PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) has been renamed to PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) because the original name was a misnomer that incorrectly suggested the disease was solely an ovarian pathology; in reality, PMOS is a multisystemic disorder involving endocrine, metabolic, reproductive, dermatological, and psychological manifestations, with the ovarian 'cysts' actually being arrested follicles rather than true cysts.

#pcos renamed to Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome.本站添加:
So, you all know that PCOS, that is polycystic ovarian syndrome, has been renamed to PMOS, polymetabolic ovarian polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome. Why the change in name? It reflects the evolution, the changes that have happened in the understanding of the disease over time. PCOS, that is polycystic ovarian syndrome, tells you that the disease is probably an ovarian pathology, but this is a misnomer.
Number one, there are no cysts in the ovaries. These are all arrested follicles. Secondly, it is not just an ovarian disease, it is a multisystemic disorder. Endocrine manifestations, there are metabolic manifestations, reproductive, dermatological, and even psychological manifestations of this disease. Just calling it PCOS does not actually tell you the extent and the complexity that this clinical entity carries. So, labeling it as polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome actually does a lot of good to it.
