SAFETY SECURED AFTER ROUTINE WIN OVER DUNDEE UNITEDAdded:
Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Red Tinted Glasses podcast. It's Sunday evening. We're just one week away from the season concluding and we're doing a couple of live episodes this week. The first of which is tonight and Andy, it is yet another positive result from Podry that we've got to review on.
>> Absolutely. um just as we'd hoped for. I you know a really good strong end to the season it's appearing we've got one home game still to go but in terms of you know the home form you can't really ask for much more than three straight wins three clean sheets and uh you know we now try and you know round that off in style uh with the visit of St. in on Tuesday. But um no, that was arguably the the best one yet. Uh certainly in terms of the manner of the the win and the performance um and the comfortable nature of it. Um it just seemed very convincing from you know start to finish barring maybe a couple of little spells in the second half but we'll get on to that and uh you know it's job done.
Yeah, there there there was a couple of you while Dungeon Knight obviously had that goal disallowed for offside the the penalty that never was but could have been I suppose but yeah, you know, I I did say on that that it um it in the title of the episode it very much felt routine. you said comfortable and I think you know the emphasis there being on you know turning Padre back into that that fortress as you said not only three straight wins but three without concession four undefeated now under Steven Robinson at home and I'm sure he'll be eager to make that five as his former side visit on Tuesday night but it did feel a rather comfortable um afternoon and I don't know it probably could have been more comfortable had to allan and you not um fluff his lines a few times up until the 90th minute.
>> I know it it it just brought about such a sense of relief for for the guy himself when you know his goal finally came towards the end of the game. um cuz you know he he was such a pivotal figure in us playing well and and winning the game and and caused so much of a of a headache for the the Dundy United defense as he has done in previous games as well. Um and it almost looked as if it was just becoming a bit of a recurring theme that's that follows on from previous games where you know for all his efforts he he just can't find the net but I'm not sure if he could have really missed the one that he did stick away. Um yeah, I mean hopefully now that he's up and running. I know it's only two games to go, so we're not really looking for a big run from him or anything that's going to catapult us up the table, but um no, hopefully it will do his confidence good. And you know, it might well, you know, give him something to to work with as you know, a decision is maybe made on his future.
>> Well, that's it. You know, I was going to touch on there. You know, you said, you know, given the fact there's only two games to go, it's not exactly going to put him on a a run and give him the world of good, but I'm sure finding the back of the net will give him confidence given the misses in the Livingston game and leading up to finding the back of the net. But where do you stand on the the the signing of Tioles moving forward in the summer? You know, I think he's a disruptor uh it for for defenses and I think it's quite ironic that Jim Goodwin and his team spent the week preparing for that and then failed to deal with it throughout the 90 minutes. But it it is it is he a player you would like to see return to podry next next season? Well, that point you make there, Glenn, about, you know, preparing to face, you know, a player like uh Allesnaga, there's very little you can really do on on the day once he gets into full flow.
you know, if he's confident and he um is at it on a a given match day, then you know, the preparation that you do can sometimes be null and void because, >> you know, he just has that little X factor and >> um you know, just something that we've lacked in our side for for quite some time. He's the good thing the strong argument for retaining him, which I'm on board with just to to put that out there as well. But, you know, the strong argument is one that Steven Robinson himself, I think, touched on in one of the interviews after the game where he knows and he's worked with him before, but he knows that he's not, you know, the finished product at this point. Um, I can't actually remember off the top of my head. You might be able to help. Um, how how old is he now, Tio Lasagna?
>> Oh, you've caught me out with that one.
Google on that one.
>> Um, >> yeah. I mean, I think the other thing I suppose if you want to say counts in his favor is he has that relationship with Steven Robinson and he knows how to get the best out of him as we saw obviously during their time working together at Submitten.
I think, you know, we need to see a bit more clinicalness in front of goals from him. Um, but I think he's also been an asset to to Kevin Nisbbit in supporting Kevin up front who's ultimately had a a tough job being that lone striker for large parts. Um, and you could see that the relief in his face um when Tio found the back of the net um as Graeme Gibbs says, you know, he set one up, scored one, and obviously played a part in getting their player sent off, but was otherwise poor. What a combination that is. I in terms of this isn't just aimed at Teaosi in general, but I like this point from from Graeme when we were speaking earlier about the game. You know, it was routine, it was comfortable. But Graeme Gibbs says, "Can I be greedy and ask for a bit more quality?
>> Is that fair to say or is that just something that we've maybe got to put up with for the next two games?" And then we'll look for that quality starting in well July the in the group stages um of the League Cup before we hit the the season starting. I I get exactly where it comes from, but my counter to that would be that we've probably seen um evidence this season of doing the opposite and and bringing in quality because on paper uh in terms of you know what's been achieved in careers and um you know other clubs you know people like Carlson even Milanovic um >> I'm just trying to think off the top of my head who else maybe Ashish as well that we've had this season on paper, these guys look to be, you know, far better than an Olasnagna. Um, but, you know, do they suit Scottish football? Do they do they work in our team and in our style?
regardless of, you know, a player's track record. If there's evidence to show that, you know, they're a functional asset that that links up well with other players in our in our side and, you know, it can be the difference making and um you know, turning draws into victories as we've seen in the last three home games, then >> I'm not really too fussed about what their track record and their pedigree is. Um, >> and I suppose in Lasagna's case, you know, we can see that there's definitely work to go, but >> yeah, and >> he's proven within this league at St. Mirin and he's he's proving himself to an extent here at this club, but I can't be bothered. 1903 says, has he been any better than than Peter Ambrose?
I suppose you could say Peter Ambrose hasn't really been afforded a chance and whether or not he will be afforded one in in the summer remains to be seen.
Could it come down to to wages and affordability because I'm sure he was earning a nice pay packet over in in America as well. But again, I do think that the maybe the the sway of working with someone that that brought the best out of him could play a factor in him returning next season. Um, that's one to to keep an eye on in terms of also I know we're kind of maybe going to deviate about, but that's the joys of doing a live episode >> in terms of retaining for for next season kind of a follow-up question from can't be bothered was getting our thoughts on the the Graeme Shinn contract. Could his wage be better spent elsewhere? Obviously, we saw Graeme come on for Dennis Guyger yesterday.
um who to be honest I thought Dennis Guyger had a had an excellent game in that meal midfield. Again we could really see the quality that that he brought um and again I do think a player that we're going to lose in the summer um for for one reason or another but again talks seem to be underway between Steven Robinson and Graeme Shenita to retain him next season. Um, again just some thoughts on that around that development of things.
>> Well, I I agree. I think Geger was, you know, really good yesterday. Um, obviously got injured, which I think Shinny was being prepared to come on anyway around about that time. But whether the injury, you know, accelerated that or, you know, whether it would have been for Guyer, I I don't know. We'll never know. But >> I do think Shinny made a a huge difference to our performance when he came on as well cuz it kind of broke the the sequence of Dundy United's strongest spell in the game where >> yeah, >> you know, they had made changes at halftime and and started to cause us problems and there was maybe an element of us trying to sit on what we had for I don't think we would have done that for the entire second half to be fair, but um you know we'd maybe tried to do that for a little bit too long and and you you know, could have left ourselves vulnerable to um you know, one of their either set pieces or long throws just landing in the wrong area. But Shinny um you know, it's not the first time we've seen him come on and make an impact. Um as long as he's comfortable with the the fact that he won't start every game, as he didn't yesterday, then >> yeah, >> I I think it it's likely to be a move that that's beneficial for all parties.
Um and and so in that regard I would I would certainly like to see him stay on.
Yeah.
>> If he's not starting week in week out, does he retain club captain status for you?
>> Probably. Um I mean at the moment he does take the armband from this bit when he comes on.
>> Um I guess it depends on who we sign in the summer. We've seen different ways of going about this over the years where, you know, in one case it was handed to to Joe Lewis. Um, you know, when we didn't really have an obvious outfield candidate. Um, so you can sort of look around the squad and and cherrypick a player based on that. But and and that's probably how Nisbet ended up with it because, you know, he's never been a captain before to my knowledge. and >> yeah, >> he's maybe just the most experienced uh player that we we have at the at the minute.
>> But we've also seen us, you know, sign a player that that is brought in to be the captain. The most recent one I can think of maybe doesn't lay a very good precedent for this because it was Anthony Stewart. But um yeah, maybe as I say, it depends on who we sign in the summer, what the whole thought process behind Shinn's role in the team is because I mean I have no doubt that if he was to string a couple of good performances together, he could force his way into being quite a regular fixture in the side. Um, >> I think the other thing as well, you've also got, you know, you mentioned Kevin Nisbbit as as someone at the club already obviously takes the armband at this moment in time, but your other option in terms of if you're looking at the current squad would be Matt Kuster. Um, again, if we're going about players that are wellliked within the squad, building on the fact that he won players player, >> I do like probably more of a defensive player or in that rather than a striker.
But >> it it will be interesting to see if it what happens around that because again, you you're right, we could end up signing someone for that. Um, another thing to to kind of speak about from yesterday that that certainly took me by surprise was Jack Mil um taking the the place of Alexander Yansen who missed out through injury. Um, not in the match day squad at all. Jack filling in a a right wing back. A lot of conflicting opinions on Jack's performance. Um, you know, I think he did a a solid job. probably the job he was there to do. However, I said to Keith at halftime, I said, "We've got absolutely nothing going forward on that right hand side because, >> you know, as we've seen with Alexander Yansen, Dylan Lobin, who have featured there, obviously we had Nikki Develin on the bench as well >> who who comes on for Jack later on willing to to push up. I I didn't feel we got that out of Jack Mil. Some people uh you know said Jack was in the squad to counter Dundy Knight's height, counter the the diagonals that they would play out to to Will Ferry. So it was a sensible selection.
But the the the question for me is I suppose you could argue if Nikki Develin was fitting enough for minutes, why is he not fit enough to start or can't be bothered said that as as we came live?
Where's Dylan Lobin? And you may not have seen this because of you know your pre-match um location but but Dylan loin Kar Kartinson were both taking part in some form of warm-up pre-atch as well but I don't believe there's any injury concerns around Dylan especially. So why not play him? Do you think it was tactical or >> um it might have been an element of you know just wanting to try it out? I mean he has played there before. I think when he first one of his earliest games I remember him playing for us was against Frankfurt and >> pretty sure he played if not right wing back then certainly right back you know in that area.
>> Yeah.
>> Um long time ago now. Um but you know it was maybe an element of trying to just see what like knowing that Develin would come on >> um later in the game but obviously Develin wasn't ready to start and and play you know a full match at this stage in his return. So >> um seeing him back on was a huge boost actually. I was glad to see that and I think he will you know be the type that Steven Robinson really warms to. Uh so with that in mind um actually means we've got three out and out sort of right wing back options that you would say are all ahead of Jack Milm in in the pecking order. So I don't think we'll see it again but because I I get your point about going forward as well >> completely fluffed his lines in front of goal.
>> Yeah. Yeah. No, absolutely. um just didn't feel he was okay, but he didn't look totally comfortable and at ease in that position. He didn't look unnatural for it. Um maybe just a sign that he has become just so human to being a center half this season.
>> Yeah. And I think it's, you know, there's nothing for me against his general performance because I thought he looked, as I said, okay. And as you maybe alluded to the fact that we've got comfortable with him being shoehorned into to center back, but I think it's just in terms of where you try and play with wing backs. It was very clear he didn't look comfortable in that that sort of role. And I thought he was, you know, every time he tried to beat a man, if there was contact, he was throwing himself to the floor, just buying cheap free kicks instead, which I get, you know, you try and relieve the pressure, get us off the pitch. But I don't know just I just felt we had no flow on one side of the pitch um with Jack and that as we would have and you know I think had Alexander Yensen played in that position yesterday and put in that performance he'd have been absolutely slaughtered given what we've seen of fans reactions to his performances so far this season.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Well, it is such an important position for us now because it it really, you know, it brings, you know, pretty much all of our natural width um you know, both in a defensive sense and going forward. So, >> you know, the guys that play in the wing back roles really need to cover all bases and, you know, be comfortable in that that role. Um, you know, you do get little passages further up the field that, you know, bring players out wide.
We saw that with Olesna really for the the opener.
>> Um, and, you know, that that's good.
That's nice to see that because it, you know, that sort of flexibility in the final third is something I felt we really lacked in the early stages of the campaign.
>> Um, you know, just that variety of movement that that we were getting from attacking players. But um >> a word on the opener as well. Um a quality finish from a quality player we know has quality in Stuart Armstrong as well, of course, scoring against his former club. But for me, not only was it good to see that goal in general, but another game where I think we're seeing the the fruits of that Aru Armstrong partnership in the middle of the pitch.
And again, as we've touched on a couple of times since that partnership's developed, >> it allows us to get the best out of Stuart Armstrong for an hour, 70 minutes, and then bring on another combative midfielder if needed in Graham Shinn.
>> Obviously, he comes on for Dennis Gger um who picks up the injury, but you've also then got the quality of Ante Palver who's also got a lot of energy in that midfield as well. So, I actually think the way it's kind of worked so far has has benefited us. Yeah, I think we've been looking for that combination all season, truth be told. Um, you know, we went into the January window with a lot of midfield players and a lot of them very highly rated by, you know, a lot of fans. Um, rightly so. You know, there's still an argument to be made as to, you know, whether we emerged stronger or weaker from that January window. We won't go there. But, >> um, you know, in terms of where we're at now, >> you're you are starting to see a little bit of a pattern emerging. Just exactly what you see there. you know, you've got two that complement one another, you know, combative player in Amu who's doing a lot of heavy lifting and putting himself about and and freeing up Armstrong to be that attacking force that we remember him being earlier in his career when he'd, you know, much faster legs than he does now.
>> Yeah. to just, you know, shall we say.
>> Um, but, you know, he still has quality and he still has an eye to be in a position where he can pull off a finish like he did on Saturday. So, you know, it's good to see us looking to play to the strengths of some of our midfield assets and um, you know, just making it look a lot more exciting and energetic around the final third. Mhm.
>> And at the other end of the pitch as well, I think, you know, we've spoken about that being three clean sheets at home. Um, I think he's a player that very much goes under the radar. Um, but I thought Gavin Malloy again was was superb and I know he's a player that's really struggled with with injuries during his time at Padre and I just hope he kind of comes through these next couple of games unscathed as well as preseason. um and he can build on what's been a strong end to to this season for him personally now that he's picking up regular minutes as well. Um one other thing that I want to speak about now off the back of that that victory uh against United is that you know there's there's certainly been talk that I've I've heard over the weekend um that the club have have got preseason plans in place. there's a plan there.
How important is that? Do you think that the club have that in place now and going into these last two games can have almost one eye on on their preseason and building for next season? Well, I mean, I think you take this season as being the prime example of uh, you know, why it is so important really because uh, you know, without going over old ground, we can see, you know, the impact that, you know, a little bit of a scatter gun preseason had on our start to the the campaign. Um, and a preseason doesn't only, you know, set you up for the the beginning of the campaign, it it really can carry you through the entire thing.
um such an important kind of thing to have in place. So it doesn't surprise me that you know the club have been working away at that in the background. Um becomes easier now that you know we're sure of our status in the Premiership.
>> Mhm. But you know it's been looking that you know we talk now that it's mathematically confirmed but you know I think since the Karna game to be honest we've been you know preparing for top flight football >> pretty seriously. So >> yeah. No, you know look forward to to seeing what the plans are and um you know I'm sure again Stephen Robinson will I mean we've only got a week less than a week or so to to go of the the season now. So, you know, it's fair to say he'll be casting his mind towards that period. Um, and he's got the energy of a a new manager that's desperate to to make his mark. I mean, he's already done that to a degree in terms of accomplishing what he was initially brought in to do and and stabilizes, >> but you know, his his remit extends much further into the the long term. And this really this period leading into preseason and the League Cup group stage is his first chance to >> to really put the marker down for what he's looking to to bring us over a number of years.
>> Absolutely. And of course, if you know fans are allowed to attend the the games that will be will be planned for for this trip, then at least we'll get some form of European adventure um this summer. Not the the European obviously adventure that we were hoping for. Um, in terms of succession planning for for next season, there's obviously been again some some transfer talk which we we can discuss before we we go into discussing that St. Miden game. Um there's been some talk and again I know you've got former colleagues that that cover this club in particular, but the the futures of both Alfie Stewart and uh Al Alfie Bavage have been touted this weekend or week past I should say with them potentially still having hope of retaining a place at the football club. Do you think that holds any weight or is this Aberdeene trying to cover themselves so that they h don't miss out on any development fee that they would be entitled when they inevitably rejoin Cali at the end of >> that's certainly the the cynical way of looking at it. Um >> me never >> it see it seems quite strange that um you know they were they were told that in the first place um you know when you know I mean that that is a a well established rule now and I do remember just to keep it relevant to Kalitha. So the the season that they were relegated from the championship they shot themselves in the foot by not offering Cameron Harper a new deal and he's gone and done really well down at Carlilele.
um that they would have got, you know, quite high five figures for for him at a period when they needed money desperately in the club. So, you know, I've I've seen that backfire before and yeah, I mean, obviously, it's not going to be make or break stuff for Aberdine.
But >> no, >> um it just it surprises me about the sort of the previous regime the way that that whole situation has been handled because it does seem as if it was some time ago that um you know the the two Alfies were told that there's no future for them and and obviously as we know Finley Marshall was told the same and and that's been overruled now. So >> I'm glad that we've got a structure in place that's a little bit more um amanable to the younger players that are trying to make their mark now. Um, I think, you know, Luke Spannensteel clearly is driving that and Steven Robinson's got a, you know, a good eye for what's coming through the ranks as well and and a good grasp of, you know, the Scottish football scene when it comes to these guys going out on loan. I think he's he's going to be the type of manager that that really keeps a a close eye on that. Um, so, you know, whether we see the two of them in an Aberdeene shirt or whether they come back to haunt us later in their careers, you know, we we don't know at this point, but you know, I'd certainly hope that that scenario doesn't rear its head again.
>> Absolutely. But one other thing that's maybe kind of come out as a surprise, it was Peter Oor on Twitter that was that posted that the club are open to offers for uh Dimitar Meov.
Um, I know people will say that I'm maybe not being Dimitar Me's biggest fan this season, but he has come up clutch in the last couple of games with some big saves.
Are you surprised that the club are willing to listen to offers for for Dimitar? If true, then yeah, it does seem quite a a strange um you know, thing to be out there. But you know, I suppose all will become clear when you know, we we get into the summer and we see whether you know, a new goalkeeper is part of the um you know, the priority list.
>> I mean, we've got four on the books currently in ML, brought V, Suman, and VTOL. So, and I I know Theo Simpson obviously had a promising season, a Bucky as well, but you know, you're not going to, you know, put a 17, 18 year old into the the squad straight away, but >> Yeah. Yeah.
>> We we're clearly blessed in in that area. It just seems like it's pretty much come out the blue. And obviously for for Bratbite, he'll only have >> a one-year deal left on on his time at the club. So uh I mean I would be surprised I think but interested to see what sort of offers that the club would be wanting for for Demtor.
>> Yeah because he he's got one more year left in his contract. I think I'm right in saying um but no what I was meaning by that was you know it might be that Steven Rollinsson actually you know goes out actively in pursuit of a a new number one. you know, even though we've got four goalkeepers on the books, he might still think that, you know, he can go and get someone that's better than than all four. And if that's the case, then obviously it will be self-evident that that, you know, me is available to other clubs. Um, I I wouldn't, you know, I I like you have been critical of me at stages of the season. I felt he was probably dropped if if not at the right time, then maybe too late, actually. But then and again, we didn't really have, you know, Suman is not one that many people had seen. Um, and it wasn't until Brat Vite came in that we maybe had, you know, experienced backup available. Um, begs the question, you know, if they weren't prepared to to give Suman a chance, then, you know, why bring him in in the first place? But, >> well, I mean, the reason why you bring Bratvite in was because Suman picked up that that injury. So, >> yeah. Yeah.
I mean, the club's hand was kind of forced on on that point, but then it was how much did they trust VTOS as as a backup, but you know, all this kind of points to me is um I look forward to to seeing Shamal George between the sticks next season.
But again, that's just the me. Um speaking of um Steven Robinson and former players where he might be looking, it's his former team Andy that come to Padre on Tuesday night. And to be honest, what a contrast from the last time we faced St. Men where >> down in Paisley ultimately it was the Donso looked down and out come full time. Steven Robinson some had some harsh truths for his players. Craig Mcclleas was the new messiah on the block in Paisley. However, it's St. Miden that find themselves on the chopping block as they sit in that playoff place after a 3-0 defeat to Karnick at the weekend. And the Dons could consign Steven Robinson's former side to that playoff spot with a victory over the Buddies on Tuesday night. That would be quite something, wouldn't it?
If we can do that, >> considering where we were and how we all felt after that game in Paisley, then I think we would all have taken this. I mean, I I wish no particular ill on St. Mirin, but you know, it would be quite a an accomplishment to kind of turn that exact narrative that you put on on its head within the space of a month. Um because yeah, I mean we we were being tipped to, you know, continue to to slide after that two-nil defeat. Um Craig Mcclesich was you know being hailed as as a revolutionary kind of coach and you know I do feel a bit of sympathy for him because it's not nice to see a young you know clearly talented coach uh come under such fire you know because the fans by the the looks of things are are really starting to to panic I think uh based on what they're seeing.
>> It's not like that fan base to be angry though.
>> Yeah. But, you know, clearly, you know, we we're in a really strong position compared to to where we were then. And, you know, I would certainly back us to to go and, you know, get the job done um on on Tuesday based on >> in terms of getting the job done on Tuesday. Is that then continuing with the kind of similar starting 11 that that we've seen? You know, we spoke about this >> Yeah. Yeah, preund United game about you know once we secured that safety mathematically maybe result pending of course um because of course that safety could have been mathematically secured just with Karnick winning alone let alone us doing our end of the bargain >> is there any room do you think in Steven Robinson's mind for some experimentation um going into Tuesday night you know again I use the likes of Nicholas Milanovich as an example about someone that was you know allegedly going to be afforded a chance to to prove himself under Steven Robinson. We've not seen a lot of Toby Keskinan recently as well under Steven Robinson.
Neither Marco Lazatic as well. Or do you think this is an opportunity that Steven Robinson's going to take with two two hands, sorry, to to really um get one over his old club and and consign them to that playoff place?
>> Um I I can see there being a bit of experimentation. Um, and it might just be purely because, you know, we're going to have three games in a week as well.
>> Yeah.
>> So, I think there would kind of have to be some element of change there. I when you talk about the Dundy United game, you know, it's something that we touched on earlier, but we maybe saw the the first signs of that with Jack Milton being at right wing back. You know, something that um you know, Robinson wanted to have a look at knowing that he's played there briefly in the past and wanted to see in the event of, you know, Lobin, Yensen, Develin, any combination of the above >> being injured, you know, what what Jack Nolan could do in that position. Uh, so it wouldn't surprise me to see a couple um, you know, players that that haven't had many minutes given a a chance from the start in this one. Um, I don't think it'll be wholesale, but >> um, no, it would be it would be nice.
It's the final home game of the season as well, so you know, you do want to see something a little bit different. Um, and and you want to come away from it, you know, having learned something as well. Would you rather would you rather come away with it having learned something or having come away with from the final home game with with three points? Because, you know, I think from a narrative point of view, if I use that word from a couple of episodes ago, is it's going into that close season knowing that we're five unbeaten at Padre potentially four four clean sheets as well and and really build that I suppose narrative again to use that is the Padre is a hard place to come ultimately. Yes, you can throw that back and say, "Look, we've played four of those five games against bottom six sides, but to to to hold a very impressive Falerk side to to a point, and really we should have beaten them as well um is something I suppose given the the injury, Dennis Guyger, um likely maybe to to miss out and and Graeme Shinny is the obvious person to to come in to to fill his spot unless he wants to give Palaver a very rare um start, but you know, I was trying to to scribble down where I I might see a couple of other changes um for for Tuesday night, but I can't really see any other than that that Geiger for Shinny. Um >> yeah, >> potentially Mitchell frame coming in for Ganthy, but again, there no real need or reason to to to that to be a change. I just wonder if, you know, as you said, with it being the last home game, if Steven Robinson and and the squad would rather, you know, end on a high and then you use the the trip down to Dundee is the the game for exper experimenting because >> there was a part of me that felt um Saturday very much had that end of season feel to it.
>> Tuesday night probably a little bit different given that St. Marin are very much fighting for their their premiership safety. But if anyone felt that Saturday had an end of season feel to it, I'm very much sure um a week today when we head to Den Park will all but have that end of season feel to it given both sides are secure of their um Premiership status for next season.
>> Yeah, that's that's very true. Certainly the the first half yesterday felt completely like that. Um maybe when Dundy United came at us a little bit more, then you started to to feel it a little bit more as a contest. But um No, I get what you're saying. Um, the game on Sunday, you know, Dundy are a point behind us just now, I think, aren't they? So, >> yeah.
>> I mean, we to be fair, we could, depending on results on Tuesday, you know, we could be guaranteed to to finish above Dundee and, you know, >> just be going toe-to-toe with United for league positions. you know, ultimately we do want to try and keep that pursuit of seventh place alive going into the last day as well. So, >> there's enough there to, you know, as I say, it's not going to >> I don't think anyone's going to be losing any sleep over it. But, you know, it gives us something to at least aim for at this stage of the season, which um in the safety of of being, you're sure of Premiership football.
>> Yeah.
>> You know, it's it's a pretty good outcome for us. and um you know although there's not a huge amount riding on it, you still want to try and you know finish the season unbeaten.
That's that's really the target now.
>> Yeah, absolutely. And you >> you spoke about that um what both of us did a few few episodes ago about, you know, building that not only confidence but momentum and and that and that I think finishing the season unbeaten would give them a huge bout of confidence going into the postseason.
But, you know, I think again it's it's right to highlight, you know, giving the fans a perfect send off in terms of three points uh on Tuesday night. You know, for me, um Saturday was the last time that I had Rory at Padre for this season um because he doesn't do midweek games um being one of the reasons. And you know, as we as we walked out, he he turned around and said, "Dad, I've really enjoyed that game today." I mean to be honest there's not been much to enjoy in terms of going to Padre this season but the fact for him his season at Padri ended on a high was satisfying enough for me. So hopefully everybody else's season up at Padre uh ends on a high on Tuesday night. Uh we'll be back on Thursday night uh in all likelihood given Wednesday's got a big saying this the season that is Scottish football and I'm sure there'll be a lot of eyes tuned into to that on on Wednesday. So, we we'll probably reconvene on Thursday to to review the action from Tuesday night's game and then we'll look ahead to the the the season ending uh trip to Dan's Park as well. But, you know, the challenges keep coming. Um and andy, I'll give you the floor for for a brief second because you've got your own challenge that you're undertaking uh in the summer. The the link to to donate to the cause is in the description of the the YouTube video. and will also be in the description of the audio um as well.
So Andy, what challenge are you undertaking because it's quite grueling and of course for fans of the podcast there's maybe an opportunity to to join you on that as well.
>> Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's been inspired um and driven by um you know esophageal cancer is is something that's affected my family. I lost my dad to the the illness five years ago. Um and and earlier this year um I've got a cousin that lives in a place called Glenn Elg. It's a it's a village in the the West Coast in the Highlands. Um who was diagnosed with it um at the age of 39 and you know like myself as young family. So, you know, just the whole the whole illness, you know, really started to, you know, affect me a little bit. And, you know, it's a horrible cancer to to receive. I mean, every cancer is horrible to >> to receive, but it, you know, it's a hard one to treat. And, >> um, you know, he's undergoing treatment now, but, uh, you know, it just it it got me thinking about ways that I could, you know, perform some sort of challenge and and do my bit for the cause because there's a lot of good work going on. Um, so I've I've touched base with cancer research and and I'm going to attempt to uh to walk the um well I suppose the width of um Aberdine to Glenn Elk uh a coast to coast challenge spanning 200 miles over over the period of two weeks in June July time. Um start on June the 21st at the beach. maybe a a bacon roll and a coffee at the inverse network cafe to set me on my way. And yeah, with a few stops along the way um you know along Dside Abby Moore kind of spaceside and and then into um you know closer towards the west coast um you know I'm going to aim to be in Glenn Elk by Saturday the 4th of July. So yeah, um I've obviously got the fundraising page up and running and you know, anything um that's received there is is going to be hugely welcomed and you know really inspire me to to complete the challenge.
But um you know depending on where people are based as well. I'm very much keen to you know not be alone. Although it'll only be me that's doing the whole thing for me to be or >> start to finish should I say. Um, you know, I've already got people that are up for doing a day with me uh along the journey. I think there's only three or four days that I'm looking to do alone.
So, >> are you going to be passing Fort William? Peter Le asks, >> "Not Fort William as such." No. No. Um, Fort Augustus will be where I end up.
I'm I'm going Newton Moore to to Fort Augustus through a um quite an exposed area and and then I'll be doing the Great Glen way from Fort Augustus to Indari.
It's probably as close to Fort William as I'll be going and and from there it's it's quite a um a step into the wilderness.
>> Yeah.
>> West to the the coast from there.
>> Well, I mean it's certainly a a challenge. I'll give you that. And you know, you know, a lot of people are following what Craig Ferguson's doing in terms of walking coast to coast in America. So, you're at least keeping it closer to home and and for a a cause that's obviously close to home um for you personally as well.
>> Um I know how much that that means to you as well. So, I wish you all the best um with that challenge. Um and also anyone else who's taking part in the community trust's big um red 50 um for the 5ks for the next 50 days starting tomorrow the 11th of May. Um me and folk from work are taking part in that and I know there's a lot of people I think there's over 200 people signed up to to help worthy causes within the city for that as well. So good luck to everyone doing that. And also, if you've been listening into this episode and want to hear more of Andy's douls tones, um you can catch up on the bonus episode that was released today um as Andy sat down with Neil Simpson to discuss the book launch that that Neil has um coming out on the 11th of May. The book is called Sime and Andy went and met him on Wednesday at the Legends Lounge. Did you enjoy that chat with Neil?
>> Um thoroughly enjoyable experience. um just you know such a a proud opportunity really to to get the chance to sit down with you such a decorated player and figure within our club's history uh and just how good he was with his time his his recall his willingness to to go in I mean it it was quite difficult to condense it into you know half an hour of a conversation because >> you know he was um you know willing to to go into all areas of his you know his career here really.
>> So, >> you know, it was really to try and provide a um a little bit of a snapshot into what people can expect to read when they they pick up the book. Um I know from speaking to him that he's got a lot of meet and greet events that are planned right across the country in that interview as well that you did.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Um so, I hope it all goes well for for Simmyi in in the first instance, but um you know, he's done a lot of media this week as well. Um, so it was a privilege to, you know, on behalf of the podcast to be asked along to, um, you know, to spend some time with him and I hope it's uh, well received.
>> Yeah. No, absolutely. I listened back to it uh, last night. We've we got Callum on board to do some of the editing to to reduce some of the background noise because obviously with it being kind of one of our first in-person interviews for a while, um, there was some editing needing done. So, it was actually a good collective teamwork from everyone involved in in the podcast. I was just a bit gutted that it was financial year end, so I couldn't get along to to join you for that as well. But, um, yeah, no, good job on that one, and I'm sure it will be well received, as will the book itself, as I said, which comes out on the 11th of May. The links to buy that book, you can find in the, uh, description of the episode um, that Andy's done. If you're watching on YouTube, that interview is in the interview um, section. And of course, you can go back and find all previous player interviews we've done there as well if you're looking for some content over the close season, which we'll maybe try and get some more uh former players on. And I'm going to utilize Andy's contact books. Maybe not as extensive as loots, but I'm sure there's some contacts in there that we could uh chat to. But until next time, thanks very much for tuning into this episode of Red Tinted Glasses. We'll see you next time.
