The high screen and roll is a fundamental basketball offensive strategy where a player sets a screen near the three-point line, allowing the ball handler to drive toward the basket while the screener rolls toward the paint; this play creates mismatches and scoring opportunities when executed with patience and proper timing, as demonstrated by Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston's chemistry with the Indiana Fever.

Stephanie White LOSES IT Over Caitlin Clark & Aliyah Boston's UNBELIEVABLE Rhythm!
Added:I wasn't expecting that. Could we have expected that this game would go into overtime seeing the lead that the Indiana Fever have? And by the way, I I can't take much more of this. Okay, I have PTSD from last night. That Spurs game last night where they were up by 29 and the Knicks came back and won. I have PTSD from that. And that's what happened tonight. And the Beaver nearly blew it.
Shout out to Skyler Diggins. That was a huge three at the end of regulation, but they pulled it off. They pulled off the dub in overtime. And as much as I didn't want an overtime game, as much as I'm I'm kind of tired, honestly, I was going to call it an early night. I was ready to get off the live stream. I didn't want an overtime game. That was quite entertaining. I have >> The rhythm was so electric, it felt illegal. Every coach in the league just got a wakeup call they weren't ready for. Caitlyn Clark and Aaliyah Boston didn't just play basketball. They conducted a symphony that left the defense in total ruins. This wasn't just a win. It was a statement that the Indiana Fever has finally unlocked the most dangerous duo in the WNBA. If you thought they were just hype, tonight proved that the rhythm is real. It's raw and it's about to change the entire landscape of the professional game forever. The silence from the doubters was deafening as the chemistry reached a fever pitch.
>> Okay. Was the out- of- bounds play? She was taking the ball out of bounds. The fever run that stupid stupid out- of-bounds play that I can't stand because it's never worked. Okay. The play's never worked yet. It hasn't worked. They run it all the time where they all kind of like run down the line.
You know what I'm talking about? They line up at half court and they just run.
And my Chines Allen like tosses it up and literally almost made it from out of bounds. But obviously the Fever didn't get a shot off in time and the game goes into overtime. Now with all of that being said, there are some big things that I noticed in this game specifically for the Fever. One thing that I noticed big with them is they were >> the game shifted the moment the high screen and roll became a weapon of mass destruction. In the beginning, the Chicago Sky thought they had the answer by packing the paint and mucking up the lanes. They were forcing turnovers and making Caitlyn look human for a split second. But then something clicked. The hesitation, the pullback, and the sudden explosion of movement turned the court into a playground. It wasn't just a play. It was a masterclass in patience that saw Caitlyn dragging defenders into a trap before feeding Aaliyah for the finish. It was a tactical nightmare that nobody saw coming.
>> One thing that I noticed big with them is they were running a lot of highcreen and rolls this game. A lot a lot a lot of highcreen rolls. A lot of the Caitlyn Clark Aaliyah Boston connection. We saw that for the entirety of the game. In the beginning of the game, the Chicago Sky were actually doing a pretty good job guarding it because what was happening was Caitlyn was coming off the high screen and roll and she was going downhill. Aaliyah Boston was rolling and also going downhill and the Chicago Sky were kind of packing the paint and it was getting really mucked up and Caitlyn actually had a couple turnovers off of that. But then we had some action where Aaliyah Boston would pop. Then we had some action where Caitlyn Clark would kind of drag off the screen. Wait a second.
>> Aaliyah Boston didn't just show up. She dominated the atmosphere with a career-defining performance, ending the night with 34 points and 12 rebounds, she proved exactly why she is the anchor of this franchise. Even with four fouls hanging over her head for much of the second half, she played with an aggression that bordered on the edge of chaos. She was cooking everyone the sky threw at her, including Camila Cardardoso, who simply couldn't stack up against the sheer force of Boston's expanded post bag. It was a legendary showing that silenced any questions about her status as an elite center.
>> That there was one call that was overturned, but there was a couple calls that the rest didn't call. Like Aaliyah Boston does she she's the post moves are getting there. Okay, she's definitely expanded her bag in the post, but there are times that Aaliyah Boston gets the ball and she likes to do this and drop step, but she sometimes really winds up and she throws her elbow like this. has to be careful of that because the refs are calling the game a lot tighter. And I think like that's kind of what happened. The refs saw it once and they called it once and they were looking for it more often. So that is something that she's just got to kind of be cognizant of. But she did great tonight. She was super aggressive and she finally was more active on the boards also in the second half.
>> But let's talk about the 32-point masterpiece from Caitlyn Clark that had the entire arena holding its breath. She didn't just score. She orchestrated the entire floor with 10 assists and seven rebounds to secure a massive double double. Sure, there were five turnovers, but many of those were high-risk, high-reward gamles that showed she isn't afraid to push the limits of the game.
When she finally found her patience on that high screen, the sky defenders were left grasping at shadows. She was the engine that kept the fever moving even when the wheels threatened to come off in the final minutes.
>> Really enjoyed that. Then Kayn Clark on top of that. She had 32 points. She had seven rebounds and she had 10 assists.
So also a double double. She did have five turnovers, but like some of those were silly. Again, some of those were her trying to connect on the high screen and roll by passing the ball over the top. And I feel like the Sky players were getting their hands on a lot of those passes. But when she it it really was like a patience thing on this high screen role. When Caitlyn was really patient with the high screen and roll and Aaliyah Boston was able to like roll hard to the post, that's when things were happening. What I also noticed with the fever that I thought was really great was there was a lot of ball movement. There's a lot of ball movement again from that high.
>> The energy was so intense it gave the fans a literal case of PTSD from recent sporting collapses. Watching the fever nearly blow a massive lead was like watching a slow motion car crash that somehow ended in a miracle. After seeing the Spurs blow a 29-point lead the night before, the tension in the building was thick enough to cut with a knife. The Fever were playing with fire, letting the sky dictate the pace and crawl back into a game they had no business being in. It was a roller coaster of emotions that tested the heart of every person watching. And the stress was almost unbearable.
>> One thing that I think the Fever do sometimes is they play to whatever level of opponent they're playing against. So, like if the team's really good, they play up to them. If the team's not so great, they play down to them. And I think sometimes they kind of get stuck in that and they let other teams kind of dictate the pace or dictate what's going on. I will also say like when you have a big lead, it's hard to keep your foot on the gas sometimes. Like we see this a lot in sports, like the hungrier team, the team that's down is going to be more aggressive. And you saw the fever kind of let up a little bit, but at the same time also the sky were shooting really horribly in the first quarter of the game. They were shooting.
>> Misha Hines Allen emerged as the ultimate X factor, bringing a level of energy that changed the molecular structure of the game. Her effort was undeniable and that massive block she swatted away became the spark the fever desperately needed to stay alive. You could see the fire in her eyes as she yelled and hyped up her teammates, proving she is the heartbeat of the locker room. Even when things got messy with a failed out-of-bounds play that nearly cost them everything, her presence on the floor remained a constant reminder that grit and attitude are just as important as scoring points.
>> 24year-old, she's a rookie this season in the WNBA, but she did play at Louisville and then she played overseas for a couple years. She's a rookie in the league. She had a careerhigh tonight. She had 30 points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block. She actually had a really big block at the end of the game as well.
But like she was on fire. She she was outstanding in this game and I thought that was great for her. Like she definitely had the hot hand and that was somebody that I don't think the Fever were expecting. Obviously, you look at the Chicago Sky team, you look at an Nazrey Stevens and a Skyler Diggins and Gabrielle Hawz was kind of quiet tonight. She really was. She played 22 minutes on the night, but she was pretty quiet tonight. When a veteran mind like Stephanie White watches this kind of rhythm, it's enough to make any coach lose their cool in amazement. You can't just double team Caitlyn anymore because Aaliyah is waiting to punish you at the rim. You can't just sag off Aaliyah because Caitlyn will find her with a pinpoint pass over the top. This is the kind of synergy that makes coaching staffs lose sleep and lose their minds on the sidelines trying to find a counter. It's an unbelievable evolution that happened almost overnight, turning a struggling offense into a high octane machine that refuses to be stopped.
>> The high screen roll action with the Leah Boston. Because like I told you guys, the secret to this team, if you have and even the numbers they put up tonight, if you have this big three on this team averaging over 20 points a game, good luck stopping this team. And so it's really about finding the chemistry, finding the rhythm between these three. And that's where it starts.
Obviously, that that's the core. That's where it starts. Then you have the role players to kind of fill in the blanks.
Like I said, I think Maishines Allen was an X factor this game because she added just so many of those intangible things and even just the energy she brought on the court and the defense and the rebounds and like some tough layups that she made. Like all of that is great though. That's where you fill in the gaps. Lexi Hall as well. Lexi Hall.
>> The Chicago Sky weren't going down without a fight and Sydney Taylor decided it was her night to become a superstar. The 24-year-old rookie who previously played at Louisville and overseas exploded for a career-high 30 points that left the Fever defense scrambling for answers. She was on fire from beyond the ark and even came up with a massive block at the end of the game that sent shock waves through the crowd. She was the one player the Fever didn't account for and her breakout performance turned a potential blowout into an overtime thriller that pushed everyone to the brink. There is a secret to this team that is finally being revealed and it involves the emergence of a true big three. When you have Caitlyn Clark, Aaliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell all capable of putting up 20 points a night, you become an unstoppable force. Kelsey Mitchell added 19 points of her own despite some questionable decision-making down the stretch that felt out of character.
Finding the chemistry and the rhythm between these three is the key to the Fever's future. If they can align their stars, the rest of the league is going to have a very difficult time finding a way to slow them down. However, there are still glaring issues that could derail this hype train if they aren't addressed immediately. Kelsey Mitchell has a habit of over dribbling that can sometimes stall the offense when they need quick ball movement. She is incredibly fast and can weave through any defense, but the unnecessary extra handles often lead to stagnant plays. On the flip side, Caitlyn Clark needs to work on her movement without the ball.
There were too many moments where she passed the rock and then just stood in one spot, allowing the defense to reset and focus on her teammates instead of keeping them moving. The physicality of the game reached a breaking point during an exchange between Aaliyah Boston and Azura Stevens. Normally, Azora isn't much of a talker, but the heat of the battle brought out a side of her that fans rarely see. They were going back and forth, trading buckets and words in a display of competitive fire that made the game even more entertaining. It's this kind of raw emotion that defines the WNBA right now. Aaliyah has to be careful with her elbows, though, as the refs are calling the game tighter than ever, and one wrong move could result in a game-changing foul or an early exit.
The Sky comeback was fueled by the Fever's tendency to play down to the level of their competition. It's a dangerous habit that has seen them surrender leads in multiple games this season. When they face a top tier team, they elevate their play to match the elite. But when they face a struggling opponent, they often take their foot off the gas. This lack of focus allowed a Sky team that was shooting a miserable 20% from the field in the first quarter to claw their way back into contention.
The Fever must learn how to be the dominant force that dictates the pace from start to finish. Skyler Diggins nearly ruined the night for Indiana with a cold-blooded three-pointer at the end of regulation. It was a massive shot that forced the game into an overtime period that nobody on the Fever bench wanted to see. The Chicago Sky fought back from the depths of a shooting slump where they were hitting only 11% from downtown. It was a testament to their professional resilience, but it was also a warning to the fever. You cannot let a professional basketball team hang around because eventually the shots will start falling and the momentum will shift like a title wave. The drama extended far beyond the court as the Commissioner Cup standings took a devastating turn for Indiana. Despite their hard-fought victory over the sky, the New York Liberty's win over the Atlanta Dream has effectively crushed the Fever's hopes of making the final. Unless the Liberties suffer a catastrophic collapse against some of the league's bottom tier teams, the Fever are likely on the outside looking in. It's a bitter pill to swallow, especially since the Fever's chances were largely out of their control once they dropped those earlier games to New York and the Western Conference leaders. In the post, Aaliyah Boston is expanding her bag in ways that are genuinely frightening for her opponents. Her drop steps and power moves are becoming more refined, but she still has to manage the way she winds up her arms. The refs were specifically looking for her elbows tonight, overturning one call, but keeping a close eye on her for the rest of the match. If she can master the art of being aggressive without drawing the whistle, she will become the most difficult assignment in the league. Her growth is the foundation upon which this incredible rhythm with Caitlyn is built.
Lexi Hull was another unsung hero who stepped up when the stars needed a breather. At one point in the game, she was actually the leading rebounder for the entire Fever squad, showing a level of grit that often goes unnoticed in the box score. These are the intangible plays that win games when the shooting goes cold. Whether it's a contested rebound or a loose ball dive, Hull's contributions were vital in keeping the Sky at bay during their most aggressive runs. It's the role players like her who fill in the gaps and allow the big three to shine under the bright lights. The chaotic out-of-bounds play that the fever keep running is becoming a source of frustration for fans and analysts alike. It's a play where they line up at half court and sprint toward the inbounder. And quite frankly, it has never worked. Tonight, it nearly resulted in an impossible shot from out of bounds that missed the mark, sending the game into a stressful overtime. It's these small tactical blunders that can make or break a season. For a team with this much talent, relying on gimmick plays that have zero success rate is a risk they simply shouldn't be taking anymore. Watching Caitlyn Clark navigate the high screen was like watching a chess grandmaster find a winning move in a crowded room. Her patience tonight was the difference maker. Instead of forcing the corner hard, she started hesitating and pulling back, which forced the sky defenders to make a choice. If they stayed with her, Aaliyah was open for the role. If they crashed on Aaliyah, Caitlyn had the space to pull up or drive. This level of maturity in her game is what's creating that unbelievable rhythm. She is learning how to manipulate the defense rather than just reacting to it. The ball movement from the fever was at an all-time high tonight, showing a glimpse of what this team can truly become. There were multiple sequences where the ball zipped from the high screen to the wing and then into the paint for a wideopen look.
Even when the three-pointers weren't falling, the process was correct. They were creating highquality shots through unselfish play and constant motion. This is the blueprint for success in the WNBA. If they can maintain this level of offensive flow while tightening up their defense, they will be a nightmare for any playoff opponent. Gabrielle Hawksky and Tammy Fagbenlay were surprisingly quiet during this contest which placed even more pressure on the starters to perform. Hawksky played 22 minutes but struggled to find her rhythm leaving a void that the Sky tried to exploit. On the other hand, the Sky saw contributions from Jaylen Sherid and Elizabeth Williams who became more active toward the end of the game and managed to get to the free throw line.
It was a battle of depth as much as it was a battle of stars. And the Fever barely managed to outlast the surging bench production from the Chicago side.
The psychological toll of these close games cannot be overstated. The Fever have shown they have the talent to lead, but they are still learning how to close the door and lock it. Taking the foot off the gas is a symptom of a young team that hasn't yet developed that killer instinct. They need to walk into every arena with the mindset that they are the dominant force and everyone else needs to play up to them. Tonight was a survival story, but the goal is to turn these nailbiters into decisive victories where the outcome is never in doubt after the third quarter. As the team prepares for the next stretch of the season, the focus has to remain on those tiny tweakments that can elevate them to the next level, reducing unnecessary dribbles, increasing offball movement, and mastering the high screen role are the three pillars of their potential success. The talent is clearly there, and the rhythm between Clark and Boston is now a proven commodity. If they can refine these small details, they won't just be a highlight reel team. They will be a championship contender that strikes fear into the hearts of veteran squads across the league. Ultimately, tonight proved that the Indiana Fever are no longer a project. They are a problem for the rest of the WNBA. The unbelievable rhythm between their two young stars has arrived ahead of schedule, and it's a terrifying sight for anyone standing in their way. While the road to the Commissioners Cup might be blocked, the path to greatness is wide open. They have the stars. They have the energy.
And now they have the chemistry to back it all up. The league has been warned.
The fever are rising. And they are doing it with a style and rhythm that is absolutely undeniable.
