This video provides a sobering look at the intersection of rigid legal procedures and the heavy moral weight of capital punishment. It effectively demystifies the "special issues" in Texas law while maintaining the gravity of the case's tragic reality.

Watching Athena Strand's Killer Get The Death Penalty Was Surreal追加:
Hey, what is up everybody? Welcome back to Triple Ryan's Real Reactions and today I am watching the jury and the judge make their decision on Tanner her in the Athena Strand case.
This is from the Court TV YouTube channel. Let's go.
There he is. An evil an evil >> has received no >> evil human being and very bald.
>> Notification from the jury that they have reached a verdict. Both sides ready to receive the verdict.
>> I have not watched this yet. This is all fresh to me.
>> Ladies and gentlemen, this courtroom is very full and I do not know what this verdict is. But remember, whatever the verdict is, we're in a courtroom. All right? And there will be no reactions to the ver.
>> He's got some great judge hair. You know what I'm saying? That's just some good judge hair.
>> Verdict. All right, let's go to work.
>> Get that throw clear.
My question is, will Tanner her have any sort of reaction facially? Will he cry? Will he do anything? Because so far he's been stoic throughout this.
Assume this is the jury coming in.
Some tight pants on that guy right there in the front.
I thought they were zooming in on the pants. And they're trying. You can see Tanner's bald head.
They're trying to get to him. Oh, no.
That's um Athena's mom right there. What a great woman she is. What a strong woman she is.
genuinely a credible mother.
>> Everyone may be seated.
Good afternoon, Mr. Presiding juror. It is my understanding jury has reached a verdict on both issues.
>> Okay, you can hand it please to Deputy King.
>> Do the right thing.
>> Answers to special issues. Special issue number one, whether there is a probability that the defendant would commit criminal acts of violence that would constitute a continuing threat to society. The answer, we the jury, >> absolutely yes.
>> Unanimously find beyond a reasonable doubt that the answer to special issue number one is yes.
>> There we go.
>> Signed by the presiding juror.
>> Good. Special issue number two, whether taking it into consideration all the evidence, including the circumstances of the offense, the defendant's character and background, and the personal moral culpability of the defendant, there is a sufficient mitigating circumstance or circumstances to warrant that a sentence of life imprisonment without parole rather than the death sentence be imposed.
>> No.
>> Answer. We the jury unanimous unanimously find that the answer to special issue number two is no. Okay, good. I got nervous for a second.
>> Signed by the presiding juror. Does either side desire a poll?
>> No, your honor.
>> No, your honor.
>> Miss Anderson, Mr. Goel, is there any legal reason why Senate should not be pronounced?
>> No, your honor.
>> Mr. Horner, if you'd stand, please. It's the order of the court that you, Tannerlin Horner, been a judge to be guilty of the offense of capital murder as found by the jury. Jury having answered the special issues making it mandatory that your pen punishment be death. It is therefore the order of this court that your punishment be death.
>> Thank you.
They got it right. This is to me this is the type of person that the death penalty was created for.
You're taking the life of an innocent child.
You don't deserve a life. It's plain and simple. I don't care what your opinion on things is, politics, whatever. This is the type of guy that this was created for and he deserves to not be breathing the same air that we do >> before the hour of sunrise on a day.
>> Absolutely no reaction. You got to wonder what's going on in through his little pea brain in there. absolutely no reaction >> to be determined by this court upon a mandate of affirmance issued by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals at the State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas, you will be caused to die in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice until you said Tanner her dead. said execution pre procedure shall be determined and supervised by the director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The clerk of this court shall issue a death warrant in accordance with this sentence directed to the dire director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for that purpose.
>> Now, this is where Texas doesn't mess around. Texas is, you know, can be iffy on things, but here's one of those times where I'm I'm in full support here.
clerk shall deliver such warrant to the sheriff of this county and to be by him delivered to the director of the department of criminal justice together with you and you will remand to the custody of the Taran County jail to await transportation to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at Huntsville, Texas.
The other thing I want to say is hopefully it doesn't take five years or 10 years for this to happen because sometimes this just takes forever and forever and forever and it just keeps going and going and going and make it quick.
Especially for the family's sake. Get this guy out of here. Don't drag this out. This is a victory. This is a big one. A big win.
But don't drag it out because sometimes people are on death row for freaking 10, 15, 20 years. And at that point, it's like, well, what's the point? There's a lot of there's genuinely a decent amount of people that just die while on death row. That's very common. Hey, that's not good. That defeats the whole purpose of it. So, let's make sure that this is efficient. And I think with the being in Texas, it probably will be >> in the execution of this sentence. I will sign this death sentence as required by law.
Your appeal of the finding of this guilt by the jury and their determination of the answers to the question in this sentence are automatically appealed to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin, Texas.
You will be appointed a lawyer to represent you on direct appeal. And your >> you shouldn't even be able to appeal a death penalty sentence. What's even the point?
>> Lawyer will decision.
charge >> of this case at no charge. You have the right to have a second lawyer to represent you on rits of habius corpus.
It's a separate matter from your direct appeal. Do you wish to have counsel appointed for your writ purposes?
>> Yes, sir.
>> Okay. Then I will appoint you uh lawyers uh writ lawyers for that. Mr. Anderson, Mr. Goel, if you will remain on his case pending your his decision uh and we have all the appellet paperwork filled out. I have received his uh acknowledgement certification of the right to appeal and I appreciate you doing that.
>> Yeah, that I I like I get it, but the right to appeal in my opinion, it shouldn't exist here. That jury makes that decision on the death penalty, you're that's it. There should be no appeal. Just drags it out even further.
Just makes it even more annoying for the family. more things they got to hear about, read about, go to.
Ridiculous.
>> You may be seated. Is there an alleution?
>> Once again though, pretty much absolutely no reaction, no emotion from him, which is not shocking because most of these monsters don't have emotion.
And I saw uh some comments on the internet saying I feel really bad for his his wife or girlfriend and and their I don't know if he has a son or a young a young son or young daughter.
I don't they are better without him.
What he did to that child he could he could have done to his own child. So I don't agree to that either. I I don't feel bad. I think they're better off without him.
I really do. And they may not think that. The wife or the girlfriend may not think that. But when somebody does an act like this, if he didn't get caught, he would have done it again and again and again, guaranteed. And he probably potentially could have did it to his own family. So, it's for the best.
Is this Athena's father?
>> He may speak.
He may speak from wherever he feels the most comfortable.
Uh, I'm Elijah Strand. I'm Jacob's brother.
>> Oh, okay. It's her uncle.
>> Um, there are no words that truly capture the devastation that Tanner Horner caused us and our family.
What he took from this world is not just a child.
He took a life, a future, and a piece of every single person who loved him.
He took a granddaughter, a daughter, a niece, a cousin, and a friend.
She would call me Uncle Elijah cuz she for the longest time couldn't say the Elijah part of my name.
It was the best thing to see her running up to me with her arms open yelling Uncle Elijah.
And that's one of my last memories I have of her.
And now I get to never hear that again.
And see, this is why I'm very pleased with the decision the jury made because look at how many people's lives that this is affecting for once again, this isn't just going to affect their lives for a couple days, couple months. This will be generational trauma forever.
I think more than a headline.
She was laughter, curiosity, kindness, and she had a dreams that she will never get to chase.
Birthdays that she will never celebrate and a life she'll never get to live because of his actions.
>> I love that he's pointing right at him.
I guarantee you Tanner Horner is not looking at him. He's probably just looking down like a coward.
>> Our family has a thin lap with an empty.
I have three daughters. Two that get to got to meet her and grow with her and one that will never meet.
And he took that away from them as well.
A cousin and a friend.
He stole a sense of safety from all of us in our me and my wife just got comfortable enough to let our kids play outside. And that's even in our backyard, not closer to the road.
>> That's the one thing that like, you know, the fact that we're in a society now where like a lot of us are a little bit older. You know, I'm 35.
Man, I was out on my bike.
God knows where I was at half of my life when I was a kid, you know, doing whatever, hanging with my friends, playing baseball, just goofing off. It's like it feels like that doesn't exist anymore.
And people say, "Oh, kids never play outside anymore. I never see kids outside." I didn't well because of people like Tanner her because of the the violence that is in our society these days I don't blame parents for not wanting their kids to be running around you know yes this bad people have always existed and serial killers and things have always existed but you hear about the 60s7s 80s 90s and I can only speak for the 90s because I live through it. Yes, there obviously there were still issues going on in the world, but it was considered a lot safer. A lot of people didn't lock their doors.
Kids were outside all the time. Kids were at the park all the time unsupervised. Can't do that anymore.
Someone someone like this like Tanner Hero will do what he did to Athena.
And it's it it absolutely sucks and it's not fair to the kids and the youth of of of uh and I'll just speak for America because this is where I live. It it's it makes me disgusted and it and there's a there's a reason why I I really don't want any kids and it's because I'm scared of the society that we live in and I would feel weird bringing in a child right now into this just crazy time period that we're in. And it's just my opinion.
I just am disgusted by it.
He's robbed us of safety, peace, and our trust in the world and forever changed who we are as a family.
>> Exactly.
>> And we are left to care to grief that never fades.
We are left with questions that will still never have answers.
Wow, he is actually looking at him. I am genuinely stunned that he is looking at him.
>> And we are left trying to honor a beautiful little girl.
>> I would have put everything on the fact that he would be staring at his feet >> whose life was taken in the most senseless and horrific way.
>> You know what's crazy? This man tried to uh say that it was his his alter ego that did it, that it wasn't him.
Brother, you're not two-faced. This isn't this isn't the Dark Knight Rises.
Tanner Warner, I want you to hear this directly.
You did not just take a life. You destroyed the family.
You took a little girl who trusted the world and repaid that innocence with violence.
You chose to cause pain that will last generations.
You say you found God, but what you did to Athena stands in direct opposition to everything that you now plan to believe.
Thank you for saying that. I say it all the time. Everybody that commits these horrific acts somehow finds God.
God wouldn't want you in in in this society.
In Matthew 18:6, it says, "If anyone causes one of these little ones to stumble, it would be better for them to have a millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned."
>> That is how seriously harm against child is judged.
And to me it looks like Tanner her is looking at him but like you know when like you're looking at something but you're not thinking or paying attra like Patrick Star from Spongebob just like high-pitched noises going on like he's not he's not present and you will be judged. You will face the wrath of God.
He g Tanner her is going to meet somebody and I hope he likes the heat because it's going to be real hot where Tanner her is heading and it ain't going to be with Jesus.
But I want you to know >> that you are nothing.
>> Yes, >> you are a footnote in a story.
will forever be remembered. Her name will forever be celebrated and everyone will forget you.
>> Dude, he is cooking him. Amazing job here.
>> You wanted your 15 minutes of fame. You got it. And no one's going to remember you after this.
>> Elijah, incredible.
Exactly that. Everybody will continue to speak Athena's name. We'll make sure of it. And comments of YouTube videos and posts. We'll make sure of it.
Um, and you know, I'll make I'll make a a a plea, right? Not not plea, but I'll make a I I won't say his name anymore.
I'll just call him TH. I won't even address his name anymore going forward.
If I make any more videos and whatever, I won't even say his name.
I won't utter it.
>> Mr. St. Any other alleocations?
>> No. Thank you. This is your prisoner, Sheriff.
Get this scumbag out of here.
Put those cuffs on extra tight there, Sheriff.
Everybody is bald.
>> Ladies and gentlemen, this will conclude your services as jurors.
>> Great job, jury.
>> In December, Johnson, >> thank you.
>> In December that you go, >> my my thoughts are with the family. I know that the triple army is is thinking of the family, too, because this is still so much to go through. this happened years ago and this is reopening so many wounds. I I hope that they have at least a percent of closure from this.
I don't believe they will until he's officially out of this universe and his life is gone. But uh good job to the jury and how they handled it. Rest in peace to Athena Strand. Um and um I'm I'm It's one less monster walking this earth and we should be doing more of this. That's why this this death penalty was created >> mailbox and saw a jury summons and you never thought you'd be involved in this.
Okay. Well, here we are 6 months later and I thank you. And also in your presence I want to thank the lawyers.
Lawyers in real life don't behave.
>> Wow. The judge is is about to cry here >> like they do on television. Okay. Mr. Stton, Mr. Barry, Miss Duel, Mr. Clap them all the members of the staff. They represent the citizens of Wise and Jack County and I hope that those citizens have had a chance to watch their work because I appreciate it.
Sanderson and Mr. Go are members of the regional public defenders office out of love. That is a government corporation that provides representation to people who are accused of capital murder where the state is seeking the death penalty in counties that have 100,000 in population or less.
And that is 195 counties in the state.
And all these lawyers do is death penalty cases.
So think about that. what they had done in this case, they had to do it in 194 other counties.
The professionalism that they demonstrated to each other, the courtesy that they demonstrated to each other makes me a better judge. And I thank you.
I thank the sheriff and his staff bails.
And the rock in this room is the lady that's sitting right here in front of me.
I'll tell you, you know, like especially being a judge in a case like this, he had to sit through just like everybody and the jury and stuff, he had to sit through agonizing hours of audio.
And I' I've heard multiple people describe just how disgusting and horrible it was. And man, I can't even imagine what that does to you. Even if you're not a part of it as a family member, you be you become a part of it.
You know what I'm saying? becomes personal.
>> If y'all will retire to your jury room, I'll be back with some final instructions. Okay. Thank you very much.
All right.
>> Well, at least justice was served.
Vindication. Once again, I really pray that they they are swift about this.
They are fast about this. And that that man TH fries real soon. not years and years and years, but ASAP. I really, really hope so. Uh, make sure to sound off in the comments whatever you'd like to say opinion-wise.

Um, again, rest in peace to Athena Strand.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family. And um to everybody watching that has kids out there, I know it's probably a tough time to, you know, um to be alive and I commend you on on uh raising children with people like like that out there. It it's it's scary. Um it really is. Um that is it for me here on Triple R. Shout out to the Triple Army for always reporting for duty. As always, please don't bother me while I'm watching True Crime. Peace.
Out.
