105 days until the Vols are back in Neyland

[00:00:00]All right, we are close to double-digit days until the Vols are back inside Neyland Stadium. Their season and home opener, hard to believe, September 5th against Furman. The last time the Vols faced the Paladins was way back in 1942.

[00:00:15]They won that game 52 to 7 under the leadership of interim head coach John Barnhill. At that time, the stadium could seat a little little over 31,000 fans. This is video from Shields Watkins Field from November of 1942.

[00:00:33]Barnhill served as interim this while General Robert Neyland fought in World War II. General Neyland returned to the sidelines in 1946. The Vols only lost one game in that 1942 season to the Crimson Tide. They also won the Sugar Bowl that same year. 20 years later, the stadium was recognized by a new name, one that we know well now as Neyland Stadium.
