This is The Most ABSURD Idea I've Attempted In Trailmakers
Added:Welcome back to the channel and today I'm probably taking on the most ridiculous challenge in the comments that I've ever actually decided to do.
I've gotten a lot of ridiculous challenges in the comments that just don't make sense. This one makes just enough sense that it might actually work, but even trying it is still pretty stupid. But I'm going to try it anyway.
This comes from Ammano Elvelar. They said, "Make a helicopter, but you can only fly by spinning your camera." So, this comment was left on my aiming uh sensor video because we got this new block called the aiming sensor, and this block tracks where your camera is looking. Now, oddly enough, it might not work with this. I might actually have to use the aiming servo, but let's test it out. And the reason being is because I don't know if the aiming sensor is compatible with 360° of fluid movement.
So, what I mean by that is if I take a servo such as this and uh let's just put a block on top. Uh if we hook this up into the servo, I actually got to I haven't used this since I made the video and I got to remember how to use it.
Let's turn the speed up. Uh let's turn the angle of the servo all the way around. Slap a seat on this thing. So, now you can see there's the problem.
So what this is doing is this is outputting a value. Yeah. So the value is betweengative -1 and one. And the issue with that is when you reach the rear point of where those values flip, we have a flip. It goes instantaneously from one to negative one, which is not a smooth transfer. Now, on the other hand, something we might be able to do is actually, funny enough, using the old old school as if this this is actually pretty new school relative to the game's age, but the aiming servo, which this was essentially introduced to uh fix, not fix, but um add some additional functionality that the aiming servo wasn't really ideal for. But this particular challenge might be the aiming servo strength. So, where is the aiming servo? All right, here we go. So now, cuz the aiming servo can do a smooth 360. So we just set the speed up on this thing now.
There we go. So now I can theoretically do that. Well, actually, I don't even know if it can keep up. I don't know how fast that can go. Huh. Oh, well, we can see now. Oh, it's not fast enough. So that's a downside. This might not be possible. Well, you know what? This may not be fast enough. If Wait, do I stacking aiming servos? Doesn't make sense, right? This doesn't make sense cuz they're both going to be aiming in the same direction. They're not going to like Wait a minute. Does this make sense? Does this actually make it faster? You know what? Here's what we can do. So then one side's going to have two aiming servos. One side's going to have one aiming servo. Does this Does this make a difference? It kind of looks like it makes a difference, doesn't it?
Oh, it's a bad difference.
I don't know. Hold on. Aiming servo strength is 100. Damping. Let's put damping down.
Ah, I don't know. I don't know what's going on. All right. So, now we have forward.
It's actually not doing too bad. I don't think the stack makes a difference other than stability. You know what? Maybe we can do this. By the way, if you didn't already uh figure this out, uh viewer discretion is advised. This might be a dizzying episode cuz we're literally going to be spinning the camera to try to fly. This is one of the reasons why I said this is probably the most ridiculous idea I've actually I've actually tried to do cuz normally I would have said no to this because what a terrible viewer experience, but it's also so absurd. I have like I will kind of want to experience it as a viewer of my own experience. All right.
So, the the question then just becomes, can I spin my camera? Can this follow my camera fast enough? And can I spin my camera fast enough to create lift? So, let's build I guess just a small prototype. I think the larger blades are going to be the best bet cuz they won't need to go as fast, I assume.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What's going on? It's just spinning my seat. What is going on?
Well, if my seat Hold I need more weight down here. Uh, there's that.
We add a tail. All right, that should at least stabilize us a little bit. Okay, look at that.
Look at that rotor spin. All right, ready.
Okay, now we got center of mass issues.
How do I control the I guess this is like we have liftoff. This is going to be absolutely insane. I think this might work. It's going to be so stupid, but it might work. But we're going to have to keep like gliding like to get our bearings. All right, center mass is right here, which means we're going to like flip over backwards. I just don't know how much weight we can afford to add to this thing. I'm just going to add 30 kg up front right now.
be a little bit more like up here.
Really trying to get the center of mass under that rotor cuz yeah, this tail can't really unless I have my rotor way up higher. This tail cannot be any more forward without interfering with the rotor. I could also make this way lighter. Maybe actually lower the You know what? I'll lower the tail down a little bit, too. Uh yeah, we can use these grid blocks to lighten up our frame. All right, so we need enough to at least control our set. So let's let's get some gyros in here for control.
and stability. Okay. So, honestly, just having these here will give us a better idea of if this is uh working because it'll keep us horizontal. All right.

You know what's Oh, you know what's great about these is um they work the helicopter blades work both ways.

Now I'm a little bit confused on why my seat continues to rotate.
I get Okay. No, that doesn't make sense.
It's trying to face in the direction.
Hold on. Let's go higher.

Wait, now. Now it should be going the other way. See, this is weird. That's why it's weird. Okay, we need to add some more controls to this thing. I think this idea is going to actually work. It's the stupidest idea I've ever done, but it's working. This is exactly the kind of stupidity that the channel needs right now. Okay, so let's get some steering gyros and all that in here. You know what? I should add weapons to this thing and see if we can Let's just see if we can blow something up cuz we have to demonstrate some level of controllability, right? All right. So, this is going to be our left and right.
And we got some pitch and some roll. All right. I think it'll also help to give this thing some like wings. These wings will also be what our rockets can get attached to as well.
But I feel like this will help us with our um when we're not when we're actually looking where we want to go, but we're kind of like it'll help us kind of glide in that direction, not fall so fast out of the sky. I hope.
Okay, now we got some rockets. I just pressed space bar to go up in the air as if that's going to do anything. That's not how this works. Okay, you ready?
One, two, three.
Okay, we have liftoff. Now we need to go forward.
Okay, I need some more context. Okay, we're we fall out of the sky pretty bad.
I think I need to bring this thing into a map cuz I don't know if I'm turning my seats a lot. Oh, I am. This thing has torque. Okay, unless there's a trick. I I I hope this works. If I put a uh because this is a single rotor right now, I don't think it would not be possible to create a counter rotating uh setup like a a dual rotor helicopter with this because they're always going to rotate the same direction, which is the the direction of my camera spin. So, I need to counter the torque. And the way that that can work with a normal helicopter is a bit of an exploit where where is it? It's got to be here. Yeah, there it is. If you have a rotating servo as a buffer between your actual rotating blades, this can act as like a essentially torque canceller. So, let's see if it works with this. It might just make the blades less stable, but I don't know. I honestly don't know if it's working or not. Uh cuz we need to Yeah, we need to go to another map where I have visual references around me that I can see if I'm spinning. So, let's save this for now. Let's hop into a map with some terrain. All right, it's official. We have a helellipad. Uh, so you know that this is a legit challenge now. Uh, that could be stronger. Left and right. Goes up to like five.
Oh, excuse me.
I'm doing nothing right now. This is not how helicopters are supposed to work.
Wait, how did we end up here?
This is actually ridiculous.
So, oh my goodness, we've created a feedback loop.
Okay, this is actually ridiculous. So, in my effort to cancel out the torque, it had a side effect that also is a result of um attaching two moving parts immediately together without like buffers in between. When two parts are attached, when two moving parts are attached consecutively like that, it often introduces some instability, which I think is what's happening here, which interestingly enough, it's not doing it anymore. H, that is interesting. I don't know why it was doing it then, but not now. But I do need to adjust some servo strengths.
Oh, it's happening again. I'm doing nothing right now, and it's doing the inconsistent. So, it the aiming servo is trying to look where I'm looking, but there's a stability uh overcorrection that causes it to oscillate, which actually creates lift.
Oh, and oh, and now we're introducing lift back into Okay, interesting. When I look this way, it doesn't it's doing the verticality check. So, the verticality check means that it doesn't try to like rotate where I'm looking if it's on the wrong axis. And so when I tilt far enough forward, it actually does that.
But this is not consistent. I mean, this is working right now. This is not the intended functionality of it. Weirdly enough, we're definitely not going to be able to hit a target if this is how we function. Um, I am noticing that the torque the intended uh torque dampening did not really happen. It did not really happen. You can see that we're clearly counter torquing our entire body of our craft. But um it is allowing me to go where I want to go. Interestingly enough, I just don't know how to go down without nose diving. Like I can't really like Oh, wait. Yeah. Do if I do this or do this. If I do Okay. No, I can't go down. I literally can't go down. All right. Here. Let's uh respawn back on the ground. All right. See, now it's fixed. And yeah, now it's fixed. And by fixed, I mean ridiculous now because now we actually have to do the thing. We've got to do the thing it was designed to do, which is absolutely ridiculous. You ready? All right. Three, two, one, take off.
All right. I think we are torquing cuz I was facing that way and then I do this.
Oh, wait. No, I'm still kind of facing that way. Okay. All right. Let's get up in the sky again. Oh, see now. Yeah, we're we're getting we're getting some counter torque cuz I'm not facing where I need to face. Now, if I do Oh my goodness. You know, I think I also need Nope. That's ridiculous, too. I need like a different camera. So, what I kind of need is a camera that tilts down with me. So, if I tilt too far down, it doesn't really work.
All right. And we got this problem going on. That's even worse than sticky. All right. Let's go back to orbit. All right. I'm just going to get rid of this rotating servo because it seems to be causing problems and not solving problems. So, let's just see how this thing feels. Right now, we're turning a lot, which I don't like. And we can tilt forward and we try to go forward. Uh, I don't even know what's happening. All right, here we are. Oh my goodness. This is so ridiculous. You know what this is missing? This might help marginally.
There's some horizontal stabilizers by the tail as well.
All right, there we go. We got a tail.
Now, if I want to go forward, this is not working. Like, how do I go where I want to go is the question. Cuz look, like, we're facing the opposite direction of where I wanted to face. I mean, the lift works great. I really didn't think the rotor was going to go fast enough, be able to generate lift.
So, like, we can generate lift all day if I just literally swing my camera around. Like, I'm actually really surprised at how well, like, look at the rotor. It's keeping up with us pretty well. We got a bunch of lived there. We do not soar as lightly as I was wait. I I'm stuck. I can't even move my camera right now. What is going on?
Like my mouse isn't working right now. I don't even know what's happening. I don't know what's going Okay, there we go. All right, we're back in the air apparently.
Okay, we go this way. So, here's my goal. Obviously, we are to destroy something. I think that's going to be easier than the goal I'm currently trying to do. My the goal I'm currently trying to do is get to the helellipad. I want to if I can navigate this thing to the helellipad.
It's not a complete failure.
I don't know how I'm going to regulate my directional orientation though. I'm just like, oh my goodness. Oh, we need we need to go higher.
Oh, we've just lost some Oh, no. There's no way to regulate which direction I'm facing. This doesn't work. Like, go that way, right? Are we have like I don't know. We're having some type of like gyroscopic process procession effect or what?
But I cannot. No. And we're in the water, which doesn't matter because this isn't an actual motor. I could just do this and get myself out of the water. I thought, okay, now I'm going underwater.
All right. And I got kicked out of the seat. So, there's that. Getting to the helellipad.
I don't know if that's going to work.
Oh. Oh, wait a minute. Nope. Nope. That doesn't work either.
If I do this way, this averages out.
I'm so sorry for the viewer experience, but you should have known this is exactly what you were getting into when you decided to start watching this video. I explained everything at the beginning on how I was going to control this helicopter and I think I found the way to do it by going back and forth. We average out the torque effects so we have an overall straight trajectory. I think this is working. The island looks like it's getting bigger as it sways back and forth. Look at this. I'm going to land on this helipad.
I am so going to land on I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it.
It's like I'm flapping. I'm flapping with my mouse, right? We're a bird.
We're a hella bird. This is going to work though. This is stupid. This is not I'm not even flying like a helicopter's supposed to fly anymore, but this is a camera controlled rotor. This is way as Can you fly by spinning your camera? I'm spinning it back and forth. Okay. All right. Now, we need We really need to go up now. Need some altitude. Look at that. It's working. The helellipad's down there. I think bigger movements definitely help. All right, there we go.
Now, let's start going forward. I'm tilting forward. I'm going forward.

Look at that. I flew from the aircraft carrier to the helipad. And you know what? It was a pleasant journey. That was a lie. That was not very pleasant. It was a smooth journey for the the the not the driver experience, but if anyone else was in there and imagine that the pilot was doing what I was doing and they're just in the cockpit like to just get the whole thing like imagine you have like a camera controlled like a head sensor like with VR and stuff. That would be ridiculous. Uh and that's what you see your pilot doing to try to go.
Okay. So, now what I want to do is um I'm gonna place something down on the map. So, here this truck. I hope it survives the fall.
Oh, there we go. Goodbye.
You know what? It didn't do too bad. So, now my goal, fly the helicopter off the helipad, use the missiles to destroy the truck.
Return to the helellipad. Mission accomplished. All right, here we go.
Liftoff.

Let's take one more view at it. How are we doing? Okay, the cockpit is completely damaged. Uh clearly, we've eliminated the target. Uh let's retreat back to base. Not retreat, but just return. Mission accomplished. Get some altitude by whipping the camera back and forth. All right, we're almost there. I can see it right there. You see it?

Now, we just go this way.

And perfect. Right in the middle of the helipad.
So, I don't know if that's what you had in mind, but it is a little bit more doing the back and forth method does give you more unlimited uh control because if I had to do this method, at least with a mouse, um you'd have to keep like going pausing, going, pausing, going, pausing, going, pausing. This way, it's just you can always go back and forth, but you run out of mouse pad if you just keep trying to go to one side. Although, that does seem like a good way to get some quick altitude cuz this seems to be a little bit more limited in the strength, but this I think that gets us up there pretty quick. One more. One more return to the helipad now that I've just gotten off the helipad. There we go.
Look at that. That was a good landing.
That was definitely the best landing yet. I can't believe I actually went with this idea. Was it Was it Did you enjoy it? Was it entertaining? At least I hope it was entertaining. It was just silly enough that I figured that like I I would want to see what it looked like to try to fly a helicopter with the camera, but it it was actually surprisingly doable. It was really doable. It wasn't at first when I was going the circular route, but that was doable with the back and forth route.
So, um, Ammano, I hope that was everything you imagined it would be, and hopefully even a little bit more. This is absolutely the worst vehicle, the worst helicopter to ever use. Do not recommend it.
