Delaware 250 Ride Brings “Unheard Voices” Into Focus Ahead of Historic Reenactment

As plans move forward for the 250 ride reenactment on June 12th, organizers are spotlighting voices that history has not always featured. Through its unheard voices spotlight series, the project is telling stories of women, African-Americans, working families, and everyday Delawarians whose lives helped shape the revolutionary era. One of those stories focuses on Mary Vining, whose experience offers a broader look at Delaware during the uncertain years surrounding America's founding. The goal is not to replace the well-known story of Caesar Rodney's overnight ride from Dover to Philadelphia, where he cast Delaware's deciding independence vote.

The Delaware 250 ride reenactment on June 12th and 13th, 2026 will recreate Rodney's historic overnight journey across Delaware and into Philadelphia. Riders on horsedrawn carriage, community events, educational stops, a public gala on Friday, and public celebrations are planned along the route as Delaware marks the moment Rodney rode through the night to break a deadlock and help push the colonies toward independence.
