This video demonstrates the complete process of creating a summer wardrobe through sewing, including pattern selection, fabric preparation, construction techniques like adding pockets and waistbands, and iterative fitting adjustments. The creator shows how to adapt thrifted patterns, work with limited fabric, and self-draft patterns for items like hats, emphasizing that sewing involves both technical skills and creative problem-solving to achieve comfortable, wearable garments.

sewing my summer wardrobe! (sewing vlog)Added:
Don't look at my feet. Oh my gosh, I'm going to fall. I need to test the comfortability.
I've been sewing for like a year and a half, and there's like three things in my closet that I made that I wear. So, I'm just thinking, what have I been doing for the past year and a half?
Okay, I need to make clothes that I like. Maybe it's cuz I'm so picky. I'm a perfectionist because nothing ever fits me, even if I make it myself. is the season. The season is summertime. We're making some summer clothes. This morning, I already made myself the cutest little pair of shorts. So, check that out. This was my outfit inspo for today because I just wanted to really channel my inner cabin. I'm going to make a pair of shorts out of this gorgeous colorful fabric. My pattern is these Brandy Melville shorts that I thrifted and cut up. I do want to add pockets, which means this is not going to be so simple and straightforward. But hopefully I can use my big brain and it'll just fall into place. Let me tell you my plan. All right, I'm wearing shorts right now that I made from this Brandy Melville pattern and I want the waistband to be really thick.
The needles on my serger snapped a couple projects ago. though. And I was kind of procrastinating switching them out, but I just did it. It was a lot easier than I expected. And as you can see, my serger is working wonderfully.
So, we kind of have some progress here.
I don't think I'm going to keep them this long. So, I'm going to just try on these shorts to see how I feel about the length.
I'm almost done as you can see and I'm kind of obsessed.
I still need to hem this leg. I was considering like doing a bunch of stitches along this elastic, but I think it might be cool just as is. The one thing about these shorts is like maybe a little bit wedgie vibes, but nothing too crazy. If it really starts bugging me, I'm just going to open the inseam and add a strip of fabric there. My first summer wardrobe piece is officially complete.
And I really love how they look. I think they're so cute. The pockets are very small. I didn't have a lot of room to work with, but my phone does fit. So, like they end right here. I wish I would have pushed it like further along the pant cuz I just love big pockets. So, now I have to clean up this mess before me. And we'll see which project I want to start next. It's almost noon and I finished one project. I'm literally so cool and productive. Next on the chopping block is this green linen dress. Can you see the color? Lucky for me, this thrift flip is literally just me using fabric to make something because it's just a dress. Very simple.
I want to preserve this like facing kind of thing that it has going on because I feel like I could use this on a top. I love a square neck and there's buttons on the back. How precious. I'm making those really trendy pants from Free People. I've seen them recreated a couple times on my social media feed.
So, it's my turn. Just a heads up, there's going to be a million outfit changes throughout this video because if I make something and I'm like, "This is so freaking cute." I'm going to wear it.
So hopefully it'll be a new outfit after I finish each project. I need to test the comfortability of everything, you know, the durability, right? I'm really tall, so I think I'm going to have to be really careful using this dress because I think it's just long enough.
This is what we're looking like. It's like the type of pant where it's just the side panels, like the front and back are already connected. That was my only choice. And I had to overlap them. It might be like pretty snug. We'll see.
I'm going to sew this. I'm really excited, really nervous. It's not the end of the world if it doesn't work out, but I will be kind of sad.
I'm at a point where I could try these on and I'm just so curious as to how they're looking. So, I'm going to put them on. We have extra room in the waist, which is good. They're definitely high waters. Hopefully, I have enough fabric to add length to the bottom.
I ironed the waistband and then I pinned a little channel below it and I'm going to stitch this on. Ignore the fact that this is literally asymmetrical. I didn't notice until now.
This is my super accurate and mathematical way of figuring out how long the elastic should be. I'm getting really excited.
I have a very very long piece of fabric to turn inside out with the safety pin.
It's already in there. It's going to be a very slow process.
These pants turned out so good. If I could add an inch of length to them, I would. Because I was working with a minimal fabric, some of the seams are a little bit questionable, but I won't complain. I won't complain.
Next up, for the first time ever in Roxbox history, I'm making a hat. This is what I have so far. It's going to be like a cute little summer bucket hat deal. I have a big fat pimple.
So fun. Good morning. Last night I kind of walked in and made this hat and I love it. I think it's so cute. It does have its flaws because it is self-drafted. This is like the very first sample, but I think it's so cute and I've been wanting a hat like this forever. I've been telling my boyfriend for probably a year that I want a summer hat. I plan on like making strings to put through here that you can tie underneath. Right now I'm working on one for my boyfriend. The lining is going to be this plaid. And I just realized because I was debating. I was like, should I have his hat be like this on the outside or the denim on the outside?
And I was like, I don't know. It's literally reversible, so it doesn't really matter. It's not perfect on the back. Like I put all the ugly stuff on the back, but there's this little fold here. My hair is crazy. But I don't know if you can see there's a lot of flaws just because I was just antsy to jump right in. And I cut out these pieces first and then I cut out the lining pieces. They probably weren't all exactly the same size. So that's where I got these little problems. The one thing that I changed for my boyfriend's version is I want to make this part longer. That way it sits deeper on my head. if that makes sense. I feel like it's resting too much on my head and I constantly want to pull it down, but it doesn't go down any further. I just added like a centimeter, honestly, or half an inch. So, hopefully that's enough.
When I tell you I had so much fun sewing yesterday. I wasn't worrying too much about my seams lining up, cutting everything out perfectly because I was self-drafting and kind of improvising as I went. And it's been a while since I've sewn like that. Literally, yesterday was the best day ever. I kid you not. I did release a sewing pattern recently and I've been making the same pants over and over on repeat. So, it was also really fun to switch it up. And also, I got new clothes out of it. I don't think that'll ever wear off.
This looks so silly, but I'm really liking the fit. I have to iron this seam right here open, and it's such a hassle to do. I I wish I had one of those ham things, you know?
That was a pain, but I'm doing a top stitch, so it'll look nice and stay in place.
Moment of truth about these pattern adjustments. This literally lined up flawlessly when I sewed everything together, which so satisfying. Okay.
Okay. I love it. It fits literally like a glove. This is really long right now, but once I add the lining, it'll take like a centimeter off of there. Oh my gosh, it fits so good.
