Finishing Paint Touches and First Drive in our Custom Model A Sedan!Added:
All righty, folks. New day. What is today's plan? I want to get some black paint onto these stripes.
So, just to break the car up. There's a lot of brown. We're going to have black on the roof, so that's fine. We're We got black wall tires. That's good. This belt line, I want to add black. So, I'm probably going to do that and come up this little line just to stop. Should be pretty subtle up there. But at least this will break the car up if we do some black going all the way around. So, there's kind of that plan. I want to basically paint the spreader bar and then get my front headlights all on here and mounted. I definitely going to have to come up with a plan for that. We need this done. That way I can bolt everything and it's like permanently done. Uh then we got to jump into the tail lights. I have to work on the tail lights. We had we had issues with the tail lights uh feeding back into everything. It turns out it's like the the lights are LED. When I push the brake, all my dash lights, all the running lights would turn on. So, I got to put a diode in there. Um to just to separate the two so it doesn't uh I don't know. There's something on that LED board on the board cuz the tail lights are LED. There must be something on the board that feeds back. So, I'm just going to separate it with a diode.
Uh, and a diode's purpose is it lets power go one way, but it won't let it come back. So, on these tail lights, there's um uh it it's basically got three wires cuz I'm running through the signal. So, my brake and signal are sharing a wire. And this one's almost like it's old school where I have an individual brake light, I have uh an individual running light like I do, and then I'd have a signal as as a separate wire. So, that's how this thing wants to run. But we can't I I I'm my system isn't running that way. So, we're going to uh basically make both of these piggy back. The signal and the brake light are going to piggy back, which kind of doesn't work cuz that's like semi orange, but it does reflect into the red. So, it's kind of just is what it is. Um I don't know what else to do there. But anyways, uh the idea there is I got to put a diode in on the running lights so it can feed power to it, but none of these lights like none of the powers can come back. So that's what's going to happen there. I got to spray paint this part cuz I don't have the license plate light anywhere there. Like it's not going to there there's nothing.
Most of this is covered, but I don't really want to light up. So we got to deal with that. And then uh yeah, I don't know. Hopefully I can actually run this thing down to raise so we can go take it for a boot and then B we can go run it down the raise and see if he has time to actually start doing the wood for the top. Get that thing out of the way would be super cool. Um I don't foresee that we're going to get into uh getting the top done or anything in this video. That's for sure not happening. So I don't know how long it'll take Ray to do that. He's pretty quick at what he does, but he's uh that's just a hobby what he does. He farts around and he kind of restores some of these cars. But maybe we can go there and have a look at some of his cars in his collection or whatever. I know he's working on a 32 Chevy right now. He's kind of restoring.
So anyways, I guess on that note, we should get started. All right, buddy.
We're going to get started.
Hey, hey, hey.
I don't make them. Heat. Heat.
Hey, hey, hey.
Heat. Hey, Heat.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
Come on. Come on.
Hey, hey, hey.
There you go.
Hey.
Hey. Hey.
I don't care.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
Hey, heat. Hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
All right, folks. So, we got our stripe is on. I think it looks good.
Check it out. All done. Kind of cleaned up my windows a bit. Did my thing. We got our tail lights in. They're wired.
It's working good. Diode was the ticket.
Um, being the LEDs, that flasher is a little slow, but they do work. So, that is done. Wired, loomed up, and all that jazz. So, now I pulled the hoods off.
Uh, now that it's off, I'm thinking about it. I actually got to wire up my electric fan. We got to get that done.
Have to go over everything. I'm sure there's things I'm missing here yet. But anyways, taking the hood off. Throw that to the side. I can't find any weird mesh that I want. But I did find this. It's a pretty fine mesh.
So, I don't know. Yeah, I think you can see that. So, I'm going to try to maybe double this up. And I have like screen door mesh. So, I wonder if I run all of those. I have all these weird screens.
So, I don't know if that'll matter much.
I think if I paint those, if I paint that, that might be enough. But I do need to come in here and I'm gonna mask this off. I'm going to spray this black.
Hopefully I got some flat. I want to spray this black. And I'll just spray this insert black. So when this comes in to cover it, doesn't look very distracting, but I'm hoping once everything's got some paint on it. I'll do two layers of this mesh first into here cuz we have our I'm hoping this will work. We have our little studs. So I'll kind of sandwich it down.
We'll hold it in there. I'll I'll get them cut. We'll put them in there. I'll spray paint them. We will spray paint this and then we'll just I don't know.
Hopefully it hides everything or at least makes it kind of go away so it's not so obvious. It's pretty gross. But I need to get that done so I can get this grill on. And I was going to do some quick connects with the lights, but I don't think this will ever really come off. So, should be okay in my eyes. But uh yeah, we'll uh we'll kind of get this a little bit closer here. Uh yeah, I don't know. I'm pretty happy. Check it out. I just It's just enough black. I like it. I like it. Yeah, I got I got distracted the other night and I just decided to do that.
I was supposed to wire my lights and I didn't do it. But we got that all done.
That's there. I will have to come back, I think, and touch up that uh windshield surround because now that thing just looks kind of kind of junky over because that was done in a flat.
So, I think the gloss is where it's at.
So, we'll kind of we'll we'll spray a little bit on here, too. Get that done or get this frame kind of shiny and then uh yeah, hopefully this grill thing works. So, I'll get started on this and uh well, fingers crossed it does what I want. All right, we're going to mark this. And this stuff's always miserable to cut, so I Ouch.
I don't know. I think this might work.
See if my Sharpie works on here.
Oh, yeah. Mint, mint, mint, mint.
Okie dokie. Okie dokie. Pokey. Let's see here.
Well, let's test that first.
Pretty much just want to have a Yeah. Okay.
I'm going to trim everything like I did.
I think it's still a little big. I guess I could use snips, but the shear works so much nicer. And then I'm going to make a second one. So, I'm wondering if they offset it'll kind of give me a little bit of a grid.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey.
Hey. Hey.
Can't quite stretch it.
Make a line. And I'm going to try to break it just so it sort of stays solid cuz it's not very solid. Here.
Hey. Hey.
Heat. Heat.
Let that dry and see how that works.
Hey.
Hey.
Hey. Heat. Heat. N.
Heat. Heat.
Hey.
Hey. Hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
Heat. Heat.
Check it out. I am so happy the way that turned out. It's totally not like perfect, but it's it definitely hides everything. So, that was what I'm shooting for. You know, you get in there actually on C. Well, no, you can see the camera's actually showing it way more than it is. But from here, it's like I don't know. You'll walk around, it just just looks the part like wind. So, all I did is I took two pieces of that mesh and just over overlapped them. But that's Yeah. We're Dang, you're near close here, man.
Got our lights in. They're working great. Um, man, we just have like there's just some stuff inside. I still want to actually probably make or print some kind of hood ornament here yet. I got to do something there. And I should do something here.
Seeing how, you know, normally that would be the Ford crest, but maybe we'll do our our little hack thing there or something. I don't know. We need something in there. We definitely That was just Yeah, I know. I got to clean the glass. I'm not too worried if anything overspray on there. I'm just going to like hit it with a razor blade.
Um, basically, I just wanted to get some gloss in there. It is all rattle can, so it is just going to dull out, which will be totally fine. I'm okay with that. I just felt this windshield frame was just needed that little bit of gloss to match up with this. So now we basically have to get it down and I got to clean this sucker all out. Do some stuff with the battery box. I actually still haven't got a key. I actually forgot all about that. So I got to do that yet. But yeah, for the most part I got to go check with Ray now and see if I can actually bring this thing down cuz we're pretty much there. Uh close. Very close. We need the top done so we can actually do the vinyl and a few things there. And then, you know, it's been a long stretch, but hey, we're on the home stretch here. Or it's been a long run, but we're on the home stretch.
We're just about just about got her. Um, yeah, I'm pumped. It's pretty awesome.
All right. Um, I got to get a call with Ray and then we got to see how the weather is, whether I can actually get out there and kind of uh get out in my driveway cuz it's pretty muddy.
Well, it's been a few days and I can't get this down to raise for a little bit yet. Couple days anyways. So, I think I'm just going to keep kind of plugging away at it. What I got to do or what I want to do is uh well, I'm going to make up I think I have I'm going to print up something for a hood ornament cuz I need to do that and then a badge or something for the front maybe. I don't know if I'll do that today, but for sure I need like a a fake a fake kind of rad cappy thing up there. I've been kind of going through just tidying up some wires and stuff. So, kind of have that all done. So, that is okay.
Um, but yeah, up here we need something there. We kind of need something there, too. But I don't know. I have one I think I have a design on my other one sort of like it looks sort of like the original rad cap. And then I noticed in the back I don't really have anywhere to put a license plate. I was gonna just bolt a plate like that, but it's so close down it'll just get slaughtered.
So what I think I'm going to do is just make a bracket that comes out that I can bolt the plate on like that. And then um the way we'll do it is we'll have our tag lights will end up going into the bolt holes. That way when it's on uh it can like shine light up onto the thing.
So that should we should just make that thing float out like that. That would look pretty good. Nice and centered in the back. That's kind of kind of what I'm shooting for. All right. Well, simplest way to do here, I think, is going to be I'll make a bracket that I can like bolt and tap. Uh it'll kind of have a flange, come back, and then come back up again. That simple. And then we just bolt the plate on. Easy peasy.
All right. Well, we'll start with that cuz anything 3D printed I got to go do in the house. But after that, I think I don't know what's the best thing to do.
Take it for a little drive. Like I don't know. I haven't actually driven it up and down the road yet. So, we'll do that. We'll kind of get that out of the way so that when we go take it to raise, I at least know everything's good to go at that point.
Ah, ah.
Ah, heat.
Ah, hey.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat. N.
Well, it's kind of late, so I can't quite go for drive. Well, it would I could go for the drive, but it wouldn't be very interesting for you folks. Um, did my license plate bracket. Yeah, I don't know. It is what it is. It's okay.
It works. I just got to poke my wire through and then basically I got two studs on the bottom that go uh that they'll do my my LED for my lights. And then I printed, as you seen, my little dad, which I think resembles roughly a stock Model A rad cap. I think I have one of these on my Roadster. So, purely decorative, but hey, kind of finishes off the front. Hey, check it out. So, I have that. I'm going to come up with something here, but I don't know what yet. I need something that's not the Ford Crest. So, I don't know. We'll play that one out, but that's about all I can do for now. till tomorrow. Then we'll go for we'll take it for a little burn. We may as well, right? Been a long time coming. I mean, I've already gone for one ride, so if you've seen on the Patreon, you've actually seen me take it for a little rip in the mud field out there, but which is our roads.
Okay, till tomorrow.
Oh man, check it out. That thing looks good outside.
Golly.
Hey bud, you want to go for a rip? Is that a plan? Let's go for a trip.
Come on, dude. Hop on in. Look at that.
Your style.
All right.
I'm not sure how my drone is going to like this. So, today it's kind of windy out, but we'll see. Oh, and a side note, right? You going to sit? H. You going to sit your butt down? Come on. You can park it. Good job. And on side note, I realized I forgot to get a key yet.
All right, bud. You ready?
All right, trick is getting down my driveway. It's terrible.
Oops.
All right.
You done, bud? Had enough?
Okay.
Well, that was a successful first little outing. Well, technically it's my second outing, but that being said, we had no problems, right, buddy? It ran I wouldn't say cool, but it wasn't hot either. These LS's usually run pretty hot, so I don't know. I uh Let's see where I'm at here. Stupid ignition. I still haven't got an ignition. Ah, whatever. The fan didn't kick in. It was running about 200.
Just a little over 200. 210 about there.
But yeah, I don't know. Super cool. I am I am pumped. Look at that thing. Looks awesome.
Looks awesome. I like it.
Hey, bud. First rip. Pretty good. I didn't get into it too much cuz I don't know. My air fuel gauge is going nuts.
For the most part is running just fat.
super fat, like 10. My gauge only goes to 10. It's running 10. So, I'm like struggling with these injectors. I'm trying to figure that stuff out. But the big picture, I'm pretty happy. I'm waiting uh in the next day or so. I'll be able to take this thing down to raise. He's going to actually, like I say, he's going to do all the framework for the wood for me. So, that's a huge win. So, we'll get that done. Then, we'll be able to put a top on it. The weather's pretty good, but you know what? I own a roadster, so kind of cool.
of a closed a closed hot rod here. I did make a little bit of boost, but I didn't want to get into it because I do not have the computer set at all. So, this would be the most miserable thing to pull the motor out if I screwed it up.
So, I do not want to do that. So, I want to make sure I have everything dialed in right and good with this thing. It's It's going to be a handful. It's going to be fun pretty much. On that note, though, I am going to call it here. So, as always, I want to thank you all for watching and we will catch you on the next one later.
