I Changed the Plan for the Shower House

[00:00:24]Good morning, guys. It's been a while since we sat on the porch and had a coffee together and it's tasting mighty fine. Some big decisions have been made.

[00:00:32]Uh we're going to switch up and change the uh showerhouse. I'll show you that in a second. Also, I've had a ton of people asking me about when we're getting on the cabin. I'm not waiting for anything anymore. All the papers have been uh filed and signed off. I can actually start working on the cabin. I could have started working on the cabin a little while ago, but let's go over there and I'll show you and I'll explain why I have to get these other projects going first before we start on the cabin. We're going to put a roof over this. I was only going to put a roof over the shower and just leave that open. One of the big things that has to go to put a roof on this tree has to go, which is not a bad thing because it's leaning pretty hard to the cabin and it will open up my view. Okay. Also, guys, something I never really showed you in the last video. These rocks are here for a purpose. The stove is going to be sitting here and the woodshed is there.

[00:01:25]I'll be backing trailers in or I'll be driving around here. The last thing I want to do is hit that stove. So, that's why these big rocks are here and I'm going to put another big one right here.

[00:01:35]So, once this project's done, we are getting back on the woodshed. Uh, with the wood the last couple of years, it's been out in boxes under tarps. Man, it's a disaster when your wood is damp and stuff. It's so hard to burn. And when it's minus 20, 30, that's not pleasant trying to keep a fire going. Let's get milling. Let's get the boards for this.

[00:04:17]Okay, guys. I went back to the mill. I milled up three more.

[00:04:23]Um, but I left a big piece of lumber on the mill. It's like whatever I need.

[00:04:28]It's just like walk over, measure it, and cut it. It's all squared up and everything. So, um, but I'm not sure I'm going to have enough. But man, it hasn't stopped. Like, it gets sunny, it rains on and off all day. But I'm not complaining because we have quite the lumber pile here. I think it's time to start putting this together. All right, guys. Let's set the posts in place and see what we're working with here.

[00:05:06]Now, the biggest headache is this trees got to go post. I'm going to temporarily screw them down. And then I'm going to take these, cut them to size, set them on top this way. One there, one there. And then we're going to run beams this way.

[00:05:24]And then from the center of this up, we'll run another post and another post up to the top beam.

[00:05:34]Never built this before, but I have a vision. Hopefully, it's a good one.

[00:06:04]So that allows me to not worry about these falling over on me, But I'm going to have to deal with this first. The um the tree. I'm going to have to cut it down. No choice.

[00:07:27]All right, that gets it out of the way for the day. Get it back up and running.

[00:08:41]one of these beams and have a look and see what we got going on here. Now, of course, I'll cut these down.

[00:09:02]Okay, all the posts are set plum and they're pretty good. I just went around with the tape. Um, it's about a quarter of an inch out. I'm not going to worry about it too much. Quarter quarter of an inch. It's actually pretty good. Where's the center mark?

[00:09:30]Okay, I guess perfect.

[00:09:37]Okay, guys. I need to determine now the height I want this center piece. I'm thinking two feet.

[00:11:10]That's it for the mill. So, the 2x4s, those are the rafters. There's the one by three and a halfs, whatever they were. So, that's it. Let's go build this and get it done.

[00:11:23]As you can see, everything is in place.

[00:11:25]Uh, even figured out the rafters. Now that everything's up, what I want to do is I'll show you. I want to go around and fasten all this stuff. And also, I want to get some something into the bottom so that this thing doesn't fall over. So, the plan is to use these galvanized leg bolts to go through. I'm going to drill with this and then I'll see what happens. And if I have to, I'll take this other drill bit and go up because I don't want any of this splitting.

[00:12:19]So, the good news is I don't have to drill. I just want to pre-drill the first one I'm going through and that'll be it.

[00:12:31]Okay. Okay, now that we have all of the bolts in, it's pretty sturdy. I'm going to take some of the bracing off so I don't have to keep walking around it.

[00:12:38]Get rid of this.

[00:12:45]Okay. Okay. So, the plan is to start cutting the rafters. I'll get them cut and then I'll show you how we're going to do it. For the tin to line up, we want to come out. We're going to come out eight inches with these. And then the tin can overhang, right? Let's do that.

[00:13:06]So, two, four, and then right here with about 8 in.

[00:13:22]and just cut that off there.

[00:13:29]I got everything cut and what I did, I paired them up. So, I just took the 12footers, cut them in half, and I'll put each end that I cut so they'll go together so they're the same thickness and stuff. Cuz there's a couple that are a little bit thinner. And there's one here that's really thick. This one here, I just got to the end of the board.

[00:13:50]instead of cutting it down to inch and a half, it's like just 2 in. So, I'll put that in the center one. So, what we're going to do is we're going to go up, set them all, and then we have to make some I think they're called gusset plates.

[00:14:01]Don't quote me on that, but anyway, out of plywood, and then we screw them in. And then we're going to put a couple of supports across, too.

[00:14:09]So, let's get up, try one, and see how it works out. Double check that. Make sure. Yeah, 8 in.

[00:14:18]Okay, let's get chainsaw and cut this.

[00:15:40]So, with all the marks, it's easy to line this up. And this screw is only just holding this stuff temporarily into place until I get the uh gusset things made up.

[00:16:08]Okay, guys. Some scrap plywood laying around. So, what we're going to do, clean that up here.

[00:20:51]All right, guys. This turned out pretty amazing. Other than a few tweaks here and there, we're going to add a few things, couple cross braces, some corner pieces. I can't believe these were round logs and this is finished in 2 days. We got to get on to the tub. We got to get the shower finished cuz the woodshed's got to go. It really has to because the material, the insulation, all the stuff for the cabin is on its way because we're going to hit that and we're going to hit it hard because we want to get the cabin finished and then we can start doing all the beautiful finishes inside there. And I'm really looking forward to that. So, once that woodshed's done, off to the cabin we go.
