Fosfomycin is an oral antibiotic that treats uncomplicated urinary tract infections with a single dose, working by blocking bacterial cell wall formation through a mechanism different from other antibiotics, making it harder for bacteria to develop resistance; it is particularly effective against E. coli, the most common UTI-causing bacteria, and has minimal impact on gut bacteria, unlike typical 5-day antibiotic courses.

There is a UTI antibiotic that works in a single dose. Most doctors in India never prescribe it. 💊Added:
There is one UTI medication in India that works as a single dose. Most doctors do not prescribe it and most patients haven't heard about it. While you are taking a 5-days course of antibiotics for UTI with side effects, this medication does the same job in one sachet. It's called fosfomycin. It is an oral antibiotic that has been available for decades, but it has been massively underused in India. It works by blocking the first step of bacterial cell wall formation, a mechanism that is different from other antibiotics. That is why bacteria find it harder to develop resistance against. One sachet, dissolve in water and take it. That's the entire treatment for most of the uncomplicated UTIs. Fosfomycin is most effective for uncomplicated bladder infections, the most common type of UTI. It is also used in the treatment of difficult UTIs in which levofloxacin or nitrofurantoin have been already failed. And because it reaches very high concentration in the urinary tract, it's a particularly powerful agent against E. coli, the most common cause of a UTI. And unlike most antibiotic, it has minimal effect on the gut bacteria. No digestive disruption, no probiotics needed. If you are a women who gets recurrent UTI, ask your doctor specifically about fosfomycin. Ask for it by its name. If your UTI does not respond to nitrofurantoin or other antibiotics, this may be the next right option after a culture test. You should not have to suffer from a 5-days antibiotic course for your UTI. This option exists. Comment UTI and I will DM you a complete guide, the right test, the right medication and how to stop UTIs from coming back. Share this with every women you know who keeps getting recurrent UTIs. I am Dr. Navneet Arora.
