Spanish Wildflower Hike with Rich Harring!Added:
Hey, well, we have been very busy.
Yesterday I filmed five scenes. How many did you film yesterday, Nico?
Four, maybe. Yeah. Rich, how many did you film yesterday? I think probably like three. Yeah, so we've been doing the work. So this morning, we're going to take a little break. We are going to respectively go shopping, go to the botanical gardens, and go for a hike.
It's all about balance. It is, yeah.
Enjoy the the secular world, as it were, and then we'll be back to work tonight.
So come along with us.
Beautiful vista into the botanical gardens.
Ready for a stroll.
The botanical gardens were small, but had some lovely flowering trees. Here are a few of my favorite. There were kind of some formal beds arranged around different types of collections, and we actually had good luck to see plenty of blooming trees.
Okay, well, maybe this will be video evidence for somebody later, maybe it won't, but we did [clears throat] just get hit by a truck at a gas station.
We got hit by the truck. We That's right. That's right. We're not at fault, as we never are.
Um but it doesn't look terrible, and the rental car was already beat to [ __ ] anyway, so we're going to just going to see if we can fix it.
And uh no harm, no foul. It hit by a truck.
With your left right? Scrape. Scrape. It was a Titanic car. Yeah, it was like along the iceberg.
>> [snorts] >> Uh slow motion. But handled quite well by the both. I uh hopefully, yeah. We'll see. Anyway, um we're insured.
And uh we're handy.
So And no one died. And nobody died.
So now we're going on a hike.
We hope, as long as we can find it.
In the beautiful hills.
Never a dull moment.
Our hike started just along a typical kind of wayside path and I was absolutely blown away just by the color and the variety and the sheer number of blooming wildflowers. It's really nice.
Trying to lead us astray.
It's a pretty nice one.
A year later.
Oh, this is so cool.
I have it in my garden.
It's just so wonderful to see it wild.
Has it like an amazing presence just the color stands out.
Okay, this is like worth the car crash.
Incredible.
Beautiful Asphodel.
Sorry, this is sometimes what hiking with me is like is we're going to I'm going to stop rewarding.
This is very beautiful place.
You know what's crazy to me is we have not passed a single person. But this is one Oh, come on, focus.
Girl, what the [ __ ] I'm running my video. Okay, here we go.
This is like one of the progenitor species of the Dutch irises that are used, you know, for florist irises.
My garden is filled with them.
This color is incredible. I don't know why we don't have this beautiful purple Dutch iris.
>> [sighs] >> It's so amazing to see it blooming in the wild. Look, you can see the sea in the background.
This is so cool. You can just see them blooming among the rocks.
Really beautiful.
Find of the day so far.
Things just kept getting better and better. This is Ophrys speculum, the mirrored bee orchid. Never seen this in person before, so I was so excited to find it blooming.
Your face was zooming in on this. I am so excited about this. We stopped to have a wee, as you say, and I saw this beautiful bee orchid in the bush here. First one I've ever seen blooming >> You repeat your explanation. Yeah, so this uh achieves pollination by deception. See how it's fuzzy and looks a little bit like a flying insect. It mimics the female bee, and the males emerge a couple days before the females, and they see and smell the bee pheromones that this flower releases and tries to mate with it, and they get the pollen on it, takes it to another flower, and doesn't really get in the way of their reproductive fitness because uh there's not any females out yet, so they're just practicing. Mic drop.
>> [laughter] >> Wow.
Beautiful, just growing in the rocks.
Okay, you ready to disappear into a hole in the ground and never be seen again?
Sounds like fun. Let's go.
Goodbye, everyone.
I'll see you in hell.
>> [laughter] >> We survived the mine, emerged from the ground, and continued up the mountain.
This is even better than the other path.
>> [laughter] >> Well, I just was like, "Okay, maybe this one's going to be more exposed. There will be less to see." But there's a ton more irises.
Beautiful to see them growing through the stones like this.
As I was mentioning a bit before, the trail was completely [laughter] deserted. It's a beautiful day. You can see we're cruising along with views of the Mediterranean, and we didn't even pass one single other person all day.
It was very steep and kind of a rocky trail and that's my excuse for why I'm panting so much in the narration of this video, but I enjoyed getting out there, getting my body moving, getting the blood flowing a little bit.
On this hike Rich said something to me which I think is really true which is that if you love nature and plants, you can go anywhere in the world and you won't be bored. You can always find something to see and do because the natural world is replete with beauty and it's different in every place.
Thanks for joining us on our little day off hike. I hope you stick around for more garden tours and adventures to come.
See you soon.
