Albert Einstein rejected the Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics because he believed it abandoned the scientific goal of explaining reality, instead offering a 'tranquilizing philosophy' that avoided deeper questions about what exists; he argued that a proper physical theory should remain descriptive even when no measurement is taking place, rather than depending on observation to define reality.

Why Einstein Rejected the Copenhagen InterpretationAdded:
This wasn't just a shift. It was a problem. He saw it as a step away from explanation and towards something much more limited. He compared it to the system of delusions of an exceedingly intelligent paranoic. And he described it as a tranquilizing philosophy, a soft pillow to the true believer. What he seems to mean by this is that the interpretation feels like it avoids deeper questions. Einstein's concern was not whether quantum mechanics worked. It clearly did. His concern was that it wasn't actually telling us what reality is. He wanted a theory that remained descriptive even when no measurement was taking place. A theory that didn't depend on observation to talk about what exists. But those kind of concerns largely didn't shape the direction physics took at the time.
This was in part because of an influential argument by Jean von Noman.
