This weather forecast explains how meteorologists track precipitation patterns, including scattered showers and patchy fog, and predict temperature trends based on approaching weather systems like warm fronts. The forecast demonstrates how rainfall totals are measured and compared to seasonal averages, and how weather conditions can transition from rainy to sunny periods as systems move through an area.

WPRI 12 Weather Now 5/24/26: Rain Lingers Through First Half of Memorial Day; Drier EveningAdded:
Good evening everyone. I'm meteorologist Katie McNeel. You've now clicked on the weather now link and we're continuing to track showers across the area. Although they have become kind of more widely scattered at this point. That'll be the trend as we head towards your Monday as well. Unfortunately, still expecting some showers through at least the first half of the day. Despite there being a lack of rainfall in some areas now as we continue on this evening, we'll still be tracking some patchy fog and drizzly conditions across the area uh both inland and down towards the coast overnight tonight. Take a look at some of the rainfall totals we've received into the weather center this evening.
North Kingtown, a report of over an inch and a half of rainfall. Several reports approaching an inch and a half or over an inch of rain. Now, although the timing not great with the holiday weekend, we did need some meaningful rainfall across the area as we've been below average for the month of May.
Satellite and radar, you can see, as I mentioned, those showers becoming more widely scattered, still moving through the area for some, and we'll continue to see that trend as we head towards your Monday with a warm front approaching southern New England from the west and southwest, bringing kind of one last batch of showers through at least the first half of the day tomorrow.
Temperature trend will be a little bit more comfortable for your Monday. Highs closer to seasonable temperatures upper 60s to lower 70s. Still a little bit cool though with those clouds and showers. Feeling a lot more summerlike though for your Tuesday and Wednesday with highs return are turning back into the 80s. So let's take a look at what we're tracking as we head towards your Memorial Day. Unfortunately, we're expecting events, if not already uh cancel or rescheduled, to most likely do so with that chance for showers kind of ongoing throughout the morning. Although at this point, not looking at as much of the heavy rain aspect. We were tracking the potential for some downpours and thunderstorms. That threat does look to be diminishing, but we are still tracking rain throughout the morning and continuing on into the early afternoon before finally drying out from west to east towards the mid to late afternoon.
After 2 3:00, those conditions should improve and maybe even some sunshine for certain areas before the day closes. As we head towards your Tuesday, a much more pleasant day as I mentioned, warmer, partly sunny skies, increasing sunshine throughout the day and those highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. So with that, your Monday morning, we'll still be tracking those showers around throughout the morning hours.
Temperatures a little bit better, but still a bit cool, especially as those clouds linger on. Highs though, will be a lot more seasonable and feeling a little bit more humid out there as well in the upper 60s to low 70s. Tomorrow, the last day of kind of the more dreary weather before we uh rewelcome in some more summerlike temperatures and conditions for Tuesday, Wednesday, even Thursday of this upcoming week. looking pretty nice. So, good news there.
Unfortunately though, again, not coincide coinciding with the holiday weekend. And of course, we'll have updates for you guys both on air and online at wpri.com.
