Patton's US third army would sweep north from Argenton while Krrorer's first Canadian army drove south from Khan toward FileZ. Two armies closing like a vice with the bulk of two German field armies caught between them.

The roads around FileZ became one of the war's most harrowing grounds, destroyed vehicles, dead horses, abandoned guns stretching for miles. The escaped men carried almost no heavy equipment, but they were experienced soldiers. They'd be reconstituted, re-equipped, and put back on the line, fighting at the Rine, contributing to the Arden's offensive, prolonging the war into 1945.
