When integrating a wiper motor into a canvas vehicle with limited space, the solution involves combining a Mercedes wiper motor with a Car Builder Solutions motor using a shaft connection, as the canvas vehicle's electrical system is sensitive to voltage drops and requires careful wiring configuration to prevent fault codes and system shutdowns.

The Wiring On The SLK55 AMG Gullwing Is a MASSIVE ProblemAdded:
Hello and welcome back to Not Just Campers where we're back on the wide body.
Right. What we're going to doing today, we are going to be tackling the wiper motor. Now, this car is canvas, so there is only three wires going into the wiper motor. And the problem we have is that that will not fit in there. There's not enough space to get that in because it has to go just underneath the dashboard, doesn't it?
>> It's all just under, isn't it?
>> Yeah. So, dashboard is here and wiper motors there. So, we've got to slim it all down. Now we have bought a wiper motor from carb builder solutions.
So that is the wiper motor from car builder solutions with don't if you call it a worm drive or whatever.
So that goes in the end and then that goes backwards and forwards and makes you makes these move those parts there that we've already put in. Now that's fine and that's what is on my car. However, because it's canvas, you can't run this is for just a normal 12vt, isn't it?
>> With multiple wires. So we've got to figure out a way to make this work.
with the brains because that's the brains.
And if we put this, we're thinking at the moment we put take that off and put it on here, it'll throw up all sorts of faults because canvas has got a problem with if it drops a voltage or amps or anything. It just doesn't like it, does it? And stops it.
>> What we're going to do, we're going to take it off and we're going to try it.
But to try it, we have got to put most the interior back in to uh get the wires and the ignition all wired up to it. So, we're going to do that. We'll take the door off. Make it easy so we don't bash his head. And I've already already put a a bend in the Mercedes prop tool. Obviously, they don't make Mercedes >> can't get staff anymore.
>> It's It's Mercedes quality, mate.
>> It's just dropped. You know what it's like? If you got a veto, you'll know.
Yeah. So, we'll take the door off. We'll try to get the dashboard in as best we can. We'll probably just end up laying laying it on. So, we got to That's got to be all altered, hasn't it? To go around the roll bars and everything.
>> Yeah, I think we've done most of it, haven't we?
>> Yeah, we've done some of it. Yeah. And we'll we'll play about with that. So, that's the job for the moment, and we'll just see how far along we get.
throw in this multitude of wires underneath here.
Everybody's going to be looking at this and thinking, "Oh my god."
>> Yeah, I do every time I look under there.
>> Yeah.
ignition switch just plugs in there and then switch for the wipers.
And that's quite simple. Like I say, cambus is quite simple because like say they use different plugs for everything, don't they?
>> Yeah.
>> And you are stripping the motor away.
So this is the Mercedes motor, isn't it?
>> Yeah. the AMG.
Oh, people are asking about the uh might as well ask you since we we're here. The your square back. How's it coming along?
I'm getting fed up of welding.
>> Even though it didn't look bad.
>> Yeah, it didn't look bad, did it? But then you found bit more >> hidden hidden bits.
>> Yeah.
>> Under sealer and but yeah, it's coming along. Hopefully this week, this weekend, it'll be me final bit of welding on the body, >> right?
>> The chassis part.
>> Yeah. Uh, and then I can start putting bits of paint on it. I want to put I said to Scott the other week, I says I want to start putting some paint on it.
I said I'm getting fed up of welding.
>> It just looks a bit like it's getting somewhere. You keep turning it over, grinding a bit off, >> putting a new bit on.
>> It's all right pain, but >> it's getting there, which is more important.
>> Good.
>> Right. So, there's motor feeds for this motor.
Look down there. There's two >> two connectors.
>> Yep.
>> So, my thought was if I disconnect them from there, which probably won't come off now cuz Oh, they're coming off cuz one's positive, one's negative.
>> Yep.
>> They're not going to be >> marked them.
>> Yeah.
Oh, I knew they were going to be wrong size.
>> Oh, they're different.
>> Yeah. So, we'll just tuck it out back for now.
And if we put them on there and wire us, >> you need your glasses on there.
>> Wire is connected onto there.
>> Yeah, we can see if it will work.
>> Hopefully, it will work.
>> Get down there. Yes.
>> Yeah. So, basically, we're cheating it.
>> Yeah. That red wire is for the slow speed.
>> Yeah.
>> So, we only need two wires.
>> But when I tested it other day, when that one's powered up there, >> Yeah.
>> that was spinning about the same speed as this one on fast.
>> Okay.
>> So, my theory, we'll run it on fast, >> right?
>> And then we need to modify this switch then.
>> Yeah.
>> And use that switch.
>> Yes. But it works the opposite way around.
>> Yeah. That works on >> this one. This one's a contact here.
>> Yeah.
>> And when it's in the park position, it makes a contact there.
>> Yeah.
>> When this one's in the park, it opens a contact. So, we'll have to >> put a relay in.
>> Yeah, we'll have to sort that. But, >> right, >> that can't be that hard, I'm sure.
>> Right.
>> Let's plug it in and see what happens.
>> Let's see if we can make smoke.
Don't say that to save you looking at the back of my bald head for the next 20 minutes while me and Alex try to figure out if this wiper would work the way that we did it.
It didn't. So, plan A was out the window. Uh the kept fall chugging up fault codes every two minutes and kept shutting down the system. So it's on with plan B.
What we're going to what we're doing we're keeping the motor. So that's the motor out of the Mercedes.
We'll take that section that bit off of the back. And then what we're going to do is we're going to take this motor apart because all we need is a top part because what we're going to do is we're going to graft them two together like so. We have taken apart the motors both of them. Yeah, we've just got bits everywhere.
And we've just been discussing what we're going to do because that belongs to that.
>> Yep. That one >> that goes in there.
>> That >> and that went through there. So, and that belongs to that.
>> Yep.
>> We've got some round bar. And weirdly enough, that round bar >> isn't too far off. It's near enough, is it? that and that. So, what we're going to do is basically use this, put some round bar on it, glue it in, and then we're going to make it so that it goes through into that and piggybacks onto it.
>> That's a simple way of explaining it.
>> That's his plan anyway.
>> Yeah, >> we'll see how it works out.
>> Yeah. So, I'm going to leave Alex to that because it's pointless both of us doing that. And I'm going to take the driver's seat out of that and I'm going to put the dashboard in or put the majority of the dashboard in to see how we go because the windscreen motor is going to go into that corner. So there'll be space, but if we get the seat out and the dashboard in, we'll be able to work around it and give us a bit more room.
Nat.
Hey.
How you getting on, buddy?
>> All right, I'm just going to put it back together now.
So, that's one side.
>> That's the This is the Mercedes part.
>> That's the >> one from Builder >> mounted together with a shaft all through it. Yep.
>> All done.
>> So, we're going to make a clamp around here around that. Yeah.
>> And it's going to support that end.
>> Yeah.
>> And then I think that'll be strong enough. May >> should be.
>> Yeah.
>> Which is strong enough as it is now bolted through when it's shafts through it. So, >> yeah. Liking.
So, that top to go on in there.
>> Yeah. Just going to put that on.
>> Right. We'll line it up for us. Park >> and then we shall test it and make sure it works.
I can't wait.
>> All right. But I've been hacking me dashboard to bits. You want to go a bath?
>> Yep.
>> So, you've been doing that, playing about. I've hacked me dashboard a bit.
Dashboard's gone in.
I've got it in.
>> Yeah, you've made a right mess.
>> I quite like that.
>> I meant all muk.
>> Alt muk. Well, there you go. So, that is the dashboard. And I've had to shape that binnacle back.
>> I've just put tape on it so when I take the dashboard out, I'm going to glass fiber the inside of it. Then that'll give me something to to bond to. Yeah.
And then that clock normally is down here obviously, but I've cut the dashboard out, cut the back of it off, and I've moved it over as well because it's got that little uh looks nice, doesn't it? That clock.
>> So it's the old old little clock in the middle.
And what we have discovered, weirdly enough, is that is in the center, but the radio display and the um vents are off to the passenger side. It's a bit strange.
Um clocks are in. So that's good.
So we've just been discussing the air vents. So we're going to have the two air vents up there as normal.
where you're getting rid of the radios.
Not the radio is that.
So that's your radio and your satnav and everything like that. And it goes on this little display up here. Now this is the still what 2014.
It's about 10 year old. So obviously it's moved a long a long way since then.
Um we think we're going to get rid of it. blank that over and then put a radio in here or maybe in there. I don't know yet. Depends where we can get one, doesn't it?
>> Yeah. What we can get one.
>> Yeah.
>> That looks like something else.
>> Yep. So, clocks are in. Steering wheels on.
Center console. We've just put in and mopped up. So, obviously this goes on and we need to get rid of obviously on the radio we need to get rid of all this. We We need to keep all this.
>> Keep that. Yeah. And I have just discovered because I was grabbing the angle grinder as you do.
>> Ready to cut it off.
>> Oh, are you? And I've just found some Torx 20 screws.
And we were saying that the wiper motor will go in here, won't we?
>> Yeah. In that plenty >> because your side pod comes down here.
So, in the side pod, we'll have behind it, there'll be the wiper motor, we'll also have because that vent is there normally, but it's in the way now. So, we're going to put it there. And below it, we're going to put the electric switch for the doors. That'll go in there. I think that look cool.
Uh, and then, let's say, just discovered on this, I can get this last Torx 20 out.
I didn't know they unclipped. No. So, that is good news. And then that'll mount in there. Will >> mount in there.
But that does leave us less space for a radio. Windscreen motor's going to go there then. Is it?
>> Yeah, I think it's out of way there, is it?
>> Yep. It's not way of anything. And then we've got to connect it up to >> to that.
Can't find pointy finger. Have you uh you destroyed it?
>> I've retired it.
>> Thrown it in bin.
>> No, I haven't.
>> Right. So that needs to go and connect to there. And unfortunately, we have said pipe that the worm thingy travel.
You're all technical this morning, aren't I? Can't get the words out. So that travels in there.
Does the worm drive onto that? However, that's not long enough now. But thankfully, we have a piece of 8 mm.
See, I didn't throw that away for change.
>> Yeah, I'm going to say what happened.
>> 8 m copper and that is the same size.
So, we can use that and that'll work.
And while that's happening, I'm going to glass fiber this. I did put that across when it was in. However, I can't get at the back of that to do it. So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to put a thin layer of foam on here.
Um, we have that white stuff, aren't we?
No, not your kneeling mat.
>> The other piece of thin foam.
>> Yeah, I did see some of that earlier.
>> That is somewhere anyway. So, I'll put a piece on there and then we'll just put a layer over the top of it. And because obviously this needs to be shaped and redone when the glass goes in and everything. So, it's going to be >> this is just a temporary measure for the moment, isn't it?
Should we have some testings? Testing.
Testing.
>> Testing. Testing. Testicle. Testicle.
One, two, three. Right.
Ignition. Hang on. You hold on to that.
>> We'll need to fasten our battery on first.
>> Oh, I'm going to see if ignition's on first.
>> All right.
>> Turn it off.
Right. All of the dashboard is in.
Right. Yep. Ignition is off. Right. I'll plug it in then.
Oh, it's only with that, right?
>> No, they're both disconnected, >> right? We No, it's not.
>> Oh, obviously you knew what you were doing.
>> Yes.
>> Right. Reason we've done that is because all the testings that we were doing earlier, we found that we had no uh >> the battery was flat.
>> Yeah. Flat battery >> flat flattened it in about half an hour, didn't it?
>> Yeah. Right.
So, we have loads of lights and loads of worring noises.
>> Yeah, at least it's woring.
>> Yeah. Indicators.
>> We might have a bulb out.
>> Yeah. Main beam's working. Although I can't see. Oh, >> right. Wipers. We'd like to test our wipers.
>> Uh, we would do I think that it under drawing.
>> All right. Or would you just watch the >> Why don't I mean that.
>> What?
>> Oh, I thought you were about washers.
You were on for pressing buttons.
>> No, >> it's dawned on me now.
>> Yeah, >> when you said get a piece of >> wake up.
>> So, that's our pretend wiper.
>> So, we can see is that park position?
>> That's in park position.
>> You ready?
>> I'm ready.
Oh, look at that. Oh, it's not Oh, yeah.
>> You're only in slow.
>> Yeah.
>> Bit quicker.
>> Yeah, >> it should go quicker again. There you go. Look. And then we've got slow speed.
It's making a bit of a noise because obviously not fast enough.
>> Yeah.
>> And then speedy.
Look at that.
We like that.
>> And that is using >> that's using as canvas.
>> That's using our canvas uh wiper motor relocated to there with our a different motor on top of it with an English British flag on.
>> Yeah. Made in England.
>> Made in England.
Uh >> we'll have to get Car Builder to uh get these in stock.
>> Yeah. So that's for Car Builder Solutions.
>> That could be his new line.
>> Yeah, we could do that. modifying them for car builder. Yeah.
>> So, that works really, really well, actually. And no, no warning sign no warning signs on the dash for the wipers.
>> So, that's a bonus, right? Heater.
Fan works.
Air con works.
>> Yeah, I heard solenoite clicking. Not >> obviously we've got to put vents in.
Clock's working.
>> I like that clock.
>> I think that's really nice. He's added to the clock. Gives like piece of elegance, doesn't it?
>> Yes.
>> That's not done. Right. The big test the radio because that wasn't working earlier.
In true fashion, it's not working now.
Just press that again.
That might have been I thought I'd heard something in boat making a noise, but >> All right.
>> It's all plugged in.
>> Yeah.
Well, we can code read it now. We found out why code reader won't work.
>> Yeah, we could do that >> cuz it's battery flat.
>> Yeah, I think. But all of them goubbins in the back.
>> Yeah. All that stuff's all >> of this >> radio and >> so I stand it up.
>> Yeah.
>> Everything there that you see is to do with the radio virtually.
>> Yeah. When you Google part numbers it's all >> radio based >> radio communication stuff isn't it?
>> Yeah. I mean that that's for the boot uh for the >> hood >> hood which we ain't got but virtually everything else is for the Yeah. So, probably missing some out of that, but we can go read it now.
>> Yeah.
>> But everything else is working. We just need to um see.
>> Should we try it? Hood.
>> Yeah, try it.
>> I can't do it now.
>> You absolute fool.
>> You panicking.
You muppet.
Right. You are just a wander.
Hazard's working.
Heated seats working. Well, this one is.
This one isn't.
>> I think it's just not plugged in. But we're not going to be using that anyway.
We're getting rid of that, aren't we?
>> Yeah.
>> We'll have been looking. We're going to put a like a Tesla screen, I think, or something like that in there. Um, yeah.
Should have make bum noises then. Now, >> coolant's low as well.
>> No, you're joking.
>> No, we'll have to have a look at that.
>> Yeah, but yeah, every other thing is there.
That's missing, I bet. um dashboard.
We need to concentrate on that. We need to put the side pods in.
>> Yeah.
>> So, once we put the side pods in, we're going to be moving the re relocating the vents to the outside.
>> The seat controls.
>> Yeah. The seat controls as well. They're going to move to the end.
Uh we need to put the humidifier.
No deister.
We need to put de >> and you say I'm an alcoholic.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. It's catching. So demyister vents in the top of the dash. But and we need to obviously >> that just needs a little bit more.
>> Yeah.
>> Bit more shaving off.
>> Yeah. Bit more shaving off. But it gives us an idea. We'll get the rubbers for the windows because obviously we need to try them. Test fit them.
>> Yeah. Yeah, when we're doing that cuz I can I can feel headache coming on.
>> You can feel your cold getting worse.
>> Getting worse.
>> We don't don't like fit windows, do we?
But we should be we'll get it. We'll get it, I'm sure.
>> Um >> cuz they're like tender penny screens for these are.
>> Yeah. Yeah. You can pick them up from Halfords.
>> Yeah, >> they stock them on the interioring or mock up somewhat, haven't we?
>> Yeah.
>> Uh you thought you'd read the We thought we'd have a laugh and read the fault codes. Yeah.
>> Only >> there were 27 modules uh and 27 of them had faults in >> minor details.
>> We've got rid of a lot of them.
>> Yeah. We just pulled the eyes out.
>> Yeah.
>> Um Yeah. So interior. Actually, we've got some of it mocked up in the front.
We We've just been looking at it and figuring out how we're going to make it work. And we have got a plan. Yeah.
>> But what we're going to do, we're going to leave park that at the side for one minute now. We'll come back to it obviously, but we've said that we're going to start at the front.
>> We're going to start putting bit back bits back on.
>> Yeah.
>> So, we can eliminate faults and >> other things >> because we've mopped up, roofed out, as it were, the main part of it. So the doors, the bonnet, the boot, everything, the interior, >> that's all it's making it a car now. So we're finessing it as it were. So we're starting from the front. We're going to put in all the rad packs, all the the air con, power staining, everything. And we're going to work his way back. So we're going to start headlights, grill, spotlights, radiators.
Then we're going to do the bonnet. We're going to make sure that that is 100% so it's perfectly level. Uh we've just gone around and put some little marks on where we need to gap some of it and add some little bits onto it.
Uh same with the arches. And then we're just going to carry on moving backwards and get it right so that when we hand it over to Lee or Steve, well I'm going to say neither of them moan but That's not going to happen, is it? You know that >> you can't say that.
>> Why?
>> About a mourning.
>> Well, they do. What?
>> They have constructive criticism.
>> Okay. Constructive criticism. That's what we know. Yeah. Um Yeah. Well, we we want to get it right. We don't want to just sort of say, "Oh, that needs filling. This needs doing it." We want to get it the best we can >> as near as we can before it goes.
>> Yeah, that's what we want to do. That's what I meant to say.
>> Yeah, I knew what you were trying to say.
>> Yeah, >> they both.
>> No.
>> So, we'll do that. We're going to work his way backwards and we're going to start now with the rad packs and that but and then start gapping. But we don't, you know, we're going to leave you for this week. Uh, thank you very much for your support, your comments, your likes, and even just being there because we have a a good loyal bunch of followers, don't we? So, thank you very much.
>> It really is appreciated.
>> If you aren't one of the loyal bunch, please like and subscribe.
You know, it helps us out, raises our profile a little bit, doesn't it?
>> Yeah.
>> And uh I've gave Alex a wage r as well.
2 pound50 now. an extra 50p.
>> So obviously I need to pay for that.
>> Yeah.
>> Right.
>> I am still waiting for it though.
>> Yeah. And I've just took a pound off into Yeah. It's cost me to work this week.
>> Right. You can I was just going to say can I help yourself to a beer in the fridge? But >> cuz I don't drink.
>> You don't do you >> don't touch it >> at all?
>> No.
>> Right. We'll see you later. Have a fantastic week wherever you are in the world. Say hello. Like I say, drop a comment and uh we'll see you next week.
Over to you.
>> Bye from me.
See you.
