The man charged in the shooting death of a Loyola student returned to court today. Jose Medina is accused of shooting and killing Sheridan Gorman back in March. The 18-year-old Loyola freshman was walking with a group of friends to see the Northern Lights on a Rogers Park Pier. After court this morning, Gorman's family read a statement outside of the courtroom where they called for changes to immigration policies. Medina has pled not guilty and faces an additional contraband charge.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office says he was caught with a shank in jail last week.
