When performing motorcycle maintenance, proper oil selection is criticalโmotorcycles require specific motorcycle oil (such as 1040 motorcycle oil) rather than conventional or synthetic car oil, as modern car oils are too slippery for wet clutches and can cause clutch slippage. Additionally, when reassembling motorcycle side covers, careful alignment of components like the shifter shaft and starter gear is necessary, and using oil-resistant silicone sealant (like Permiteex) with a thin coating ensures proper sealing without causing issues.

It's my birthday ๐, lets work on motorcycles!Added:
All right, folks. Let's go finish this bike up. As you can see, I've already done the hard part.
It can be tricky to get that cover back on. You've got to get the shifter shaft through and uh the starter gear and the idler gear for the starter gear.
One rides in a pin, the other one rides in a hole inside of the starter cover. I mean, excuse me, the uh side cover. And sometimes it's a bugger to get it lined up. And I needed just some patience and not a camera watching over me in order to get that put together.
But the new stator is in. The new pulse generator is in.
New gasket. It's been glued on with some uh some Permiteex oilproof silicone.
which is what you need to use for this.
Uh let me show you the show you the package of that.
Okay. Anytime you're working with engine covers, some of y'all know this, some don't.
Oil pans on cars, timing covers, side covers on motorcycles.
This is kind of shadow it so you can see it.
Oil resistant. This is what you need.
And you only need a very, very thin coating. Just paint it on with your finger.
You don't want a thick coating whatsoever.
So, what we're going to do, we still haven't put oil in the engine. We're going to go ahead and button everything up before we do that. And that will give that silicone time to dry up and uh set in place.
and tuck the wiring back in.
Get the wiring plug back in.
I probably don't need to do this, but for my own satisfaction, I'm going to go ahead and probe the new pulse generator. And I probably should have already done this.
Make sure we have what we need.
As far as ohms of resistance Let's get the plug back in.
Actually, let's get the wires tucked where they need to be.
Back under here like this out of the way.
And we got another cover to put on here, which should be eight. Yes.
Let's change out to this socket.
because I like this one better.
Pardon me, folks. I'm thinking for a second.
We're good.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey.
Hey.
Hey.
Heat. Heat.
Now, that went in a very hard to get to place, didn't it?
And that's in the wrong drawer, isn't it?
Pain in my ass. Pain in my ass. You are being a pain in my ass.
Pain in my ass.
A pain in my ass.
Stupid things.
Okay.
Hello.
Heat.
Hey, heat. Hey, heat.
Heat. Heat.
Hello.
Hello.
I love you.
the coldest No, no, no.
Okay.
And probably have to take it to the floor to get that in. And that was what 10.
If I remember correctly, a socket will not do it.
It's got to be a wrench.
Just have to come all the notch further forward.
Yeah, it's a shitty design.
[ย __ย ] foot peg is right in the way.
Where did that go?
There it is.
That ain't going to work. So, you're going have to hook your foot way under that.
That's a shitty shitty design, Suzuki.
Something like that.
But then that's right in the way.
There's like a boss on this thing that got it right to where you can't fit the bolt in because there's a little boss on the cover right there. And that's a shitty design, Suzuki.
Shitty [ย __ย ] design.
Can't really fit a socket on it.
But we're going to try.
No, that's not going to work, is it? Oh, you rotten son of a [ย __ย ] Come on now. Get this out of my way.
All right, I got started. That's what matters.
See the bugger is, you probably can't see this, but the bugger is the actual side cover has a little boss.
In other words, a little piece of the cover sticking out.
You can't fit a socket over it.
Way to really get it would be to put the bike in all the way down into first gear. if I don't want to do that.
And I can only get a quarter of a turn at a time because honestly, I can't even really get a wrench on it.
Oh, this hurts my shoulders and my back, but we're getting it.
Late start this morning.
Mrs. Phoenix Motorsports informed me after I finished making breakfast that we need to go get groceries today.
Today is also my birthday. Means I have to go visit the family. And I turned 46 today.
I'm officially in my late 40s. I really don't care that it's my birthday.
I have one mission. That's to finish this project that I started a week ago. And I am the type that when I start doing something like a project like this, it will eat at my mind.
until it is finished. The only time it doesn't is when I'm at my day job because I have to absolutely have to focus when I'm doing that job.
I'm not at work.
I seem like I can't relax until I finish a project.
I'm just one of them people like that have a passion for life and doing this is my life, man.
Even at times it's got me so frustrated I want to throw stuff and scream.
This [ย __ย ] here is what I live for.
I got to give my shoulder a break.
Getting old and feeling the arthritis, folks. getting old and feeling the arthritis.
If you think it's funny, just give it time cuz you'll be there one day, too.
You rotten son [ย __ย ] Oh my goodness.
Oh, good God. Help me here.
Please.
You need like another [ย __ย ] turn and a half and you will be home.
But I just can't seem to get the wrench on you all the way to do it.
Get Oh my god. I can't lay like this. It hurts.
Can't do it. All right, that hurts. My shoulders hurt today because it's raining. I can't lay like that. I got to try it from a different angle.
Ow. Stand up for a minute. The bolt almost all the way in.
Almost. Doesn't count though.
Suzuki, why would you do this? Why would you do this to someone? Jeez. Oh man, why would you put that there? Holy [ย __ย ] There's no [ย __ย ] reason.
Goodbye.
It's on there.
It's on there. And it's on there. And I'm not fighting it anymore cuz that's just how that's going to go.
Spark plug reinstalled here.
17 for that I believe should be this.
Okay.
All right. That's where we're at.
Where are you?
Let's test the battery.
See if we need any zap zap charge charge on the battery.
That battery held a charge pretty well.
13.2.
But dude, I got to see that again.
That's kind of hard to believe.
12.5 took a second to settle.
Battery still serviceable.
Thank Yeah, appreciate that.
had to excuse me for a second there. I had to use the restroom.
All right, let's put some oil in the engine.
Actually, before we do that, let's drain out the waste oil from the engine into our pan of waste oil so that I do not kick it and knock it over.
Feller said that he recently changed the oil in this machine.
So, I cleaned out my pan really well.
And as you can see, the oil's black.
Black doesn't bother me. The problem is smells very strongly of gasoline.
So, we're going to go ahead and just put fresh oil in the machine just to do it.
Okay. Let this sit and drain out all the way.
And we will need a funnel.
Okay.
Should take 3 and 12 quarts 1040 motorcycle oil.
Got to use the right stuff. Can't just put conventional car oil. Do not run synthetic car oil in here, please.
You will burn up the clutch by doing that.
Modern oils have a whole bunch of [ย __ย ] in it. And you know, it's great cuz modern cars last a lot longer and there's advances in metal energy in the bearings that makes that happen.
Advances in design, but a whole heck of a lot of it has to do with the fact that we're using way better oil.
As I'm sure any of my older heads watching this would know, you had a car from the 1970s, 1960s, at least in this area. When it got up around 100,000 miles, it was shot.
Usually shot damn close to being shot anyway.
Well, now it's a regular thing for engines and modern cars to get 300,000 miles even around here.
And this area is hard on cars. We have the winters, hot summers, cold winters, harsh conditions, you know, city driving.
Well, like I said, a lot of it is the modern met metallergy, modern engine design, and a whole hell of a lot of it is the oil that we are now using is a much higher quality, especially synthetic stuff. But something like this that has a clutch that rides in an oil bath, modern oil, essentially to put it in a nutshell for you, it's just too slippery.
It will cause the clutch to slip. We don't want that.
Data.
It should take just a tick over three and 1/2 quarts.
Dump three in it.
See where we're at from there.
actually just about good. It only needs a tickle more.
A little sc.
All right, that should take us to full and it is full bike like this. Check the oil with the engine, the motorcycle vertical. And there's a little sight glass down there.
Pretty simple.
This here. Let it drain.
It's been a long few days, folks. Too much stress. Like way too much.
Going to need to just chill out for a while soon here and do nothing. May take a break in between projects for a week.
May have to.
All right, we can remove the sign that says no oil.
just something I do so no oil right through the key that way no one's ever in here but me and usually I know when I have something torn apart that you know there's no oil but to remind myself because everybody makes a mistake do something like that and then you know not to crank the engine cuz you got to turn the key to crank the engine.
So you know there's no oil in it.
Got no drips coming out of this side.
Wipe this spot up off the floor though.
Heat. Heat.
Right on.
Good to see.
All right, folks. I got to shut this down cuz I got places to be and I got to throw this bike back together and I really don't have time to narrate and everything. I got to focus.
Early day. Just wanted to go live for a little bit.
talk to y'all. Say hi.
Thanks for Thanks for tuning in. I will catch you later.
