10 Best & Scariest Horror Movies of 2026 (So Far)Añadido:
[groaning and screaming] >> 2026 is officially the year of the modern classic. From the haunting 28 years later, The Bone Temple, to the twisted reimagining of Lee Cronin's The Mummy, the scares have been relentless.
We've watched them all, so you don't have to. Here is what's actually worth the hype. In this video, we are counting down the 10 best horror movies of 2026 so far.
>> [screaming] >> Primate. Primate is a brutal horror film that reminds us why creature features can be so terrifying. The story follows college student Lucy, who heads back to her family's beautiful cliffside home in Hawaii with a group of friends for a relaxing vacation. The house comes with a very special resident, Ben, a chimpanzee raised by Lucy's late mother as part of a language study. Ben isn't a wild animal. He's practically family, who is also trained to communicate through a soundboard tablet. But, it gets dark very fast when Ben gets bitten by a rabid mongoose, transforming him into a calculating killer. We were horrified to see Ben using his voice tablet to taunt his victims, turning a tool meant for connection into a weapon for psychological terror. Lucy, bad.
>> [clears throat] >> BAD.
BAD.
SEND SOME BLOOD.
THE FILM DELIVERS PLENTY OF GORE, firmly placing itself in the slasher bloody horror subgenre. While it doesn't attempt to reinvent the wheel, it embraces familiar tropes with confidence. Primate delivers exactly what you expect from a horror movie, bloody and awful.
I would disagree. This is important.
Food, air. We need this, not just the CEO, all of us.
We need it. Popular YouTuber Markiplier's Iron Lung is a master class in claustrophobic horror that has taken the 2026 box office by storm. The story is set in a dark future where every star in the universe has simply vanished. To save what is left of humanity, a convict is kept inside a tiny rusted submarine with no windows and sent to a lifeless moon. The moon is covered in an endless ocean of human blood, and the sub is welded shut from the outside. Since the pilot can't see through any windows, he has to navigate using grainy, delayed photos of the deep. You're the first one down.
All we have are surface scans. That's why you're there.
Well, one of the reasons.
This creates an incredible amount of tension as you wait for the next picture to develop, wondering if something is lurking in the red abyss. This movie's heavy visuals feel like you're trapped right there with him. It's a slow burn nightmare that proves you don't need a huge budget to create a truly terrifying and memorable sci-fi experience.
What were you thinking?
You shouldn't have listened to all of them.
It's what she wants.
Undertone is one of the most creative horror films to come out in 2026.
Directed by Ian Tuason, this Canadian supernatural horror was made on a tiny $500,000 budget, yet managed to gross $18 million at the box office. The story follows Evie, a skeptical paranormal podcast host who moves back home to care for her dying mother. The terror begins when she receives mysterious soundbites of a demonic possession that seem to be bleeding into her actual house. Are you implying there's hidden messages in it?
>> Let me play it back in reverse.
>> [screaming] >> WHAT IS THAT?
WHAT MAKES UNDERTONE TRULY unique is that almost no characters actually appear on screen. The scares come almost entirely through sound and voice recordings. It is basically an audio nightmare brought to life. It has already become a massive sleeper hit, and it is definitely one of the most unsettling cinematic experiences of the year.
Clear.
All over.
All over.
All over.
If you loved the chaotic energy of the first film, Ready or Not 2, Here I Come is exactly the kind of sequel that goes bigger and bloodier. After surviving her wedding night, Grace discovers she is still a target. Only this time she must protect her sister Faith from four rival dynasties. These elite families are competing in an intense cult ritual for ultimate power, forcing Grace back into a brutal game of survival where the rules have become even more twisted.
>> The heads of the council families will try to kill you and your sister.
Whoever does wins the high seat and controls everything. Everything? The world.
It keeps that signature mix of dark humor and intense gore that made the original a cult classic. Seeing Samara Weaving go full action hero mode again is the best part of the movie, and having horror legends like Sarah Michelle Gellar in the cast makes it even better. Even though the plot follows a similar structure to the first one, the new twists make it a must-watch for any horror fan looking for a good thrill.
You could literally die from blowing a whistle. That's the nightmarish story of Whistle, a supernatural horror film directed by Corin Hardy, the man who brought us The Nun. Directed by Corin Hardy, the story follows a group of high schoolers who accidentally unlock a terrifying curse. The coolest part of the movie is how the deaths work.
Instead of a standard monster, blowing the whistle summons the exact way each character is destined to die in the future. Who are told the markings said summon the dead? The markings read summon you were dead. It feels a lot like Final Destination, where death is an inescapable force, but with a supernatural twist. Dafne Keen and Sophie Nélisse deliver great performances as they try to outrun their own fates. While the plot follows some familiar patterns, the unique concept of a future death coming to find you in the present adds a fresh layer of dread. It is a solid choice for anyone who enjoys a movie where the suspense never lets up.
Lee Cronin, the director behind horror icon Evil Dead Rise, is back with a brand new horror film. And this time, he's taking on one of horror's most iconic monsters. Lee Cronin's The Mummy hit theaters in April, and it's very different from the Brendan Fraser movies we've seen. The story follows a father named Charlie, whose young daughter Katie disappears in Cairo. Eight years later, she's found mummified inside an ancient sarcophagus. Instead of celebrating her return, the family quickly realizes something terrifying has come back with her. An ancient demon named Nasmu ranian slowly taking over Katie's body.
Don't worry, Grandma.
It's fun to be dead.
The movie is a total gorefest, leaning into the same intense body horror that made Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise so famous. It trades golden tombs for a dark household setting where the scares feel uncomfortably personal. We should definitely praise this movie for finally making mummies scary again. If you have a strong stomach, this is a standout entry in modern horror.
>> [screaming] >> Return to Silent Hill is a chilling 2026 reboot that brings fans back to the fog-drenched streets of gaming's most famous haunted town. The story follows James, played by Jeremy Irvine, who receives a letter from his dead partner, Mary. Drawn back to the cursed town of Silent Hill, he desperately searches for her while facing terrifying creatures and dark secrets about his own past.
Hannah Emily Anderson plays Mary, delivering a haunting performance alongside the rest of the cast. You did it, didn't you, Jimmy? You woke him up.
No one said it would be easy.
The film is a direct adaptation of the legendary Silent Hill 2 video game. It features iconic monsters like Pyramid Head and the eerie bubblehead nurses, all backed by a haunting soundtrack from the original game composer, Akira Yamaoka. This reboot definitely captures the psychological dread of being lost in a world built on guilt and secrets.
Send Help is Sam Raimi's latest horror hit, and it's a must-watch for anyone who loves a good survival story. The story follows Linda Little and her insufferable boss, Bradley Preston, who survive a plane crash only to find themselves stranded on a mysterious island. Rachel McAdams delivers a fantastic, slightly terrifying performance as Linda. It turns out she knows way more about survival and decides to use that power to put her boss through a psychological nightmare.
Let's not forget, I'm your boss. You work for me. We're not in the office anymore, Bradley.
Director Sam Raimi brings his signature style to the screen, so expect plenty of fast-paced camera shots and some truly gross-out moments in the jungle. Between the creepy island atmosphere and a shocking twist near the end that changes the entire story, this movie is a must-watch for horror fans this year.
I'm going to burn IT ALL DOWN.
>> MOTHER!
>> [screaming] >> SCREAM 7 HIT THEATERS IN FEBRUARY, and it's already the highest-grossing film in the entire Scream franchise, earning over $213 million worldwide. That's a pretty big deal for a horror series that started back in 1996. Directed by Kevin Williamson, the man who wrote the original film, this chapter brought the focus right back to Sidney Prescott.
After missing the last movie, Neve Campbell has finally returned to show everyone why she is the ultimate survivor. This time, Ghostface isn't just after Sidney. The killer targeted her family, including her daughter.
Well, I'm not hiding, [clears throat] Sidney.
Not this time.
Director Kevin Williamson, the original writer of the first Scream, steps behind the camera for the first time in the franchise, giving the film a classic feel. Even though it has only 42% on Rotten Tomatoes, the huge ticket sales mean the franchise isn't slowing down.
It's clear that even after 30 years, audiences still aren't tired of that iconic mask.
>> [screaming] >> 28 Years Later, The Bone Temple is one of the most talked about horror movies of 2026. Released in January, this post-apocalyptic zombie horror is the fourth film in the iconic 28 Days Later franchise, and it might just be the best one yet. The story is set in a ruined Britain years after the deadly rage virus first took over. It follows a young survivor named Spike, who finds himself trapped in a terrifying cult. At the same time, the scientist Dr. Ian Kelson, played by Ralph Fiennes, makes a creepy discovery. He realizes he is starting to form a strange bond with a special infected creature called an alpha. What's your name?
Spike.
No, no. I think your name is Jimmy.
Moving forward, these two separate storylines slowly crash together in a way that is truly unsettling. While the story is dark and intense, the real highlight for many fans was seeing Cillian Murphy return to his iconic role as Jim. Overall, it's a smart sequel that manages to be both a great character study and a heart-pounding horror movie, leaving everyone excited for the final part of the trilogy.
