Judge grants request to toss out DOJ lawsuit for Maine's voter information

[00:00:00]Here's some big news here in Maine today. Maine's chief judge dismissed the Trump administration's probe into Maine's voter rolls. The suit sought to force state officials here to hand over sensitive voter information. For example, birthdays, partial social numbers, driver's license numbers, basically Maine's complete voter list.

[00:00:17]So, chief US district judge Lance Walker granted Maine's request to toss out that DOJ suit. By the way, he's the seventh judge to do so. Also today in Wisconsin, a federal judge there, James Peterson, he also dismissed request into the state's unredacted voter information today. In Walker from Maine in his dismissal, he says the United States request would have required him to turn a blind eye to the traditional practices of federalism. Walker is a Trump appointed judge whose Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows called a straight shooter today in an interview. President Trump previously raised allegations of voter fraud in Maine and other US elections. Maine is one of a handful of states, by the way, where the federal government's effort to secure voter registration list has been unsuccessful.
