Amrita Sher-Gil (1915-1941) was a pioneering Indian painter of mixed Punjabi Sikh and Hungarian heritage who revolutionized Indian art by depicting everyday people, particularly women and the poor, with remarkable depth and emotional resonance; her groundbreaking work bridged Western artistic techniques with Indian cultural themes, establishing her as a radical modernist who fundamentally redefined the trajectory of Indian art.

Mira Nair’s next is title Amri - details inside! #miranair #amri #anjalisivaramanAdded:
Let's talk Mira Nair's next. Now, I believe there was a massive global casting process that saw some of Bollywood's brightest stars really eyeing this role. Now, Mira Nair, she has officially cast Anjali Shivaraman to portray the legendary painter Amrita Sher-Gil in the upcoming biopic which has been titled Amri. Now, Mira Nair alongside renowned casting director Dilip Shankar, they reportedly auditioned over 100 actresses. Now, this search it spanned from Mumbai to London to New York testing both established icons and fresh faces as well. So, I do hear names like Deepti Dimri, Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Pandey, Wamiqa Gabbi, these were all in for, you know, the running of this role, but Mira, she ultimately pivoted towards Anjali's very raw intensity and striking resemblance to the original painter. Now, Anjali, she stars in the lead role as legendary painter herself whilst two-time Oscar nominee Emily Watson portrays her mother Marie Antoinette and Jaideep Ahlawat is also part of this. He plays her father Umrao Singh Sher-Gil, Christian Zaccarini as Victor Egan, Anjana Vasan as Indira Sher-Gil and Jim Sarbh, who I haven't seen for a while, as an art critic Carl Khandalavala. Now, Priyanka Chopra, she also joins the production in the role of Madam Azurie and she also serves as the executive producer on this project as well. So, this is sounding like such a fascinating one.
Now, the story, it follows the life of Sher-Gil between 1915 and 1941 and the movie is going to focus on her journey from studying art in Paris to her revolutionary work in India where she captured the lives of women and the poor. Now, as a daughter of a Punjabi Sikh father and a Hungarian mother, Amrita she became or Amrita became a radical modernist who redefined Indian art by painting everyday people with incredible depth. So, I'm so so excited for this.
