Cold front brings rain snow and freeze risk to parts of New MexicoAdded:
Let's talk about some some really nice guys out there. We have some snow falling right now in the mountains in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. You can see that new snow at the very top of those peaks from our Buffalo Thunder camera. Now, it's 58° at Buffalo Thunder, but the wind is a little bit gusty. You can see it's about 31 mph.
Occasionally, we are getting some pretty high gusts throughout the metro, but right now you can see it's 66° here in Albuquerque. We've been seeing some on-and-off showers, but it's been mostly dry this evening in terms of getting a lot of rain on the ground. That wind is going to start to die down though as we get past sunset. And you can see right here the active picture in terms of storms, very little in areas like Mount Taylor.
You can see that there's Well, something trying to happen between Bernalillo and Santa Fe, but the bulk of the action is actually in the Sangre de Cristo mountains, where right now there's some as we saw snow forming there in the highest elevations. A little bit of thunder and lightning happening out toward areas like Wagon Mound, and this is part of the system as it works its way out of the state. So, that's going to continue to happen throughout the rest of the evening, but in the meantime, we're going to be talking about some gusty weather nearly statewide. I mean, it's as windy as 31 mph in areas like Roswell, 30 in Deming, and you can see it's pretty gusty in northern areas of the state.
And what we have is a cold front moving in. So, this is going to prompt a freeze warning across a lot of northern New Mexico.
If you're in the shaded area, your temperatures could be dropping between 28° and 32°.
So, just make sure you're prepared for that. You You definitely want to take care of your pets, but also plants as well. This is considered a late season freeze for this time of year. Otherwise, the rest of New Mexico is going to do a little bit better in terms of those temperatures. It's going to be warm in comparison. Areas like Truth or Consequences at 50° overnight, 44° for Roswell. You can see that northern areas of the state are going to be ranging mostly in the 20s and 30s within that warned zone, but Albuquerque, I'm predicting around 42°. So, that freeze warning expires and then we get into warmer weather and in fact, it's going to be a rapid warm-up as we get toward the end of the work week where there will be some little chance of recycled moisture in the north central mountains, but I think mostly dry and turning downright hot uh on Saturday across southern areas of the state where we are going to be reaching the 90s in some communities like Carlsbad, but it is going to be warm across northern New Mexico and central areas of the state.
That gets us into Mother's Day, which is going to be dry for the most part. I think it's going to take care of mom, you know, I'm not expecting any uh at least hazardous weather on Mother's Day. So, hopefully those outdoor plans will turn out just fine.
You can see across the southeast for tomorrow, it's going to be mostly 70s getting warmer by the day across southwest reaching 80° in areas like Deming. Roswell, look at this spike in temperature. This is going to be because of a little bit of a dome of of of a heat wave sitting over the state on Saturday, then it's back to nearly triple digits by Tuesday and Wednesday of next next week. That's going to be some serious heat for this time of year.
Across the northeast tomorrow, uh 60s and 70s and I'm expec- I'm expecting the northwest is also going to be fairly comfortable out there. A little bit breezy during the day, but the rain chances, they're all but out of here.
So, we're looking at drier weather for the next few days. Getting in the mid 80s this weekend for Farmington. You can see that for Las Vegas, we cool down just a touch on Sunday, but it's going to be a 30% chance of showers there. So, if you have Mother's Day uh plans in the afternoon, just keep in mind it could be kind of gusty and maybe some little bit of splash of rain. Across north mountains tomorrow, high 54, Red River 68 in Taos and 73 in areas like the Española Valley. As far as Santa Fe, it almost gets to 80° this weekend, but for Mother's Day, just a 10% chance of showers and a high in the mid-70s.
Across the East Mountains, almost 70 for areas like Mountainair.
I'm expecting high 60s for Sandia peak for the Sandia area. And you can see about 75° for Belen up toward Los Lunas and Bosque Farms. So, in terms of the Albuquerque metro, we are looking warm and turning actually pretty hot, reaching the 90s by next week. So, if you enjoy this [music] cool weather, do so now.
