Men are biologically wired to be visually stimulated by women's bodies, but this does not mean they prefer women to dress provocatively in public; the key distinction is between being excited by visual stimulation and actually wanting women to dress in that manner, with men typically preferring modest dress in public settings while reserving more provocative attire for private intimacy with their wives.

Dennis Prager. The male female hour.
Sometimes the male female hour is so honest and that's [music] what it's about that I tell you it's not a good idea for kids under 10 to hear it.
today. I think I think we're pretty free. Is that is that fair to say? I think so. I mean, you'll make up your mind, but I I I think so. Hi everybody.
I talk about the real real issues of men and women on the male female hour and I want to read to you a letter I received after last week's show and it came from a an orthodox in factic woman uh uh in fact one I know who is the wife of a a prominent uh kabad rabbi that's that's an ultraorththodoxic uh group in Judaism and she uh uh Braha Sapachinsky is is her name and she's very very bright and writes me periodically. This is what she wrote last week. Thank you Dennis for the great men Women Hour yesterday and it was it was about the visual the effect of the visual on men and how different it is from the effect of the visual on women.
In fact, she she notes, "I loved your line about women being more interested in looking at photos of table legs than men's legs," which is something I said on the show, which is true.
Whereas, if you asked men, would you rather look at women's legs or table legs, they would think that you were nuts. It's like asking, "Would you rather breathe or suffocate?" It's it's in that realm of the obvious.
So, thank you for the show. Oh, I I talked to and she mentioned her husband because it is something we discussed many times before. You said on the program, this is something your husband would not tell you, but he does not fall into that category at all. And which is a credit to both of you, by the way.
Now, here is today's theme. She writes, "Have you ever asked men if they like to have women around them dressed scantily or if they would prefer to have them more modestly dressed?" Of course, every man would instinctively say the first, but I wonder if after a little bit of thought, they might just prefer the second choice. You mentioned that you would like to do an hour on modesty. I am really looking forward to that one.
Well, Braha, here is your uh your request is granted. I feel sort of like Aladdin's lamp here. you know, she rubbed she rubbed on the uh on the lamp and and voila, which by the way shows I read your mail, folks. I can't respond.
I didn't even get a chance to respond to her, but uh I do and if you have thoughts and reactions, they are they are absolutely invaluable to me.
I was asked this question a long time ago and I'm very open on these issues and that's why people ask me well Dennis uh uh what it went something like so as a man do you like when women uh wear very revealing clothing or scantily dressed as as Braha Sapachinsky put it and I said and this is this is this was a key answer the male in me loves it the man in me doesn't see every man who thinks forget the values issue even every man who thinks just thinks knows that the man and the male are uh in conflict that's why I call this the male female hour incidentally it's deeper than the manwoman hour it's the male female hour see women have to fight the female but different parts The problem and I've said this and we'll do another show on this is that girls are not raised to fight the female in themselves because our society because of the age of stupidity in which we live has announced that everything female is naturally beautiful. It's the males that have to have their aggression their sexual predatory nature which is true.
We do we men do have to fight those things.
The women have nothing to fight in their imminent nature. Okay, that's a separate uh subject obviously, but the so the answer is to for a man who thinks this through. Of course, it's exciting when women show their bodies.
That's the point of it. It literally is exciting. Yes, that's how you excite men, at least those who aren't blind.
And I'm not being facitious. Blind men are are stimulated in other ways. And I'm not saying it's the only way, but it is it is the it is the first way, the visual. We talked about that in previous show and you you're free to uh download it and you should in fact and play it for one another. It's easier often for a wife to hear a stranger than her husband or and vice versa for a woman to hear a stranger perhaps than his wife saying certain things.
So it Yes. Yes. We men are excited by the visual. No question. So, do we like the micro skirt? Well, we're excited by the micro skirt. Do we like it? Well, that's a different story.
That's why when you Oh, men love women in bikinis. Men love women in in short skirts.
Well, it's not precise. Men are excited by women showing more of their more of their body. Do we like it? Well, it depends what like means. And I'm not being Clintonian of depends what the definition of is is. It depends what like means. Yes, if you like being excited, especially by someone that you will be able to uh consummate that excitement with, preferably hopefully ideally your wife, that's spectacular.
But as a general rule, well, it depends how much a man wishes to be governed by his libido because every time just not even in just life in picture this happens, he's distracted.
When I was much younger, I remember I remember a friend who was a a real character uh who pointed out an attractive woman walking in the street in a short skirt. And the truth is, I bumped into the car in front of me at a red light, [laughter] which brought him so much joy that I I couldn't I couldn't even be angry. I was disgusted at myself.
[laughter] I mean, it was 2 miles per hour. I was already, you know, basically stopped at the red light. But that gives you an idea of the power of the visual. And it is distracting. It is entirely distracting. Absolutely. That is one of the reasons that men love to have all men's groups much more than women like to have all women's groups.
We like to have we like to have men's clubs and golf clubs and and when Rotary clubs were all men, not to discuss business. I was a member of the Rotary Club for three years. The guys weren't talking business. They were just talking guy stuff. There was a peace that reigned because there was no sexual tension.
Now there there are times it's fantastic to be with women and my point is that hardly that all I'm a moderate on this you know so don't don't think that because I say X therefore Y is never good but this notion that men like it no men are stimulated by it and and young girls who were listening high school college girls please know that what you often call attractive is to a man just a sexual come on he doesn't know the word attractive. He knows the word turn on.
Now, if you want to turn men on and that's a high for you, fine. Know what you're doing.
My point here is not moral judgment. I make them all the time moral judgments.
But the point here is clarity. You'll make the moral judgments.
Now, let me tell you a story that that especially young women should know.
I was the director of an educational institute in California for 7 years and in the summer during the year couples came but during the summer college and graduate age students in other words kids 19 to 25 came. I was only in my late 20s and early 30s so I was very close in age to them but I was the director of this institute.
So boys and girls, young men and young women, ages 19 to 25 would come. It was the summer.
And I will tell you when we come back the story of a particularly attractive, particularly well-endowed young woman.
And what she what she said to me one day, cuz I met with every one of the students privately, and she and they opened up to me cuz for reasons I'll explain later, but she did.
[music] I'll tell you what she said about the way the guys looked at her and my response and her [music] parents' response. 18 Prager 776 the male female hour on the Dennis [music] Prager show.
This episode of Timeless Wisdom will continue right after this.
For nearly 3,000 years, Homer's The Odyssey has shaped Western imagination.
It tells the story of Odysius as he faces monsters, shipwrecks, false comforts, and impossible choices on his long journey home. As one of the foundational works of Western literature, Homer's epic is more than mythology. It explores permanent questions about courage, duty, loyalty, family, leadership, temptation, and the search for home. In one of the epic's defining moments, Odysius rejects the offer of immortality from the goddess Calypso, choosing instead the long and difficult journey home. His decision reveals one of the central themes of the Odyssey, that a life of duty, family, and home is greater than a life devoted to comfort or glory. Achilles chose glory. Odysius chose home. That's why Hillsdale College has released its newest free online course, The Odyssey, taught by Professor Benedict Wayland.
The course reveals why Homer's masterpiece remains one of the greatest works of Western literature. Find this free course at hillsdale.edu/startnow.

Now back to more [music] of Dennis Prager's timeless wisdom.
Prager it is. Hi everybody. You're listening to the Dennis Prager show, the male female hour. And I've really explained today, perhaps better than ever before, why I call it the male female hour and not the manwoman hour.
You might recall that before I began this hour. It's one of three dedicated hours that I have on the Dennis Prager show. One is to happiness, one is to ultimate issues, and one is to male, female. And this is the most recent of the three. And the the debate was man, woman, or male, female. But the male female is is goes more primal.
And as I said, the man fights the male and the woman has to fight the female nature in them both. And so I'm talking to you today especially in conjunction with the show that I did on the power of the visual to stimulate men. Far far far far infinitely more powerful than the visual stimulates women. It's just it's just a fact. I mean as that's why that that line I used about would a woman rather look at a at a magazine of men's legs or you know furniture legs there's no comparison whereas a man you know men men buy journals of women's legs so there's there's there's no there's no comparison that's the way we're made now in light of that the the issue arises of well so then what's the answer do Men really like scantily clad women? They say they do, but do they really? It's written to me by a uh what they call an ultra orthodox uh woman, the wife of a rabbi and they they run a a wonderful center and and in fact in this case I know who it is and she uh she raised the question and it's a very important question and my answer cuz I've been asked this before is the male in us I'll speak for me the male in me loves scantily clay led women. The man in me doesn't except under circumstances where it's it's desirable and important like with your wife. That's that's the ideal and she should and she should play that role by the way with her husband. That's a very important thing that you can do for your husband which we've talked about and we'll talk about again. Now let me tell you the story and then I want to take your calls.
18 Prager 77618 P A G- E R776 which is 877-243LE76 877-243LE76 so I was the director of an institute which had summer sessions we had 90 in July 90 in August of college-aged and older 19 to 25 year old kids would come this was in Southern California and they'd spend an entire month living there and of course uh they they they dressed as they would dress you know there was no code as it were of dress at the at the at the institute I met with every one of the 90 privately that was that was one of my tasks how are you doing you know open up to me about how you're reacting to the program uh how do you feel about the other kids etc etc so anyway there was one young woman I remember viv I think she was on the younger side I She was 19. She was very beautiful and she was uh she had a terrific figure and wellendowed and she let everybody know it.
That's how she dressed. She let everybody know it by the way she dressed. And uh so she came into my office and by the way to my everlasting credit if I go to heaven it will be because even though I was I was bachelor and I was only a few years older I was very very non-flirtatious totally removed and totally professional. I'm I must say I'm very proud of myself for the way I acted then but it would have killed the institute would have killed any values that I preached if in any way I were perceived as not even forget doing anything just coming on to any of the young women. So therefore they felt that they could open up to me which was one of the important things and they could. So, I was talking to her in my office and I said, "Oh, you know, I asked her the same questions I generally ask the other kids." And I said, "Well, how you getting along with the kids?" She says, "All right, but I think, you know, for whatever reason, you know, the the the guys here, you know, they treat me like I'm some sex object, and I don't feel that I could ever really just have a conversation with them." So I said to her, "Do you think that you might be doing anything that that uh that causes them to regard you in that way?" And she said, "What do you mean?"
And and and of course I'm thinking I was thinking, "What do you mean, what do I mean? [laughter] Do we live on the same planet?" But I didn't say that. I said, "Well, to be perfectly honest, it's the way you dress.
uh you uh you reveal your body, you reveal your breasts wherever pretty much whatever you wear.
And that's so you are saying to all these guys around here, look at me as a sex object that that's what you're telling them to do.
And I took a gamble because she could have said, you know, who the hell are you to talk to me that way? Or I'm going to call my parents. And I thought about that in advance and I thought, well, if she wants to call her parents, there's a telephone.
There it is. Go right ahead. There's a phone in the next room. And in fact, as it turns out, she did call her parents.
And guess what? Her parents called me and thanked me.
They were so grateful because the the parent saying this is so often less effective than somebody else saying this.
And I will never forget when I finally met the parents. They just were so grateful to me.
They said, "We don't know how to get this point across to her." And she was a very sweet girl. This, you know, her her she was this was not, you know, some some type girl. Not in the least.
She was naive as almost all women are at the beginning because how could they possibly know they know the word attractive they don't know the word exciting turn on therefore just looking I'm just showing and it's an attractive dress attractive halter top right it's an attractive short skirt I'm not telling you what to wear. I'm telling you to be aware of what the effects are. And that the notion of men liking this is a very complex question.
The male in us likes it. The man in us if we don't if we want to be able to not be distracted continually is not a big fan of it. That's the answer to the question as written by this [music] religious woman who wrote to me 18 prager 7776.
And now I go to your calls and I would like you look if I'm willing to [music] be open and you know who I am, you should certainly be willing to open cuz people don't know who you are. So this should be very helpful and you might want to play this for your young daughters, your high school [music] or college daughters or nieces. Now, back to more of [music] Dennis Prager's timeless wisdom.
>> Prager it is. And this is the male female [music] hour. Every week this hour is devoted and very openly as you [music] have obviously noticed by now to men, women, male, female issues.
>> [music] >> Women's dress is the current issue uh based on the show of course that we did on the power of the visual to rouse men and how do men like women's dress the question posed to me by a religious woman and let's uh let's go to your calls now because of the importance and by the way I have to say having said the importance of non-provocative dress I don't go to the I don't go to the other extreme however the other extreme of course is the chador is the burka is where a woman is entirely covered I find that immoral dehumanizing and degrading can I be more strong if I could I would say it I just don't know how to be stronger in my condemnation of that in fact frankly between the two I would take the the immodest extreme over the over that over that as as as much as I think that that's a problem and does so what does that mean then what does it mean I mean and here people have to be I think there has to be a common sense understanding because I mean the fact is what do they used to say a well-turned ankle when women only showed ankles it was it was something women's skin is women's skin to men that's the way it is that's the way men are made and I am one of them this is not abstract I propose of this. Let's go to Denver, Colorado, and Avita. Hello, Avita.
Dennis Prager.
>> Hello, Dennis Prager. I am nervous and this is such an honor to talk to you.
>> Thank you so so much. And I understand being nervous. Go ahead.
>> Oh, this is so great. Um, you know, I I'm so thankful you do this hour, but I'm very curious to know in light of what you have said, you know, I'm a Christian woman. Um, but I have worked very hard on my figure. uh used to be a fitness instructor. It's very important to me to look good. So I'm curious in light of what you said, what is in your mind appropriate dress for a Christian woman who wants to look good.
>> You know, having you know your question is it is is is of you asking exactly what the the Jewish woman in the letter is asking. Uh you religious Christian, religious Jewish woman, same same question and appropriate. I just want to tell you a funny thing is when I see pictures of of some uh some starlets or some athletes very very low cut half their breasts showing and a and a cross in the middle [laughter] and I'm thinking what exactly did they have in mind? How do I attract men to Christ? I mean [laughter] what is what is what is on their mind?
Anyway, it's just it's a it's actually it's it's humorous in its way. And I'm not it's not even a condemnation. It's just I I I marvel at it. But anyway, you're asking a first of all, I think you have every right to let the world know that you take care of yourself and have a fine figure.
>> Mhm.
>> Uh so I do not believe that uh that uh figure eradicating clothing I is is necessary or or even good. I think the fact that you are a woman and have a different body than than men do and that you have a fine one because you've taken care of it, you have every right and I think even even obligation uh to yourself uh to uh to make that clear uh by not wearing uh particularly baggy clothing for example. Okay. So the figure is the figure. We're talking about skin here uh much more than we're talking about revealing that this is a this is a a a woman with a fine body. That's just fine. And and by the way, well, one will of course one could argue, well, Dennis, that's a turn on to men, too. Okay, that's that's meant at that point. That becomes my male problem. Okay, I'll I'll handle that.
>> Okay, that is good to know because that was a question that I had. Yes. And I know other Christian women who say like, "I won't even wear anything that's form-fitting because it's showing your figure."
>> No, no, no, no, no, no. Well, so then then you know then what's the difference? But then why not? By that logic, you should wear a chador or a burka, right?
>> That is true.
>> And by the way, what about your face?
Why reveal your face? Face face is also arousing, >> right? I mean by by that thinking then you know one ends up really wearing a burka. No, not at all. So there is you you you are continue to do so. The question comes with regard by the way there are also other questions. Uh a a cocktail party versus going to church.
Venue is part of the answer to your question. I will explain when we come back on the Dennis Prager show. Hi Dennis. My name is Nick. I live in Westwood, New Jersey. And I just want to wish you well. [music] I know you've had, you know, or deal to deal with the last uh year, year plus now with having to do with your fall. Um I like many people have had their life changed by you with your show and your columns and your [music] videos and your books. Um I I' I've read everything you've ever written. Um and you just changed my life. You convinced me to get a PhD in American religion. I went from atheist to uh back to Catholic. I went from liberal to conservative. I have successfully converted god knows how many people and my family over to our cause. And um I just really appreciate everything you've done for me. And there are there are millions if not tens of millions of people like me, most of whom will not call um but just know [music] how much good you've done in this world.
So, I wish you well and I look forward to continuing to um indulge in your in your timeless wisdom. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks for listening and for your support. Prager it is. Hi everybody.
Dennis Prager, the male female hour talking about [music] women's dress and its effect on men. And I I take a middle road here. On the one hand, it is so clear that the the effect of of showing more skin is so uh is so arousing and distracting to men. Period.
End of issue. And it is uh it's almost immeasurable in it in its in its power.
We talked about the visual in previous week on the on the show. Uh on the other hand, the the the movement uh toward the entire coverage like in the like among some Muslim women is degrading and humiliating in in terrible ways. Uh and and is is actually in my opinion some total is actually worse. And I say that having been quite clear about the the adverse effects of provocative dress.
There was a woman who called.
Unfortunately, she hung up. Uh, but I got a chance to at least read her subject. Her husband likes her to go balless in in public and uh and she's uncomfortable with that and I and I it's too bad that she I think she's in Cleveland. Uh, and the I'll tell you very quickly uh the fact that he wants you to do that and I don't want to cause any troubles at all. God forbid. The point of this hour is to make marriages better, not worse. But uh there is a part of men that wants to say to the world to other men in particular, look at how sexy my wife is.
And that's that's natural. That's part of that's part that's why they they often speak of what is the word when a woman has a much younger uh wife? Uh >> trophy. Trophy. Yeah.
But uh but uh that is something that it is one thing for a man to be proud of how his wife looks. It is quite another to to have her wear clothing to to provoke to announce, look, I'm a sex object.
That's that's uh that's not a good thing. Men should not do that. And um it's just it's it's bad for both of you.
It's bad for everybody.
And uh there's I don't know maybe there's a certain insecurity at the root of it that you know I this is how men will listen let me tell you something. If if as a man men if the way you will get respect from other men is by showing off your wife's body then you don't have much that you can gain respect from other men for if that's what you're relying on you don't have much going on in your life. Okay.
Is that direct enough?
[snorts] All right. 18 Prager 776.
And in fact on that very uh issue in Yand Michigan, it's Mark. Hello Mark. Dennis Prager. Did I pronounce your city right?
>> Yes, you did. You got it.
>> Good.
>> Hey Dennis, you know what? My opinion on this subject is pretty much the opposite of that uh call you just described before that, >> right?
>> I I like my woman to look uh modest and attractive in public. And when there's times of intimacy, that's when the male gets to come out. And that's when I like my woman to be more provocative and sexy looking.
>> You got it, my friend.
>> Yes. And uh you know, although I when I see a woman dressed scandalally on the street, I'll look, but I'm thinking I wouldn't want my my woman looking that way because other men are looking >> or or or your daughter or your mother or your sister or your or a female friend.
There isn't a single woman that you love that you would want dressed that way.
Okay. So that that's something to bear in mind. That's exactly right. I do believe that there are extremes. I I think for example I mean there are there are those who say that a woman should cover her arms to her wrists. I think that or or her or must hit her ankle, her skirt. And you know I respect those who who feel that way. I I think that that's that's more than I think is necessary. But people but there's no objective answer to this. Obviously there will always be a subjective element.
uh but uh nevertheless at least they have the the at least I mean to their credit they have the right idea of the importance of modesty and dress and uh I always thought in that way when I look at uh films of the 50s and I don't mean movies I mean I mean just documentaries of the way women dressed they were they looked beautiful just as beautiful as women do today in fact some ways perhaps more but they showed much less But are are they less sexy? Are they less adorable? Are they less desirable? Of course not.
Of course not.
Just sexual tension wasn't uh wasn't around quite as much.
That That's the point there. Uh give me uh give me line five. I just disconnected the plug for a second. Give me line five. And let's see. Katie in Bradenton, Florida.
>> Hi Dennis. Hi.
>> Um, my husband is actually the one that urged me to call.
>> Oh, how interesting. Go ahead.
>> Oh, yeah. We listen to your show all the time.
>> Good. And >> I'm a big uh plug person for the the no expectations theory that you have.
>> Oh, good.
>> Cuz I think it works wonders. It does.
>> But um >> I called because when I was younger, say around 18 or so, >> apparently, and I know now, but I used to wear very short skirts. Mhm.
>> provocative skirts. I was God had blessed me with long legs. And I remember even around my parents when I would go out and I would be wearing these, they would say how nice I looked and and I had no idea >> That's right.
>> what I was doing at all.
>> Just like that 19year-old at my institute. Yeah.
>> Exactly. Exactly. And it wasn't until that one of my friends made some off-handed comment, not not a mean comment in any way, but remarked about how I always wear these short skirts that and I asked them, you know, what are you talking about? And they acted like, oh, you you know that you do and this and that. And I it really it blindsided me at how that I was dressing and and what kind of >> well that it proves my theory as to why I'm writing my book on men and why I do this show. So many women are never told by men what's going on.
>> Right. Exactly.
>> Well, you're 25 and thank God you now you now know and uh that's great.
[music] I appreciate your call immensely.

[music] >> Dennis Prager here. final segment of this edition of the male female hour.
I suspect a lot of you [music] would like a copy of this. I don't mean a transcription though we should transcribe all the stuff. Actually, uh I have finally decided and I and if you want to laugh at me, you are perfectly right in doing so since I've been so paralyzed between so many books or among so many. But my next book will in fact be the truth about men. I don't I don't know if that'll be the title, but that's what uh it is about. it is about all these issues.
Uh and uh in the meantime you if you want to get this particular show and play it for your daughter, niece or whomever uh it go to dennisprager.com and uh I'd love your mail. I want to tell Marian in Tampa. She said, "What can I do to get my husband to be attracted to me again? It seems like no matter what I do, he's just not that interested."
Uh it is such an important subject that's one I would like to talk about at length. We don't have the time now.
Marian, please either send me an email or call in in in maybe even next time we will just have an open line male female hour so that people can pose any honest question the tough stuff that may have not been dealt with or has been dealt with and you want to ask about.
Alrighty. And oh, Kim asked the same thing. Kim in San Diego, do husbands like to look at their wives bodies even once they age? I don't feel as attractive as I used to. Okay, look, it's a very honest question here. In a nutshell, there men are still attracted to their wives if their wives generally speaking, these are all generalizations. if their wives take care of themselves and they do a lot of things to keep that tension alive. For example, don't appear uh undressed before him when you are not about to do something. Let it be very rare that he still sees you undressed.
Wear the type of sexy stuff for him that accentuates the still provocative parts of you there. Obviously, you don't look like a 20-year-old, but but he that's not what he's expecting.
and uh and that's why uh people do continue to to uh enjoy one another at at all ages. All right, let's quickly David San Antonio quickly.
>> Hi Dennis, great talking to you again.
Uh I'll preface this. I retired from the military, went back to college, and my last semester I heard about a yoga class who had been the teacher was one of my high school teachers for my high school days. So, I took the class. Uh, showed up about 20 people in the class, three males, me and two others, uh, with >> All right, we we All right, I think I know the line. Forgive me. And they're scandalally clad and part of him likes it and [music] part is very is very distracted. No kidding. That was my theme. The man versus the male, [music] the woman versus the female. This is the Dennis Prager show.
>> Tomorrow on Timeless Wisdom with Dennis Prager. The west side of LA has a lot more influence over the country than the west side of Toledo. I mean, that's And by the way, I don't I'm not saying that's bad. I'm just saying if you have more influence over how other people live, you ought to consider yourself a steward of the country and you ought to make wise decisions.
>> Is that Gladiator the music behind you?
>> Yes. You know, it's >> I can literally quote the whole movie.
Maximus, will you not accept this great honor?
hair with all my heart. No, that is why it must be you, Maximus. There you go.
That's my That's my best imitation. I love that movie. Every human being is sinned and fallen short.
>> Exactly.
>> And by the way, I probably have a much longer list than you in life.
>> I doubt it, but uh [laughter] >> no, I >> we'll get together and compare.
>> Are we going to get together over a cigar?
>> For a big part of my life, which I guess made me a talk [snorts] show, right?
[laughter] >> Yes.
Nobody stereotypes more based on race, ethnicity, religion than people on the left. And so when they saw that my last name was Shapiro and then I went to Harvard Laws [laughter] that I must be one of them. And in Hollywood there's, you know, usually that's like a 98% bet. Well, unfortunately, they didn't even bother googling.
