🐻 Roosevelt Goes to Trial in Marquette

[00:00:00]In May 1913, former President  Theodore Roosevelt arrived in Marquette, Michigan to defend his honor.

[00:00:06]TR criticized local Republicans in October 1912, and a local editor wrote that he  was a liar, drunk, and cursed.

[00:00:14]TR brought 25 prominent men to testify to his sobriety and won his case after the  defense issued a dramatic retraction.

[00:00:21]He accepted six cents in damages,  stating that he did not seek money but only wished to legally clear his reputation.
