When fishing for large bass (10+ pounds), using giant jigs is highly effective because big bass tend to be more aggressive and willing to strike larger lures, while smaller bass often bite but don't hook properly; successful fishing requires adapting to conditions like water clarity, cover availability, and weather patterns, with the best opportunities often occurring before storms when bass become more active and aggressive.

Fishing For 10lb BASS With GIANT JIGS!
Added:We're hunting down some 10 pound bass today with some giant jigs. We're gonna spend all day today fishing a couple of lakes that I know hold doubledigit largemouth. Some that I've seen double digit largemouth on bed at. Some that I've caught even close to double digits at with just straight monster jigs.
Whoa. We got No, this is a giant. This is giant. This is giant. This is giant.
We're not going for a bunch of fish today. We're just looking for that one big bite.
Here we go. We are finding our monster today, guys. We are finding a giant. I can smell it. Oh, that's a good sniff.
That's a better sniff.
That's a even better sniff. That's the best sniff at work. I can smell it in the air. It today is actually I mean minty conditions. And this big jig is going to find a monster down there. At any spot on this lake, there could there legitimately could be a double- digit bass. We've seen them in here. I've seen them on bed. We have yet to catch one, but we have caught multiple monsters out of here.
And these conditions feel amazing.
I can feel the big bass energy, the fog on the surface. It's going to be a good day.
Let's try this side.
Damn. I was hoping we were going to be able to find a big one casting deep off this dam, but I think these fish are going to be on cover shallower. Although it's overcast, we've been getting a lot of rain recently. And when this water gets a little murky, the fish like to go to drop offs or shallower areas or sticks, shallow cover. And that's what we're going to do cuz the other side of this lake is completely filled with cover. I mean, look at it. Pretty much we got to go into the trenches if we want to catch a big one right now.
That's the game plan.
This is exactly what I'm looking for in here. A bunch of cover. Got some grass over there. Sticks out in the middle.
There's a little sand point kind of submerged. I don't know if you can see it right out there.
I also like the look of this water. This is a big bass water. That's what I call it.
Oh, he's going with it. We're getting this one. Got him. Good fish. Good fish.
There he is, baby. Number one. Oh, he's nice. Oh, he's coming out. Oh my god.
He's Dude, he's strong. It's like a three three pounder, baby. Come here, bud. Come here, bud. Oh yeah. I'm not trusting my line anymore. We're going to scoop this guy up with our mittens.
Yeah, that's a good one. That is a good fish right there. Look at that. That's a good one. Yeah, he's about 3 lbs all day. That's a good start right there.
It's not the double digit, but a very, very good start. It's a really healthy fish. These fish in this lake, super chunky. We get one that's about 8 in longer and we're in good shape. They're seeming to be quite aggressive today, too. I was just reeling that thing back and then he's like, like I said, we moved off the dam cuz I wanted to find some shallower cover. It's a real rocky little peninsula here and he was about 10 ft off assume I'm assuming kind of right where it starts to drop off and he picked it up and he sprinted. Click the button. Sometimes you guys wonder why do I click the button? I click the button to give them a little time to eat it and then I give them the beans and rice.
Dude, beautiful fish. They're really healthy. That's a great sign. Always good to see healthy fish to start the day. Yeah. Sorry, I didn't realize how damn shallow it was here.
No. Watch out, guys. He's coming for you. Let's do that a little better. I I didn't realize it. I didn't realize it was that shallow, bud. Sorry.
Oh, yeah. That's a good start right there. That's See, getting on a healthy fish to start the day. We know the lake's in good condition now. We know the fish are eating well. Big ones are on the menu. Big ones are on the menu, baby. Had to break the ice. Those are also the fish we're going to get with big jigs today. The small ones, they're going to, you know, they're going to bite it and probably leave it. We're going to miss hook sets on small ones.
But, I mean, that's a prime example of, you know, the average fish we're looking for. That's why big jigs are so effective.
There he is. Oh my god, it's that. Oh, he's still got it. Yeah. Oh, he's like he's playing with it all weird though.
I'm just going to set the hook. Got him.
I think he's smaller.
Same spot though. Yeah, he is. Oh, wait a minute. He ain't even half bad. I was thinking a half pounder. This is like a This is a two-lb fish right here. What am I doing right now? I forgot. Oh my god. I forgot how to fish, gang. I'm sorry. I don't know why I didn't just flip him up here.
Wow. All right. No, that's a good fish right there. Not as big as our first one, but that is a very good fish. He was just toying with it all weird.
That's why I thought he was small. I mean, he's got a real That's why. Look at that. He's got the What's going on here, dude? This guy's got some amazing genetics, dude. He's either been in the gym working out or he's got some cracked out genetics because that is the mouth of like a half pound to one pound bass and this guy's gills are red. Oh my god, dude. I can't get over it. You deserve a little smooch. Give him one, guys.
Appreciate it. We're going to give you a way better release than the last one. It might be a little toss, but better than swimming in rocks for 15 seconds.
Look at him go off.
We're off to a very hot start here. I like this consistent good start.
Oh, I just realized under that tree right there, that's where we saw the 10 lb bass on bed. It It looked like about a 9 lb bass on bed. And usually when I'm bed fishing that time of year, the fish are about 2 and 12 lbs heavier on average when you pull them out of the water, especially if they're fat. A 9 pounder looking like a 9 pounder all day. A double- digit bass. It was massive. That's why we're out here today. That fish is still haunting me.
Let's see if he's still there. You never know.
Right here. This is ex I was Man, this is hilarious. I can remember it right there in my mind. I can remember the perfect image. I was standing on this tree like this. There weren't all these leaves here. And I was just looking at a bed and two fish 23 inches long and a stomach full of eggs sitting, you know, less than seven feet in front of me.
Oh, I just got smoked. Oh, no way.
Oh, come on. Come back for it. Must must have been a little guy just taking his taking his attack mode on it.
That's a fish. Oh. Oh no, I'm falling.
That must be a big one or I'm going crazy. Let's get another hook set just in case. Oh. Oh, it's a decent one.
There we go. Holy crap. Saved that in multiple ways.
Oh yeah, there he is. There he is. I know you got more in you, buddy. Come here. He ain't huge. He may be about 2 lbs. Look at that. Let's get him in here. Come here, partner. Hey there. Oh my good god. That's what I like to see, too. Fattened up and really warm, too.
That's good, man. I knew the fishing conditions were ripe. This guy, I think I casted All right, we're going to have to toss you a little bit. 3 2 1 Good golly. He I knew he had a little left in the tank. Oh my gosh.
Let's get it all the way out there.
I really don't want to go through this right now. We walked out into the perfect spot. I kind of plan on just fishing this drop off in that dam over there. Usually when we come here, you guys know if you know this lake, we come here and we get scrappy. We start fighting the bushes. But today, I just want to want to go to the good spots and try and catch giants. That's our one goal.
I don't want to fight any trees today.
Yep, that's something. Yeah, that's a fish.
Got him. Another one right out there.
Oh, he feels weird. It's a good one. I think better. No, he was about the same size. I'm telling you guys, this drop off right here is money.
And they are feeling this big jig.
He's a little smaller actually. Nice fish though. Nice fish. Let's see if he's healthy.
He looked healthy. See you buddy.
That's a fish right there. Another one.
Oh, he's running with it. Nice. Nice.
Nice fish, I think. Or he's hung up in some logs. Whoa. I think we got a big one. That boils. Whoa. We get No, this is a giant. This is giant. This is giant. This is giant. This is a giant.
I'm not playing, guys.
Where is he?
There he is. He's right up near the bank. This is a big one. How big, though? Oh, he's like 5 lbs. Okay. All right. He's No.
Okay. Thank god we got to look at him. I thought that was the one right there.
Okay. Holy moly, guys. We are in the spot right now.
I'm telling you guys, this big jig is making some making some fish really hungry right now. He was way up shallow there, too. You guys can't see, but there's a sandy drop off and it's almost like an island up there and that's where these fish are. Dude, that was like a 5 pounder, man.
Oh, it's starting to settle in. There's another fish. All right, I'm giving this guy the beans.
Got him. Oh, that's another good one.
Another real good one. Oh, he's real good, guys. He's real good. What is going on?
Where is he? Don't get caught up in that log. This might be bigger fish, dude. Do I have a log on?
Stop recording. Stop. Stop recording.
Wait, no. That was a fish, though.
What did I hook? Yeah, it's a tree. I set the hook so hard I think I broke the stick. No, guys. I had a fish on and I just lost 5 pounders. So, next cast.
Look, I had to be Stop carting.
We All right, we really got to catch fish now. I I thought we had a bigger one. I knew it felt weird after he was just going straight at me. I think I said something like, "Do I have a fish on?" Maybe I recovered.
God damn. Happens to the best of us, G.
I think I have a fish on.
I don't care. We're about to No, that's It's not a fish. We're We're covering here.
Wait, it is a fish.
No, it was a fish, guys. Oh my god. No.
No. No. No. What's going on? Stop. All right, we're done.
Yeah, let's get right along this drop off. Fish every bit of that. I think it goes something like this.
We got to recover, dude. We got to get a big one here.
There he is. He knocked slack into it.
Yeah, he's got it. Make sure on this one. Got him. Fish on. Oh, decent one.
That's like a three and a half. Look at the way he jumped. That was awesome. We got to get him away from all those sticks.
Oh, he's strong, dude. He's taking me all the way over here. Oh, we're going to go get him. We're going to get him.
Come here, buddy. Get you away from all those sticks. Oh, this look is not a great spot. There's another one of those big random divots in the ground.
I don't know how straight up my line is, so we're just going to squeeze him.
Yeah, there he is. That's a good one.
Holy crap.
Let's get you unhooked there, partner.
Dude, yeah, keep munching, bud. Don't let that discourage you. That is such a be, dude. I told you this lake has h has the blueprint for monsters. It's just a matter of time before we get one that, you know, has got this and then, you know, a little bit more down there. And we got our DD and a new personal best.
Thanks, bud. Oh, I love fish like this, man. I love them.
Klunk. It's like a bigger rock. They're out there, man. Let's keep casting.
Let's keep casting. We're on them.
Got that warm breeze moving in. Oh my god, these conditions are minty.
This looks quite nice back here. It's looking like some big fish territory.
Kind of tucked away, hidden.
A lot of the biggest bass I've caught have been in the most like shallowest, tucked away spots. You'd think they'd be out in the open, like the big bold areas, but n dude, they're tucked away.
They want to hide.
All right, we're taking one more cast.
One more chance at a giant. I'm going to say it's going to be hard to leave this spot. I don't want to leave, but I also want to get to our next spot even more because I think there's a greater chance at us being able to land a really big bass. And the conditions today are good.
We're getting on fish. We just got to get on the right one.
I feel like, oh man, I do want to spend more time here, but we're going to keep moving. We fish here like 7 hours, so we got what we got. We're going to go on to the next.
This next spot, it's a lot bigger, meaning well, doesn't mean it could hold bigger fish, but it's got more opportunity for bigger fish. Plus, we got a new jig on here. This thing is actually it's actually a little larger and it's got a little more color to it.
So, I'm interested to see how it works.
We got 3 hours to catch a 10 pounder out of this lake. Let's do it.
There's a lot of grass in this water. It looks super matter of fact, almost too much. It looks super healthy. Good golly. Sun stays out. Maybe we'll be able to see some big ones swimming by.
That could help us out.
Looks like there's some good layowns off the other side of that point. So, I'm going to try and get over there.
All right, we've encountered our first major issue and we need to adjust.
There's too much grass in this lake to fish it right now. I didn't realize how much grass was in here. Are the big bass probably in the grass? The big bass are definitely in the grass. The thing is I can't fish a almost 1oz football head jig in 3T of grass. So, I think we're going to go. We're going to make a bold decision. But usually at the end of bold decisions are big fish or or no fish.
We're going to make a bold decision. And we're going back to the first spot. We were catching big fish there left and right. And we're going to see if we can just get one more. One more big one.
I knew it. I knew it was coming, guys.
That over there. See how it's The clouds are light over there? Clouds are light over there. See this trapezoidal figure?
There's a storm heading in our direction, which means one of two things. Actually, it means two things.
We're probably going to get stormed on.
The other thing it might mean is we're about to catch some big bass. This is actually more than likely our best chance at a giant bass this entire day.
We've been fishing I don't have a watch on and I'm really not good at math. So, I'm going to just say we've been fishing 400 hours. Just kidding. Probably been fishing about 8 n hours straight at this point. This is our best hour. This This next hour is going to be our best hour of fishing.
Well, our best potential at catching a big bass, I'll say that. It's always the bite before the storm.
Let's see what happens, though. I can't guarantee anything.
That thing is heading our way, though.
And it's probably, you know, 30 minutes.
Oh, I just got bit right there. I think it was a smaller fish, though. 30 minutes to an hour and a half before it gets here.
We're just going to chuck this big jig off the dam and get one more chance at our monster.
No.
A couple more seconds storm. Jeez whiz.
Let's just see what we're in for.
Oh no.
Yeah, that hurts the soul. That hurts. I thought we would have more time. We don't. We have no more time. Look. So, in about 7 minutes, according to the IMAPs weather app, we will be getting struck by lightning. I got one more. Ah, I was Guys, I thought we would have more time out here. I really did. We're giving another shot. Another shot. This is the shot. I'm going to make a couple more casts. I'm going to go until I hear our first thunder. And you know the thing you guys don't know is we've walked 10 15 No, that's a cap. We walked about 15 20 minutes into the woods all the way to the other side of this lake to try and catch a double- digit bass.
And now we're about to get smoked by a storm. We still have to walk 15 20 minutes back. Matter of fact, we're running. So, let's go for a big one.
Come on. Last shot. Last shot.
That's a cast right there.
That's a fish. Oh no, don't drop it.
Is he still there? I think he is. We're giving him the beans. He's far out there. Got him. There he is before the storm. Be the double. Oh, he's good.
He's so far out there, though, guys.
He's good. He's like four pounds.
Oh my god. Come on. Before the storm, dude. We have two minutes until a thunderstorm strikes down right up on us. And we're still catching him. Come on. Get in here. He's Oh, he's good.
Come on.
Oh, it ain't a giant. But it's Now, that's a big bass, man. Look at that. We still got a chance, guys. Look at that.
That's a good fish. That's why you go to the end right there. It ain't over till you get struck by lightning. Not till the fat lady scene. to get absolutely annihilated by a thunderstorm. No 4 pounder. I kind of want to throw it on the scale, but because I wanted to throw a fish on the scale today, but no. Let's keep casting, man. Absolutely smoked the jig, too. I love the jig eaters, man.
They're they're just I don't know, man.
Jig fish just they're thick and they're fat and they're aggressive. I love them.
They're big, too. That's I don't know.
It looks like a 4 pounder, but it's not 4 lbs. That's a good maybe 38 or so.
Appreciate it. Thanks for coming out near the end.
Sorry for dive bombing you into the mud right there, but I got to get another cast out there. We still got a chance.
Jadies and LS, you still got a chance.
Put in the same spot. There's a pile of sticks somewhere down there. I think I moved a little bit. We got to shift that way a little bit. But a drop off and a pile of sticks. My hands are all slimy, but I think that's where these fish are.
Yeah, you guys, I was checking the weather. In two minutes, it's gonna start raining. But it's raining now. So, that's how you know you're that's how you know you're kicked, man. When it says it's going to start raining in 2 minutes, well, it's raining now. Means we're going to probably die in 2 minutes.
Okay, that's our queue right there. This train is slowing down. I don't want to push our luck. There's a storm heading our way and it looks mean. The rain has calmed down, but that's our cue because between what we just had and a thunderstorm is a little gap of nothing.
And I think the gap's ending right now.
I absolutely love trying to catch a monster bass. We spend the entire day trying to catch a monster bass and it was fun. Today we did it with big jigs in like large hidden ponds. If you guys want to see us do it again with like go entire day swimbait fishing for a double digit in an urban pond. Go to some of the ponds that I know hold really big and few bass to try and catch biggin.
We'll go do it. I don't care. I'll grind all day for the big bass. It didn't happen today. We're still on the hunt for it though. Double digits are coming soon. This summer I can feel it. All right. I'll see you on the next one.
Keep grinding out there. Don't get caught in a thunderstorm. Matter of fact, go get caught in a thunderstorm.
It's pretty fun. Peace. The flippino out.
