In television storytelling, character deaths often serve as catalysts for multiple interconnected plot developments, including hospital drama, crime investigations, and personal relationship changes. When a character like Derek Baldwin dies, it creates ripple effects throughout the narrative, affecting various storylines simultaneously. The return of a character (such as Doug McBride) introduces new mysteries and theories, with viewers analyzing details like physical changes (new lineup, beard) to determine whether the character is a ghost or has been resurrected. This narrative technique allows writers to explore themes of grief, justice, and redemption while advancing multiple character arcs at once.

Doug McBride is Back, Deanna Continues to Rebel and Samantha Gets her Crown | Beyond The Gates RecapAdded:
Derek's death is really gonna kick off a lot of different things. Is this really >> So now I have to put my analytical hat on.
>> I'm going to say no.
>> Now if he's not a ghost, then I'm here for it.
>> If you would have told us Derek was going to die a year ago, >> probably wouldn't have thought it would have affected so many people.
>> You know, damn. I was just starting to ride with him, you know, and and him dying a hero and being such a good guy.
She was like, I got braced. I'm so hurt.
She had the sling and everything. Deanna McBride is officially my favorite character. Jessica is going to college in California and now we see why. Cuz her [ __ ] parents suck. Hey gatekeepers, we want to hear all of your theories and hot takes on the show. So make sure you call our hotline 4434573179 and be a part of the show. Hey y'all.
Welcome back to Lovingham Gates, a Beyond the Gates weekly podcast where Bryant Hutters and Queen PR dissects the latest episodes of the new hit show Beyond the Gates. We'll break down all the plot twist, character arcs, and iconic moments with our unique perspectives and a whole lot of love.
Hello everyone. Welcome back to Love & Gates. I'm Queen PR.
>> I'm Brian H. Waters. Wow, you came in super excited.
>> Yes.
>> I don't know if we supposed to be excited. I mean, we've mourned >> the loss of our good buddy. Yes.
>> But now we got to get into the nitty-gritty.
>> We got to get into the nitty-gritty.
Yes, we do. Check out our episode about third Baldwin.
>> Mhm.
>> In the comments.
>> Um, and that's why we're that's why we're wearing black.
>> Yeah. Um, >> so now it's been a couple days. I'm wondering how you process cuz >> you was shook us as we said on Instagram. Loving them gates. Uh, shout out to shout out to all the new Instagram followers.
>> Yes, appreciate your support.
>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. U, we'll definitely shout out we we'll have a moment to to give love to to everything because it's been a really exciting week in fair exciting. It's been a very eventful >> week in Fairmont Crest. So, how I'm processing I'm still not processing at all. And you know, you mentioned in the Derek episode that we did that Derek's death is really going to kick off a lot of different things.
>> Um, between the hospital, between the crime ring, between everything, right?
>> Yeah.
>> So, um, I kind of want to get into Ashley.
>> Or do you want to start with with with the ghost?
>> The ghost? Yes.
>> Well, we don't know if he's a ghost.
>> We >> we don't know he's a ghost. So, we had we lost a main character on Wednesday and one came back to life on Friday. So, we like I'm still shook even about that.
>> Mhm.
>> So, do you think he's a ghost? Is is this is this really >> So, now I have to put my analytical hat on. Right.
I'm going to say no.
>> Mhm. And the reason why I'm going say he's not a ghost is he had a new lineup.
Fresh lineup.
>> That's true.
>> Uh different type of beard. And I feel like >> he had a very interesting mustache happening.
>> Yeah. I feel like a ghost would have came back looking exactly the way.
>> Yeah.
>> Um now I'm like, okay, I could also say, okay, he appeared to Deanna. We don't know what he looked like to Deanna, but I just feel that he would have came in a dream, >> you know, but but also like why would he want to hurt his baby girl, >> right?
>> Well, I don't even think it's like hurt his baby girl. Wait, when you say that mean like fake his death?
>> Yeah. No, no, fake coming back.
>> All right, let me get a little personal here.
always said to like my mother like, "Yo, you gom, thank you." No, you know, she said that one time about my grandfather. She was starting to smell his scent heavy and she said, "Daddy, I love you, but I don't need to see you."
>> And >> so I think, and I know this is real life, and this is TV, this is fiction, but I don't think Doug would do that.
But then also, what if that's just her manifestation of him because she's grieving?
>> That's the, >> you know, like that's how I I so I do think it's a ghost.
>> I do think he's a ghost. Also, because his aura like felt like um like kind of fuzzy like they put like an like something where he didn't feel like real cuz even a lot >> Okay. Okay.
>> A lot. We rewinded that. the gatekeepers was like, "Yeah, I had to re rewind that at the end." But he looked a little like he wasn't there fully and also like they didn't touch or anything like that. He just said her name. And then I could see her even I can see Monday's episode like opening with her just like and then like going about her business or some [ __ ] like that. Like I'm just saying now if he's not a ghost then I'm here for it because and someone even said like let the revenge tour begin cuz I'm like yeah cuz imagine he teams up with um Deanna cuz you know Deanna don't give no [ __ ] at all about any any of this stuff. You know Joey her mom all that.
>> She's a daddy's girl.
>> She's a daddy's girl. She's still mourning. You know it's only been what less than a year since his death if you think about it cuz I'm like the anniversary party was a year ago. Yeah.
So that means Doug, you know, that was like >> we was already recording by the time cuz we did a celebration of Doug's life >> and it's like where did Doug go wrong?
Go back and check that out if you're new to the Love and Them Gates community.
>> You know what? Something also though, what if Deanna isn't the first person he appeared to, >> right?
Think about Darnell's >> switch up >> on Joey Armstrong. That's true. We've never seen an aggressive version. And I know you have been saying for the longest time like they're twins.
>> It doesn't make sense that one is there, one isn't. They aren't really helping each other. Right.
>> And then yeah, I do believe that your twin sibling is going to be the person that you are going that will have the most influence >> no matter which person does more of the leading or whatever, right? So eventually Darnell was going to take into consideration, >> right?
>> But the way he's doing it, >> I'm like, >> yeah, cuz even Joey's like, "Wait, you know, like I thought me and you was on the same page kind of." Uh, I was thinking more Randy because Randy >> was the one that was supposed to kill him and that's like his friend, you know, or maybe Randy didn't really kill him and, you know, so there's a lot of different possibilities.
>> How do you think that would fair for the the gatekeepers? Because, you know, Randy kind of catches a lot of flag >> from me >> sometimes. Do you think gatekeepers would feel different towards Randy >> and and maybe kind of love him more if he helped Doug?
>> Oh, definitely. Oh, definitely. I think I would too because you rebelled against Joey and you know how I feel about his dynamic with Joey.
Like it's like I understand that he's your boss, but like also like you're just too like >> Yeah. Yes, sir. Whatever you say.
>> He's outsmarting Joey. if he and I would have so much respect for him if he actually was. So >> that's probably why he didn't go to the funeral.
>> Yeah, could Oh, could be. Oh, that would definitely change my opinion already for sure if he helped stay alive.
>> We talking about funerals.
>> Yeah.
>> Before I let this question go >> for Derek, >> who doing the body?
>> Damn.
Uh yeah, that's coming next week.
>> Yeah. If they show us if they show >> Derek in the casket.
>> I hope not. Okay. Can we talk about some fan theories? So, some people were some gatekeepers were saying that Doug might be the impaler. M >> I don't I don't see it make that making sense because the impaler is supposed to be like someone really dangerous and like I feel like somebody with a little bit more crime experience and we all know like Doug kind of got himself caught up. So I don't think he's capable of being the impaler. He's probably not capable of the impeller, but he could be. Remember, he said Leah is so low >> on the chain, >> right? Derek, I mean, Doug could be a few steps higher, >> but how did he manage to get himself caught up? Or maybe he could be involved. Maybe he's not the impaler, >> but maybe he's involved because he is a medical professional and he also still has that debt to pay. That's what, you know, so yeah, maybe >> that could be a possibility. But how about um >> what's his name? Not Rashad, but the other guy said, "Man, I'm about to be out of here with a wagoo and a batty in a few minutes."
>> I just thought a lot of gatekeepers love that line.
>> That was a good one.
>> But I'm so glad we talk about character deaths. I'm so glad that we could put a rest of Rashad.
>> Yes. Yes. Because that accent was >> Come on, man. Yeah.
Where's the I can't even do it. I really I'm so bad with accents and like I don't even know what that was. He was on a live with the the rest of the Hawthorne family. He called it southern Atlanta.
>> Okay. Okay.
>> accent. And I was just like, okay. I thought he I thought he was going for Baltimore accent, honestly.
Like a little DMV action. But it was it was bad. But I'm glad he's back home with Naomi even though it's going to be really tough for them, you know, losing Derek. But I am so glad that Alisa's life is going back to somewhat normaly for Naomi's sake >> cuz we've been sympathizing for my girl cuz she's been going through she's holding a lot. She's going through a lot. She has, you know, her job and, you know, it's it's a lot going on in Naomi.
But I'm I'm glad that they're back together.
>> Yeah, me too. Me too. I'm glad they're back together. Um, another theory um that people brought up or may hope I'm also hoping that this happens is that um Derek's evil twin makes like and I think it's just us like not wanting to let go >> Yeah.
>> of Derek. Shout out to um the actor because we all grew Yes. Ben. Yes.
>> Amazing performance. We all grew to love him.
>> Yeah. And that was a lot of the consensus I got on um on the socials on YouTube from other gatekeepers was just like, you know, damn, I was just starting to ride with him, you know, and and him dying a hero and being such a good guy.
>> So, you know, that that guilt. Uh I joked about Jan >> in our episode of just like somebody check on her because that was her bestie and she, you know, she came to check on Ashley. Of course, >> that's where Mona comes in and the her crew at Orphe Jeans. This is where they come in to, like you said, this shakes up the foundation. And Derek's death, I think, is one of those that >> if you would have told us Derek was going to die a year ago, >> probably wouldn't have thought it would have affected so many people, right? You know, but I mean you think like you said thinking about Jan and she loved him and then >> that conversation with Grayson was so weird.
>> Yeah. I Yeah, cuz I was like, "Why are you talking to him?" Like when she was like, "Oh my god, you care I can see how much you care about Ashley." And it just reminds me of Derek.
Who says that to their girlfriend's current boyfriend about their ex fiance that just died and it's lowkey his fault.
>> Like it was just so weird like that that entire even Grayson just coming over I think was just like bro.
>> It was so on brand though.
>> True.
>> It was so on brand for Grayson, >> you know. And then of course everybody wanted Grayson to die which I think is good writing you know.
>> Absolutely. Shout out to the writers uh for this one because I you know I really hoped >> that when they wrote this and then when they when it aired >> that they took time to in basket celebrate themselves because >> this was a great week of television.
>> Great week actors everyone. It was phenomenal job.
>> But that was such like you know everybody wanted Grayson to go but now we'll see him hopefully suffer.
>> Yeah. And Ashley I'm so glad that she rebuked him.
>> Keep it that way. that is someone that you want to keep far away from you. Like it's just too much drama right now. Um speaking of collateral, you know, just everything that happens after Derek's death, the hospital.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh Garland Hospital now the chief of staff has is literally probably going to go to jail pretty soon. Um or witness protection or some or some [ __ ] like that. So now it's like who's going to be >> she going to milk that to stay in the hospital?
>> Yeah.
>> Oh my my my nerve inside of my shoulder hurts.
>> Yep. because she know what like language to use for them to keep her. Like you see they didn't take her to the station, they took her to the hospital.
>> Um I mean I guess going to your home turf in a situation like this is probably makes you feel like a little safe in that moment. So that's kudos to you girl, >> right?
>> She was like I got braced so she had the sling and everything. Um but now it's like who's going to replace her, you know, in in that role. We see Ted advocating for Nicole. was he advocating?
>> Yes. So, the dupri are on the board of because of course they are on the board of of Garland Hospital. So, now they're like, "Okay, before we meet with the rest of the board, >> let's consult with Ted and just see, you know, you know, where we are with it."
And they want um Chenise's aunt, Dr. Monica, and and and she came up in conversations before that we've had about who can become chief of staff. And um and he was like, "No, it should be Nicole." Do you think that he's just saying that to like, you know, try to look good in front of the D priest or do you think he feels like Nicole should be chief of staff of the >> No, I totally feels like I I feel like he is thinks she should be that. I don't think he's trying to save face.
>> Mhm. because I think he knows like in this sense Nicole doesn't want to do it but I think it's one of those things it's like he's kind of pushing like no you're better than what you really think you are and I really think you should do this uh you know we see in the preview where she goes are you out of your mind >> and it's like again on brand >> big job >> yeah but I really do think he believes she is the best person for the job and I think he's like kind of like trying to push her to like >> really go for it because he knows That's probably best in his head, >> right?
>> And that's probably more so he doesn't >> and she's capable >> want to endorse Monica.
>> Yeah. Cuz that's that could be messy for him.
>> Yeah. So if if he comes out endorsing her like, "Oh, you really trying to push your your love interest, girlfriend aunt." But I do think he I do think >> I agree. I don't think he Yeah, I don't think And honestly, we've seen like his intentions right now are to get back with Chenise. Mhm.
>> We, you know, that's what he's expressed. So, even though >> she talk she and then she got mad that he recommended Nicole talked to like she just >> Yeah, that was Yeah, >> this is over.
>> It's Yeah. And I think now with her grieving Derek's death and the whole shakeup with the hospital just from like a workplace Yeah.
>> Just from like a workplace standpoint, like everything is shaken up. Like imagine like you went back to your job and like found out like your boss was a low-key criminal and now she's about to go to jail and that resulted in one of your best friends getting murdered. Like that's just a whole >> situation I think like right now maybe her relationship ain't what she really needs to be focus her on right now. You know, especially even if Nicole becomes chief of staff, that's kind of like something she's going to have to deal with, you know, whether her aunt becomes. So, I think Chenise right now needs to focus on Chenise.
>> Yeah.
>> And I think Ted needs to get back with a call.
>> Well, we'll see.
>> That's that's my that's my my my take.
But, um I do think it's unfair for the the priest to assume that that's what Ted wants to do because it I feel like that you also are kind of taken away from like your daughter's capabilities in a way.
>> Yeah. That that was weird. So that was weird that y'all like you were they were like they kept just saying like Monica Monica Monica Monica >> you know but maybe they also know what like the chief of staff of a hospital I'm imagining is a very demanding you know a position that you just don't take lightly and that's probably why she was like she's just like a therapist like an in-house therapist and now you want me to be [ __ ] chief of staff >> you know but we don't know maybe she'll change her mind but I do think that he was genuine about that for sure.
>> Absolutely.
>> Yeah. Do you think Chenise um is gonna ease up at some point or >> she's gonna have a breaking point?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. And I think Ted gonna be there, but I do think it's still over. But I do think he's going to be there when she, you know, she's going to have that damn damn damn moment. We saw Ashley sort of have her breaking point, you know, with Andre and Danny. Uh and shout out to Andre, man. That was brilliant. Danny, you come with me. That way don't leave.
No. And >> yeah, Danny Dri is confident. She's probably more confident in this marriage than she was ever with Bill.
>> Yep.
>> But Andre ain't stupid.
>> He's not. But also knowing that she knows Ashley >> Mhm.
>> And Ashley could probably use some support cuz also he's riddled with guilt.
>> Yeah.
>> So you see he was struggling even talking about it. Good thing Danny was there. [ __ ] cuz him and Ashley probably would have just been crying together and and I don't know we probably would have finally took her to Paris. Um hey yo >> that that's my euphemism for hitting that >> space mountain as they say in wrestling >> took her to Paris.
>> Um but yeah, I do think even just for Ashley's sake cuz like I said she's familiar with like she's a motherly figure or an old I don't say older figure.
>> No, you said it right though.
>> But like in Ashley's life. So I think it's just good also sometimes it's better to like let go emotionally with someone you're not as close to sometimes where it's like okay mom like you know you know especially cuz it's like she's a lot with director like she's basically just as upset as Ashley is. So it's like Danny is kind of like an outside person that she knows or feels comfortable and safe with.
>> Um so yeah like you said brilliant brilliant idea Andre for real for real.
And I feel bad for him too cuz you know love triangles happen and like you can't you can't blame yourself >> for how the cookies crumbled a year ago like you know what I mean like feelings are feelings. Um Derek chose to do that triathlon like you know so I don't think he should blame himself.
>> Running in front of a bullet is crazy though >> in front of for a cop. Yeah, >> that's my thing. Like you do that for like is Jacob going to save you from a burned building.
>> You know what I'm saying? Like like that was his profession. Like I'm not jump jumping now trying to tackle the the shooter from behind is something. You know what I'm saying? Like you I I don't know. But >> and maybe I don't know. Maybe that's what you're trying to do. A bullet moves like that.
>> I don't know. Maybe >> what they say bullets don't got names on them.
>> Yeah. But also like Jacob probably had a bulletproof vest on, bro.
>> What shot?
>> Oh my god, you're so right. Derek, you [ __ ] >> I just kept thinking about that like >> damn.
>> He probably had a bulletproof vest on.
>> Unnecessary perpetual hero.
>> Yeah, >> you can't help it. He has to his best friend like you know what a great guy.
>> Great guy. I um you know last week we did say seeing how this affects the free clinic.
>> Yes.
>> You know who's going to run it.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Um you know we we mentioned on the Derek episode Leslie and Eva's reactions. Uh so I'm I'm interested to see that. Mhm.
>> One relationship that we did see this week that was very interesting that I loved >> Mhm.
>> Deanna and Cat.
>> I was just going to say, Yeah. I really like that.
>> They are like >> they're kind of peasing apart in a bit.
>> Yeah.
>> Like similar.
>> Mhm.
>> You know, different, but I feel like they kind of speak the same language in in a way.
>> Yeah. Um, also Deanna McBride is officially my favorite character in Vienna Gates. One, I just love that she is rebellious, >> but in a way that's that's like her, like her still being a part of the Catilian community cuz she's not a rebel like Isaiah where he just like turned his back on like his way, you know, his family's way of life and just went into his own thing. is like she's still been doing her, but she still has a place in that community. And I love how she like >> toys that line and she's still herself.
Like she showed up, she did everything she had to do for the catillion, but like she came in with the glamorous all black. Um, shout out to the wardrobe department. Her um the mo the mo like everything, the makeup 10 out of 10. The grand entrance >> 10 out of 10. Like I loved everything about it. And I love how she's still not letting up on Vanessa, >> man.
>> Keep your foot on her neck.
>> Yo, when Vanessa was talking to Nicole, >> how do you get Cat to listen? How do you get Cat to stay in business? Like >> I'm like, she was like, you know, you always was just so good.
>> Like, oh, >> they Oh, your kids always listen to you.
And it's like that's when that that that difference come into play like oh cuz it was like oh my kids are privileged but we don't play that >> like and then know what what Nicole said. Oh I I put cat on her place.
>> Yep.
>> I let her have her moments but it I I put that girl right in her place.
>> But we saw a shift with Cat during that conversation.
>> Yeah.
>> And I you just like one of those things and shout out to Kobe because like the eyes the eyes told it all.
>> She she she can say a lot with her eyes.
>> Mhm. And it's just been beautiful to see how the growth of the characters >> from one year to the next. You always talk about the glow up with the wardrobes and everything, the budget, but just even them growing and and that's one of the things that we learned on the Hawthorne's live of >> by them having you know it's three months out, but they understand every day and you know, shout out to the guy who plays Jacob said >> he watches himself every day and okay, I got to improve on that. You know what I mean? Uh, but seeing like Cat and I'm like I mean, yeah, Cat. I'm like, wait, okay, so let's see how she gets into this next week or two.
>> What's her relationship going to be like with her sister?
>> Jesus Christ.
>> You know, so I'm interested to see that.
But I thought >> I did like them. And like I I say it all the time, I love when characters interact for the first time or ones that don't interact often do. And it just shows like there was there's a whole like life that they had before the show started because of course y'all are friends. Like of course y'all are familiar with each other. Like our our mothers are best friends.
>> Um and and then being able to relate even she was even there for Dell Cat like you know oh I I watched my parents marriage implode.
>> I get it. I'm watching my mom date two [ __ ] I get it. like you know and also Cat being rebellious and in her suspicions and stuff like that of just not being like whatever like so they relate on that >> and I love that they can talk about it and she did kind of like >> bring Deanna to a point where it was just like you know Diana feel how she feel >> but you know thank you for this different way of thinking about it.
>> Yeah that's what I thought was exciting.
Yeah. Um I you know it's >> Yes, >> we set for a great week.
>> We are. And I'm interested in um Joey.
>> Yeah.
>> Because now there's a little bit of spotlight on him right now because first of all, when someone like Derek gets like loses his life in the way that he did in a senseless, you know, again, he had no business being there, you know what I mean? And he's innocent. He's a good guy. When something like that happens, people want someone to blame.
And it it's sometimes not rational at all. And Joey Armstrong just seems like the person that everyone can point their finger at. And I think that is going to ultimately be bad for Joey, unfortunately.
>> I don't think it's going to be enough to take him down, but I think it's going to be where, you know, he's going to be a little shaken up. Now you got Darnell who's getting more suspicious, and now, you know, Vanessa might start to get a little bit more suspicious. And also, we don't know if Doug is a ghost or not, who might really be ready to turn shut up on Joey.
>> So, things could get murky.
>> Yeah. And just thinking about where Vanessa was, she learned when Joey was when Doug was allegedly, you know, being taken out, you know, she was >> was hitting that.
>> He was >> crazy.
>> You know, bad enough he had to watch Vanessa, you know, play with him.
>> So, it was >> Oh my god. That's one of my favorite scenes. They would. I hope >> is him just looking at Doug while his wife is literally like kissing up on him.
>> Yeah. I hope that if this isn't a ghost that when Douglas McBride comes back >> MD >> I hope he comes back with a vengeance >> him.
>> I hope Yeah. I hope he, you know, is no longer for the shits.
>> I want to see him like, man, he better have a couple women, right? Well, no.
You know, have a nice lady, you know.
>> Yeah, a nice lady.
>> Cuz remember we was even I think we made a nice lady Chenise at one point.
>> No, that was all you.
>> Well, that's what me we me I pronouns pal. Um, but that was that cuz at that time I was like, yo, Chenise needs some distractions cuz she was all up in people business.
>> Yeah. I miss when that's all like Chenise was at one point only because like I felt like she was happier cuz now she's like dealing with Ted's [ __ ] and stuff like that. So, but she always >> every time you look she's doing >> Yep. She right in the background.
>> Yeah. I mean, so this is this is this is a shift. Like they really >> everything is about to shift.
>> It's like >> cuz now we also just think about all the little things that have now come about because of Derek's death. Now, Jacob and not Jacob, um, Andre and Ashley are now back in the same orbit.
>> You know what I mean? It's like little little things that are like, you know, where it's like the rest of this year is about to be turned on its head.
>> Mhm.
>> Hey gatekeepers, make sure you hit the subscribe button on Six Heart Media YouTube channel where we discuss Beyond the Gates every single week and we have a lot more fun content coming. and make sure you check out our featured affiliate sponsors.
>> So, I'm also a lot of things concluded this week, not just Dark's Life.
>> That was good. That was good. Give me that one.
>> Um, and that's the Catillian story line >> finally. I mean, not finally.
>> I know, but it was just like, all right, let's get to it. Um, so a lot of things actually happened at the Gatilian. So, let's start with the little cute little relationship um with uh Terrell and Jessica cuz we know Jessica is going to college in California and now we see why cuz her [ __ ] parents suck.
>> They man what >> you know compared to you know the Dupri family full of love you know they drive with love with their you know family in their village and then you see like >> how the father and the mother like you know kind of turn their nose at her and stuff. I have to say this second time was uncomfortable necessary for the actors.
>> Mhm.
>> But probably the second most uncom No, it's the first, but second time was like uncomfortable watching a man talk. First time was when the guy, the journalist was talking to Danny about her being older, right?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> I've never in a million years seen a father talk to their daughter like that, calling a disappointment. and she all she did was throw back a little bit. She ain't even >> right. And then you think about uh like quoteunquote bad kids. Like Jessica is smart. She's intelligent.
She's articulate. She's beautiful. She's going to USC, >> UCLA. I mean, I'm sorry. Better not get that mixed up cuz UCLA them Bruins will come for you.
>> So, I don't even know what that means.
So, I apologize.
>> Those are rival schools.
>> Okay. Thank you.
>> It's like like and the Celtics.
>> Oh, okay. Shout out to the Knicks.
>> Yeah, shout out to the Knicks. Um, >> [ __ ] I'm thinking about the Knicks.
Oh, but like she's a good kid. Like, she has a bright future ahead of her, you know? So, it's like for you to call uh someone like that an embarrassment and like some of the other things that he was saying about her. It's like, do you know what you could be getting with these young girls nowadays? You know, and now you have this like she's actually like a really good kid. But I do appreciate that after all the [ __ ] she was talking about the cat, I'm glad she did it for the experience. And then I'm also glad that like she was able to rebel a bit and do what she did. And even like Danny, you know, cuz I could see they they see each other because Danny was the one that like always had to act out and not like, you know, conform and, you know, all that kind of stuff. So um shout out to Jessica. I like that. And also I love how her and Terrell left.
>> Yeah. Yeah. and be fun.
>> I'd own a beach house. Must be nice. Oh, we'll just go to my beach house. My parents are never here.
>> And I was like, well, okay. You know, DC, how far do they have to travel? You know, uh, but shout out to them. I mean, I know he wanted to be there for Samantha. Yeah.
>> But, you know, I think they got that type of relationship. She >> I think she would understand.
>> Yeah. Down the line, they going to laugh about it when they like in their 30s.
>> Remember when you snuck out of my Italian and had sex with Jessica for the first time? right?
>> Or like your first girlfriend or whatever.
>> Mhm.
>> Um but yeah, cuz I mean I wanted them to seal the deal before she went away to college and you know she brought the you know she brought the protection like you know they did it this fairness, right?
She's all in cuz she's like okay we can do this all summer and then when you come out like she's not trying to run away from him >> and she's being realistic about it. But but in most cases like this, it feels like the woman will be trying to run away from the man and the situation. She likes him and and and he deserves that.
But >> it's going to be tough summer for him cuz he going to be constantly in his head counting down.
>> He don't want to leave her. Especially now that if they did go through with it like they're, you know, he's going to be like damn like I'm not going to be like right like damn like countdown >> and then but I mean she's being realistic like we we'll figure out how to come see each other you know.
>> So I mean I do hope it works at least for a little bit.
>> Yeah.
>> You know for for his sake, >> you know, but can we talk about Nathan?
>> Oh my god, what a dick. Oh my goodness.
So, we knew he was.
>> Yeah.
>> And I'm so glad that Samantha cuz I thought we were going to go into like this like before when she was, you know, got caught with him. I thought we were going to deal with that whole like we can't keep her away from the bad boy trope. And I'm so glad that she, >> you know, figured it out. It was like, "Oh, no. He's he's, you know, I'm too good." Yeah. I'm too good for him >> type of [ __ ] And like knew knew that.
And that was that. And that Chessie was the one that ended up thinking that he was the prize. It's like, "Girl, ew. You can have him >> for the streets."
>> He is for the streets. So, he's at the gaton in a hot ass mess drinking, >> right?
>> Cheating, right? In um Francesca's name. Then it's like, "Bro, I just peeped. You don't know how to spell your girlfriend's name." Cuz that's how they got caught.
Cat was like, "Wait, says when was Franchesca spelled with a K?"
>> Yep, >> bro. Really?
>> Mhm.
>> Really? Come on. But yeah, I'm I'm happy. And shout out to once again Darnell. I mean, Darnell was definitely probably one of the little, you know, MVPs of the >> COA. I love him. I love the McBride twins.
>> Yeah. Catching Samantha when she, you know, Chess tried to trip her.
>> So cute.
>> And then pointing out said, >> Deanna, when you won it didn't look like that cuz he, again, that would make sense. He would know >> his twin sister won something huge. He's constantly seeing.
>> Yeah. And I even remember Vanessa saying that it was like framed or something in her room or something like that.
>> And think about again, you know, you you're a twin, so you would obviously know better than I would, but I know as a brother sister, me and my sister spent a lot of times in each other's rooms just having conversations from, you know, I'm talking from the ages of like six to >> when we both moved out. So, >> you know, we spent a lot of time. So, he's going to know certain things. You know what I mean? That made a lot of sense. It was those small little details.
>> I love it. I love it so much. And uh and I love how some gatekeepers didn't like that. Dupri kind of took over the catillion.
>> Um but they did set up that little emergency in the in the beginning of the week like, "Oh my god, it's going to be a dumpster fire." And I was like, "Y'all are so dramatic." Um but the basically the host of the Catillian who was on the board or whatever um was sick.
>> Mhm.
>> And last minute. So then that's when Chelsea Cat take takes over and um the could have called you to play that >> Anita and right Anita and uh Vernon end up like uh doing some things too. But I mean come on like >> it is what it is like it's their it's like they were going to find a way to be involved and I like how they did it. It was cute.
>> Grandpa Ted, >> you know, just being you saw him as a pop or grandfather, granddad.
>> Some people did see him as that.
>> Yeah.
But, you know, just the role, it was cute. I did like it cuz you also don't see >> him and Samantha in a lot of scenes. So, >> and then him stepping up and, you know, even preventing Tyrell from messing up the night. You know, it's like, look, I understand you cuz Terrell's doing what he's supposed to do, but as you're supposed to, you're supposed to let you know, I'm just thinking about like if my kids, right? I'm going to let my son, you know, yeah, protect your sister, but we not going to do this right now because we got to do the right thing, but let him do that. So, I thought that was great. Um, you know, I thought, man, I know you I'm going steal your shine. I mean, no, I'm going set it up for you.
>> Martin and Smitty. Ah, >> they were definitely the best.
>> I keep pausing the show cuz she kept talking about how >> they were just the best dressed of the night. Like, first of all, like Martin's navy blue suit, like the old navy blue with like the everything like the lapels were like a little dark.
It was just like, "Oh my god." Um, and then the burgundy >> Mhm.
>> just complimented it like complimented him so well and I was like, "Wow, you guys look great." Cuz you got the black and white suits. The kids are going to have black and white suits on. So, I love that they like stood out. Um, I used to like want to be a male stylist.
So, just like looking at how they put that together and I was just like just loved it so much. So, shout out to the wardrobe >> in June, >> the glam team in general. Like everyone looked amazing. June looked so good.
That dress was beautiful.
>> Uh, everyone honestly 10 out of 10.
>> Yeah. Yeah, it was great.
>> 10 out of 10. The Glam, they really killed that. Um, the guys look good, the girls look good. It was it was a nice mix.
>> Yeah.
>> Of the different styles and and stuff like that. So, >> I'm glad that we got to see the full Catilian as well.
>> U cuz, you know, it's like Winter Fest where it's like how much of Winterfest are we going to see? It's been talked about for months. So, I'm glad we did get a very satisfying, you know, throughout the event. There was, you know, the right amount of drama, the whole like, is Darnell going to show up?
And then him being like Prince Charming low key. Um, I can see Samantha crushing on him now.
>> Oh, thousand% >> just because of the whole like, oh my god, you save me.
See, and that's what's going to be interesting because I've seen situations like that, you know, where a woman or even young girl, this happened like a lot of times in high school where this guy is so nice, but then he's like, "But I had a crush on him." I mean, he said he had he was obsessed with Chelsea. Yes. Which I mean, look at the material as you would say. So, you could see that. But then now, you know, Chelsea's clearly like engaged, but and I'm not saying he was settled, but I can see her like I don't want to say nothing because he's, you know, and then maybe, you know, she she's going to be in a she's about to turn 18.
>> Mhm.
>> You know, that I know that's like the age or whatever. It's a little different. I don't know how old Darnell is exactly, but that will be like you said, I can see them crushing. Um, >> I did love the fact like they also employed so many other actors and actresses and I saw a lot of the younger up and actors posting that they were a part of this. So, I love that they had an opportunity. They didn't just throw some like I mean they were >> essentially extra characters, but you know they got to be a part of it.
>> What's exciting is because maybe in the future >> cuz also we know that um >> uh Terrell's going to Banicker >> so you know he's going to need class.
No, >> say it.
>> Say it. I know you want to say Banaker.
So, you know, like we could see them in the future episodes. So, I think that's what's also um really fun.
>> Um and just the the drama cuz also during the Catilian, you got the whole crime scene going down at the same time.
So, everything is kind of interweaving into each other. Joey calling Vanessa and being like, "Yo, you might want to tell Naomi to get to the hospital." And you know, >> shout out to I think a lot of people. He is Fairmont Crest's bad boy. I can see like that's the way the promo videos or whatnot would say. Fairmont Crest is bad boy. But for him to do that I thought was incredible. He didn't absolutely >> didn't have to. Um >> but that's what I respect about him >> cuz we know how he feel about the Dri.
>> He don't give a [ __ ] He could care less about them. But also I did like one thing he said and and you know before we get I know we get ready to get out of here but before we do that I know this will kind of help transition into what you wanted to talk about as far as the live with the Hawthorns. Um I love the fact that he told >> Elon he said I would never put your ch your family in danger right you know. So show Armstrong he be trying to like a black heart but it's a little red in there. Yeah, he um >> he's um he but he's also with Vanessa especially very real with her. Like he said like, "Yo, that feeling you got when I called you >> where there's a slight possibility that I could be involved in some wild [ __ ] like this, that's real and you like remember that because that could be happening in the future because of the lifestyle that he lives." So it's like at every point he's letting Vanessa know like who he is >> and that's what I respect about him. But then at the same time being decent enough to call her and say you might want to tell you know >> so I I do respect that about him >> and I do like when him and Dell are on the same page. So I do hope that they you know somehow >> this I love it.
>> Yeah love you like Darnell. Yeah.
>> Shout out to D like I shout out to the McBrides. Like >> but that's why I think to bring it back full circle as we get ready here. That's why I think maybe Doug came to die out first.
>> Said, "Daddy's still alive.
GO."
>> Daddy's still alive.
>> Daddy's still alive.
>> Go get Joey.
>> Don't Don't press too hard. Just a little bit.
>> Yeah, I agree. Um, >> yeah. So, I cannot wait for next week.
>> Um, >> anything particular in the trailer that you're like, "Oh, my about to get real.
>> It's got to be Doug.
>> Yeah.
>> You know, is it a ghost? Is it not? And I think that's what makes this weekend so fun about being a gatekeeper and in the community, just seeing >> a gatekeeper >> so many people come up with their theories, you know. Um we were I remember just waiting to see what was going to happen with the way Ted was going to find out about Eva. You know what I mean? There's always so much stuff. So, this it's going to be great.
>> It's going to be great. Um, yeah. I think the whole how this Doug situation plays out is probably the most exciting part for me right now. And also Leslie checking um >> Haley being like, "Oh, yeah." Cuz it's like if anybody gonna see Haley through the all the [ __ ] it's gonna be Leslie. Yep.
>> So, it's gonna be another exciting week.
So, I do want to give some shout outs right now because >> the eventful week in Fairmont Crest also meant an eventful week for Gatekeepers because like we had a >> major character death in the middle of the week and it ended with a character coming back to life. So, we're all just like >> Yeah.
>> Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Um >> we all had to go to the throne.
>> Yes.
So, I do want to just shout out to all of the gatekeepers that have joined our um community um on Instagram, on YouTube, on Facebook. Like it has been such a pleasure talking about the show with you guys and theories and um it's so many different views out there on the different characters and the scenarios and that just you know shows that the show is very you know well written and these characters are full and vibrant to where we can discuss them you know forever and ever and ever >> um with gatekeepers online. So I just want to shout out all of our new followers. If you're not following on Instagram please do loving them gates.
We also have a Facebook page. Uh, of course, we're here every week doing recaps. Um, hit that hotline cuz we want to start doing live streams where we talk about all of your fan theories and commentary on the show. So, if you call the hotline, leave your hot takes, your hot theories.
If you disagree with Brian, like we want to hear all of it and talk about it on the show.
>> They can't just disagree with me. They can't disagree with you.
>> I mean, I usually am right about a lot of things. I'm just kidding. Um, but yeah, we want to hear from you gatekeepers and do some live streams, but that starts with y'all. So, please, please, please call in your opinions. We really want to hear them. Um, we also have mugs for sale.
>> Mhm.
>> Ding. Um, but another thing that happened this week though, um, is the Hawthorne, the actors that play the Hawthorne family, Isaiah, um, Darlene, Elon, and Jacob did a live stream on Instagram. I just so happened to open Instagram and they were on live >> and it was so fun. Like it really was. I want to shout out the actors for doing that. It was so fun to hear them talk about >> um you know everything from how they got on the show to the acting the actual acting part of the show, but also storylines, the fans um working together and all these different things. And they answered a lot of the questions in the chat. Um so it was really fun. It was really fun. and you can see like their characters coming to life as they're talking and um I really would love to see more of the uh cast doing that. Um just because just seeing them so candid and you can just see also like how much love they have for each other, how much they enjoy working together.
>> Yeah, >> it was a it was a great experience.
>> Yeah, I enjoyed it. You know, you sent it to me and it's funny cuz I was actually like tuning in and then you was like look look and so you know I'm sitting there eating dinner and just watching it. It was It was great.
Especially >> I can't wait to see them all on screen together.
>> Yes. We haven't We haven't gotten that yet.
>> Yeah. I want to see all four of them.
And then, you know, they reminded us there's another brother out there, >> Luke.
>> Yeah. So, I can't wait for him to come.
>> And the way they were talking makes it seem like we're going to see them in the future.
>> Yeah.
>> Like sooner rather than later. Um I also want to mention some other things I learned is which I'm sure a lot of you guys wonder like how far in advance they film. So, they film at least >> like 3 to 4 months in advance. Um, Isaiah, the actor that played Isaiah said that his character right now is actually filming Halloween scenes.
>> So, those kind of tidbits that you get talking to the actors and the cast and the crew is so dope to me. Like, I love that kind of stuff.
>> Shout out to uh Angela who plays Deanna because she posted like she had to keep that in about Doug and >> Yeah. imagine how they were had to do that. Yeah.
>> Um, shout out to her who, um, you know, she's friends friend of the show now.
Um, just supporting online. Um, Ben, the character that plays Derek, um, showing love as well.
>> Like this is like it's almost like he died twice, right? Cuz he died on the show, but and I would say died maybe, but the love he got, >> which I was so happy cuz y'all was hard on Derek was always my guy. I was too.
But we all really truly did grow to love him and like saw him >> especially once he got away from Ashley.
>> That's all it was.
>> Still mad that he didn't get with that.
>> I know that Spanish uh firefighter that was throwing it at him. She was throwing it at him. Or even Chenise >> D.
But yeah, so we really want to just thank the amazing Bianca Gates um cast and crew for the support that they've been showing us for the phenomenal work that they've been doing on this show. We are so excited. I think this is the most >> anticipation that gatekeepers have had for the next week like since the show started >> and we love that.
