Military General Has An Affair With The New Captain's Beautiful Wife | Movie RecapAdded:
This colonel has it all, power and [music] respect, and he is on course to become general soon. All thanks to his marriage to the old general's daughter.
His entire life is perfect until one glance at the new captain's beautiful wife changes everything. He immediately becomes [music] obsessed with her. And what starts as a silent attraction quickly turns into a dangerous affair that [music] he can't control. He even starts looking for ways to keep her husband away, so he will have her all for himself. And before he could return to his senses and have a rethink, his secret affair becomes too dangerous to ignore as it soon starts to threaten to destroy everything he's ever built.
The film opens in a room where we see several Korean military officers [music] celebrating a major victory over Vietnam. Colonel Kim Jin-pyeong is among those being honored after he helped capture an island. And his superior invites him to drink in celebration. At first, Jin-pyeong refuses >> [music] >> as he claims that he has only recently given up alcohol. But when the general pressures him, he eventually gives in.
And as the celebration continues, Jin-pyeong quietly [music] steps outside to throw up. Then, he tries to compose himself as he lights a cigarette only for two officers to walk outside and gossip about the general only praising Jin-pyeong because he is his son-in-law.
By the next morning, [music] Jin-pyeong is met by Captain Kyung Woo-jin, who is a newly transferred officer. And while reviewing his records, Jin-pyeong notices that they both served in Vietnam. But his attention is quickly drawn to a woman's name listed in Kyung's file. That is when Kyung explains that his wife is Chinese >> [music] >> and even shares that her birthday is the same as the captain's. This piece of information seems to draw [music] Jin-pyeong's interest. However, when he returns home later that evening, his wife prepares dinner and reminds him about a hospital photo session with the nurses the next day. And as they eat, she also mentions that she's met with Captain Kyung's wife as she even tells him that she feels [music] relieved that the couple also has no children just like them. That is when Jin-pyeong notices red circles marked across [music] the calendar on the wall. And when he asks, his wife explains that they are her ovulation dates.
>> [music] >> And since that day is marked, the couple decides to try for a child that very night. Afterward, [music] Jin-pyeong is out walking alone when he hears birds chirping nearby and he follows the sound. [music] When he eventually finds several rows of cages with birds, he absent-mindedly blows his cigarette smoke toward one only for a woman to suddenly appear and tell him that the birds don't like that. He turns quickly to see who it was and that is when he realizes that it is Captain Kyeong's [music] wife, Jang Ji-heon. So, he quickly apologizes and though the moment seems short, there is a strange tension [music] in the air between them. By the next morning, Jin-pyeong visits his doctor where he reveals that he has been seeing disturbing visions and suffering [music] panic attacks since the war. And that is when the doctor explains that they are signs of PTSD and tells him that he needs treatment. He then gives him some medications and strictly tells him to avoid alcohol. And just before leaving, Jin-pyeong asks if anyone else knows about his condition only for the doctor to reassure him that it will remain confidential. Later on, Jin-pyeong visits the hospital where we see his wife waiting with others for him so he can take part in a photo session with the nurses [music] including Captain Kyeong's wife. Soon after the pictures, he proceeds to inspect the facility [music] and observe the nurses who were caring for the wounded officers. Meanwhile, Jin-pyeong's wife introduces herself to Ji-heon [music] and casually asks why she and her husband have no children.
Though she is clearly uncomfortable with the question, Ji-heon eventually admits that she has been unable to conceive.
Just then, one of the injured soldiers calls for Jin-pyeong's wife to help him sit up. But as she moves closer, Ji-heon notices a blade in the soldier's hand and before anyone can react, Ji-heon [music] lunges forward, pushes Jin-pyeong's wife out of harm's way, and ends up being taken hostage by the soldier.
>> [music] >> The entire room is thrown into chaos until Jin-pyeong rushes in and tries to calm the unstable soldier. He gently urges the man to release Ji-heon, but the soldier keeps shouting that he wants to be sent [music] back to the war. That is when Jin-pyeong realizes that the man is still trapped in a war-driven hallucination. So, Jin-pyeong tells him he is already home, but the soldier refuses to listen and left with no other choice, Jin-pyeong draws his gun and points it at him. The The rises instantly and [music] Ji-heon, now very much terrified, begs him to lower the weapon. In the end, Jin-pyeong does so and lowers his gun, then promises the soldier that he will help him return to war if he lets her go. For a moment, it works, but just as the man loosens his grip, he suddenly lunges for the gun and a struggle breaks out. Then a gunshot rings out and Ji-heon is hit in the shoulder. This forces Jin-pyeong to quickly push the man away and check on Ji-heon as others rush in to check on her, too. Later that afternoon, when Jin-pyeong is passing [music] by, he hears shouting from another room and he quickly turns to check it out. That is when he sees Kwang beating up the unstable [music] soldier and telling him that he is a disgrace to the force.
However, Jin-pyeong quickly steps in to stop him before reminding Kwang that the man was only hallucinating and suffering from PTSD. [music] Afterward, the two step outside to talk and Jin-pyeong asks if he can visit [music] Kwang's wife to apologize for the trauma that she experienced earlier.
Kwang joyfully agrees and Jin-pyeong later visits Ji-heon in the hospital with flowers and asks how she is feeling. That is when she casually remarks that the flowers will wilt without water. So, he quickly goes to search for a vase, trims the stems, carefully [music] arranges them before returning to her room. Then he surprises her by giving her missing earring back.
However, she struggles to put it on because of her injured arm, so she asks him to help her. And as he gently places it for her, she tells him she was deeply moved by his courage that day. Although it was a soft appreciation [music] from her, the moment seems to spark a deep interest in the captain's mind as he starts to think about her more often.
However, Jin-pyeong soon learns from another officer that the owner of a local music studio where he often visits has been [music] arrested. Since he knows the man, Jin-pyeong joins the interrogation and that is when he discovers the strange accusation [music] against him is simply dancing with officers' wives on Monday mornings. So, Jin-pyeong defends him [music] as he manages to convince the authorities that there was no bad intent and he eventually secures his release.
Afterward, the two share a drink and when Jin-pyeong asks his friend why he chooses only Mondays, [music] the man jokingly explains that lonely housewives like to begin their mischief at the start of the week as we start to get the idea that it might actually just be more than dancing. In the meantime, Jin Pyeong's mind starts to get consumed by the thoughts of [music] Jae-hoon. And just as he is lost in one of such moments, his wife tells him that they will be joining Kwang and his wife for a picnic that afternoon. When they eventually arrive, [music] their engagement is initially awkward as Kwang seems to talk way more than necessary. Then at one point, Jin Pyeong and Jae-hoon are left [music] alone and the atmosphere immediately shifts between them. She quietly admits that she hasn't stopped thinking about him since his visit at the hospital. Her confession seems to free up his mind as he also admits that she has been on his mind, [music] too. But just as their emotions begin to surface, Jae-hoon changes the subject and asks [music] about the engraved design on his lighter. And when he sees that she admires it, Jin Pyeong quickly picks it up and slips it into her bag as he tells her that he is giving her it as a gift.
And from that moment onwards, we see that the two start to exchange subtle lingering glances at every moment they get together and even in public spaces.
Then one evening, the military [music] hosts a formal party for officers and their families. Jae-hoon arrived in a strikingly beautiful dress and she instantly drew the attention [music] of a high-ranking officer. So, he asks her to dance with him and although she seems uneasy about it, her husband encourages her to accept as he hopes [music] to impress his superior. But she isn't the only one not impressed by the gesture as we see that Jin Pyeong has also noticed Jae-hoon's uneasiness as he sees the older man's hand lingering on her back.
Unable to bear watching, yet powerless to interfere, Jin Pyeong quietly walks away to the restroom. But just moments later, Jae-hoon enters the room as she tells him that she's been looking for him. That is when Jin Pyeong apologizes for not protecting her from the officer.
But even at that, Jae-hoon still tells him that she is grateful for him. And in a moment of overpowering emotion, he suddenly kisses her as the two share a passionate moment together. And just before things get deeper, they hear a knock on the restroom door that [music] forces them apart as Jae-hoon quickly slips away before anyone sees them. In the meantime, we see several wives of the officers gather for tea at Jin Pyeong's wife's place, except for Jae-hoon. And as they talk, we They learn more about Jae-hoon's past as the women gossip that during the [music] war, her family had fled into the mountains, but after her father died, her mother was forced to abandon her.
She was later taken in by Kyong's mother, who eventually arranged for her to marry her son. [music] Meanwhile, we see that Jin-pyeong has suddenly decided to learn how to dance from his friend.
Several days later, Captain Kyong and his [music] wife join Jin-pyeong and his wife for dinner. And while Kyong and Jin-pyeong's wife were busy in the kitchen preparing [music] the food, Jin-pyeong quietly wrote a note to Ji-heon asking to see her alone. When he passes the note to her, she quickly gets the message and [music] discreetly writes back telling him to meet her at the cathedral the next day. And the two quickly settle down as the others join them. By the following afternoon, Jin-pyeong drives out to meet Ji-heon [music] outside the cathedral and the two eventually drive deep into a forest far from everyone. The moment is clearly charged [music] between the two as though they have been waiting for it for a very long time. And unable to resist anymore, they eventually cross the line.
After spending a long time together, Jin-pyeong drops Ji-heon off some distance from [music] her home just so no one suspects them. But in the days that follow, he cannot stop thinking about her until he becomes [music] totally consumed by deep longing for her. And he starts to devise a plan to send both their spouses away for a few days on a supposed mission. However, when Kyong tells Ji-heon that he's been assigned to assist an English convoy as a translator, she immediately suspects [music] that something is in play. And as expected, as soon as Kyong leaves, Jin-pyeong visits Ji-heon late at night only for her to refuse [music] to let him in as she accuses him of interfering with her affairs by sending her husband away. She even hands over the lighter that he had gifted her as she tells him that she is no longer interested. This leaves him feeling [music] rejected and frustrated as he goes to the music studio and drinks with his friend. Then in his drunken state, he confesses that he has been involved with Kyong's wife.
His friend initially plays it down as a joke, but when he sees the seriousness in his face, [music] he eventually warns Jin-pyeong to stop before things go out of control. However, he is still unable to stay away [music] and he returns to Ji-heon later that night. And this time he brings some soup along since it is her birthday. In the end, she eventually lets him inside, >> [music] >> and as they eat, they both admit their relationship should end. But despite their words, their body can't seem to agree with their head as they once again allow their emotions to set in, >> [music] >> and they spend the entire night together. And over the following days, while their spouses are still away, the two continue to meet in secret as it starts to appear as though they have finally given in to their desires, and they don't care what the consequences may be. But as they enjoy their time together one day, Jin-pong [music] receives a call that Jae-hoon's mother has been in an accident and she is at the hospital. So, he [music] immediately drives her there, and when they arrive, they find her mother and mother-in-law in the room. Immediately, the two enter the room. Jae-hoon's mother-in-law looks at the two of them, and she quickly senses that something is happening between them. She eventually confronts Jae-hoon outside the room, and to her surprise, the woman doesn't condemn her.
Instead, she simply tells her to follow her heart as she even admits that she always knew her son was never the right man for her. Although the moment ought to have given Jae-hoon some peace, yet when she returns to the truck where Jin-pang is waiting, she tells him what they are doing is wrong and that it has [music] to end. Her words hit him hard, and although she steps out of the car and starts to walk away, Jin-pyong refuses to accept it as he continues to find ways and think of how to get her back. His obsession about Jae-hoon soon starts to show even at home, and his wife notices how withdrawn he had become. Seeing no other way out of the situation, Jin-pyong decides to use one of his connections to frame [music] Captain Kwang for smuggling drugs. The plan works and Kwang is eventually arrested. However, when he is interrogated, he simply insists that he has been set up, and when his mother hears this, [music] she quickly realizes that Jin-pyong might just be behind it all. So, she calls Jae-hoon aside and simply tells her to fix the damage. And still loyal to her husband, Jae-hoon later meets with Jin-pyong [music] to plead with him to help clear Kwang's name. And though reluctant at first, he eventually agrees to do it. The following night, when Jin-pyong returns home, he is surprised by his [music] wife who is waiting for him with a party group that she's arranged with their colleague friends. That is when we learn that Jin-pyong has just been promoted to general. However, as they sit to eat and celebrate, Jin Pyeong's mind constantly drifts towards Ji-hye Yoon, who is just across the table from him. Then, his wife suddenly announces to everyone that she is pregnant. The news comes as a shock to him, and instead of happiness, his mind is filled with regret for his actions. And as the night goes on, Jin Pyeong starts to drown his sorrows in alcohol. However, he soon notices that Ji-hye Yoon has stepped [music] outside, so he follows her. By the time he meets her, he asks why she keeps rejecting him, only for her to once again turn him away and walk back inside. But, Jin Pyeong wouldn't give up this time, as he follows her back inside and loses his cool and starts to shout in front of everyone [music] that he wants Ji-hye Yoon back. The entire room went silent, and now in total emotional collapse, >> [music] >> he eventually blurts out everything about their secret affair for all to hear. Everyone is shocked by what they were hearing, and unable to bear the disgrace, [music] Kyeong rushes to stop him. And soon the place turns into total chaos as the other men try to separate them. The news soon spreads, and Jin Pyeong is confronted by his father-in-law, who strongly condemns the scandal and [music] tells him that he has ordered him to be sent overseas so he can reflect on the magnitude of what he has done. However, before he leaves, Jin Pyeong [music] meets Ji-hye Yoon one final time as he tells her that he has simply come to apologize and to tell her that he is being sent to Vietnam. Then, in a last desperate plea, he asks her to go with him, but she refuses again as she tells him that it is over for them.
This finally breaks [music] his last hope, and unable to endure the pain anymore, Jin Pyeong makes a devastating choice as he pulls out his gun and shoots himself in the chest. The sight leaves Ji-hye Yoon in disbelief as she [music] cries out for her neighbors for help. Then, the movie cuts to several years later as we see that Jin Pyeong's wife's daughter has grown up, and we hear the women talk about her father.
That is when we learn that he had miraculously survived his attempt to take his own life, and that he was subsequently discharged [music] from service when he refused to take orders.
Then, we see that Ji-hye Yoon now lives in a large mansion. One day, she gets a card message, >> [music] >> and when she checks, she finds that it was just a picture of her with Jin Pyeong. That is when the officer that delivered the message tells her [music] that they had found the picture on one of the men who had been fighting with them for several years. He tells Ga-heun that although the man wasn't part of their squad, he had saved them several times [music] until his death. And that just before he died, he had kept tugging at his pockets until the soldiers were able to retrieve the picture. Hearing all these, tears [music] welled up in Ga-heun's eyes as she realized once again that Jin-pyeong is the only man who truly loved her. And as she turns the photograph over, she finds the two words that confirm her thoughts, written in his handwriting, "My love."
