Custom home construction involves a systematic process from foundation to completion, typically spanning 7 months, where builders integrate client-specific design elements such as rustic materials (epoxy concrete floors, pine shiplap, Cyprus wood mantels) with modern amenities (quartz countertops, large kitchen islands) to create functional living spaces that balance traditional aesthetics with contemporary comfort.

Green Cabin Full 4KAdded:
I'm Nicole with Capalbo Designs and Remodels.
>> And I'm our brother Mikey. Welcome to our new build.
and I'm Fred Green. Uh wanted to share a little bit of background on the house that we recently finished in Plannersville.
So we started working with a very good architect and then the next step was to find the right builder.
It was really only one builder that I talked to and that was Mikey. He had uh his uh renovation work and doing quite well there. In fact, we were his first customer.
So, probably the first time I saw the project was when they broke ground.
>> As you can see behind me, I got the brick masons in. They laid our footers and foundation uh yesterday and day before yesterday. They're laying CMU block up to our elevated slab. We're going to take you through this process from start to finish on how we build custom home.
Second time I went out there, not too many weeks later, maybe two or three weeks, he had already had uh almost it framed in. So, he was going that quickly.
We had the plumbers out here last week getting everything rubbed in. That includes valves, drains, vent lines, tubs, um electricians out here now getting everything wired up. We're getting everything dried in to protect all of our mechanical. We got our roof on. Uh metal's going on the porches today. Um and the mason should be getting wrapped up with the skirt today as well.
They've been dreaming and designing this house for years and they finally decided to bring it to life. And we had our challenges along the way cuz it's not our typical build, but we were excited to take it on.
>> We were able to kind of bring some different elements into this build that we don't typically do.
We did some epoxy concrete floors that kind of keep that rustic feel. They're really durable. They're perfect for a hunting cabin and when it's all said and done, they look awesome in the space.
And we also did some pine shiplap on the walls and the ceiling and it just has that like totally rustic feeling that's perfect for a hunting cabin. We kind of juxtaposed that with just clean white cabinetry. We didn't want to have it be all wood. Um, so we did that with some beautiful quartz countertops so that, you know, the wife still had a little bit of lux in there with a beautiful cooktop because this really is going to be a place ultimately for gathering with family and friends and kind of a retreat to be able to come to and escape.
So, as many of you know, we live in the Low Country. We're from Pauliey's Island, South Carolina, and we wanted to tie some of those elements into this build.
As far as the mantel goes, we got um Cyprus that came out of the Wakamal River. Some friends of mine, they dive and pull wood out of there and mill things for customers. Um, we got engineered structural wood beams out on the porches. We did some really cool pine stairs that gave it a nice rustic like bulky feel. Um, and the homeowner was super happy with the way everything turned out.
So, as far as finishes go, we did a lot of brick work around the outside of the house. He's got a nice wood burning fireplace, a brick skirt.
We opted to do Hardy on the outside of the house so it'll be nice and durable.
Um, our roof consists of half shingle, half metal roof, and it just gave the house a really nice look.
>> So, since this customer um was is a friend of ours, we've done a lot of work for him over the years. We really wanted to add a special touch for him. He's a really avid hunter, and in this space, we wanted to kind of give him a trophy case for him to show off his work. So, we had our master craftsman that works um with our company design this trophy case where he could really show off his turkey beards and deer mounts and all of his hunting related things.
So, his one request was not to have just an average kitchen that you would find in a rustic hunting cabin, but to really have a space that they could cook awesome meals in. So, he wanted a 36-in gas range. And so we kind of built the kitchen around that. Once we had kind of the space framed out and built, we put in the biggest island we could. So we have this huge probably over 8 ft island um in this space with nothing else on it but stone. So they have a place to gather and cook and prep and it's just a really beautiful kitchen >> and it flows really well. lot lots of space to hang out, enjoy family, enjoy friends, whatever meal Fred decides to throw on the stove and uh turned out good. We're happy with it.
The house consists of a master bedroom, a guest bedroom, and a bunk room. You know, plenty of space for everybody to sleep, come in and hang out and enjoy.
two full bathrooms, one that has an access from the hallway and from a bedroom. And we did full tile, nothing super fancy, but we just wanted to give them the nicest space we could.
>> The house was completed probably when we got to CO. It was within maybe 7 months.
It far exceeded the timeline that I thought it was going to take. For the most part, it was on budget, came in as planned, and the quality was great. So, for any potential prospects, uh, I would give Mikey an A+ for what he did with us, both in the renovation work early on as well as a new home.
He did an outstanding job and uh, I would recommend him to anybody that that asked.
