The video offers a sophisticated deconstruction of Arlecchino’s design, effectively bridging the gap between modern gaming aesthetics and ancient mythological archetypes. It elevates character analysis into a meaningful dialogue about how we continue to project historical divinity onto contemporary icons.

SECRETS and MYTHOLOGY in Arlecchino's Design Part 1 | Genshin ImpactAdded:
Arleino is one of the most well-ritten and flawlessly executed characters in Genshin and she happens to be one of my personal favorites. I have a lot to analyze when it comes to her design. So, I will be making a two to four-part video series analyzing her design. In this video, I'll be condensing two very big topics which is angelology and the divine feminine into a single video. So, without wasting further time, let's jump into it.
Starting with Angelology, it is difficult to miss the number of angel inspirations that Arleino has in her design. The ends of her tail coat look like wings. Her hair clip looks like wings. She has wings on her sleeves.
When you press and hold her charge attack, she summons a pyro wing to glide. And even the way her hair parts and falls on the side of her head.
Reminds me of an angel's wing or the wing of a swan. But beyond the wing motifs, she also has eye motifs. When we look at the brooch on the center of her chest, it is an eight-ointed star which is a symbol of Kandria. And I'll be delving deeper into the eight-ointed star symbolism in the divine feminine section of this video. But the X part of the eight-ointed star looks like eyes.
And she has these eye motifs repeated a couple of other times in her design near her abdomen area. Now, you may be wondering how eye motifs make sense with angels because aren't angels just supposed to look like pretty people with white fluffy wings? That is very far from the truth because that's not how they're described in the Bible. In the Bible, their features could include the following. Their body might be composed of a bunch of concentric rings which are spinning which are covered in eyeballs which are covered in fire which might have anywhere between two to six wings.
They might have the body of a serpent and they might have the heads of a deer or an ox or an eagle. As you can see, that is very far from what we expect angels to look like. And this is why whenever angels appear to humans in the Bible, the phrase they first say is be not afraid. Because the first reaction people have to seeing these angels is fear. Here's a fun fact if you didn't already know this. The phrase be not afraid is the most commonly occurring phrase in the Bible, which occurs a total of 144 times. And the second highest phrase is love God, which appears a total of 72 times, which is half of the be not afraid lines appearances. But the similarities between Arleekino and Angelology don't end here. In the latest expansion of Genshin, we got this area called Temple of Space. And this area has a lot of ties to Angelology and Arleino's design.
First of all, we have this world boss whose name is Nihila, who is considered as a watcher. Watchers are a type of angels, and I'll be delving deeper into them in the next section of this video.
But Nihila himself has a lot of similarities to Arleekino. First of all, both of them have one very prominent wing. They are covered in wing motifs and they are covered in eyeball motifs.
But it doesn't end there. Nihila is just one of two watchers that we meet. The other one being Meanta. Meanta is a watcher we meet over the course of the world quest of Temple of Space. Nahila and Meanta have wings on the other side of each other. So them having a wing on the same side as Arlikino isn't very substantial. But the lore goes as follows. These watchers were created by Asmoday and their job was just to observe the nominal world which is the explainable world and not dive deeper into the phenomenal world which is the unexplainable world. But once Asmoday was absent, Nhila committed the extremely deadly sin of opening his eyes and seeing the world as to what it truly is. And because of this, he leaves the temple of space and he's banished from there. Now when we look at Nihila's design, he is supposed to have eyes which are opened. So what part of his design actually look like opened eyes?
We have this eye motif near his chest which is similar to the eye motifs that Melanta has. Now when we look at Melanta, Nihila and the other lesser watchers which are the domain keepers and the item we receive which is supposed to be a baby watcher which looks like a hand called Dex. We notice that Melanta, the domain keepers, and Dex, their eyes are yellow in color, whereas Nihila's eyes are red in color, which implies that when you open your eyes, it turns red. And coincidentally, the eye motifs all over Ario's design, are also red in color. The item that we get, which I said is a baby watcher, which we named Dex, short for Dextop, is a right hand. It's a severed right hand, which just floats around. And this is supposed to be what the watchers look like when they're a baby. So, it's a hand covered in an eye which is very similar to Arlino's constellation which is supposed to be a hand of glory. A hand of glory is a little macar but it's supposed to be the severed hand of a executed criminal which is waxed up and used as a candle holder which is supposed to have some guard protection type properties. Beyond that, these ethereal moths that we see flying all over the temple of space remind me of the wisps that we see in Arleino's weekly boss before we start the fight.
And the oculi equivalent in the temple of space are called memory factors. And the watchers themselves have the capabilities of erasing memory, which is very similar to Arleekino's fire, which has the property of erasing memories.
Beyond that, I'll be delving deeper into the watchers later on. But here's one important fact to note before I stop talking about the similarities between Arleino, which is that the watchers wives [music] in the book of Enoch are said to be turned into sirens, which are half bird, half human hybrids which sing a lot. If you didn't already know this, Arleino, the character from the comedia Delarte play is said to be the love interest of Colombina. And who among all the characters that we've seen in Genshin fits the role of a siren the most? Obviously, it is Colombina.
Colombina means Dao. She is compared to Dao in she's compared to a Dao in most of her promotional materials. And she sings a lot. She is constantly singing.
Even her normal and charge attacks involve her singing. So this is some of the many similarities between Arleakino and angelology. Yeah, there is one more similarity in the new artifact set that we got called the orbit of morning star and moon. The three moons are described as silver wheels which is again very reminiscent of angels from the Bible.
Now that this is out of the way, let's dive deeper into what these watchers actually are.
The Watchers are primarily mentioned in this book called Enoch 1. Enoch is a very old book which is considered as non-cannonical because it's apocryphal.
What this means is it's secret teachings which are not considered canon. However, in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, it is considered canon. And Enoch himself was a person who was the seventh generation descendant of Adam and the greatgrandfather of Noah. So the book of Enoch talks about this group of angels called the watchers whose job it was to watch and guide humanity by influencing their world leaders and so on. However, this group of 200 watchers decided to abandon their post because they found the human women so attractive. They abducted human women and had children with them. And these children were called the Nephilim which were 450t tall giants who were extremely hungry for resources. They consumed all the resources they could and when they could when they had no resources left to consume they started consuming humans and each other. The watchers also taught the humans a lot of forbidden knowledge.
For example, the watcher called Aazil taught humans metal working and how to make jewelry and cosmetics. The watcher called Samjaza taught the humans how to perform incantations and herbal magic.
The watcher called Barakij taught humans astrology. The watcher called Kokobiel taught constellations. Tamil taught about astronomy. Asel taught humans about weapons and other arts tied to war. And all of these were considered as great sins. Firstly, the watchers abandoned their post as watchers.
Secondly, they mixed their blood by interbreeding with humans. Thirdly, the Nephilim conducted cannibalism and war and consumed humans and blood which was a very big sin. And fourthly, they taught humans forbidden knowledge. And all of these are some of the justifications as to why the flood of Noah's ark actually takes place where God creates a massive flood which destroys all of humanity except Noah and his family who gets saved by creating ship called the ark. Uh here's a fun fact. Tart actually means ark. And the story of the watchers interbreeding with humans reminds me of the angel who fell in love with a human in Genshin. And because of all of their sins, angels are sent to defeat the Watchers and they are chained and imprisoned in this very dark area called the Abyss for a very long time. Whereas the Nephilim are slaughtered either by them having a war among themselves, by the flood, or by angels. But the classification of angels goes a lot deeper than just the watchers. You might be familiar with guardian angels and archangels, but there are actually nine different types of angels. And let's dive deeper into what these types of angels are to figure out what category Arleekino actually falls under.
The most popular classification of angels that we have comes from the writings of a writer called Sodor Dionicius who existed somewhere between the 4th and 6th century CE. He wrote this book called Delestia Hierarchia in which he classifies angels into nine different choirs which are groups of angels which are split into three different spears. The first spear which is closest to God includes the saraphim which are closest to God, the cherubam and the offanim in that order. Let's dive deeper into what each of these angel groups or choirs represents. The saraphim are called the burning ones and they are supposed to be the closest to God. And Isaiah describes them as a choir constantly surrounding and flying around God's chariot and throne constantly singing holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty. The whole earth is filled with his glory. They are said to have six wings and they use four of these wings to cover their body. This could be either out of humility or because they are so bright that they might actually harm the people that look at them. So they use four of their six wings to cover their body and two of their six wings to fly. They are also considered as agents of cleansing because there is the story of Isaiah where he sees the angels. They take a piece of burning coal and place it on Isaiah's lips and tell to him that all of his sins are now cleansed and he can now communicate with the Lord. And it is also described that when they do sing the temple walls are covered in smoke because of how burning they are. Like I already said, the word sarafh means burning ones and they are actually set to describe a flying serpent. I've covered this in my gemstones video. You should check it out if you haven't already. And the word sarafh is cognate with the word serpent which is cognate with the word sarpa from Indian languages which also means serpent.
Cognate just means that both the words have a common root ancestor from which they are derived. If the sarafhs are burning serpents with wings, that implies that they are dragons. So do with that information what you want. The next choir are called cherobam. And cherubam just means it's full of wisdom.
They are said to have four faces. One of a man which represents humanity, a lion which represents wild animals, an ox which represents domesticated animals, and an eagle which represents birds.
They are also said to have hooves like cow or a horse. And their job is said to be making the wheels of the chariot of God move. And they are tasked with protection. And what is the word for gardens? Anyway, they are tasked with protection. Whenever we see the ark of the covenant or the temple of Solomon, which is, you know, very steeped in controversy right now, but the temple of Solomon and the ark of the covenant are said to have cherubs decorating them.
The third choir of angels are called the offanim. And they are the third closest to God. And they are said to be described as a couple of wheels which are circulating each other which are covered in eyeballs. And these wheels are what the chariot of the god travels through. And they are said to be moved by the cherub beam themsel. They are also described as very fiery. So these three the saraphim ofanim and cherubam constitute the first spear which are the closest to god. And the way I find it easier to remember these names are from Digimon. Digimon has these three highest order of angel Digimon which are O ofimon, Sarafimon and Sherobimon. And the Digimon are named after the three highest order of angels. Next we have the second spear which consists of dominions whose job it is to make commandments of God known to the lower spears. Virtues which are responsible for governing natural cycles such as the changing of seasons and powers which are angels of death. They are warrior angels which are kind of like the military of God. And the third highest spear, we have archangels which I'm sure most of you are familiar with who are set to show up at a critical moment in God's plan for humanity. Then in the eighth choir, we have principalities who are responsible for protection and guidance and transfer of power. And lastly, we have personal guardian angels which are assigned to true [music] believers.
There are said to be seven archangels and all of their names end with L. And if you didn't already know, L refers to God. It's one of the various titles that God uses in the Old Testament. Even the name Israel.
Yeah, the name Israel means in the presence of God. L means God and Isra implies in the presence of. So the seven archangels are as follows. First we have Michael or Mika whose name translates to who is like God and he is the leader of the heavenly armies and his job is defending against evil. Then we have the probably the more popular archangel Gabrielle whose name translates to God is my strength and this archangel's job is to be the messenger of God. The third archangel is Raphael whose name means God heals and he is said to be a healer and guide who's responsible for protection during travels. Then we have the angel called Uriel whose name translates to God is my light and he is associated with wisdom, illumination and prophecy. The next archangel Rago is associated with justice and fairness and his name translates to the friend of God. The sixth archangel is Sariel whose name translates to command of God and he is associated with discipline and guidance. Lastly, we have Ramiel or Yarimiel depending on which source you're citing whose name translates to the thunder of God or the mercy of God.
His name and his role is associated with hope and resurrection. So that's everything I wanted to talk about with respect to angelology and Arleino. Next, let's get into the divine feminine part of Arleino's design.
Arleino's primary color scheme is red, white, and [music] black. And there's a few reasons as to why this is. And I think the most obvious reason as to why it's red, white, and black is because she's meant to look like a hearth, which is covered in snow. Hearth is a fireplace. So, we would have a fire in the center, which looks like red. The hearth itself, which is black, and the snow covering the hearth, which is white in color. And that's kind of how Arleino looks. But there's a second reason which I think is definitely intentional, which is that the red, white, and black color scheme is the color scheme of the divine feminine itself. And here's a question to you. Why do you think that red, white, and black constitute the colors of the divine feminine? It's actually pretty simple because in most cultures across the world, the divine feminine has almost always been associated with the moon. And the moon, as you might expect, is white in color. It's black in color during a new moon or the parts of the moon which are not visible during like a half crescent or gibbus moon and it is red during a total lunar eclipse.
But the ties between the moon and the divine feminine go further than that.
The moon completes a cycle every 29 days and that kind of aligns with the menstrual cycle of human women which lasts anywhere between 21 to 35 days but the average being 28 which is pretty close to the 29.5 days of the lunar cycle. I'll be getting into this deeper in a later section of this video, but the moon also has different phases. And the divine feminine has always been associated with a maiden, mother, and crone, which is a younger girl, a middle-aged woman, and an older woman to represent the divine feminine itself, which are tied to certain goddesses whom I'll talk about later. In fact, the word menstruation itself is cognate with the word moon. Men stroller comes from moon.
Similarly, the word month also comes from moon and so does Monday. And the moon going through this waxing and waning phase of crescent to full back to crescent to new aligns with cycles of growth and rebirth, renewal and death.
And the moon is often associated with intuition and emotion rather than outwards power or presence such as what is usually associated with the sun. And because of this for most cultures the moon is a female goddess whereas the sun in most cultures is a male god. The only exception I can think of for that is the moon god in Indian mythology who is Chandra who is a male. But the entire essence of the moon's existence comes from Shaki or Parvati whose divine essence enables the moon to exist because she is the personification of matter itself and the energy that the moon exudes through moonlight. And if you've noticed my other videos, most of the other moon gods I talk about are all female. Coyle Shakwi is female, Athena is female, Hecerti is female, Seline is female and so on. The red is meant to represent lifeblood, fertility, sexuality, power, passion and the ability to transform. Whereas white is meant to symbolize purity, stillness, wisdom, spiritual clarity, transcendence beyond the physical. This will be very relevant when I start talking about the goddesses. But the divine feminine goddess, the older ones have usually been associated with both love and war.
Taking Ishtar or Inana as an example, they are both the goddess of love and the goddess of war.
There is another reason why I think red and white are associated with the divine feminine. And this ties into one of the oldest stories that we know of which exists in different cultures in different forms. And when I say popular female characters have red and white as their color scheme, like I already mentioned, I'm referring to characters such as Offred from The Handmaid's Tale or Mikasa Akurman from Attack on Titan.
One of the most popular feminist songs I would say is labor by Paris Paloma. The labor song has its album art as a pomegranate. Can you see where I'm going with this? The most popular version of that story which I mentioned is the story of Hades and Pesphanany. The story goes as follows. Pphanie was the daughter of Deita who is the Greek goddess of fertility and agriculture and so on. She was one day plucking flowers in her garden where she was either abducted by Hades or she runs away with Hades. Hades is the god of the dead not the god of death. That is Thanoos. He is the god of the dead. So he is like a king who governs over the dead people.
And [music] once Pphanie goes missing, Deita feels distraught and because of that she completely goes into isolation because of which there is no fertility that exists in the planet. Animals and people stop having kids, crops stop growing and so on. And to help her feel better when she finds out that Pphanie actually visited the underworld and she is with Hades right now, she asks Pphanie to come back. But Hades says that since she has consumed or eaten something from Hades the underworld, she cannot completely go back because now she belongs there. And what she had eaten was a few pieces of a pomegranate.
And because of this, they kind of come to an understanding that Pphanie will spend some amount of the time during a year with Hades and some amount of time with Deita. And the time during which she is with Hades is what we experience as winter. And when she returns to Pphanany, we have spring and summertime.
And the pomegranate is also as you expect white and red in colors. There is actually a scene in Attack on Titan if you have watched it. It's not much of a spoiler, but in the very beginning of the show somewhere around episode 7 or 8 when Masa realizes that Erin is gone, she almost gives up on living. That's when a pomegranate appears to her. just a little bit of sunlight falling on this pomegranate and that makes her realize no matter what happens despite Erin not being there anymore she will continue to live no matter what happens because just by keeping the thought of Erin alive Erin is still alive that's a very direct call back to Hades and Pphanie if you know the ending of Attack on Titan you'll see why this is so much more relevant hm maybe I should start making anime analysis in the future too coming back not only has the color scheme of red white and black but she also has heavy moon associations which I don't think I need to explain and this is why I think Arleekino her whole character is tied to the divine feminine because when we look at the gender identity of characters in Genshin I don't think any character's gender identity is as important to their story as much as ours. I would argue that wanderer has his gender identity also important for other reasons. I'll be working on Scaramusha's video shortly after this, so stay tuned for that. But coming back, Arleekino or Peruare was meant to be the next mother of the house of the hearth.
But because of Kruabina's horrible character who was truly one of the most despicable characters in Genshin, she decides to reject the title of mother and instead chooses the title of a cold and unfeilling father, which is also a Godfather reference, which makes it super cool. Coming back to the divine feminine, for most of human history, scholars believe that we didn't just live in an egalitarian society or a patriarchal society, but that we lived in a matriarchal society where there was a lot of importance given to women.
There is no substantial evidence proving or disproving this. However, some of the oldest gods or figurines that we find are related to this mother earth goddess whom I'm referring to as the divine feminine in this video. A lot of the priests were also either women or queer people, which I'll be delving deeper into later.
One of the most prominent examples of this is the god Kybelli. Kybelli is a roughly 3,000-year-old Friian goddess who was meant to represent mother earth and wilderness. She was meant to represent the untamed nature of wilderness, fertility of lands and animals, and the raw chaotic force of nature. She was depicted as sitting on a throne flanked by lions as having lions under her hands while she's sitting on the throne, wearing a crown, which is typically a mural of the city she was protecting. It is believed that during the Second Punic War, which you should definitely check out if you are not familiar with the Second Punic War. It's one of my favorite historical events. It is just so interesting and entertaining to me. During the second Punic War, Rome was given a lot of trouble by this Carthaginian general called Hannibal Barka, who I think Barka gets his name from. Hannibal Barka was someone whose greatest feat is that he completely infiltrated Rome by crossing a mountain range. And while infiltrating Rome from the opposite side, he gave them a lot of trouble. This reminds me a lot of Vara because he also kind of infiltrated Sesh Naya or not cry deep in enemy territory and he was able to accomplish what he wanted. So I think Wara is inspired by Hannibal Barka which makes him super cool. I just wish his kitten Genjin was something to admire as well. Coming back. So during the second Punic War, it is believed that Rome officialized the worship of Kaibali believing that she would protect them from Hannibal, which is like the second Punic War is one of my favorite events in history, guys. It is so entertaining. But this shows that she also had a very prominent aspect of her as a protector goddess. She is one of the most famous story she has is the myth of Atis who is supposed to be her lover. Atis was a beautiful young man.
She falls in love with Atis, but then he either betrays her or remarries someone else. And when Kyle is distraught, he castrates himself and probably dies. He is then resurrected and preserved in a semi-living state. And this death and resurrection is a common motif that you'll notice in a lot of the other goddesses I will cover later on too. And this is meant to symbolize limonality, which I will also be covering later. His death and resurrection symbolize loss and devotion, the circulation of cycles of crops and so on. When it comes to how Kyle was worshiped, she was in this cult of ecstasy where the worship involved drumming, dancing, chanting, entering a translike states with a high degree of emotional and physical release. And the priests that she had were people who rejected traditional gender roles such as masculinity and some of them even castrated themselves to mirror atis. And these priests who were I'll be using the word queer were called gali. I hope I'm pronouncing that word right. But this is a 3,000-y old language so I can't really find a source as to how to pronounce it correctly. But that's all about kyali.
If you notice her symbolism is very reminiscent of I would say Parvati or Shakti from the Indian pantheon as Parvati or Shaki has her mount also a lion called Dawan or Dawan. I'm not sure how to pronounce that. She is also a goddess of love and war and nature similar to Kyle. But the next goddess I'm going to talk about Inana has a lot more similarities than this.
The next goddess I want to talk about is an ancient Sumerian goddess who was worshiped over 5,000 years back and her name is Inana. However, Inana continued to be woripped in Babylonia under a different name which is a lot more popular that being Ishtar. Ishtar is everything from the goddess of love and attraction to war and destruction and political power and kingship which is a lot. So if we had to find an equivalent of Ishtar in the Greek pantheon, it would be a combination of Deita, Athena, Aphroditi, Aries and so on. She is often associated with the planet Venus and her depiction is that of an eight-ointed star which happens to be Kandria's symbol which Arlino has on the brooch on her chest. The most famous story of Inana or Ishtar is called the descent of Inana which is an older retelling of the Hades and Posephanany myth. This involves Inana or Ishtar going to the underworld called Irkal to visit their twin sister Eishkal. Now Ishtar is the queen of heaven and Eishkal is the queen of the underworld. It is not widely understood why exactly she goes. There are a few different reasons as to why she visits the underworld. But before visiting the underworld, she dresses herself up in divine regalia, which is official garments of heaven. And as she enters through the underworld, there's a rule that after she passes each gate, she has to remove one article of her clothing. And there are seven gates to the underworld. And once she's done passing through the seventh gate, she is completely naked. And when she visits Arishkal, Arishkal just belittles her and kills her and hangs her body on a meat hook. Following the instructions that Ishtar had given before she descended, some of her people go and ask the gods for help. And most of the gods refuse to help. But the god Enki, who is the god of wisdom, agrees to help them.
Enki creates two genderless beings from the dirt under his fingernails called Korggara and Galador. And both of them follow the procedure and enter Ikal to meet Arish Kegal. And there they find Inana or Ishtar hung up dead. They ask Arishkal to resurrect her, which she does. And then Ishtar eats divine food and water, but Arishkal doesn't let Ishtar leave the underworld without finding a replacement. So she agrees to find a replacement for her when she leaves. When Ishtar reaches the surface, she realizes that her lover Damuzi never moaned for her. In fact, he was partying in her absence. Infuriated at this she decides that Damuzi is supposed to be the one who replaces Ishtar herself.
That's what happens. Damuzzi ends up replacing Ishtar for half of the year and for the remaining half his sister takes his place and this is again huge parallel to Pphanany and Hades's story and this happens because the divine feminine is also associated with the planet Venus and Venus as you might know is not just the morning star but it is also the evening star. It is the second brightest object in the sky even in the morning. The first being the sun and the morning star disappears and then the evening star appears. And this disappearing and reappearing is supposed to be the reason real world reason as to why ashtar dies and is reborn. But again, if you've been paying attention, this whole bit of dying and resurrecting is a core trait of a liinal deity. And who is a better liinal deity to talk about than the goddess of limonality herself, Hecate?
Hecate, in my opinion, is one of the most misunderstood and mysterious goddesses from the Greek pantheon. She is said to be a titan who had power even before Zeus and the Olympians rose to power. She is said to have influence over the earth, the oceans, the sky, and human fate itself. She is very often said to be the goddess of witchcraft.
But I think that is a very gross oversimplification of what her role actually is, which is that she is the goddess of the crossroads and the goddess of the threshold and limonality.
Limmonality, as I've spoken about numerous times on my channel, is said to be the period of transition between two states. So liinal spaces, as you might know already, are places which are in between transition of two places. So the most popular liinal spaces images that you get when you Google it are really crowded places which are suddenly empty at a time in which it's supposed to be crowded. A best example for this is a hallway in a school or a college where you would expect it to be super crowded but for some reason completely empty and this gives you this eerie feeling that you're observing something you are not supposed to see. And that's why liinal spaces and limonality is so popular. And Hecerti happens to be the goddess of this essence. She is said to be very powerful at the crossroads. A crossroad, what I want you to imagine when I say crossroads is you're walking down a path and suddenly your path splits into two.
So right now you're at an intersection of three different roads and that's what I want you to imagine when I say crossroads. She is often revered at crossroads. Offerings are given to her at crossroads. This reminds me of a practice that we have in India which is kind of looked down on but it is considered as black magic and people often offer lemons, chilies or eggs at such crossroads and this is supposed to remove the nazer from you. Nazar as you might know is the envious eye that other people might have on you. It is believed that if someone looks at you with envy bad things will happen to you. And so there are practices that remove this nazer from you which involve practice called dishr where all of the negative energy put onto you is transferred onto usually salt in some cases lemons, chilies or eggs and offered to a god.
Here the offering that they do at the crossroads is in my opinion a very very very old practice which is of an offering to the same god who is under different names and different cultures.
Coming back, Hecerti is also famous for being the first person to hear Pesphany's cry when she was being abducted into Hades and who goes after her holding a torch to rescue her. And because of this, one of her most prominent symbols is a torch like a stick with fire. One of her other prominent symbols is a key. Because when it is said that he energy appears to your life, she is telling you to take the step you are afraid to take. open the door that people told you not to open. I have kind of personally experienced this myself and Hecerti is one of my favorite goddesses of all time. She is also often associated with the total lonar eclipse. The eclipse psychologically has a bunch of meanings.
It involves confronting your emotions.
It involves sudden realizations. It involves endings that feel fated or unavoidable. And it involves letting go of emotions that are tied to comfort and your current identity. Because like I said, she embodies this immerse amount of energy forcing you to change the path that you're on. Heci according to some scholars has also been said to have three faces and this represents what I previously said is the maiden, mother and crone. You might be more familiar with this in the sense of the morai who are in English often called the fates.
There are these three faiths in Greek mythology who are responsible for dealing with humans fates. The three morai are as follows. Clto is the one who spins the thread. Latasis is the one who decides the length of the thread.
And Atropos is the one who cuts the thread which ends your life. And this is where the maiden mother crone trifecta makes sense because here we have three different morai. But certain scholars believe that Hecate's three faces are linked to this maiden mother crone archetype. But that is pretty far from the truth because Hecati is not directly associated with having three forms. In fact, Hecati and Artemis actually embody the maiden part of the maiden mother crone archetype. Her energy is meant to represent the cycle being interrupted.
The familiar is uncertain and the hidden becomes more dominant. So, as you can imagine, this is a very powerful presence that we have in [music] a goddess. Heci also reminds me of the nightmother spoken about in the Genshin book which is extremely infamous being the pale princess and the six pygmies.
And technically the nightmother would be more related to Nyx which is my channel name uh rather than Hecate but I can see how Hecate is connected to this as well.
Hecate is also heavily associated with the dead and spirits and communication with such spirits. But that's all I had to speak about Hecate. Next I wanted to talk about some of the oldest representations of the divine feminine that we have.
Some of the oldest archaeological artifacts that we have ever found are the Venus figurines which you can see on your screen right now. They have exaggerated body parts and it is not widely understood why or what these were used for but people believe that it was related to ritualistic offerings and it is said to represent the divine mother archetype whom I've kind of spoken about throughout this video. They are often carved from stone, bone or ivory and are often said to represent fertility, pregnancy, childirth and survival. And one of the oldest mathematical records that we have is the Ishango bone which has notches carved on it which coincide with the lunar cycles which might also coincide with the menstrual cycle of whoever was carving it. So if that is true, the oldest archaeological mathematical record that we have is of a woman which is super cool. And when it comes to India, I was looking up what are the oldest mentions of gods that we found and they often refer to either Vishnu or Shiva in a very old sense. But I was not satisfied with that because in my opinion some of the oldest findings we can have should also represent Parvati. And that's where I came across this artifact called the Baror stone. It is said to be about 11,000 years old.
And as you can see, it just has a bunch of triangles carved into it, which you might be wondering how does that relate to a goddess. Now, Ishtar is also represented with something of a triangular shape called the pelvic triangle. But beyond that, in India, even in current day, even in my uh relatives houses and my friends houses, we have something called the Shri Chakra or the Shri Yantra. And what this is is a geometric diagram which is meant to represent the goddess in a lot of tantric practices as well. The ritual involves drawing this geometrical pattern on the floor. You then invite the goddess or god and you place them into that geometrical pattern. And once your ritual is completed where you offer stuff to the goddess and you have requests, you then send the goddess back to her abboard and then you erase the geometrical pattern. Something that is present in most Hindu houses is something called the Shri Chakra or the Shriantra. This is how its construction looks like. At the center it has a single point called the bindu which is meant to represent pure consciousness or the goddess in her absolute form.
Everything emerges from that point.
Later you have five downward pointing triangles which is meant to represent Shaki and feminine energy and four upward pointing triangles which is meant to represent Shiva and masculine consciousness. Around the triangles are two rings of petals. The inner lotus has eight petals and the outer lotus has 16 petals and this is meant to symbolize manifestation of desires, expansion of consciousness and layers of experience in mind and body. And if the bar stone trolley is older representation of the shriantra then that shows that this is a practice that has been carried on for generations together over 10,000 years in the making which I [music] find very cool.
Next I want to talk about a couple of topics which could be considered sensitive. So I want you to know that I'm going about with this with the most respectful way I can. Firstly, I find a lot of similarities between the divine feminine from western cultures and the divine feminine in Indian cultures. I don't think I need to explain the similarities between Ishtar's role and Parvati's role. They are pretty evident.
But beyond that, I also find Aphroditi very similar to Lakshmi. Their birth stories are very similar. Aphroditiy's birth story to put it very carefully, she was born out of white foam that came out of the ocean. She was born inside a clamshell. There's a very famous painting depicting that. Lakshmi similarly was born out of the ocean. Now I have gone over Lakshmi, Parvati and the Indian gods extensively in my previous videos. To simplify it here, Mahalakshmi always existed from the beginning of time. One of her fractions is Lakshmi who is the goddess of wealth and prosperity. And there's a story where all the wealth and riches from heaven get sucked into the ocean because of a certain event taking place. The gods had to churn the riches back out of the ocean. And one of the riches that get churned out of the ocean in this way is Laxshmi, the goddess who was sucked in. Aphroditi has one of her epipetss as foam born because she was born surrounded by white foam in the ocean.
Similarly, Laxshmi isn't really born surrounded by white foam. But the myth that she that talks about this story is called the Samudra mantana. It has another name called the Shiraas Sagara Mantana which translates to the churning of the white ocean. So in both Aphrodite and Lakshmi's case, they were born from the ocean covered with white foam or white waters. They are both the goddesses of beauty, love, attraction and so on. And I want you to understand the gravity of the word attraction or love when I say it. Because when I say love, I don't just mean the romantic love that you experience, but it is the force of attraction itself that governs humanity from the beginning of time. It is your ambitions, your desires, your protectiveness towards your loved ones.
All of this falls under their jurisdiction. There is also this jewel that comes out of the Samud Ramanit called the Kostaba which is described in the Mahabharata when Krishna wears it.
It is said to glow as brightly as the sun and the sun in most cultures is often depicted again as an eight-ointed star which is similar to the star of Ishtar. It is said that Vishnu has this mark on his chest where his heart is and this mark is often depicted like this as you can see on screen which also reminds me of the star of Ishtar. So there's a couple of other similarities between Aphroditi or the western depictions of the divine feminine and the eastern depictions of the divine feminine. And when I say similarities, I want it to be crystal clear that I'm not saying one culture copied it from the other culture. What I mean is that both of these cultures remember the same symbolism and gods or goddesses under different names. So that's the first thing I wanted to talk about.
The second one is that there is a goddess in the Abrahamic stories who has been erased from history and she is someone who was very very very prominently worshiped in ancient times and we still have records of her in the Bible for example. They haven't done a very good job of erasing it. And the name of this goddess is Asher. It is said that she was worshiped roughly between,500 to 500 B.CE. And one of her most distinctive symbols is a sacred tree or a pole called the Ashera pole.
It's a wooden ritualistic object and it possibly represents life, fertility, and divine presence. If this goddess existed, she would be the wife of the supreme god in the Abrahamic religions whose name is L, whom I covered in the angelology video. Every archangel's name ends with L, which is a reference to this figure who would end up being Asher's husband if this was true. I tried to find a more careful way of saying this, but I have to translate the [music] word as it is at face value. So, this is how I'll do it. In a certain religious text, there are a lot of female goddess names with the suffix oth attached to their names. And what this suffix means is that it is calling whatever the suffix is attached to as a [ __ ] That's where you get the phrase the [ __ ] of Babylon from. So in this way, Asher is called Ashtaroth. Ishtar if you already pieced it together would become Ishtaroth who is the shade of time in Genshin. I don't think it goes very deep here. I think the way they see it is Ishtar is the goddess and Ishtaroth is the demon and they wanted to give the shades demon names and that's why they went with Ishtaroth. So that's everything I wanted to talk about with the divine feminine section of this video. But before that there is one very very clear design inspiration that Arleino has that I need to show you guys.
So this magnificent creature in my opinion also has a lot of Arleino design inspirations. As you can see, black on the ears, white in the body. Everyone say hi to my beautiful cat, Mr. Yuki. I just dragged him back from his nap to show you guys how cute he is. Even his tail has like, you know, the Arino style coloring.
So cute. Okay, you can go now.
[laughter] So, thank you so much for watching till the end. Subscribe to my channel so that you don't miss out on my future uploads.
I plan on making more videos on Scaramush and Arleino as well. and like the video. Please do let me know what you thought about the video. I read and respond to every single comment from the bottom of my heart. I truly love you guys. And until next time, see you later.
