You've seen the magnet down a copper pipe bid. It's a classic since the sumptuous Russian Emil Lenz discovered induction in 1834 and that demo's been done by more dudes than your mom. But have you ever seen it backwards? This is the first time I've ever seen a motor like this outside of the old school electric meters. The coil induces eddy currents in a copper disc and that gives us torque. It's wickedly simple.
