This video demonstrates the fundamental principles of aircraft design through an experimental approach in Kerbal Space Program, showing how to construct a massive aircraft by adding cargo bays, fuel tanks, delta wings, multiple engines, and landing gear while maintaining proper center of gravity and wing area to achieve successful flight and takeoff.

Can This Massive Plane Fly? | KSP EP8Added:
Welcome to Kerbal Space Program, everybody. Today, we're going to do a different type of thing. We're going to try and see if we can make either the fastest plane possible or the biggest plane possible. And I think we're going to start with the biggest. So, we're going to go for this thing.
Because why not?
It is definitely the biggest one out there. That's going to be at the end.
So, what we need to do is add some of this in.
Just like so.
And that's rocket fuel. I don't want rocket fuel. I want liquid fuel.
All right, let's add some liquid fuel.
Just like so. And then the rest of it can just be empty.
And the reason for that is because we want to make it as light as possible.
Cuz I feel like if it is light enough it should be able to fly.
So, we're just going to add a bunch of these cargo bays.
Like so.
Yes.
And then maybe one more fuel tank.
Like so.
Can you add it in for me, please? Yes.
And add you in on the end.
No. No. No. No. No. No. No.
Just like so.
And I would want to add you in.
Can you not add?
No.
I was going to do this annoying thing.
Just like so.
And then what that means is we can have a tail plane at the end.
No.
No.
Right, we need to make this smaller.

Right, so we've now added in the tail section of this plane.
And what we can do is add in the wing, the tail itself.
Going to add it in like so. It's got to be big.
It has to be big.
And then we can add in some of these.
I have a feeling this won't take off.
Why does it not just like so?
Boom.
Add some more of these.
on like that So now that should be able to keep us in the air.
We're going to add two here for the tail.
Turn it around. Why does it keep doing that? I want it like this.
So that's the tail of the plane sorted.
It's going to be big.
Is it going to take off? Probably not.
But hey, you don't know until you try. Let's just say that.
Let's add some of these on to make it be able to have a chance of taking off.
And then we can start to do the wings of the plane.
Yeah.
That's going to be I have That's a big big plane. So the wings we're just pretty much going to make the biggest wing possible.
So we're going to add in some of these.
What's bigger, this one or this one?
This one is bigger.
Boom.
Boom.
Boom.
The aim is to try and make it take off at least once.
But, we've got to have a massive wing area for it to be able to take off.
And I'm going for a delta wing because I feel like that has enough lift in the wings to be able to give us um lift. So, we're going to add some more of these in. Now, if it goes well, we could potentially have a plane that takes off.
So, you need to go there, but we need to find things here to be able to connect it up. So, I'm going to add some of you in.
We need a smaller connector like so.
Add in another delta wing, but a big one on the side.
Oh, no. We want it like so.
Just like so.
And then we can add in more of these like that. then we can add in another delta wing.
Like so.
So, there's a massive wing, and then this is where we start to change it.
Boom.
We can get you in here.
You here.
And then maybe we get these ones here.
And here.
Now, ideally we don't have a lot of fuel on board, so it means we should be light enough, you know?
We should have a light enough aircraft that lets us take off.
So, we're going to add those in, and then we're going to add in another one of these.
It's like so.
And then to end it off, we're going to add these here.
And hopefully, the wing should be done.
Now, I I can see this wing being rubbish already and failing.
But that's okay.
That is okay. We live and learn.
Can I have you in, please?
Just here will do.
Then we can add these ones in just to add a bit more oomph.
Center of gravity.
Please, it's in the middle, so that's okay.
Right, we need to add some engines in now.
And that's what we're going to do now.
So, we can add in six of these.
One there.
Some there.
Some there.
Some there. We'll have eight. And now it's time to add in the landing gear.
We need extra large landing gear here.
Here.
Here.
So, that means we have enough there.
We're going to put in some medium landing gear here.
So, that means it should all be the same height.
Some there. And we're going to put some in the middle to keep it nice and balanced.
We also need some at the front.
Obviously.
So, that's what we're going to do.
But, I can't place any at the front cuz it is too big for some reason.
Going to put some of you here, and then let's test flight.
It's not going to work, but I wouldn't add a nose.
Maybe we should have added a nose.
Hopefully, it works.
I mean, it's not even on the runway.
So, that is going to be a problem. It's not on the runway.
Now it is.
Let's throttle up. We just need it to take off. That's all I want it to do.
It's to be able to take off, and we've made a massive plane.
Can you take off?
I mean, we've lost an engine.
But, I would say this is flying.
It is flying.
I would say so it is.
And it's going pretty fast as well.
Now, if we make the wing more structurally stable, I believe it could actually work really, really well.
What we can do is probably close the gear.
Make us a bit quicker and a bit more aerodynamic.
Oh, and this is beautiful.
This would be a great transport aircraft.
It really would.
And let's climb up a bit more.
Get some more altitude.
And I'm going to fully test it.
See, it's lovely. It's cruising around 300 m/s. It's fast. It's pretty decent.
It climbs up well.
It just needs a really big runway.
Now, the main question is can it can it do a roll?
Oh, it can.
Just like so.
Now, can we recover from it? That's the question.
If we can recover, then we built one of the best planes in the world.
And we can't recover.
But that's fine. It's good while it's lasted.
We are going to end it there for today. So, thank you for watching.
The biggest plane on Kerbal Space Program. Someone's probably built a bigger one.
But that's fine.
And we'll see you next time.
