Swift Shadowing Practice!

[00:00:00]Hey there, thanks for clicking on this video. I assume you want to improve your English speaking and or work on your American English pronunciation. So this shadowing practice is going to be a swift one. I am going to have you repeat after me and then you're going to shadow this story with me. So you're going to say it at the same time as me matching my intonation, rhythm, pronunciation of the words and the overall flow of the language. Usually in my shadowing videos, I stop and give you some tips or point out the specific pronunciation of some words, but for this one, we're just going to dive right in. I'm not going to make any comments or stop. I came up with a story that used a lot of common expressions we use in English, but also some really descriptive language so that you guys can expand your vocabulary through this practice. If there's a word you don't know, try before looking it up in your native language to use context clues. So that is using the story as a whole to try and guess what the word means. And this is really good for building fluency as well. You can repeat this practice as many times as it feels comfortable. [00:01:48]Last weekend, I decided to go on a long walk even though the weather looked a little questionable.

[00:02:04]>> The sky was gray, and it felt like it might rain at any moment. But I told myself I needed some fresh air.

[00:02:24]So, I grabbed my headphones, put on some music, and headed out anyway.

[00:02:39]At first, everything was great. And I remember thinking how glad I was I got out of the house.

[00:02:55]Okay, we're going to shadow that whole section together. Say it with me.

[00:03:01]Last weekend, I decided to go on a long walk, even though the weather looked a little questionable.

[00:03:09]The sky was gray, and it felt like it might rain at any moment.

[00:03:14]But I told myself I needed some fresh air.

[00:03:18]So, I grabbed my headphones, put on some music, and headed out anyway.

[00:03:25]At first, everything was great. And I remember thinking how glad I was I got out of the house.

[00:03:32]All right, listen and repeat.

[00:03:34]About 20 minutes in, I realized I wasn't sure where I was.

[00:03:45]I had taken a different route than usual, just to explore a bit, but now nothing looked familiar.

[00:04:02]The streets were empty, my phone battery was low, and of course, that's when it started raining.

[00:04:19]Not just a little rain either. It was pouring.

[00:04:29]Within seconds, I was completely drenched.

[00:04:39]Okay, let's shadow that section. Say it with me.

[00:04:44]About 20 minutes in, I realized I wasn't sure where I was.

[00:04:50]I had taken a different route than usual, just to explore a bit, but now nothing looked familiar.

[00:04:58]The streets were empty, my phone battery was low, and of course, that's when it started raining.

[00:05:09]It was pouring.

[00:05:11]Within seconds, I was completely drenched. [00:07:59]Finally, after what felt like forever, I saw a street I recognized.

[00:08:05]I was so relieved.

[00:08:07]I walked faster, almost running. And when I got home, I just stood there for a second, dripping water all over the floor, thinking next time, I'll bring an umbrella if I think it's going to rain.

[00:08:24]But honestly, looking back, it wasn't that bad.

[00:08:33]It was uncomfortable, sure, but also kind of funny.

[00:08:43]And now, at least I know a new part of the city, even if I found it completely by accident.
