[00:00:03]Hello everybody and welcome back. So we are back down here at the Clangling Canal breach here in Witch to do another update for you guys this Tuesday morning and it's looking a lot nicer than yesterday morning when we got soaked.

[00:00:19]Um yeah, the sun's out already. It's cold, very cold at norly wind coming down unlike me. Yeah, bit of a bit of a disappointment in May so far, isn't it?

[00:00:31]April is lovely, but uh yeah, May has not been so nice, has it?

[00:00:41]So, obviously, we saw the channel we dug yesterday to the covert and you can see that is flowing now.

[00:00:50]And um the excavator down is down there and the dumpers just clearing up the rest of that sand. Hopefully this should be done today, I reckon. Can't see why not. And they can get rid of all the sand off that field at last.

[00:01:05]And uh hopefully let the grass grow. Um but you can see the grass isn't grown yet on the bit that it did a couple of weeks ago.

[00:01:18]Looks like maybe they do have to reseed it.

[00:01:22]Obviously, the grass will do this itself eventually.

[00:01:26]But uh yeah, I guess they need it for later this year when if I'm a bit sheep back in.

[00:01:35]But as you can see, well, the high pressure washer machine is still on site and the guys are still here. So yeah, they didn't unblock that hidden culvert yesterday.

[00:01:53]So, they're back or they they didn't go.

[00:01:57]They just stayed or at least the machine did.

[00:02:02]Guess this is why they have a separate van because as you can see, they're down there and looks like they're still trying to unblock it at the minute.

[00:02:12]Yeah, a lot of people said yesterday there's a big kink in the pipe. I didn't even realize.

[00:02:17]And uh that could have something to do with the pump.

[00:02:22]Hopefully the pump is all operational now.

[00:02:26]Looks to be all right.

[00:02:32]As you can see this morning, they literally just turned on that pump to pump all the water out that cover again so they can get in there and uh get the machine in, I guess, and try and unblock it further.

[00:02:46]I mean, it does look like it is partially unblocked cuz there is water that side and they're pumping it out, but I guess it's not fully. Yeah, it's good to see that that's operational now, the pump.

[00:03:01]And um yeah, the guys have just gone back up cuz I think they got to wait for that to pump out now.

[00:03:09]Yeah, it looks like they're going to put the pressure washer in this end of the cover where it comes out into the brook.

[00:03:14]They got the hose there, this side.

[00:03:20]Uh they're obviously going to wait for that to pump out a bit first and then do that.

[00:03:36]Yeah, looks like he's packing it up there, the Jetta and they're going to move it over to the exit of the culvert.

[00:03:47]So yesterday in all the excitement guys, I missed a vital update from the CRT.

[00:03:53]Now the last update on the stoppages website was the 13th of April and this came out at 12:20 yesterday on the 11th.

[00:04:03]So I'll read it out now. We have now completed the draining of approximately 15 million L of water from the flooded field. This has allowed us to tidy up the field and unblock the cover. A condition survey will be completed on the cover, but initial indications are that it's in good condition. The ground investigations is to be completed this week and offsite testing of the materials is ongoing. Excavation of the embankment has commenced. The embankment will be rebuilt using a technique called reinforced earth where granular material is strengthened with layers of horizontal polymer geogrid. The canal channel is to be constructed in concrete. Overp pumping is continuing with approximately 40 million lers a day being transferred past the brereech to Hston Reservoir.

[00:05:02]So, I found a great example on Google of what reinforced earth is. So, I'll put this up on screen now, and it gives you a really good example of uh how the embankment may look. Now, I don't know exactly if they're going to follow this design completely, but we can see that it's all um labeled here, and this is most likely how they're going to rebuild the embankment. And then of course they have the concrete trough which will run through the middle. Um so yeah it's going to be very interesting to see the process of this embankment be rebuilt using this method and uh I'm yeah quite excited to learn all about it.

[00:05:41]But yeah at last guys we know um what repair method they're going to use to rebuild the embankment. This is great news. Uh we've been waiting for this and um looks like we were initially right with a concrete channel through the middle concrete trough. So that's going to be quite cool as well.

[00:06:03]I can't help thinking though, would it not be cheaper to actually build an aqueduct?

[00:06:10]I guess not. But maybe they have to for heritage reasons return it to an embankment. But I would think it's cheaper to make an aqueduct and that would be pretty cool. Um, but yeah, I don't think that's going to happen.

[00:06:29]You see, they're moving the jetta now to the other side of the brook.

[00:07:09]This is great guys to get to see some more jetting. This probably is going to be the last opportunity we get to see this machine in action.

[00:07:25]There's a guy in there getting debris out of the entrance.

[00:07:36]Looks like they're almost done pumping the water out, getting to the bottom of the barrel. so to speak.

[00:07:43]Quite amazing how there's only a little bit of bank there from the brook stopping water from going in. I'm surprised no water leaks in. Maybe it does.

[00:07:55]It could perhaps be leaky water from the brook coming in and not water coming through the culvert. But it doesn't explain where all the water went when it got washed through the culvert yesterday.

[00:08:36]This will be the first time I actually catch it being set up fully.

[00:15:24]One of the batteries is not fully charged. You see, I didn't get back till like well 4:00. No, quart to 5 yesterday cuz he had to go Audi then Grinley and the fish and chips cuz he hadn't eaten anything all day apart from a few tanktastics from Joe.

[00:15:41]Thanks that Joe. We didn't expected to be there so long. But um yeah, one of the batteries isn't charged because they charge so incredibly slow. Um so this is why I can't charge them on the go because they just take hours to charge.

[00:15:57]had it on all night.

[00:16:02]That's a bit annoying, but uh I have to buy buy myself a couple of new charging stations maybe so I can charge them quicker. So, it only charges one at a time. You can free in the charging station, but only charges one at a time.

[00:16:17]Anyway, let's get back to the Gulver and see what's happening then.

[00:21:08]One thing being it's way too small of diameter.

[00:21:15]Whereas the actual cover on the canal is well I don't even know maybe two foot diameter.

[00:21:25]So it looks like a clay pipe to me.

[00:21:30]But I was thinking, you know, when did we start using these clay pipes? But we've used them for centuries.

[00:21:38]Turns out we've been using them since the 1600s here in England. But uh so I can't really determine when it was put in place. You know, I was hoping it say they were popular in the 1950s or something. Then you could say that's most likely it was put in place by whoever owned the land then.

[00:22:11]So it well and truly could be an original canal feature cuz of course this banking was built around I want to say 1814.

[00:22:22]I think they built this section of canal down to Grimley Brook and to the shops Union Canal.

[00:22:31]So yeah, it could be 1814, but I I don't think it's original. It's too much of a bodgege job.

[00:22:46]So, he's getting some silt out of the way at the minute.

[00:22:52]It does look like it's unblocked, though, to me.

[00:23:04]While they're doing that, have a quick look over I just got an alert. Manned aircraft.

[00:24:07]We've really not much left to go. I do wonder though, are they going to do the other side of the stream there where the lake was at its deepest?

[00:24:32]That's going to be interesting cuz there isn't too much left to do in front of the bridge. As you can see, you can see that the small excavator has reluctantly come back to work.

[00:24:53]But he's uh manipulating the soil over there and sand and turning that into a nice neat pile.

[00:25:23]Still clearing the silt out. Obviously, when that jet goes through, it blasts out whatever muck is in that culvert and it has to go somewhere, doesn't it?

[00:27:57]I mean, unless I can somehow get access tomorrow when I go on site, but I really don't see that happening.

[00:28:58]Okay guys, we are looking at 20 past 9 now. So, it won't be long and these guys will be going on their break.

[00:29:08]If it's anything like usual, it's probably about half 9 they go on their break and they come back about half 10 or or quart 10. It really does depend.

[00:29:24]But yeah, excavator and dumpers are still getting along with that field quite nicely. Yeah, it does look like they are done with unblocking that cover now. They've still not returned back down there, unless they just done a break.

[00:30:17]There's really quite the uh lump of sand and soil now, isn't it, Guys, small excavator has to get out the way, of course, so the dumper can get in there and uh dump his load.

[00:30:55]Well, it's 20 to 10 now, guys, and they still haven't stopped. So, it still is the same amount well length of time in their break, which ends up being about 45 minutes, sometimes an hour.

[00:31:06]Um, so obviously they just come back off of break later, but they're just getting on with uh clearing this field still.

[00:31:18]really are getting this done nice and quickly because uh yeah, you never know. Excitingly, they might start excavating the embankment soon, guys.

[00:31:33]Yeah, the future is looking very exciting here down at the Kling Canal Bridge here in Witcharch.

[00:31:42]And uh yeah, I'm very excited to see what happens next after this field is cleared because the drills are done and of course we had to see the results back from those drills, but we know the plans now of how they're going to repair the embankment.

[00:31:58]So yeah, it's all very exciting.

[00:36:43]Not sure why someone didn't use this. So I say it's bodgege a bigger diameter pipe. Wouldn't that make more sense than two? Yeah, there you go. You can clearly see that there is two pipes there and the water is flowing freely through it.

[00:42:47]This one's only got about 27% battery in it. So, I'm just using it quickly and I've only got one left full fully charged after that. So, two batteries didn't really charge last night. So, uh let's try and find a faster charger. The only trouble is I charge them with 12vt guys in the boat cuz if I had the inverter on to to power a fast charger, it um yeah, drains the batteries in the boat.

[00:43:13]So, there is one fast charger in the boat and there's 12 VT and I have to use that.

[00:43:23]But, um, yeah, it's cuz I got back so late, but I'm not intending to stay as late today, guys.

[00:43:31]You know, that was just it was too much for me yesterday. I tried doing my weights last night, but I was just too exhausted to even do my weights. It's mental exhaustion. and literally do not stop for about eight or nine hours.

[00:43:45]Um, yeah, it's it's tough work mentally.

[00:43:50]And today I intend to go on a 12mi walk, just get some good exercise and uh clear my mind. Walking is like medicine for me. Really does help out with my mental health.

[00:44:18]It looks like they know one of them's unblocked, but maybe the other one's not so lucky at the minute.

[00:45:45]Let's head down to the culver and uh see what's happening down there.

[00:46:05]I think I did hear the machine come on about 5 10 minutes ago, but I just needed to finish up editing.

[00:46:35]Looks like he's taking the camera back up.

[00:46:40]Looks like it's quite a heavy piece of equipment.

[00:46:54]Got the steps they could do with a slope.

[00:47:01]So yeah, if the camera's going back up, then we can practically say with 80% confidence that um the coverts are on blocks and they are I imagine packing up packing up now guys.

[00:47:22]We can see the entrance or exit um to the culvert and the two tubes there very clearly now.

[00:47:33]Basically hardly any water running out.

[00:47:37]I assume at some point they're going to excavate this little bit of bank that remains so it can join Lily to uh the brook down there.

[00:47:54]So, let's head back down to the field now. We got a bit more action going on of the field being excavated, which as you can see, it's coming along very nicely.

[00:48:12]And uh there really isn't too much left to do.

[00:48:17]I would think this would be finished today.

[00:48:22]Yeah. Well, still very early, isn't it?

[00:48:26]Yeah. Yeah, I should think it'll be done.

[00:48:31]Obviously, they're not staying for too long today, guys.

[00:48:38]I'll allow them to just get on with this in peace and finish it up. Obviously, the very exciting stuff with clearing the culver is over now.

[00:48:59]So, um, yeah, I'm not going to stay too much longer, but it's still a very long video for you guys because a lot of stuff has happened this morning. We're kicking off right away as soon as I got down here at 8:00.

[00:52:47]There's been some talk exactly how many scoops or bucket loads of uh saw they actually put in the back of one of these 11 ton dumpers. So, let's have a little look again now and uh see how many go in.

[00:53:49]free. So, I just noticed that workers actually just found a piece of sheet piling that was buried in the sand. Look at that.

[00:54:21]Oh, compacting it down. So, that's probably it. Now, it does vary on how much he gets in the bucket.

[00:54:36]So, I guess it can be from five to six bucket loads.

[00:54:44]He just plays it by eye, I guess, and uh sees when it's full.

[00:54:53]So, now that we know the coverts are unblocked and they're continuing to excavate this field for the rest of the day by the looks of it, I think we can safely cap this video here. It's a pretty hefty one, pretty long one, and I don't think anything else too exciting is going to happen today.
