Texas Storm Threat & The Bigger Picture FormingAdded:
Good morning, Skywatchers. Happy Mother's Day. And to my oldest daughter, Leah, happy birthday.
All right, guys. We're going to get into the storm report in a minute, but just take a look at the sky behind me. It is a beautiful blue day. It's about 55° here in northern Illinois.
These are the days that you want to see.
But down in Texas, Arkansas, and surrounding areas, they're going to have a little bit different weather today. We're going to get into it next.
What's up, Skywatchers? What is up, indeed? Sunday, May 10th, 2026.
And today, the Storm Prediction Center is highlighting parts of Texas for another round of potentially dangerous severe weather.
Right now, the highest concern [music] is across northern and central Texas, where conditions are coming together for large hail, damaging winds, and rapidly developing thunderstorms later this afternoon into the evening.
We're looking at the possibility of hail over 2 in in diameter, the kind that can shatter windows, destroy vehicles, and damage roofs very quickly. Wind gusts could also exceed 75 mph if the storms organize into a larger bowing line complex moving across central and northern Texas tonight.
Earlier overnight storms across Oklahoma and North Texas pushed cooler air southward, but the atmosphere is already beginning to recover. South of that boundary, temperatures are expected to rise quickly with deep Gulf moisture pushing dew points into the upper 60s, leading to a volatile setup capable of explosive storm development. Storms are expected to first develop out west near the organizing surface low in west Texas before expanding eastward. Initial storms may become supercells capable of very large hail and isolated damaging winds. But, as the evening progresses, models continue to suggest [music] these storms may merge into a larger bowing complex capable of producing more widespread damaging wind across North Central Texas.
Further east, more isolated severe storms are also possible across parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley, Florida, and even portions of New Mexico into Far West Texas. And this is another reminder of something I've been talking about for weeks now. The atmosphere is entering a much more energetic pattern. Severe drought in some regions, flooding in others, extreme temperature swings, violent instability. The weather pattern across the United States continues to show signs of amplification heading deeper into late spring and toward summer.
If you're in these areas today, stay weather aware. Have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially if storms continue after dark tonight.
And while all eyes are focused on the severe weather unfolding right now across Texas and the surrounding states, I think it's important to step back for a moment and look at the bigger picture forming around us.
Much of the country is still locked in severe drought. The ground across the plains in the Southwest has become extremely dry and hardened after months of very little precipitation. And when rain finally does come, especially heavy rain, increasing the risk for flash flooding, runoff, erosion, and dangerous flood events.
At the same time, wildfire conditions continue expanding across parts of the country. Crops are struggling, reservoirs remain stressed, and now major climate models are increasingly locking onto the development of a potentially strong El Niño event later this year. And if that pattern intensifies, >> [music] >> we could be looking at another major escalation in atmospheric instability across multiple regions of the world.
Because this decade has already shown us what happens when extremes begin stacking together. Historic drought, massive flooding, violent storms, wildfires, strange jet stream patterns, and weather systems that seem to swing from one extreme to another without much stability in between. Add in the fact that weather modification and geoengineering programs are openly being discussed and implemented around the world at various levels, and it becomes clear that humanity is no longer completely detached from the atmosphere itself. So, this is not the time to completely tune out or assume everything is going to suddenly calm down. If anything, this is the time to stay aware, pay attention, and quietly begin preparing for the possibility that this season and the months ahead could become [music] increasingly volatile.
Because whether it's drought, flood, wildfire, severe storms, or supply disruptions tied to agriculture and weather, being caught off guard is always worse than being ready.

Much love and many thanks. All right, guys, you can find me on Patreon, and it's free to join. On Patreon, you'll get behind-the-scenes videos, updates, and some things I just don't share on YouTube or Facebook.
Okay, sky watchers. Stay aware, be prepared, and until next time, keep looking up.
