When you shake a soda can, you trap thousands of microscopic air bubbles inside the liquid, creating 'nucleation sites.' Upon opening the can, the pressure drops dramatically, and according to Le Chatelier's Principle, the dissolved CO2 gas is forced out of the liquid to restore equilibrium. This process is driven by a massive increase in entropy and real-gas behavior (fugacity), causing the tiny bubbles to expand exponentially and propel the soda outward in an explosive manner.
