The incident required complex diplomatic negotiations involving India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee leading the crisis management efforts. The hijackers were eventually released, and the passengers were safely returned to India, marking one of the most significant aviation security challenges in Indian history.
