Every living organism on Earth, from the smallest bug to the largest animal, possesses extraordinary biological complexity, unique behaviors, and cognitive abilities that make it remarkable in its own right; understanding these organisms and their ecosystems reveals how interconnected and fragile life is, fostering a deeper appreciation for biodiversity and the importance of conservation.

Life After Real ScienceAdded:
For the last 6 and 1/2 years, I hosted, directed, and created Real Science. It meant everything to me, but [music] I didn't own it.
And that chapter has come to an unexpected close. [music] So, I'm starting over. I'm launching a new channel, The Infinite Biosphere.
This is a channel about life on Earth, and not just the biggest, coolest animals, but the weirdest ones, the overlooked ones, the misunderstood ones.
It's all rooted in this belief that I have, that if you look closely enough, every single bug, fungus, plant, every snail, bird, or shrimp, every single weird little guy is extraordinary.
Not everyone is on board with that. So much of the world really believes that nature is a separate thing from us, a nuisance, something to be controlled or tamed. I've spent years trying to convince people otherwise. It's not always a winning battle. So, instead of arguing about it, I'm going to channel that energy here, into these videos, and show you that if you dig into the science, there are so many incredible stories around every animal's biology, behavior, and cognition. And within these stories, it becomes clear just how important every single organism is to our planet. [music] And I promise that by understanding these animals and the ecosystems that they live in, life is so much more interesting. Even the animals we think we understand still hold some of the biggest mysteries in science.
Some of these videos will happen right outside my front door. Every day, I find something incredible. A timber rattlesnake in the [music] yard, fairy shrimp dancing in the vernal pools, jumping spiders on my back porch. I have what you might call a compulsive need to find out everything about every animal I come across. And when the weather's bad or I'm hibernating for winter, my curiosity might take me somewhere else, metaphorically speaking, to the jungles of Borneo or to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. My goal is to always include expert voices and ask the questions that allow these videos to go so much deeper than the surface level stuff that pops up on Google. And one day, after One sec, let me do the math.
8.75 million videos, I will finally answer the question, why is every living thing amazing? But with all of this, there is a price.
This quote sums it up. One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds. I feel that every day. The more you learn, the more it hurts. The more you realize how much has been lost. But I also think if more people could see how strange and intricate and [music] fragile life is, maybe that's where the healing begins. Maybe that's how we end up with less animals tangled in fish nets, more action taken towards invasive species, fewer ecosystems quietly disappearing. I'm sure this channel will morph and change over time and hopefully grow as I grow. My life is changing a lot right now and the last few months have been almost unbearably hard and I don't know what the next few years hold.
But I know that I always have and I always will care about these animals and no matter what happens, I will never stop trying to get the world to understand how cool it all is. And I can't promise that this channel will be perfect. It might be scrappy. The footage might be shaky. Being on camera will always feel kind of weird [music] to me, but it will be real and it will be mine. If you followed my work before or if you're just curious about the living world, I hope you'll subscribe and come with me on this adventure.
Thanks for watching and be sure to check out the first full-length video on the channel, which is about the mysteriously powerful cognition of jumping spiders.
