It’s a masterclass in over-analyzing the trivial, turning a quarter-inch of tire clearance into a high-stakes engineering dilemma. Only a technical mind could find this much complexity in a toy van.

Van Diesel Fusion POWERED Econoline Van RC Crawler Takes Over Reedy Creek!
Added:What's up, guys? It's your boy, OG Red.
We back.
It's the second run of the day.
I'm out with Van Diesel.
Chad is out in the blue SR5. Chad, you got to give this thing a catchy name.
>> Little blue truck.
>> Little blue truck.
And I don't know if you can tell, but we have swamped our wheels.
Chad wanted to see what these uh Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS's are about.
How you doing?
>> You getting down?
>> Uh yeah.
>> And also, I did upgrade.
Got the Hobbywing Fusion Pro.
Guess you know that upgrade was inevitable.
I think them Mickey Thompson's look pretty good on Chad's rig.
Those are 4.55s.
I'm running 4.75s, the ones he normally keeps on his rig.
>> And there's the foam inserts, too, right?
>> Yep, those are the stock foam inserts.
Which works, and I guess it works because of the shorter sidewall, you know what I mean?
>> Yeah.
>> You don't get as much tire roll.
I believe Chad is on green inserts.
And I do see >> No, I'm switching to blue.
>> Oh, those are blues, okay.
>> I do see my tires catching a little bit, that extra quarter inch.
But, that also gives me extra quarter inch of ground clearance.
Chad loses about a quarter inch of ground clearance with those tires, but we're both on portals.
>> No rub right there, though.
Just enough to make it not rub.
Cuz that would rub before.
>> And guys, please like and subscribe.
Check out the link for Hobby King and Turnigy batteries.
Check out the link for my Amazon store.
Check out the link for the RC Scale Rope Shop.
Check them guys out, and they got some awesome scale accessories.
Ropes, bunch of winch gear.
Not just cosmetics, this stuff is useful. You can't use it all.
>> But the other transmission is a lot quieter.
Guys, I've been trying to put the Axial 3 gear with the dig in this came into a some clearance issues.
Hopefully Chad from I'm sorry. Chris from Overkill Scale Designs has worked out something.
Fixed for me.
Guys, please don't forget. Like and subscribe. Hit that like button for me.
These big tires are working on this thing.
Well, you mean you introduced me to the crawlers, they'll do anything.
Yeah, well, I don't think Chad bought a another set of tires since, have you?
>> Nope.
>> You got to switch them up, Chad. You got to get you some KM3s. You going to like them, too, I promise.
They're so close performance-wise.
I can't tell which one I like the most.
I like the way the KM3s look more. I think it got more detailed trail tread design.
>> Yeah.
I know I'd have to buy several sets of those coming up, right?
Maybe some new wheels.
>> Yeah.
I hate buying wheels. So many options.
>> Yeah.
And I don't want to get the same ones over and over, you know?
>> Yeah.
>> But I've got extras of those that would be >> I mean, though the wheels that's on here works on everything.
>> Yeah. That That like greyish color.
>> Mhm. That gunmetal, I guess.
Shout out to Brooke.
But paint job is looking awesome. Still getting compliments on it.
>> She sat at that table for so long and painted and painted and painted. She was just content to to work on it.
>> Tell me if you see it rubbing.
We're looking for tire rub. You guys see any tire rub?
Let us know in the comments.
It's one reason why he wanted to go with these smaller tires.
Look at that antenna wiggle.
Shout out to Twisted Tree RC.
His link will be in the description. Get yourself some of these scale antennas.
It's really a nice touch on any scale rig or build you got.
I have definitely got to the point to where I want one on everything I own.
>> It it going to rub, it'd rub there.
I can tell you one thing, the back you got like 1 mm, maybe 2 mm of clearance between full articulation in the back.
Man, that is close, but I don't I don't think it rubbed much.
>> No.
>> If at all.
>> I haven't heard anything, that's for sure.
>> And with the crawlers, you would definitely hear it.
>> it. There you go, you got some just now.
>> somewhere.
>> This front left would be it when it went up that first corner.
But it didn't grab, that's what I look for. I don't mind the rub.
I just hate when they grab.
>> Yeah.
>> So, I say the front you might get some at full articulation under full turn.
Should be able to live with that.
>> Though.
What's the best way to come off of this without flipping over? Right here?
>> Yep. Closer to that way.
And just take your time coming down.
So, let the FOC FOC slow as possible.
>> Hey, I didn't flip there.
>> Was that the first?
>> That's a That's a win for that one.
It might be the first time I didn't flip it right there.
>> And it feels good to have a van with this fusion in it, but in the back of my mind, I'm not worried about it overheating.
I still do think I like the feel of the out runner more, but you know.
Let's see if I got the ground clearance.
Nope.
Still got to catch this at an angle.
Just noticed my body wasn't snapped down in the front.
For those of you who don't know, this is the way this lift up.
Show you under the hood of this thing real quick.
Make sure.
Hobby Wing Fusion.
Got rid of that long 104 transmission.
Back to the action.
Yeah, go ahead.
Thanks, sir.
It wasn't worth it.
Might could have drove out of that, but I love this rig.
And it take so long to get another one.
Shout out to HobbyKing. Check that link out. That'll be in the description at www.hobbyking.com.
Don't forget about my discount code, OG Red RC.
All caps, no spaces.
Look like you still got the clearance.
Yeah.
That front wheel over there.
There you go.
Those scale ropes.
I mean, he bit off a lot and it ate it.
Ah.
And I got it about halfway down.
>> Here you go.
>> Nice.
Yeah, I'm going to I'm going to have to order some of these tires.
>> Three sets for the spare, too. It make it look way more scale on that.
>> Yeah.
>> I think they fit very well.
>> Guys, leave us a comment. Let us know what you think.
>> Me laying it forward.
>> Being young again would help, too.
>> Yeah.
If I wouldn't have bought a motorcycle that time, that would definitely help.
>> This is the closest calls I've ever had were on my my bike.
>> You still got >> No, heck no.
That was worth it. I was a jerk on my bike.
>> And it is true that other people just don't see them.
>> Yeah, and every time I rolled, I treated like it was a video game and people was trying to knock me off my bike.
>> [laughter] >> You know, I used to wheelie through traffic, 100 plus miles an hour.
I had nitrous on my GSX-R 1000.
>> Oh my gosh.
Holy cow.
>> Not a drag race bike, street bike.
It wasn't extended or nothing. We used to race from Baltimore back to Southern Maryland.
I did it in like 17 minutes, 45 minute ride.
>> [laughter] >> Oh my gosh.
>> Rock sliders earned their money again.
>> Oh.
>> LeBron James roll over.
Scoot me over a little bit. Thanks, Chad.
Yeah, scoot me over about 6 in the back. Yeah.
Thank you.
Chad has set me up in the position to win again.
Think I kind of came into that turn a little tight. This is still a new obstacle. We're still kind of figuring it out.
>> Every time it rains, it settles down a little bit more, too, it seems like.
>> Yeah, it does change, for sure.
And this is a SCX10 3 Gladiator chassis, long 13.9 wheel base.
I've just been finding all types of trouble over here.
There we go.
Oh.
All types of trouble.
Oh, thanks, Chad. Watch your back, Chad, buddy.
How you doing, buddy?
Move your truck out of the way.
In case a biker come through.
All right, man. The only thing I can say is I made all them turns pretty good.
I got nice ground clearance, but it may be upsetting the center of gravity some.
>> Appreciate your chain.
>> It might have It might have pulled out of that. It probably would have, but wasn't worth it to find out.
>> Your logo getting ready to get destroyed. [laughter] >> Yeah, I don't want nothing to happen to that big OG red logo in the middle.
I hear clocking off of the lugs.
I don't want to work out. I have to straighten it up some.
It's amazing how that quarter inch of ground clearance affects things so much more different.
Going to make a different line choice.
See them front tires grabbing real bad.
Well, it wasn't clean, but I made it through.
Thanks Chad.
The hand of Chad.
>> [laughter] >> It work well, that's for sure.
>> Guys, don't forget about the RC scale rope shop.
And Twisted Tree RC.
>> You mind if I ask your viewers for some input on this build?
>> Of course, please do.
>> So, we're talking about the the ropes.
I kind of want to go crazy with the ropes.
>> Me, too. On something.
>> On this truck.
Put a rear winch on it.
And have kind of a trail support vehicle.
Or should I wait and build another one specifically for that purpose.
You know?
>> I could say I don't think you can go wrong.
I think most of the viewers going to say start with another build.
Hey, buddy. Come on through.
>> You good, man.
>> Hey, sorry, man.
>> You, too.
Besides >> Yeah, I think most people going to tell you to go with another build just so you'll have another build.
>> [laughter] >> But And only thing I would suggest, maybe, is another build with a bigger vehicle.
>> Yeah.
So, I was thinking like a >> Not like a scale, but like you know, bigger overall vehicle.
I was thinking a uh Phoenix.
But, kind of hard to get right now.
>> Especially with the portals. I see the builders kit with the straight axles all the time.
He burned some rubber there, but >> I don't know what the difference was, but I always struggled getting my car around that big rock, and it and it went right up it, so.
These tires are winning again. There's no way I'm going to make this, though.
>> You don't know. It's different setup now. Let's see what happens. I can't wait to see what happens.
>> All right.
Somebody coming?
>> Truck.
>> Huh.
Thought it was a bike at first.
>> Me, too.
Truck.
>> Continue.
>> Well, I I'm usually work, but everybody went on vacation, so I'm on like a miniature vacation right now.
>> Oh, okay.
Oh, yeah, the day is Juneteenth.
>> Yep.
My shop owner went to Orlando, Florida, and then his sister decided she want to take a few days off, so the shop closed down for a little while.
>> They closed the whole shop?
>> Well, it's only four of us there.
>> Oh, okay.
>> It's Rob, his sister, me, and another mechanic.
>> And going for a check? Oh, okay.
>> go for it.
>> I was half got disappointed.
>> Is that the SR5 or SR7 SR5?
>> SR5, yeah.
>> I want I've got a rig at the house that's got some clones.
AR45 that aluminum housings and all.
I'm wanting to buy some of those plastic housings and what they call them trail >> The trail gear ones, yeah.
>> Yeah, cuz they look like SSD diamond pro axles.
What tires are those?
>> Those are the Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS.
>> I don't know if they're JConcepts.
>> Yeah, toss them.
They look pretty much the same.
>> Yeah.
>> I confuse some Saturday or Sunday or something.
They're sticky.
>> They call it the 08 compound, don't they?
>> Huh?
>> It's supposed to be G8, but it's a different compound than regular G8 and >> No, they probably are.
I don't know if they make uh G8s in these.
At least yet.
Guys, we got Chuck. He met up with us.
He out with his 6x6. Little late to the 6x6 party.
But, he got a awesome 6x6.
So, you guys remember from a couple of weeks ago.
I guess that was about a month ago.
>> Yeah, it's going on now.
Change out the tires.
>> Yeah.
Listen to the back. They can't sit back in the back of them.
>> Oh, okay. You got six of them.
>> Well, no. I got four of them. I need to get two more in.
>> Oh, okay. What you >> were still uh >> Canyon Trails.
>> Canyon Trails.
But, the uh But, the front four are Bostons.
See what we're doing over here.
Right here is where I'm going to have clearance issues.
When I don't roll, I do a little bit different than you.
I underhang my third a little bit.
>> Yeah, we come much further over this way.
>> Yeah.
There we go.
I'm going to come up.
>> I think you're sitting on your rail there.
>> Oh, you're actually yep.
I was like that third is long wheel base.
No good.
>> Now where you going to put my tire?
>> You can go over that rock there.
>> How much does it Does it matter on that?
>> Not too much.
>> Not too much.
I still got a little bit of body rub, didn't I?
All right.
That's harder than it looks, though.
>> Yeah, cuz it's up and at an angle, too.
>> Yeah, it wants to keep pushing it over that >> creature. I'll try to go over much more.
Right, there you go.
>> And here comes the fun part, getting it over this.
>> Yeah, you might want to bring it this way. You're going to miss this rock.
>> Yeah, I know. I missed it, I guess.
I'm going to try to do it again.
I got it.
that's a nice save, though, you're working on.
>> Yeah.
It's like it's pulling it off.
I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it or not.
>> I think you got it.
>> That SA75 servo really strong.
>> Wow.
>> You might touch all three rocks.
>> Yeah, literally.
He He was, literally.
Yeah, fall on this little rock.
Make sure that passenger catches it.
>> I can't see what I'm doing.
>> Oh, okay.
ain't no spot out there.
>> Yeah, you might want to lunge it out a little bit.
>> It's like that.
>> Oh, that's AGF RC you got in that, too, huh?
>> Yep.
>> Direct power.
>> Yep.
12 volt.
Black wheels are good on it, too, I think.
>> It does.
>> I might as well run that one with steel.
I can't use that here.
>> Mhm.
Beautiful.
Now that you said that Huh?
No, he got uh No, we actually switched tires. These the tires he normally got.
And those the tires I could run on this normally.
We just switched the day so he could take a look at it.
>> Yeah.
He got smaller pinion made a big difference, too.
Oh.
Mhm.
I'm in trouble.
Yeah.
Here we go.
>> Stock one I think was 14 and I I I down to 11.
I'm in trouble again.
Yeah, that water must have had a little WD-40 in it.
>> [laughter] >> He got some lead in it. Got the tires slick.
I don't know if you guys can tell on camera how wide Chuck's truck is.
But, I got grown man hands and this truck is wider than my hand span.
It is like a spider crawling up.
>> I'm not Oh, I'm going to hit that rock.
It's pretty gnarly.
What's the wheelbase on that thing?
>> 13 9.
It's a Gladiator chassis.
>> Okay.
>> Guys, please like and subscribe. Check out the link for my Amazon store. It'll be in the description.
Check out the link for HobbyKing and Turnigy batteries.
Check out the link for the RC Scale Rope Shop.
That link will be in the description.
And check out the link for Twisted Tree RC.
And I don't know if I mentioned the tire swap me and Chad did. That's why I'm on these 475 Crawlers.
I was being lazy.
>> You need a little bit more weight on the front end to help balance it.
Body out.
>> And then these tires are a little taller. It's kind of throwing me off.
>> Yeah.
Are they normal uh 475?
>> Mhm.
>> Mhm.
>> They're just Crawlers.
Well, not just Crawlers. They was all Crawlers.
>> [laughter] >> We know what you meant.
Woo!
>> Oh, 47 455.
Yeah, I like them. I'm going to order some.
Yeah, I like these cuz they are smaller.
And these guys at the RC scale rope shop pick you up some of that rigging recovery gear.
And then the guys over at Twisted Tree RC pick yourself up one of them scale antennas with the tennis ball option.
They got different >> And if anybody knows a Sorry, I interrupted you.
>> No, it's all Anybody knows a great place to get scale license plates in a timely fashion, let us know.
>> There's a guy that advertises on Facebook all the time. He's got some good but you know you have to order them. You get them made organic.
>> Yeah.
I ordered I ordered another set from one guy, and it's been a long time.
It's been over a month, haven't it?
>> It's been about a month.
>> It's Yeah, however long I've had this truck, and then a little bit longer than that. Uh-oh.
Oh.
It's sleeping.
I'm not buying these tires anymore.
>> [laughter] >> Nope. I will.
That was a funky little angle we was hitting it at.
>> Yeah.
I'm still learning.
>> Yeah, I don't think you're going to have any issues hitting it at that angle.
>> No, I think I'll be I'm wide enough now. not to worry about it.
>> Yep.
That's sweet.
It's all good, man.
You kind of disappeared behind the grass.
>> Yeah, the lower the front end.
>> What did you say, Charles? Charles?
>> I thought you said you were going to flip there.
>> Ah.
I thought you said we rolled through something bad.
>> 2 minutes.
Okay.
