This video documents an officer-involved shooting incident in Columbus, Ohio, where a suspect fled a traffic stop, was located approximately 1.5 miles away, and opened fire on responding officers, resulting in one officer injured and the suspect deceased. Police Chief Elaine Bryant explained that while it is not ideal protocol for both the injured officer and deceased suspect to be transported to the same hospital, officers' training enabled them to prioritize saving their fellow officer's life. The incident highlights the dangers officers face daily and the importance of rapid emergency response, with BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) conducting the official investigation.

Columbus police chief gives update after Linden shooting that left suspect dead, officer injured追加:
At 7:19 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop at Hamilton Avenue and Minnesota Avenue.
The vehicle fled the scene. At 7:30 p.m., officers located the vehicle unoccupied. Approximately 1 minute later, officers located a male matching the description of the driver in the area of 16th Avenue and Hamilton Avenue.
As officers were exiting the cruiser, the suspect produced a firearm and fired shots, striking an officer. Multiple officers returned fire, striking the suspect.
Both the officer and the suspect were transported here to Grant Hospital. The suspect was pronounced deceased at 8:23 p.m. The officer is currently in search in surgery. As you know, with officer involved shootings, BCI is investigating this shooting. wanted to be able to give you some information um what we have and what we know. Um there's no doubt in my mind that what I know that this suspect meant to kill this officer and so I'm very appreciative that the officers were able to um get this officer here to the hospital. Um, I'm asking for prayers for the officer that was involved and I'm also asking for prayers for the entire department.
Um, if anybody has any information or anything that they think would be beneficial to this investigation, we're asking that they reach out and emailed BCI intel.
It's intel Ohio.gov.
That's intelag.gov.
gov. So, at this time, I'll take any questions.
>> Can you tell us uh just about the officer's injuries, exactly? Where was he hit and kind of what's his process right now as far as surgery?
>> Um, what I can tell you is the officer is currently in surgery. Um, that's the information that I have at the at the moment.
>> Can you tell me about the initial stop?
What was that for? How far was the distance between when he took off to where he stopped and then got out?
>> And so, right now, this is a very fluid investigation. and wanted to be able to get you um some information. We are still very actively investigating all of that information. So, we will be updating you as soon as we get more information like we always do, but wanted to be able to come at least give you information regarding the suspect, regarding the officer and conditions.
>> Do we know anything I I know it's early, but anything about the traffic stop at this point? Is it just a typical traffic stop speeding or is what was the reason behind the officer pulling this guy? At this time, I do not have information to be able to share with you. But again, as soon as we get more information, we'll give it to you. Just really wanted to be able to come out here, let you know the officer's condition, and again, ask for any information. If you have any information, if there's anything that anybody saw or think that they could provide to be able to um help us in this investigation, please again reach out to either us or to BCI.
>> And you said that you thought the suspect, it seemed, was trying to kill the officer. just what's your reaction to uh the officer being hurt in this way?
>> I am extremely um very saddened by this incident and I'm mad. I'm mad because our officers go out here every single day um to serve and protect and uh this incident is just a a reminder of the dangers that officers face every single day.
>> Is it ab abnormal to take both of them here to the same hospital? Um we are um obviously uh looking into uh policies as it relates to things like that, but what I can tell you is that um I'm very proud that our officers took the actions that they did to be able to get the officer here as soon as they could.
>> It's certainly not protocol to have both come to the same place. How far from ideal would that be in your opinion?
>> It's not ideal. It's not ideal. It's not an ideal situation, but again, very proud of the officers. um they their training, they leapt into action and wanted to help their um their their fellow officers. So, I'm very appreciative of them and very proud of the actions that they took and they were able to get the officer here. The officer is currently in surgery.
>> Have you had an opportunity to talk to the officer's family?
>> Um have not had an opportunity to talk to the officer's family. I know that um they have reached out to the officer's family and there is um a loved one here with the officer.
>> Can you tell us anything about him? I mean, is he a father? any sort of background information like that? How long has he been with the department?
>> At this time, we're not able to release any information as as it relates to the officer. But again, just really wanted to let you know the officer is in surgery. Just wanted to be able to give you a condition and just let you know that um when we do get information, as always, we will be able to give you more when that time comes.
>> What about your CBD family after something like this?
>> Again, proud of the officers. um the job that we do every day. It's very stressful, very hard, but I can tell you they're dedicated to this community.
They are dedicated to this division and very proud of the work that they do every single day.
>> So, surgery, no condition update.
>> Not at this time.
>> And I just want to make sure I get this right. You know, the guy ran from the car and as soon as the officers spotted him walking down the street, he immediately pulled his weapon. So the information that I have is that um once the uh suspect was located, the officer's approach and that uh particular suspect opened fire on the officer.
>> Know how many times?
>> Not at this time.
>> Anybody else? Did you >> I'm here to offer support to this officer, his his family, and the whole CPD family officers because obviously they put their lines on the life every single day. And this is what happens, the perils of this job. And we're just saying our prayers and making sure that, you know, he gets through surgery and, you know, the family is heals. And of course, our CPD family is is in good spot.
>> Again, the suspect is dead.
>> The suspect is deceased.
>> It's been a really busy night for you guys. I know this is shifting gears a bit, but we also heard um of a shooting on 2000.
Okay.
>> Yep. Sorry. Thank you. Thank you.
