In competitive sports, maintaining high performance requires continuous psychological engagement; when teams achieve sub-goals or feel secure, complacency can set in, causing them to lose the discipline and intensity needed for success, especially in high-pressure situations where nerves and passivity can lead to poor decision-making and missed opportunities.

Worse than Last Season: Bravo Milan!Added:
It's a joke.
>> Let's be clear. We're technically ending the season technically speaking, I would say, worse off than last year. Uh, seven points better. That's that's that's the points difference. We have seven points more than finishing eighth last season.
And when I say last season was actually better, uh, in my opinion now, which which is unfathomable to think having a leg and investing in what we invested again, we invested it wrong. We spent money blah blah blah blah because last year we had the hope of doing better. We still won a trophy and we're still at a Champions League. Yes, we have Europa League this year whereas we didn't last year, but we weren't far off getting Europa League last year either and we don't want that. So, objectively for me, last this season's worse. We're actually in a worse position. We are in a worse position. Um, >> it feels it's in a worse position because um two things for me well three things for me. You didn't have Europe.
>> Yeah.
>> At all. So you were just focused on.
>> So the fact you still couldn't get over the line with that is just inexcusable.
>> Um we it's now a it's different when your first year when you're out of Champions League and you can still kind of offset some of those costs. It's now back to back. So going into this summer is going to be a lot worse than it was going into last summer which >> you know, [ __ ] me. Like we were kicking and screaming because Ryan's got sold last year. It's going to be a hell of a lot worse. let alone the fact that probably some players are going to just going to want to move anyway. Liao, Pulisic etc. Um and uh there was a third bit as well. Um I think there was in relation to into the players as well and you know the players are surrounded there. Do they still want to be here? Because one year out of it okay cool two years out of it starting to pick up steam that this is perhaps you know your future of of you being at Milan. This is what this most you can achieve which is playing in Europa which is [ __ ] disgraceful man.
It's your voice, mate. And then, sorry, and then the last bit is the fact that we had, you know, we've been in top four since I said to you before this video, mate, since since the end of September.
Have not dropped out of the top four.
And they they do it on the last day, mate. On the last day.
It's it's it's so disgraceful. It's so disgraceful. choice.
>> I think um >> need worse because it's the [ __ ] like last year we were just you know consistently crap. How do you not finish in top four when you have a 24 game unbeaten streak?
>> 100%. They're the longest unbeaten streak in Europe. Yes, you know most of them were draws which was part of the reason why we got to where we were. But ultimately we were a hard team to beat from August to February. And uh we did the quarter perfectly. no plan B from Allegree, which I'm sure we'll get on to, but ultimately uh we're sat here, right, and we're just thinking not only is it Project Zero all over again, not only will those players leave, um which you might say is a good thing, you might say it's a bad thing. I I still maintain that no reality outside of Champions League is better than inside of Champions League. But the the the biggest thing for me is that last season we were the narrative changed right Steph like we didn't really know what to expect you had FCA coming out saying we're going to win the league like that was ridiculous in you know hindsight but ultimately we were just kind of taking it game by game trying to just you know claw results and see if we can land in top four. The difference with this season is the narrative behind top four being our objective was never shied away from. It was the bare minimum. It was spoken about from the moment Algri joined until yesterday. They protected themselves against the Sugetto. I said it in the postmatch yesterday. You had the management protecting Allegri Allegrew protecting the players and the players protecting themselves. No one talked about the league because deep down, yes, whether or not they were trying for it behind closed doors, which I'm sure they were when we were chasing, it was never spoken about. But what was spoken about was top four. And that gives the impression that not necessarily it's in the bag, but there's maybe an error, not even an air of arrogance, but there's an air of expectation that top four is and always will be what we're going to achieve this season. So, the fact that they made a point of that and we didn't achieve it. That's another reason why it hurts more than last year because last year there wasn't that expectation, there wasn't that we're going to get top four, don't worry about it, that's what we're focusing on. And like you said, mate, the fact that we did not have Europe to contend with, we've had one game a season and we've had the same objective all year with a winning coach supposedly with backing, which again, you can argue if he had the right backing or not, he didn't, but it doesn't matter. I still think we had enough to get top four. You look at the unbeaten streak and then look at the the the loss streak that we had to end the season and you just think, "Yeah, this is really bad. This is like really really bad." Um before I hand it back to you, I just want to just say one quote from Allegri's postmatch conference and I think this is the issue that has probably plagued us. Um probably for years I would say Steph and maybe it's tied to certain players potentially. We're going to find out because a lot of those are going to go now. I'm talking about the mics the layouts of the world for example. But he said he answered it after uh the question you know were the goals that we conceded avoidable and he said the nerves played a big part in this match.
We were too passive we were too nervous and we couldn't manage it. So you're telling me we have a group of players that couldn't manage and couldn't deal with the pressure of winning their last game at home to get top four. That's basically what that tells me. Is that normal? I don't think that's normal, mate. I don't believe that level of pressure, if that's true or not, is normal.
>> No. No. Yeah. I think it's it's ridiculous, man. I I I actually disagree with that comment, though. I think if you look at how we've >> agreed, you mean?
>> Yeah. I I complet I think he's he's deflecting it into the particular game as opposed to the games that >> um the games that came before it. I think the issue is more to do with complacency this year in the games where there's been pressure and high jeopardy >> in games where we've beaten into home and Norway you know it's the same [ __ ] stadium but it's you know what I mean >> in the games we've beaten you know Roma Napoli at sier undefeated against Juventus you know how bad those games were but you didn't come away with those L's >> they stepped up in big name games yeah >> y >> when it came to seeing out the season though complacency because when the objectives were no longer there in front of them i.e. the unbeaten run went because of PMA on a shock defeat at home.
>> Yeah, very true.
>> Complacency kicked in because then okay when you have a you have a like a subobjective you go okay you know there's something for us to work against here because regardless of like you know when a lot you can laugh the unbeaten run and and the fact there was there were there were a few draws in there. It wasn't a lot of draw there wasn't like you know it wasn't more draws than wins.
Let's be serious about it. There were a good amount of wins there, but it's still to kind of be that you're hard to beat. And that we spoke about it many times in like December, January, February about that starting point of a game going into it going, >> you probably know that we're not going to lose it, which is so powerful when it comes to a game of football because look at how Arsenal utilize that when they've won the league this year. I'm not comparing us and them, but the similarities are there because you built off a structure of discipline and hard work rate and commitment and defensiveness. Yeah. Once that got went, it was, okay, all right, so we don't really need to chase that unbeaten run anymore, so we can play a bit more differently. And I think this is what went through the players minds. I think they didn't dial into that discipline anymore. Yeah. And that then went another level after the Napoli game, after the Napoli loss, which effectively said, we're out of the any chance here to win this league.
>> Let's just kind of wind down the season.
>> And what you get there is eight games inclusive of Napoli, six losses, obviously. Five losses a draw and two wins by a onegoal margin against Welas Ferrane and Jenna that it for me is not because you can look at those games you can look at like the loss against Ordini at home 3-0 you can look at Sasual away you can look at Atlanta at home in those games it wasn't as if okay if we lose this we're out last game of the season you know [ __ ] laser beam on earth like who's going to defend the earth from the alien sort of thing it wasn't that they looked at those games and they were like, "Ah, we can lose, but there's always next week.
