High Gas Prices? No Problem! With Cargo eBikes

[00:00:00]I don't know if you've heard, gas prices are really high. So, how can a cargo bike replace a car? Can it replace my minivan and my SUV? Yes, it can. It doesn't have to, but yes, it can. We're talking to an expert, a local Chicago e-bike shop owner and mom who's helped loads of families find the perfect bike for them. We are here in my shop in in Logan Square. We are an electric and cargo bike focused shop and we specialize in bikes for families and kids and everyday life. And what are the different styles of e-bikes? Most of the bikes that we work with are a front loader, like an Urban Arrow, or a longtail, like a Tern GSD. Fantastic.

[00:00:39]So, you know, we're talking a lot about families and we're talking about how people can use cargo bikes. So, how can a cargo bike replace a car? Cuz one of the reasons I'm talking to you right now is I don't know if you've heard, gas prices are really high. Something's going on with the Strait of Hormuz and as shops like yours have really flourished, I think people are starting to see other families with cargo bikes.

[00:00:59]What are the benefits and how does it replace a car? Cuz I think that's where people have a lot of hesitation is can it replace my minivan and my SUV? Yes, it can. It doesn't have to, but yes, it can. I have a vast array of customers who have only bikes and do not own a car and spend all of their transportation around the city utilizing CTA or bikes or ride-share. And I have people who have a car and a bike.

[00:01:28]The way it can replace a car, let's just go with the minivan example. Mhm. You're going to load kiddos into a minivan and go to the baseball field. You're going to load up the kids, you're going to be there for, let's say, for two games. Um, two baseball games, you're going to take snacks, you're going to take gear, you're going to take at least two kids.

[00:01:46]You're going to load everything into the minivan. You can do all of that on a bike.

[00:01:49]>> Yeah.

[00:01:50]And there's no gas.

[00:01:53]Yes.

[00:01:53]>> So, we don't have to think about the the of Hormuz. Yeah.

[00:01:56]>> You do still have to charge the battery, so there is a nominal fee for your electrical bill to charge the battery.

[00:02:02]You do have to inflate your tires with air every once in a while, but in terms of like accessibility, it's totally doable to replace many car trips with a bike versus a car.

[00:02:15]In the United States, there's something like 60% of all car trips are under 6 miles, and that's nationwide, not just in urban centers like Chicago. So many of our trips can be bike trips instead of car trips if we have a bike that can carry our stuff with us.
