Israel-Lebanon ceasefire: Hezbollah rejects Washington-brokered framework

[00:00:00]For the first time in weeks, Lebanese army units entered the southern village of the bean after Israeli forces withdrew from the area.

[00:00:08]The deployment comes as Lebanon pushes for what Lebanese officials describe as a comprehensive ceasefire deal, although no agreement is yet in place.

[00:00:20]Lebanon says the deal brokered by Washington is Lebanon's last chance.

[00:00:27]>> We could have stood by in the face of a war we did not choose, but that was never an option. We could have waited years for international courts or relied on a blocked Security Council while destruction continued. Choosing negotiations does not mean abandoning other options, but pursuing them in parallel.

[00:00:46]>> What Hezbollah has rejected the entire framework. Secretary General Naim Qassem described the negotiations as humiliating and accused Washington and Israel of trying to impose politically what they failed to achieve militarily.

[00:01:01]He said that for the primary goal to be disarming the resistance means the execution of Lebanon's strength.

[00:01:09]Prime Minister Nawaf Salam defended the negotiations saying diplomacy remains the least costly option for Lebanon. He added that whoever refuses the deal should be held responsible.

[00:01:22]Despite the diplomacy, the war continues. Israeli air strikes and artillery continue to hit towns across southern Lebanon. Adding to destruction and displacement already stretching for months.

[00:01:36]Israeli military says 63 officers and soldiers were wounded in fighting in southern Lebanon over the past 4 days.

[00:01:45]The negotiations are attempting to build a ceasefire while the war is still ongoing. But the deeper issue now is whether Lebanon can reach a new political and security formula before the battlefield imposes its own realities. The coming days could determine whether Lebanon enters a fragile truce or a far wider confrontation.
