The law of karma is the fundamental principle of cause and effect that governs all life, where our actions (karma) create mental impressions (samskaras) that shape our future experiences and perpetuate cycles of behavior. This law operates through three types of samskaras: inborn (present at birth), acquired (created through our own efforts), and imposed (imprinted by environment and company). To break free from these karmic cycles, one must practice karma yoga—selfless action without expectation of results, combined with meditation to develop metacognition and exhaust accumulated mental distortions. The key principles include renouncing the desire for action results, eliminating pride in performance, and recognizing the divine nature in all beings.

The Law Of Karma EXPLAINEDHinzugefügt:
Our life many times resembles a movement in the circle. We are moving moving doing something all the time but hardly there is any progress. And what is progress? The progress when we increase our internal abundance, the sense of satisfaction, the sense of bliss, the sense of happiness, joy, deeper understanding of reality. When the mind moves from darkness to clarity and is able to perceive the secrets of the universe and the external abundance also in this lecture today it will it is going to be a long lecture and I'm going to explain the law of karma. This idea these ideas are thousand years of age. They are very old but they're very beautifully. They describe very beautifully the purpose and meaning of our lives. Human beings we long for law and order. When there is no law uh our system, our psychology breaks.
Just in the second world war uh there was some experimentation on the captives of war on the prisoners of war. The Nazis used to uh randomly punish or randomly reward and that would that what would break the psychology of the person because we are seeking for a law for the order for the uh causuality for the cause and effect. So karma describes rationally and beautifully the cause and effect. So today we are going to dive very deep and we are going to go through all the fundamentals ideas which constitute this theory of karma. I will start with the story. Meanwhile, if you like the topic, if you like the video or any part of this video, you can indicate this fact by pressing the like button.
And let me start. One [snorts] time uh one friend of mine uh she was uh driving me to the airport, Frankfurt airport, and there was some [gasps] uh difficulties to find the parking lot.
uh it was a little bit confusing and the navigator was not helping us. So and then uh as we were driving I was talking to her we were discussing so many interesting thought uh you know ideas and you know there was a very interesting conversation and then she said dada wait keep quiet uh I need to focus.
Okay okay okay drive. Then she drives one circle then another circle then third circle then she say who planned this who built this kind of uh difficult planning it's very difficult to find the place so she becomes angry I say it's okay it's okay we will find so four or five so we are driving in circles and we are not progressing towards our destination as if there is up in our mind which we blindly follow and we cannot find the way how [snorts] I need to you know turn and go to the parking lot somehow it is there but I'm not able to see it this is a very common situation it is a common situation in our life we are circling but at some point You have to drive very carefully and you need to change maybe the navigation system which guides you because sometimes you know the navigation system it loops it doesn't show you properly and uh you can be angry at it but there is no use to be angry. So let us understand that map within our brain. What happens with us? How this map is formed? Let's first figure out the most important definitions.
Karma, vasana and samscara.
Karma means action.
Vasana means desire, deep desire.
Such desire that comes from your unconscious mind somehow it drives you but you don't consciously understand why and how it drives you. It goes from the causal portion of your mind.
So that is vasana. So vasana is first before doing anything what is the primordial stage of the action?
It is vasa the desire. I want to want I need to want something in order to do something.
So this desire drives your action and then action reinforces the the the pattern in which you are acting. For example, let's say you want to find and you you want to have love in your life, love, stable, uh attachment, recognition, things like that. So, and you're you want it very strong. So you decide let me control the other person from whom I want to get love. I will check his or her telephones. Uh I will you know control every portion.
Then eventually as the result of this behavior the other person gets fed up and leaves you.
Then your conclusion is what? I didn't control enough. [gasps] I should have controlled more. So that pattern of behavior gets reinforced.
So this is the chain uh vasana desire. So desire shapes the action. There is a concept which is called vasa nabhana which means a pot of desires like you can make a clay into any shape. It can be a pot a vase any kind of shape and then when you pour the water inside that water has no choice but accept that shape.
So desire is such a pot.
When you follow particular desire, it shapes your action and then your action forms karmachaya or the bundle of actions.
Okay. So this this clear. So desire then actions and what is the result of the action? The result of the action is called samscara.
Samscara means reaction to to the action which is now stored inside of the mind as a as a coiled as a as a press you know the spring in the in the watch you charge it.
So it has the potential reaction. It has the potential energy. That energy is seeking expression.
So that is samscara. I give you another example to understand better. To do action, we need to imbalance our mind.
Just now I'm sitting, I'm in balance.
So all of a sudden I cannot just stand up and go uh and pour the glass of water and drink. I cannot. I have to imbalance myself. I have to bring myself out of the state of peace.
Okay, this is quite clear. I think every time you do action outside, you take the energy from inside.
uh just like propulsion engine to move forward it has to to to expel the gases backward with a tremendous speed. That's how it gains the momentum for the movement. Or for example, there is a rifle and you shoot with that rifle. So the bullet will come out with a tremendous speed, small mass but tremendous speed. But at the same time what will happen the same time you will get [snorts] pushed back by that rifle. Okay. So samscara is that push back of reality. It pushes back into your mind and then in your mind it creates a distortion. So that distortion. So the mind imagine the mind also like an elastic entity which wants to be in the state of balance. It wants to be smooth but then you press that um surface of the mind and the mind gets distorted but will it will push back when there will be proper circumstances. it will like to restore its equilibrium. So that distortion of the mind is called samscara. Okay. So that is the understanding. So basic uh system you understood desire [snorts] action action create distortion samscara and that distortion create the desire again. So again it becomes vasana karma samscara again vasana karma samscara and it distorts also the very perception of the world. Uh to understand that you have to understand the mind. Every time you see something you see nothing but your own mind. You don't actually see me. Of course now you are watching a recording of this video. I'm talking with you as if you are here present but you are watching recording and not only that you are not actually watching recording you are watching your own mind reconstruction of that recording what happens from from your telephone or from your computer the the rays of life light the electromagnetic uh vibrations they struck your retina And then it produces the vibration in your nerves. And then finally those vibrations they are uh conveyed to the brain. And from those electromagnetic fluctuations from those electromagnetic vibrations your brain reconstructs a reality.
It reconstruct. So anytime when I see uh a pine tree or a birch tree or a palm tree, what do I see? I see a reconstruction of that in my own mind.
Do you understand that you always see your mind?
You can see as as a result of perception. You can see as a result of imagination.
For example, let's for a moment Imagine a giraffe, a beautiful giraffe, very tall and with a beautiful, you know, specks on the fur.
I can see very clearly.
So my brain construct an image of giraffe.
I'm explaining this now as the preparing the ground for the explanation of all the karmmas how they work.
Uh so briefly let us understand what is mind. Human being is the composition of body, mind and consciousness or you can say spirit. So consciousness is the knowledge of existence.
The Absolute subjectivity. I know that I exist. That is the consciousness.
Knowledge of experience.
Mind is the process of experiencing things.
And the body is the vehicle to express the mind and to interact with the world.
So let's talk about the mind. Mind itself has three parts.
One part is called mahatwa.
I am I exist. To do action you need to first exist.
Second part is the doership portion of the mind. I do or it is called ego.
I see, I touch, I smell. This all the words of the ego.
And the third one is the result of the action of my ego. I see a tree. So I see what is the result of that seeing. The result of that seeing is the reconstruction within my mind. The image of the tree or I imagine a giraffe. So what is the result of that imaginary action?
a giraffe which is made of my own mind. Okay. So this is very very very important point to understand.
So what shape we what shape our mind acquires.
We receive many uh impressions from the outside world.
If I see a birch tree, it takes shape in my mind. But every time it takes shape in my mind, it leaves some kind of trace, some memory. The memory is the proof of that.
If you have seen a person 10 years ago, many times it have I I'm really like very surprised. Sometimes I see a person and I will look and look. I don't remember at first and then slowly slowly slowly just kind of out of fog this person reappears in my memory and I search deeper in my mind and I come up with a name. It's like wow how do I remember even it was 10 years ago and then thousands and thousands of people have passed since then how do I remember I don't understand because whatever you have perceived has been imprinted in your mind now you are perceiving me I'm going to get imprinted in your mind and I'm going to sit in your mind and I'm going to exert my influence but whatever you see that is also one kind of samscara okay now I'm ready to explain uh different types of samscaras different types of distortions of the mind so by now you understand that whatever I perceive is colored by the instrument of perception and that instrument ment of perception is my own mind. Just like the glasses, the pink glasses, the world has become pink and you don't see the glasses. Okay? You don't see the glasses. You see the result of that vision. You don't know what's we don't know what is this reality actually. How the dolphin sees the reality. How does the giraffe sees the reality?
a bat, a fly.
I think we all exist in different worlds. There will be reconstruction in the mind and it will depend so much on the very quality of the mind which is reassembling the reality within itself.
So you understand that according to the to the form and shape in which the mind has become distorted the perception of reality will be different from case to case from person to person will be totally different.
So let's understand what are those distortions and how they affect the mind.
There are three kind of distortions.
Number one, inborn distortions.
If you are born an elephant, that's the hardest distortions and they they just like know very difficult to overcome them. They are just you know a solid uh mold in which you have been shaped. If you're born an elephant, that's your inborn samscara.
If you're born a human, that's your inborn samscara.
Not only and then according to that uh your life will be and then also in born samscara like you're born in a rich family that is an imborn samscara.
You're born in a poor family. You are born in the cultured family, educated family or you know immoral family. That's all inborn sansscara or you come uh with certain baggage with certain talents that is also inborn samscara. In uh yoga we believe in reincarnation that the consciousness doesn't start with the birth of this body that it exists before and it doesn't end with the death of this body that it exists.
Of course it is a subjective experience.
I cannot prove anything but I have experienced that in meditation that I am not this body. I'm not this mind. I've never been this body. I've never been this mind. I'm consciousness eternal.
I will just like I put on the cloth and take it off.
Same way I have put on this body and I will take it off when this body will become old. It is subjective experience.
I cannot prove it scientifically. Yet it is an experience.
Or when I was young, I had this very vivid memory uh and this much like I was in the body of three years old boy and I remember myself different. I remember myself as an old man and that old man somehow uh commands the power and respect and whatever as that old man I remember myself to be. Whatever I say, everybody just do it. Everybody fulfills my instructions.
But now I'm small.
I'm a small baby. Nobody listens to me.
[laughter] So I had this disagreement.
What what is going on? Why? Why I'm like this? I was like that. I like better that one.
So interesting experience like that. So we believe that our consciousness travels from life to life and the body is just like a cloth. You put it on, you wear it, it becomes old, you discard it, you again you put another clo. So later on I will speak a little bit about reincarnation and also the idea of liberation.
Uh so speaking about samscaras what is important the inborn samscaras like for example you can be genius from birth or you can slowly slowly slowly train train train play piano play guitar and then train train train. Due to the intense training you can become very you know virtuoso uh performer and then next life you become genius.
So the technician of this life becomes a genius of the next life that is inborn samscara. Similarly there are positive there are negative inborn samscaras.
Some people are born in uh poverty, some people born in richness. Is not to justify the social injustice. There is a one misunderstanding of this theory of the karma to to justify okay these people are poor because this karma is such and okay this uh yes there there is cause and effect but it doesn't mean the society has to be unjust and then later on I also speak about the karmas uh the right action so in born samscara uh second is a Acquired samscara acquired you made an effort yourself and then you moved towards good or towards bad through your own effort and through your own choice.
Of course there are already tendencies in you which motivate you which create the desire but nevertheless the desire was from the past but your action is now.
So you using this desire of the past you are doing now and you are creating the distortions for the future which will be the fate of you in tomorrow.
So taking the momentum of yesterday you leave now and you are creating tomorrow.
Very simple logic. So acquired samscara.
So I believe that this samscaras also extremely powerful. Let's say you have uh 1,000 euro in your wallet or $1,000 uh that is given.
So amount of pleasure and pain uh which you need to undergo is given. It's already fixed. Cannot do anything about it. But the way how you're going to experience it that depends on you and what you are going to do with that $1,000. You can invest it, you can waste it, you can go to casino, you you can do the charity, you you can do so many things with with that $1,000.
So this acquired samscara is where I'm going to talk little just little bit later I'm going to talk uh about the actions.
So in this acquired samscara there is a moment of free will. this free will many times I thought does it really exist?
There are many ideas there is like deterministic idea which is extremely like a very uh no far materialistic way of seeing the universe like a machine.
So in that there is a total determinism.
Once upon a time there was a bing bang and now there was you know all these particles there whirling and moving and interacting in a certain way but the original impact was those 14 billion years ago uh and now it's just whatever happens is just a consequence.
So the world is just like a huge machine.
It is also close to the theory of karma but not complete. The theory of karma has a space for the free will.
So inborn samscara.
Second acquired samscara.
And the third this one is very important. This is a very big thing. Now if you understand this you can really like for free without any effort you can develop yourself or you can degenerate yourself also. It is so to understand is almost like a life hack like a trick.
Imposamsara is something which is getting uh imprinted in your mind without you actually doing anything. So what is impossible?
Language is an imposs mother tongue.
The tongue in which the mother spoke with you.
So it's just from the very tender age it's just getting reflected in your mind and it creates the the matrix for feelings emotions the way of thinking when I speak let's say when I speak in Russian I'm feeling certain way thinking certain way when I speak in English I feel and think differently and when I try to speak in German, I also feel different.
So that's one big imposed samscara.
It creates the collective psyche of that group of people, the community of people, the nation. It's it's a big composscar. Or for example, if you are born in mountains, you are born in uh by the sea or you born in the in the in the in the desert, that also creates an imposed samscara.
You grew up in the city, you grew up in the village, it also creates the sansscara. But most importantly, what is the fastest way for you to move spiritually without any effort? Gets more imprints, positive imprints. If you are in a company of uh saintly people, the people full of joy, full of happiness, full of dynamism, the sense of mission in life, um ambitious people, uh honest people, just by seeing them, you get them imprinted in your mind again and again. You see to just to see that person you reconstruct that person in your mind remember you're not seeing the person you're seeing your own reconstruction of course sometimes even due to you know bad karma uh a very good person you can see as a very bad person it happens if there are lots of bad karma you will see a saint but uh when you look at him, you will feel like very unpleasant feelings because of the prism. The the reconstruction when you the person is very good, very saintly but when you reconstruct him in your mind [laughter] that person acquires some bad qualities that also it is possible. It is said that the easiest way it is said It means uh good company leads to liberation and bad company leads to a greater bondage.
So understanding this try to be in a good company [gasps] and then later I will I will explain also about um like for example if you're in a bad company what what you can do because you are getting those imprints 24 times per second or faster you know our mind is also working just like a movie you know the frames frame rate So you're getting those imprints again and again in your mind. The mind acquires that shape again and again and with that shape the the very quality of the mind changes. Now we come to the idea of uh two types of action. One is called samscara mulaka. Another one is called rata mulaka. Samscara mulaka means moola means root and samscara is distortion in the mind. So root of the action it grows out of distortion in your mind samscara.
So how do we experience that kind of action?
I cannot control myself.
I'm just feel that kind of trust. I'm I'm being propelled to a certain activity.
I understand it is wrong maybe or maybe I don't not understand but I cannot do anything. I just have to do it. That's uh called uh samscara mulaka action can do cannot do anything with myself.
So in those actions an indirect will is expressed. What is this indirect will?
Your mind there is a conscious expression of the mind is what you are thinking.
On the conscious level you think I want this. I want pleasure. I want to avoid pain. That is the conscious level. But on the subtler and deeper layer of the mind, mind doesn't care pleasure or pain. Mind seeks balance.
Just like you know there is a distortion and that distortion wants to set itself right.
So how to set itself right? If original action which has created the distortion was painful action. I have caused the pain to the universal mind of the universe. I have caused pain to a human an animal or somebody or or a group of people. So you I have created the quantum of pain.
So now to correct that distortion in the mind you need to experience the same amount of pain and indirect will is seeking the circumstances in which I will be able to experience that to bring my mind to balance. So karma uh is not about punishment.
It's not about punishment. Uh sometimes when we listen about these ideas we become sad because when we think oh my god how many actions have I done? [laughter] How many uh quant of uh pain I have created?
how many years I need to process them again to reexperience to to relieve that uh that you know pain or pleasure.
Uh but why we speak about karma like gravitation there is no no punishment in gravitation.
If you drop a glass on the floor it will get broken.
Is it punishment?
Is glass getting punished for something?
No. It's just the law of gravity. You understand that gravity works this way.
Uh be careful.
Don't drop the the crystal glass on on the floor. It will be broken.
So same way karma we have to understand how it works and we have to act in a certain way not to create problems for ourselves. So what I was talking about some for example out of 10 shops let's say you you come or you come to the market you want to buy something out of 10 kiosks you will choose exactly the one in which the person will be for some reason unhappy and that person is going to abuse you, you know, with the words.
[clears throat] Why I spend so much time on you?
Possible. Possible.
So why you have come? Why out of 10 you have chosen that one? Why?
Because of longing of the mind for freedom from a distortion. When you have experienced that pain, the distortion is over. Is it really over?
Not really. Because when somebody starts abusing you, you will boil with anger and you will not think much. You will start abusing in return. So this is called purely reactive action.
You have not thought, you didn't plan, you didn't strategize, you reacted.
react. There was a pure reaction. There was no response.
So in this way you could uh you have certainly burnt you you have certainly exhausted one samscara but you have certainly created another samscara.
Sometimes even stronger sometimes your response is bigger.
So uh we have to understand this mechanism. And then what is pratia?
When you think when you stop means the root of the action is your will is your own uh mind is your own decision. You have thought about it. You have decided sometimes very difficult to achieve this. It's just like a train is moving always on the same track and you know it has huge inertia, huge momentum. It's like you know moving with a great speed and to to bring it into another track it takes a lot of uh awareness, lots of self-control because [snorts] there is uh this emotional drive.
You saved me something. So my normal reaction I will stop speaking with you.
I will not speak with you for one month.
That's how I respond or react to the situation.
But I could ask you uh why did you say like this? Is it because you want to express disrespect to me or did you mean something else? And no no I not at all.
I didn't disrespect you. Actually I said like this because of Oh yeah. Well you read like that. Oh okay then.
So that is the you chose because your compulsion was to shut up and not to speak with this person ever again.
But then you decided okay let me observe what is going on with me and let me today we try something new. We have been on this track already five times, six time or 20 times. How many times I've been in this situation so many times already. So this time let me try something different. I can turn right, I can turn left, but let me try something different.
So in this way you break the pattern.
You break the the karmic circle. You come out of the circle and something new is going to happen. So action is very very important. Uh so training the ability of that action how you can train that ability.
Uh number one is meditation.
Meditation why why is it so important?
Why always I speak meditation meditation meditation must start doing meditation?
Uh because three things in meditation you develop.
Number one, you develop uh metacognition.
Metacognition is an ability to think about thinking, to be able to see your feelings, your thoughts, not as an actor in the drama, but as an observer.
That is the meta cognition. So in meditation always you have to you know because you are doing the technique of meditation. So you always have to be an observer observer to direct your thoughts. If you get mingled with your thoughts, you cannot control the thoughts anymore. So in meditation, you must develop this ability. And once you developed it in meditation, you can develop it everywhere. You can use it everywhere.
Second thing, you know, one example, you have domesticated a wolf and the wolf is very nice with you. It plays with you. But then you are not giving the food one, two, three, four days with the to the wolf. And then the wolf is just like, you know, like there are movies about the vampires.
They want they want to be nice. They want to control themselves. But then it comes, you know, the full moon comes about and then he's just like and then finally he bites. He cannot control.
So once there is this desire inside in in the world many times I see that you know for some corruption somebody got an executed in this country in that country got so many years of jail and sometimes I travel in Asia and then I see in the airport for the drug trafficking there is a death punishment penalty penalty by death I think W this is very severe. This very powerful. Still some people get still some people do like there is this desire like for example there is a strong greed strong desire for something.
You will get jail because of this desire. No the person doesn't control it. Just go and does it anyway.
So what to do? You need to satisfy that desire but in a more subtle way. You need to fill that pot of desire with cosmic happiness.
The action will be meditative action.
You're not feeling that desire with the criminal actions.
You're feeling that with cosmic bliss.
Once you are very deeply satisfied in meditation and happy, your action changes. The very nature of your action changes naturally. The consequences of your actions also changes. This is the uh second thing in meditation. And the third thing in meditation again we are coming back to uh to the structure of the mind. Uh you can imagine [snorts] the samscaras where they stored they stored in chitta or objective mind that portion of mind uh we call it mind stuff from which you have constructed the giraffe that is the like a substance of the mind. It's just like a screen of the mind or like a clay from which you you built all those things.
So in that plate of the mind the action is getting imprinted.
There are five layers of that plate.
Conscious uh intellectual, creative, deep causal, special knowledge and blissful.
So the the samscaras they they bypass two uh upper layers and go into the deeper area of the mind which is called causal mind. Why it is called causal mind?
Because it is causal.
It is the cause of your behavior.
You don't understand why exactly you act in a certain way.
Let's say in life you marry one particular person then you divorce and you think never ever again.
Then you search for another person but that another person start to act exactly like that.
So it means you have been doing that unconsciously choosing all always the same thing and you are not able to really understand your samscara. You don't understand your what you are just like a puppet and the karma is playing with you. Okay.
So in meditation so something which is on the surface you understand okay I have a certain belief system certain ideas certain desires and that what is in the surface I surface I understand what is deeper under the surface I don't understand so in meditation what is deeper cannot come out to the surface until the surface sur is cluttered.
So to to get it come out of the deeper layers of the mind to the surface of the mind you need to clean the surface and what this is what exactly you do in meditation. You sit and you achieve the sization.
You stop seeing the external world.
You're stop you are stopping registering your own body and you come into the state of thoughtlessness.
So there is a stop of all the flows there is a stop. So once you clear the surface of your mind then from deeper layers of the mind this just like a bubbles the samscaras come on the top and start disturbing your mind again.
So you many times people you know they start meditating and they getting surprised they say I think before meditating I was more calm but now there is more chaos in myself and in my life it's similar like you start cleaning your house and then uh after 15 minutes of cleaning you you see that the house become much more messy than before the cleaning and then you Keep going, continue, continue, continue, continue. Then finally everything becomes deeply clean. So in in this meditation there is this deep cleaning of your mind. You get your samscaras matured.
Those which have been totally unknown, of which you have been totally unaware, they start to surface and you become consciously aware of them. So that's why I need to do meditation to increase uh the rate samscara mula mulaka still there are so many samscara mulaka actions in our in my life the actions which are rooted in the distortion I cannot control I I don't otherwise everyone would be just so harmonious and so efficient and so rational but uh basically nobody can control the expressions of the samscaras This is the law of nature and cannot control the fate also because uh one thing I have the samscaras I must go through the pain and pleasure. Uh but also I create new ones. So freedom is here. Now I decide what should I do with my future. How should I act now? What uh seeds of action I will sow in the land of my mind?
what will be my future? So this is very important. Uh when I spoke about meditation uh for me one of the big frustration was that I started to get myself acquainted with meditation at the age of 12 and I used to get very much frustrated because I read in the books that oh there are such and such techniques for meditation but you should not do it unless you are you have a blessing of the guru. I was like wow where I'm going to get the guru I don't know. [clears throat] So I didn't really I understood that this is a very subtle science and I need to learn from a proper teacher. So now I offer you the a condensed version of my 30 years experience in the area of meditation.
[music] It is completely free. I'm not charging any money. If you want to donate something that's okay. That's your uh choice and I'm very thankful.
Thank you very much for that. But um it's open it is really free you know freedom.
So uh you can go through that course the basic course of meditation and you can learn I tried to really systematize because many things I learned the technique of meditation from a very good achara very good teacher uh and I practiced that technique um but in details nobody has explained me.
So slowly slowly I have through the studying of the philosophy through the studying of the works of my guru uh and through the practice I have unpacked many many nuances many many uh details and very and I have delivered very clear understanding of the science of meditation. So if you go through that course you can actually on the basis of that course you can master any technique of meditation simple or complex. So I encourage you uh start meditating [music] even now even today.
You will see the link necessary link in the description of this video. Okay. Um, another thing is the state of mind.
Um, yoga philosophy talks a lot about gonas. Gona means a rope. The rope that binds consciousness to a particular shape.
So there are three ropes like that. uh satwaguna rajaguna and tamaguna like one action let's say charity we can have three intentions three stand states of mind uh in the Buddhist idea of uh karma they also speak about chana the intention intention uh it is not matter so much what kind of action you do but it matters what is your intention what is your state of mind in which you are performing this action so uh in satwa or let's say tamaguna uh tamaguna I will do charity to uh avoid taxes that's tamaguna the ignorant state of the mind uh in rajaguna I will do charity uh in order to be published in the social networks or somewhere to be glorified or in satwa I want to do uh charity in order to help somebody genuinely out of love.
So if you understand these goonas the the the tama is the energy of darkness. It makes person lazy.
The person wants to steal. What means still? Still means take more, give less.
This tendency in the mind. Work less, get more. That is the the tamaguna state. It is very highly dependent state of the mind. It's not the creative state of the mind. The person only works because he has to work. There is no inner really desire to work. That is the tama rajaguna. When I want to achieve something, when I want to be glorified, when I want to, you know, fulfill some, you know, great desire I have, that's the rajauna. And satwaguna is a peaceful state where you still very active, but internally you are peaceful. You do for the benefit of others.
And if you achieve something, you will not be proud. You will say, "Oh, this is my team. I have a great team. [laughter] They are so great." And uh because of them, we have achieved or uh you will say no actually everything is grace of God. I don't know how it happened. I don't know. I didn't do anything. What did I do? [laughter] Everything is really is a miracle what has happened.
You will not feel proud if you're in in satwa and if you are not if you have not achieved you will not feel sad also let's go keep working we will continue working and we will achieve.
So these are the goonas. So it is more important.
There are different kinds of actions but it is very the samscar really will depend uh on the modality of the mind.
What is the state of the mind in which you perform the action.
So here we come to idea of karma yoga. Karma yoga there is a technology fantastic technology and it works.
I tried it on myself. It does work. It is not so easy to master but you can start mastering and you can you can see the results of this technology. That technology is called karma yoga. You know in our ancient past in the Vic period uh the people thought that human beings are created together with yagyas.
What are the yagyas?
Yagya means sacrifice.
And our duty is to constantly perform sacrifices.
When I say sacrifice, it you know looks like some lump is going to is is going to get slaughtered. No, that that's uh one kind of case of sacrifices in certain religions. But in this uh sense on the spiritual sense, there are many types of sacrifice that you can do.
Um material sacrifice like you sacrifice um food uh money u any kind of material objects for the benefit of humanity.
You can sacrifice discipline.
Discipline uh people suffer without discipline.
Uh it is an illusion to think that if I have all the money in the world I can be in disciplined do what I like and be happy. You are not going to be happy.
You are you are going to suffer the what the happiness is uh we achieve through discipline. So how can I give you a gift of discipline?
Only if I discipline myself, I can discipline you. So this sacrifice of discipline, giving discipline, giving an example of a disciplined life. I have uh lived my 30 life contemplating this idea of karma.
meditating uh trying to live spiritual life and I have acquired certain understanding about this. So now I am sharing and I am sacrificing that knowledge. The sacrifice of knowledge it considered to be one of the most um precious and longlasting sacrifice once you give knowledge to a person that knowledge will last forever and then sacrifice of your work. So there are yagyas. So okay I will [clears throat] more more or less I have told but I want to a little bit systematize more what are the yagyas.
Um there areyhatma spiritual sacrifice. Then there is pitriagya sacrifice to the ancestors and to the sages.
There is pa sacrifice to the less developed creatures to the nature like dogs, cats, giraffes, uh trees, microbes.
So there is environment. We are part of that environment.
The environment feeds us. We need to feed the environment. We need to environment cares for us. We need to care for the environment. We should not be this is the idea that we should not be a mindless consumers of the gifts of nature. It says in Bhagavad Gita it says that all the desired good things uh the gods will bestow on you uh and that will be supported by the sacrifice in God. So basically if you sacrifice, if you give, you give, you always will get back. You always get back. Uh the uh the in the ancient world view human being is the part of the entire cosmic ecosystem and the duty of the human being is to do the sacrifices and the duty of the gods is to bestow all the necessary good things on the human being.
So I take it more metaphorically but I feel and it says in the next verse it says uh the one is really a thief who doesn't give them back to the gods consuming their gifts but without giving anything back. So this idea also uh it has the in this yagyas it is reflected. Soya the environment the nature feeds us everything for us. What do we do for the nature?
Are we just consuming it or we also uh there is a mutuality there is a mutual nourishment.
Soya spiritual sacrifice. What do you sacrifice? Your sadena your endeavor. Spiritual endeavor.
And why this word sacrifice? Sacrifice means you give without expecting anything in return. Now I will explain after this explaining yagas. I will explain the karma yoga. How it is built the principles of karma yoga. So uh one of the most important principle is selflessness.
So in meditation many people can sit in meditation thinking oh I will become peaceful I will become powerful I will develop some supernatural power that is not yagya that is not sacrifice you're doing meditation but you're not doing yagya so atma it means you are doing meditation to please the whole created world all the entities in this world you are you are doing for the happiness of all in this universe and you are doing for the happiness of the supreme consciousness that is yagya not for yourself.
It looks simple but it represents a great revolution in the spiritual approach.
Once you start meditation like that you will never ever be disappointed because from you know like you can do meditation sometimes you know people tell me dada I do such a great effort in my meditation already I'm doing meditation for three years I don't feel any bliss so that kind of dis because you are not doing yagya yagya means you are doing a sacrifice You are not expecting anything in return.
Once you start expecting anything in return, you break your spiritual practice.
Then means is a special type of ritual that we do.
After the shower while the there are drops of water on the body you perform standing facing the light you perform this kind of mantra and mudra.
Uh so what is the significance you say?
I salute Petrice, the the fathers, the forefathers, my fathers and mothers, my uh ancestors. I salute my ancestors.
I salute the sages. So ancestors have given you the body, the gins.
Now they have endured billions of years.
They have come you know your genes they have been generations after generations they they've been uh they endured and uh and they were passed on to you by your parents and grandparents and so on. So what is the purpose of that line of that lineage?
What is the purpose?
Unconscious purpose which moved all that evolutions your lineage aspires.
It tries to jump back into the god consciousness into the state of supreme consciousness.
So you achieving enlightenment fulfill the aspiration of all the billions of years of evolutions.
You can imagine what kind of chance you have.
All the struggles o of all the pains, humiliations uh pleasures and pains of all your ancestors everything of that get vindicated and get fulfilled by you achieving the spiritual perfection.
So that is called priya.
So you understand by giving namaskar By giving your salutations to your ancestors, you say, "Mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, grandmother, grandmother, I promise you, I will achieve that highest goal of humanity. I will achieve the enlightenment. I will continue your struggle for perfection."
Okay. And second thing, the I salute the sages. Who are the sages?
Those uh extraordinary human beings who have created culture, art, music, technology and science. Those are the riches. Those are the extraordinary geniuses as human beings. So what did they try to do? They tried to to uplift the the the human mind, the mind of humanity, the consciousness of humanity as such. So dear Einstein, dear Newton, dear Maharishi Capil, dear Maharishi Canada, [laughter] dear Krishna, dear Shiva, I am going to continue the struggle for the uprovement of humanity. So I am giving my salutations to you all the great teachers, all the great geniuses of humanity who work tirelessly, tirelessly for the welfare of the universe. I am going to continue your work and your struggle. So this is the by you know saluting your ancestors and the wishes you start continuing that lineage. That's second type of sacrifice. Then goes putaga already I explained sacrifice to the universe to the to the world to the nature take care of the nature and then goes the fourth dimension of jagya and fourth dimension in that fourth dimension there are also four andraitt is service through your physical ability like cooking the food, like uh you know dealing the land, like uh caring for the sick person. That is alludial kind of ability, governing kind of ability. Serve the world through the governance governance of yourself and governance of others. Third, serve the world through the knowledge through the deep wisdom that you have acquired and you can share now. And the fourth is serve through your financial and material capabilities. So once you exercise all of those, they will grow.
Once you do the ex sacrifices in this stratus those muscles will grow. If you do the sacrifices in financial that muscle will grow. You will acquire more finances. It works like that. I have uh checked on myself. It does you know the more you sacrifice the more it comes uh you do the the intellectual sacrifice.
The more you sacrifice it comes back to you. So this is like a circle.
So let us now talk about um karma yoga almost we are finished with the lecture.
So karma yoga um what karma in this context a particular kind of action perfect type of action which lead to the samadei the action which will slowly slowly bring you to the state of union with the divine consciousness. In yoga philosophy we are not different.
We are all fluctuations and extremely complex patterns in the field of consciousness.
Just like you know some uh physicists they believe that the atoms or the electrons they're not really particles but they are quantum fluctuations in the fields like light and the particle of light is just a fluctuation of the electromagnetic field.
So in yoga we believe that everything is a extremely complex patterns of consciousness all inter interconnected with each other.
So the wave existing in the ocean how does it become one with the ocean when it's all differentiations from the ocean when they removed and those differentiations there are samscaras.
So once all the samscaras being exhausted fulfilled once you release all the energy which is stored in the samscaras and you acquire the stillness of your own field of consciousness your individual consciousness become one with the universal consciousness that is called liberation or moka.
So how to act? Already I explained that you need to meditate to start process of maturation of the samscaras to change the very quality of the state of your mind to change the very nature of your action and what was that uh and uh to develop metacognition. That is one of the most important thing that you need to do is your meditation to come out of that loop.
You are moving you know around the Frankfurt airport and you cannot find the parking lot. Now you have to become very attentive to find your outlet where you are going to turn.
Okay that's you will develop in your meditation.
Uh and then action the yagyas you do the selfless action.
So the science karma is such an action which will lead you to moka will will lead you to the liberation your individual conscience will become universal consciousness immortality.
So four things number one karma renouncing the result of the action the desire for the result of the action. If I do something good but I expect something uh already I am in bondage.
If I if I have done something good for you but you didn't say thank you to me.
You didn't even say even thank you and I feel angry now with you. Why you didn't say thank you to me? There was an expectation. So when there is an action and in that action there is an expectation surely your mind is going to be distorted many time as the uh you know as the leader uh I have to thank my team or thank you for this thank you for that or this person is doing this this person is doing marketing this person is doing social networks this person is doing us leading us no no and then there are big team like 30 40 people and if one person I forget that person feel upset not supposed to be upset because we on the spiritual path we need to practice karma yoga but still people feel upset why because there is an expectation so now I give you one advice how to overcome that expectation you have to think that not person has to be grateful to me but I have to be grateful to the person whom I help. Why?
Because through helping the person I liberate my mind.
So God was gracious to me by sending that suffering person to me. So I could exercise my service, my yagyas and be liberated and be you know by yagyas you liberate yourself internally and you acquire prosperity externally.
So who is getting benefit? you are getting benefit.
So just small reprogramming in the mind think I am thankful to the person whom I am serving. I am thankful to the to the god who has given me the opportunity to serve. This is the only escape from that egoistic expectation which we inevitably form. It doesn't come from the first time but once you uh tune yourself like this once you start thinking like that it slowly slowly it will become natural.
Second thing is it means uh give up the pride of the performer.
I am doing such great actions.
I need a Nobel prize for that.
So that is the uh I am proud of myself very very much proud of myself. So in this way you create the samscara.
So instead you have to think inside me in a deeper u depth of my consciousness there is supreme there is divine. So in me there is bliss. In me there is silence.
In me there is wisdom which is divine. So now let me meditate for a moment and connect and become one with that and let my body let my mind become the vehicle of God. So I am simply an instrument of God.
So here action will take the samscara out of your system.
But when you act in the state of selfishness while eliminating one samscara, you're simultaneously creating another samscara.
So we need to avoid that one. So and you remember who was doing the action? The ego was doing the action. So ego is doing the action and also enjoying the results or suffering the results of the action. So instead try meditating that you I am just being driven by the cosmic will to the performance of those actions. I'm not averse to action and I am not uh hungry for the results of actions. I'm not hungry for the recognition because recognition is also another kind of result of action. So karma I do not desire the result of action. I do not desire the recognition for my actions.
Then comes brahmachara.
Uh still there are many people around me. Let's say some people are saintly and they will send they will imprint very good impressions in my mind and just like I have several people like that just by being with them you become very high you become very happy you become very light your meditation practice improves uh so it's just they're just being imprinted in your mind that's all you need satsanga Such person who involuntarily uplifts you. He doesn't make an effort for that. You don't make any effort. But the result is that you become high being near such a person.
And there are asadus.
Asadu is the same person but who makes you very low just by being near you.
Then what to do?
What to do? If it is your colleagues and you you don't want to lose the job, you still need to deal every day with a toxic person. What to do? You need to meditate. When you meet with that person, when you talk with that person, you need to meditate that now God has come to me in the form of this person there. He's hiding. I know he's hiding. He's pretending to be a toxic person. But deep inside of that person, there is beauty. There is bliss.
There is wisdom. There is goodness. Let me try to detect it. Let me try to recognize it. So you because you are you are tuning yourself to where you're not tuning to yourself to the toxicity. So toxicity is not getting reflected in your mind. But you are tuning to the divinity in the person. So divinity is getting reflected in your mind. And also one time I remember I had a talk with one very angry man and he's angry without everybody you know immigrants and ah they have come here there no and you know is in he speaks in a very toxic way. So um I look at him I try to protect you know the dignity of the human beings he doesn't listen he becomes more angry. So then I I change my strategy. I just look at him with respect. I look at him just like God has come to me. I look at him with respect. I listen to him. I love him.
Respect him. And then he spoke like 10 minutes still he had you know energy to go on and then after 10 minutes he's just like you know he lost his structure of anger and then he said I talk a lot you are the teacher of meditation right? Yes I want to learn meditation. I say yeah yeah let's let's learn let's go meditate together. So it's extremely powerful technique when somebody is being toxic, somebody is being very you know angry or very mean.
Instead of yourself getting angry, instead of you know reacting to those impressions in the mind, you fight that you uh imagine that you know this is the most holy most beautiful light is here and it now I am being blessed by that light.
So that will protect you from acquiring impulse samscara and there is another trap the last one here I feel I am an instrument of the divine whatever happens it is by the grace of the divine I don't have I don't take any credit for myself it is all by the grace of god But you know the god have chosen to use me as an instrument right not you me.
So it's still the ego still finds a way how to reassert itself.
Yes I'm an instrument of God but still God has chosen me to be an instrument.
So what is the way out? You have to meditate that your own body and your own mind is also an expression of the divine consciousness.
Your body is also divine. Your mind is also divine.
So this science of action is also called muidya or honey knowledge. Mu means honey. Sweet knowledge. Sweet knowledge.
That knowledge transforms every action into the nectar.
Anything you do, you do, you work with people is blissful.
You cook is blissful. And you know when they cook, people cook in this kind of mindset, the food is so nice. And when you eat this food, I am it's very serious here. If let's say you are cooking in the state of completely no desire for any gratitude nothing just desire to give happiness to God give up the pride of the performance no need any recognition then brahmacharia the Food itself is divine expression.
This tomatoes they are consciousness in the form of tomatoes and myself full of divinity also.
My mind, my body, everything is filled with the divine vibrations. So if you cook in that state, there will be beautiful food.
If you do art in that state, your art will be exceptional.
If you write something in that state, your writings will be full of bliss, special. And that bliss will vibrate.
Whoever will read it will feel something is touching in the heart. Something in something is moving in my heart. Why I want to cry by reading this? So that is the that's what create the immortal uh impact on the world.
So and then finally liberation uh we need to exhaust all the distortion in our mind and we need not to create new distortion in our mind. This is the science. But still trillions and trillions of some scars I have created in this life and in the past lives. God knows it's just like I need to move the Himalayan mountains with the shovel.
There are so many distortions. It is interesting when you start meditating.
First you feel your mind is calm. But once you acquire this metacognition, this ability to see your mind, to observe what is going on in your mind, you find out that your mind is just like a field, the vibrating, ever vibrating field. You know, something is always moving there. Just sounds, images, it's all flickering.
And to calm it down, to pacify, it's almost impossible kind of job. That's now you are seeing the field of your samscaras.
So how what to do?
By the grace of God, you get liberated from that. Once you step on the path of liberation, it is intolerable for God to bear your suffering of separation.
So in Indian traditions they call God har. Har means the one who steals what he steals. He steals your samscaras. He removes the distortions of your mind because there is a infinite cosmic mind.
So he redistributes those distortions.
He can use it in here and there and usefully it's just like a bricks from which he can construct different results use in different ways. So he steals your samscaras, remove the samscaras, remove the burdens.
So how to be eligible for that type of grace of the supreme?
When you become a disciple, disciple means you meditate and you make a goal of life to achieve the divine to move. Why should I be separate? You and me so close but still separate. Why should be separation there?
So you are moving on the path of service.
You are trying to uplift uh the consciousness of humanity in whatever way by serving physically, serving by discipline, serving by knowledge and you're doing meditation.
You surrender yourself to the supreme.
Give up your egoistic desire to be a separate.
Surrender to the supreme to the will of the supreme which is always inside of you. Guiding you from inside. Guiding you in the form of the teachings like morality, yama and yama. We could talk more but already it's very long lecture.
and then you eligible for the receiving the grace of the divine. I want to finish this uh lecture with the from Gita. It says leaving aside all the secondary dharmas only to me come for the salvation.
Don't worry I will liberate from all you from all sins. I will remove all the sins from you. Don't have any worries about that. So this is the final surrendering to the god surrendering to that supreme consciousness which is inside of you outside of you and then becoming losing that individual I want I don't want coinciding your desire with the supreme which is actually deeper deeper part of you when you do something which supreme desires you always experience joy.
So conclusions of this lecture, karma is the law of causality. It's just like physics, like a gravitation law. So when we learn about electricity, we are able to produce radio uh electronics, mobile phone, cameras and etc. Once we know the law, we can use the law to for different advantages. Once you don't understand the law, you end up, you know, like if you don't understand how the electricity works and you put your fingers into the electric socket, you are going to get electric shock.
And is it electricity to blame? No. You you have to be careful. So we have to understand that karma is not a punishment. It is the law of nature. In in which law? It is the law of causality. Without that law we will become crazy. You know everything works because there is a cause and effect. We can predict what is going to happen. I understand I will switch on and the light will come.
If there would be no such understanding then how to leave? So casuality it explains how the life works and what should we do.
Then we spoke about the vasana bhana the uh the pot of desires. Your desire determines content of your life.
In that desire you pour the actions and the actions will be such which will reinforce that desire. So there is a loop.
We always repeat our life and we can go like this. One life, two life, three life. It's just like come on already fourth life I am on this road. When when I'm going to finally arrive okay then we spoke about karma samscara karma samscar coming out of samscara. You don't have any control direct action. You decide you don't react. you respond. Then we spoke about the goonas, the the energy state, tamaguna, the ignorance, the darkness, laziness.
When you steal, you don't you want you don't want to give, you're not creating anything.
You are just consuming, consuming, consuming.
Rajuna when you uh desperately trying to achieve something and if you are not achieving you feel pain and anger and sata when you are complete when you are in a perfect state of happiness and you are acting out of um welfare for others.
Then we spoke about the yagyas atyatma the spiritual sacrifice do everything selflessly without wanting anything in return because wanting creates bondage like for example you helped a person and he didn't uh say you thank you and now 10 years ago uh 10 years later you still remember oh he didn't even express gratitude to me. So why you need to be in that bondage? Why you need to have that kind of you know until he say thank you then finally he said oh thank you and you're like finally now I can be free. So uh yagya actions without expectation.
So spiritual sacrifice uh sacrifice for the nature, sacrifice for the ancestors and sacrifice for the riches, the sages, the geniuses of the world and then finally sacrifice for the humans that to to serve uh by physical energy, by discipline, by knowledge and by material things. And then finally when all the samscaras removed we achieve liberation. And there are samscaras three types. I told you also the inborn samscaras acquired samscaras and imposed samscaras. And I have uh proposed the way how to deal with those not to acquire those samscaras. The four ways in karma yoga. Give up the desire of the fruit. give up the pride and desire for recognition. Uh imagine that everything is divine all around you and imagine that you yourself is divine and there is no separate ego. Everything has become one and you act as just continuation of this great cosmic entity.
So if u there are any questions we'll be happy to talk with the comments we will continue discussing there. Thank you very much and namaskar.
