Animals have evolved various physical and behavioral adaptations to survive in their environments, such as hippos secreting a protective substance from their skin that acts as moisturizer, antiseptic, and sunblock, and zebras developing strong teeth and fast running speeds to escape predators; these adaptations help animals meet their basic needs for food, shelter, and protection from threats.
