Curiosity Found Something on Mars. Seven Somethings.

[00:00:00]the curiosity rover just detected seven organic molecules on Mars that had never been found there before the seven molecules include ammonia ethanol and acetic acid carbon based compounds that on earth are associated with biological processes though all can also form through non biological chemistry the molecules were found in Gale Crater an ancient lake bed where liquid water existed 3.5 billion years ago if Mars ever had life this is among the most probable locations but know that NASA is clear these molecules do not confirm life organic compounds can also form through geology and chemistry with no biology required the question is simply whether biology was involved or not several of the seven molecules are not easily explained by known non biological Martian chemistry they are not confirmation of life they are just a question that requires an answer we have been asking whether Mars ever had life for decades these seven molecules are not the answer but they are the closest we have come to knowing we are asking the right questions subscribe to our world and beyond the Mars story is not finished and we will be here when it breaks
