The Tardes Viaduct, built by Gustave Eiffel between 1882-1885, is a 250.50m long and 91.33m high railway structure in Chambon-sur-Voueize, France, that exemplifies how engineering failures can lead to lasting innovation; during its construction, a rare storm broke one of the viaduct's components, forcing Eiffel to redesign and rebuild it, a lesson that directly contributed to the Eiffel Tower's enduring structural integrity.

This Great Day Did Not End To PlanAdded:
I'm afraid it ends here. [music] [music] Good morning.
I have big plans for today. First of all, we're going to go to a small village that is known because it's so beautiful. Shambong Vu or something like that as you see Vuez and it also has a beautiful gorge and a little walk to it. So that we're going to do first. Then Teemo is walked and he's tired. And after that we're going to go to a special structure and that involves 1600 tons of steel. So, come along.
By the way, I had a good night's sleep here. It was very quiet. I wasn't sure if I could stay here, but two more campers arrived after the all the normal cars left.
It was perfect.
So, yeah, strongly recommend it.
And then we were there. It's already looking gorgeous.
How pretty is that?
Well, I guess we're going to walk through the village while we find a hike because the starting point is right here somewhere in the village. So, we'll find it. Don't think we'll see any people cuz it's only 8:00 in the morning.
Very nice. Very small. Very nice.
Wow, this place is amazing. ing small, very beautiful. I can see why they have that uh sort of yeah extra name, beautiful village of France. Don't know what it means. I'll have to look it up.
All right, team.
Goodbye.
So, we're out of town and by the look of that sign on the right direction. So, if it's just as pretty as that little town, there's water down below. Old buildings on the other side.
So, I guess that was industry in the old days. Very pretty looking. Don't know if I can film it.
It seems to be an old water mill here cuz they stopped the water. What?
And I see an old building there with a water inlet. So, yeah, watermill.
I'm not sure if I can walk on the other side further than this point. Otherwise, you could choose to walk on the other side, but don't think it'll work.
More industrial buildings. Looks like it Another mill or something driven by water. But there's something else. Look at this.
Woohoo.
That's been here a while.
And straight away we bump into the next industrial building.
>> [snorts] >> doesn't look safe to go in.
Also not for Teemo, so stay with me, boy.
[snorts] But it feels like we're approaching the end.
Seems to be a path over there.
So, let's check it out.
A very pretty spot, but those buildings are not at their best anymore.
Very very nice big sign at the beginning. Respect nature. No picking plants. No doing nothing will do.
Wow, this is pretty.
They are so pretty. I never seen those before.
There's tons of them.
Wow.
This area has so many magical places.
Keep looking.
I see it.
There's nothing.
There's nothing. Come on. Come on.
Seeing things.
Teemo is seeing things that I can't see.
Oh, well, why not?
That whole area there is a blue haze.
I've read about these uh flowers, but I've never seen them.
Not sure if the camera can pick up on them. I'll go a little closer and I see them in the distance. Whole forest is blue. I think it was the UK where they had those two.
Very pretty.
I think you need the sun to see him better, but that can be a while because we're in a gorge and it's still early.
Must be 9:00 by now.
But the sun is coming.
I just don't think I will see it.
Well, we can walk on a little maybe on the way back.
And it goes on and on and on.
It's like walking in a fairy tale.
God, I'm so glad I did this.
But we don't have more time. We have to go back.
Maybe we see some sun on the way back.
But we're getting away from the river.
And I wanted to see the gorge.
Those places with far streams, rocks, gorgees, the gorgees, gorgees.
But we have 1,600 tons of steel to go and look at.
That's going to be something else. Let's go.
This church is very different. Let's see if we can go in.
Pretty, but not spectacular.
Oh, that's nice.
that is special.
But I know nothing about these things, so I can't really uh say anything.
Who's that?
All right, time to go to Temo.
But yeah, pretty church.
And there's Teemo.
Hello.
Good boy.
Well, that was a nice extra treat.
All right, up to the car.
All righty.
[snorts] I don't have a coffee. I need to charge my camera and then on to the next destination.
Well, Google sent me here.
Gorgeous little hamlet, but a lovely lady told me that it's all private land and I cannot go there. She says you cannot go there at all.
We'll try. We'll try.
Take two.
Another option is there's an ober, but it looks to be quite a bit away.
But maybe there's a walking path from there.
They might even speak English and be able to explain it a little bit better cuz she said I had to go to a village and then I could only go to a viewpoint.
That's not what I want.
H I've seen a glimpse of it. So if we don't see it, the drone might see it. So let's do this.
This is the path to an ober and I think there might be access from there but it could be quite the climb but I see high rocks.
Don't know as long as we can see it.
But Google showed me the Oberia that had all these images. Looks like a poss.
Very nice.
Oh, look.
All right, I'm going in the field and see if the drone can find it over there.
Everything is fenced off. That is a big mountain ridge.
I can see it through the trees.
Oh, how mean is this?
I can see bits and pieces through the trees.
>> [sighs] >> Maybe I can get a little bit on the field.
Can you see it?
That thing is built by Gustaf Eiffel.
And if you don't know who that is, that's the same guy that built the Eiffel Tower.
And that thing marked a turnaround in his carrier.
It's just too bad we can't get there.
He built it between 1882 and 1885.
It's 91 m high and 250 m long.
But that's not all so important. During the build, they had one of these one in a 100 years storms, once in a generation kind of thing, and it broke.
So he had to go back to the drawing table, start all over and came up with a new version. And that was such a learning curve for him that later when he built the Eiffel Tower, he built something to last. I mean, it's still there. That's still there.
Fantastic. Right.
So, yeah, very special place.
I found some images. I will put them in.
But there's hope.
cuz I read somewhere that to preserve its existence and have people enjoy it, there's going to be a bicycle and hiking route that will go through it, over it. How do you say it? It'll evolve it. So, yeah. And that might be finished next year.
That would be fantastic. We'll be back.
Get in.
I guess if you're local, there must be a path to it. They do maintenance.
It used to be for a train, I think. So, there's railroad tracks. But that hill railroad track, that's got to be the bicycle and hiking uh track.
That'll be interesting.
But we have to wait at least a year.
Oh well.
And you know what? Even if one of these villagers could explain me how to find a little track, I wouldn't be able to understand.
So yeah, I'm afraid it ends here.
Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not.
What do you think? We going home? Yeah, let's do it.
