Our bones are the nutrient warehouses for our bodies. All the chemical reactions in our bodies take micronutrients like calcium and potassium and sodium, and our bones are critical storehouses for some of these micronutrients. Without adequately feeding ourselves, without adequate intake of protein, when our body uses our bones as energy, we're not able to restore them. High protein diets improves calcium absorption and support bone formation. For women, we need about 30 to 40 grams of protein per meal, which equals out to about 1.6 grams per kilogram or 0.8 to 1 gram per ideal pound.
