the track field and also calling the shots behind the theater scenes, too. Here's her American story.

[00:00:18]>> Something about flying through the air that's just very exhilarating.

[00:00:22]Hi, my name is Mia. I'm a theater kid, a student, and a pole vaulter. And this is my American story.

[00:00:31]My friends actually introduced me to track. And during my time at track, I fell in love with pole vaulting. You're upside down, you're flipping, it's amazing. The feeling of just being in the air is something that's not natural, and I love it. It's very different from anything you could probably experience being on land, and there's just something about flying through the air that's just very exhilarating.

[00:00:58]Aside from sports, [music] I'm also the stage manager for our school's theater production. When I'm behind the scenes in the productions going on, I also feel a rush of adrenaline. Rather than acting, >> [music] >> I like managing, it's more up my alley.

[00:01:12]Headsets on, I'm talking with my crew members backstage. It's like a closer, tighter knit community back there. My next step, hopefully, is to continue pole vaulting in college and see where life takes me. I probably am living my dream right now.

[00:01:28]I'm in high school, I got great friends around me, I got great extracurricular activities, and that's my American story.
