RG Kar Case: Bengal Government Suspends Former Kolkata Police Commissioner And Two IPS Officers

[00:00:00]The RG Kar Hospital case where a woman doctor was brutally assaulted, raped, and murdered now has repercussions [music] vis-a-vis the fact that it hasn't been forgotten by the new BJP government.

[00:00:13]On the orders of the Chief Minister and the government basically, former Kolkata Commissioner of Police has been suspended now. Three IPS officers have [music] been suspended over the RG Kar probe case. Former Kolkata CP Vineet Goyal has been suspended. He had faced questions and backlash earlier as well that the police had handled this in [music] the manner it should have because the family had made allegations against the police then. Uh we're also told that uh the Chief Minister said RG Kar case was mishandled then and a sort of report from the Home Department. Now, former CP Kolkata Vineet Goyal is one and there are two other IPS officers who've [music] also been suspended for now.

[00:01:00]Mr. Vineet Goyal suspended column HCS guidance and CS guidance HCS Uh as per the rules Uh judge get a rule that I mean it.

[00:01:45]properly F I R investigation initially the part that police have got to do it to do as a discipline organization I'm not sure what to do on my desk or carry the logo.

[00:02:19]Victim and mother and father take the two gentlemen officer on behalf of the state government So questioning the police the Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari has said it was mishandled then has asked for the report. I want to bring in my colleague Tapas Sen Gupta on this Tapas who are the other two officers who have been suspended and why do you think this decision has been taken now?

[00:02:46]Well see this decision was long pending because police commissioner then police commissioner Vinith Goyal along with the deputy commissioner of police central division Indira Chakraborty and the deputy commissioner of police northern division that's Abhishek Gupta. These three police officers were at the eye of the storm at that point in time. A lot of controversy erupted following the role of the then police commissioner Vinith Goyal and it it was not about only investigation or as part of the allegations made by the victim's family members but also the kind of action that was taken while a mob ransacked through a portion of R.G. Kar Hospital Medical College and Hospital where at the dead of night in presence of such huge police bandobast.

[00:03:30]As some say that despite having huge police forces they were not given the permission to act in the first place to stop that mob from vandalizing. In as a result of that a major portion of the building was ransacked. Several police officials sustained injuries. Senior police officials sustained head injury.

[00:03:47]And not stopping there the family also alleges that these officers went on to their residence and tried to the give them money. What what the the family members alleged at that point in time they tried to bribe them. So, there were a lot of allegations as far as the role and the conduct of these senior police officials and right have been suspended what the government maintains of the of the BJP government in Bengal that the case was mishandled [music] then and the role of the police was questionable in that case. So, we'll wait for further details on this. For now, I'm signing off from this bulletin but on a note that the car case or any case like that of that nature should never be forgotten. Voices must consistently be raised. The government will take as probable action that needs to be taken but the fact is such incidents should not happen in the first place and that should be the priority of every government in every state.
